This was a nope for me. 1st impression was asking the waitress what the lunch specials were and getting "they're on the board in the front". Seemed odd that a waitress couldn't tell you the specials. It doesn't get better. Ordered the 1/4 fried chicken, 205 min later they bring out this over-fried dry chicken. Wasnt a fan of the breading at all, i side was dry as the desert. The mashed potatoes seemed like last nights leftovers, slaw was overly runny. Had been looking forward to visiting, this was a "once is enough" place for me. I opted for the breakfast sampler because I was starving and couldn't decide on one thing. While being a sampler, the portions weren't that huge. I enjoyed everything but nothing was over the top special, which is fine. It was exactly what I expected for a breakfast from a small town diner. Brie was our awesome server at the Friendship Diner and her personality made her a great representative for the diner. We found the seating areas cozy, quaint, and clean. Brie served up our customary cup of morning coffee, explaining that it is not your typical bagged coffee but freshly ground daily. Tasted great and started the breakfast the right way. You'll immediately notice the breakfast menu has many combinations and options so you'll have a tough time making the final decision but you'll enjoy what is ordered. Although it was crowded, we could hold a normal conversation. Looked like a favorite diner for locals and visitors alike. Brie took our order and returned with a large pot of coffee and topped off the waters. A few minutes later, the meals were served and I had hotcakes as well as scrambled eggs and a turkey sausage patty. Others with our group ordered "healthy options" as well. Brie was very friendly and attentive to our needs and readily answered all of our questions. Great food but lackluster service from a poorly trained staff. We got there today about noon, in the rush, and we're immediately seated but the food took forever. The server was also rather inattentive. This is all understandable. The issue came with a really sketchy up charge situation. My wife ordered the chicken biscuit plate. The description lists no quantities but shows a price of $9.99 and that an additional biscuit sandwich can be added for $4.99. The item is pictured on a plate with two biscuit sandwiches. We were unpleasantly surprised to see the bill come for $14.99. When I asked I was told that the plate only comes with one and that we were charged for the larger order of two which we got. The issue here is the description is misleading but worse we were never asked if she wanted one or two. My wife is petite and doesn't eat much and would never have ordered the larger plate. The server took it upon herself to ring in the larger and more expensive one without asking. When we asked it was brushed off as though this should have been obvious and that people complained if it went the other way. There was also no leadership up front to handle this. There was mention of getting the owner but the server seemed terrified of that prospect saying he has had a bad day already. In the end I paid and went on about my day. Now I'll know to be far more thorough when ordering. read more

The Friendship Diner is a cool place to go to for breakfast. While there was nothing fancy about the interior, it had a great classic ambience. For whatever reason, it just screams Midwest to me. I mean this as a very good compliment. The food also was kind of a no-frills type offering, but it was good solid comfort food. A diner is that supposed to be fancy. I grew up in New Jersey, which is known as the diner capital of the world, and some of my best memories will always be associated with diners. In Jersey, diners are definitely in our DNA. A diner is where we would go on a Saturday or Sunday morning, we would head there after finishing a night at the night clubs at three o'clock in the morning. A diner is supposed to be a part of the community. The Friendship Diner is definitely a part of this community. The place was rather busy, yet the service did not seem harried and I never felt rushed. The omelets are definitely a good selection for breakfast, but looking at the smiles as everyone ate their food, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on this menu. read more

A couple friends and I ate breakfast here this past Friday. This is my second time here and I've found the same great service, helpful staff, and clean restaurant. The meals are large. I ordered the Very Berry Crepes and added scrambled eggs and turkey bacon. Of course, it was way too much food for me, but I wanted something more than just the sweet crepes. First of all, the crepes were tasty. However, they are not what I consider crepes which are usually very thin and delicate. These tasted like they were pancakes rolled up. That was okay and yummy, but not what I was hoping for. Scrambled eggs were perfect as was the turkey bacon. Regardless, I'd return again as the food is good, and a nice place to meet friends. Oh, I can't forget to mention, the coffee was great. I drink decaf and she brought a carafe for me. Also, one friend was ordering a la carte. The waitress told her that it would be cheaper to just customize the breakfast plate. Again, so helpful. read more

I got the country fried steak with white gravy, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and a biscuit. Nothing was seasoned. I didn't even finish my meal. The children got pancakes which tasted sour. I found this little gem traveling in Evansville Indiana for a business trip. A colleague of mine went here for breakfast and we're not disappointed. They are open for breakfast and lunch, and do not fight the dinner crowd. I love breakfast, and their menu had so many items to pick from. From waffles, omelettes, pancakes, skillets, and the list goes on and on. It was fairly busy which is a good sign of a good place to eat. I've been here a few times now. The first time wasn't too great. Here's why: the waitress was unfriendly, the French toast didn't come like it was supposed to and was overly eggy. There's a few waitresses and a hostess who are unfriendly and that's unfortunate. But there is one waitress I've had twice and she rocks! I can't remember her name though.
