Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and fried okra
    Kynda C.

I've lived nearby for the majority of my life and had never tried the Cross-Eyed Cricket. This establishment has been a part of this community for as long as I could ever recall. It is definitely a place where one would pass by and say, "I should stop there some day." Today was my day. The restaurant is a small, diner-style restaurant. I was immediately impressed with the live edge tables throughout. Even on their outdoor patio, I noticed live edge on their stool-height tables. There were 11 full size tables/booths and 4 small tables. It was quaint. I ordered their meatloaf which came with three sides. I selected mashed potatoes and a double portion of fried okra for $13 and a soft drink for $3.25. A dinner roll with regular and strawberry butter accompanied the plate. The meatloaf was smothered with brown gravy, so if a ketchup topping is your thing with meatloaf, you might want to select a different entree. The food was okay. Not fantastic but not terrible - this is what earned the 4 stars. My feeling was that most everything was purchased from a food supplier, heated and served. It was good diner food but probably not a place that I would choose to impress a date. I noticed a few families dining in and a few singles (like me). Overall, I am glad that I finally tried it but can't say that this would be a place that I would frequent. It would be nice to know how long they have been operating.

Amazing burger omg best burger and fries I have had in long time.

Best burger and fries I've had in a long time. The food was out fast. So yummy and delicious but not to mention not to pricey

    Chicken fried chicken

I'm not giving up on this place yet because the green beans and mashed potatoes were delicious. However, the batter on the chicken fried chicken was nothing but raw, slimy, thick flour. It was so slimy that it wasn't sticking to the chicken at all. As you can see in the picture below, that is the little bit of chicken that's in the middle and the rest is the batter. It was inedible. The batter is thicker than the chicken. I still can't believe that this is what they're serving people. Crazy. I know they have great food, that's why I'm so shocked about this chicken.

    Rhubarb pie for breakfast!!!

Suggest you arrive early for breakfast or you will be line out the door at the converted old house turned eatery. They have delicious PIE options and if I can get pie for breakfast the day is going to start off perfect. Rhubarb pie is seasonal and on this visit in August, this delicious treat with a golden buttery crust and not overly sweet filing of rhubarb (no strawberry in it ) to my breakfast table. The savory item for me was a big serving side item of German Potatoes with the right amount of onion and crisp and softness. Drinks are a tad pricey at $3.00, otherwise food cost is good, food is good and good service. Overall good for being slam packed, definitely a must stop when passing by.

I found this little gem while Visiting Evansville. The service was good and the bread pudding French toast was delicious! *chefs kiss* Prices were good too.

The service was good, but a little slow. Food was tasty and just the right amount. A nice, clean little diner.

The food has hit or miss but the vibes are immaculate. I would say their waffles lack flavor or sweetness to them.

The menu tonight was predetermined with great options. Service was a little slow tonight, but that is to be expected when the entire restaurant is at capacity with reservations. My husband and I loved the appetizers. It was a sample of shrimp cocktail, spinach dip with pita bread, and sriracha honey bacon brussel sprouts. I ordered the garden salad for my next course while my husband chose the broccoli mushroom chowder. We each enjoyed our choice. For the main course I had the marinated grilled chicken with creamy spinach and artichoke, and my husband had the 16 ounce bone in ribeye. Both main dishes came with a twice baked potato and roasted vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, bell pepper). My chicken was slightly overcooked, but it wasn't too noticeable with the creamy topping. My husband's steak was cooked to perfection. We both enjoyed the sides. We got dessert to go as we were so full by that point. I chose the carrot cake and he got the cheesecake. Our son was very happy we decided to bring the desserts home so he could also try them. Both were delicious, but the carrot cake was the standout. We look forward to returning to have their regular menu.
