    Salmon Patties
    Kyle E.

4.3 out of 5 Stars The service was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere felt so warm and welcoming. Prices are extremely affordable, which is always a huge plus! We started with the cornbread--absolutely delicious! It was buttery, maybe a bit on the heavy side, but worth the treat. For our main course, we tried the salmon patties with hash browns. The salmon had a great flavor, though it was just a tad on the dry side. We also got the Roots Bowl, which came with a generous portion of food, all smothered in tasty gravy. It's a hearty dish, perfect for sharing. One must-try here is their fresh salad, grown and prepared in-house--so refreshing and a nice balance to some of the heavier items on the menu. Overall, a wonderful experience, and we'll definitely be back!

This place was exceptional! We were met with a small skillet of heavenly cornbread. Then, I ordered smoked meatloaf with loaded smashed potatoes and hash browns. My wife had buffalo chicken Mac-n-cheese, both were wonderful. The praline pumpkin pie was also heavenly. We are only in town for two days and considering another visit tomorrow. Make sure to ask for Victoria as your waitress, she was the best.

    Jalapeño cornbread

Ambiance-A+; Service-A+; Food-A+. We THOROUGHLY enjoyed our dinner this evening. After we were seated, we were quickly brought our drinks and some cast iron skillet jalapeño corn bread topped with whipped butter. My husband had an Old Fashioned from the bar and he was pleasantly surprised at how generous they were with the Buffalo Trace bourbon. We both had the fried chicken. Both of us had the smashed potatoes & country gravy. Our other sides were the Brussel sprouts & Southern Green beans. We were very impressed with every aspect of our experience. We will be back. Thank you.

A pleasant surprise! It's obvious that this is a scratch kitchen with a delicious, and reasonably priced menu. Those two attributes are hard to find together. The fried chicken was as good as I've had anywhere, being both flavorful and moist all the way through. The Mississippi Catfish had a great flavor as well. We drove approximately 50 miles to dine here and will do so again. In short, the food is very strong as is the service. Just get here

Hometown Roots is a local joint that has the best food. They always have seasonal menu. The special dishes this time were PEACHES! After the waitress brought out a complimentary skillet of cornbread, I started with a yummy drink that looked beautiful and tasted delicious. The nacho bucket is served in a big tin can and it is just dumped out on a tray for sharing. I wasn't starving, so I ordered the salad with pork belly burnt ends. WOW! Great food, exceptional service, fair prices Go early- they will be packed!!!

It was date night for my lady and I. I had heard about how Hometown Roots was the hands down best place to eat in Henderson. Yelp had a lot of amazing reviews and when I had walked by Hometown Roots before, there was a lot of people waiting. Hometown Roots is downtown Henderson in what looks like an old hotel. The wait was legit though as it was about an hour wait. But it was well worth the wait. When we got to the table, we were given a skillet of cornbread and butter. The cornbread had a hint of sweetness and a lot of soft texture. It was a fantastic way to start off the meal. My date and I ordered the pimento cheese fritters. This was an impressive appetizer as fried pimento cheese with some kind of marmalade on top. The pimento cheese was not spicy and full of cheesy goodness. My girlfriend is a Yankee Hoosier so she got subjected to a lot of good Southern food. I had already got her to try grits but tonight she ordered shrimp and grits. I do not like shrimp but I tasted her shrimp and grits and loved the gravy that was mixed in. My entree was the number one best seller of smoked meatloaf according to the owner. My sides were hashbrown casserole and jalepeno cream corn. The meatloaf came topped with a sweet BBQ sauce and had a mixture of gouda cheese, onions, and bell peppers. This was a very impressive meatloaf. The hashbrown casserole was a mix of cheese and some kind of chili powder on it. The cream corn is self-explanatory with pieces of jalepeno mixed in. The hashbrown casserole was all right but I would order the cream corn again. Our waiter took forever getting our drinks and he admitted he forgot about us. But he made it up to us by giving us dessert on the house. My date picked the fried ice cream which was all right. I ended up with the peanut butter chess pie which was a take home dessert out of the necessity of needing milk. Sweet tea was refreshingly sweet and the service was very friendly as it seemed like everyone tried to talk to us. I love BBQ so I would say Homer's BBQ is the number 1 place to eat in Henderson. But Homer's is owned by the same people. So Hometown Roots is easily 1b for places to eat at in Henderson.

    fried chicken

Cant make reservations its first come first serve, packed on a friday night. Service was great, brought out cornbread right away after our 30 minute wait. Nice to have that when your super hungry. Got the fried chicken, great crunch and moist. Loved the hot honey that came with it. Got two huge pieces and a drumstick. Hasbrown and Sweet Potato casserole were excellent. Also got the meatloaf which was good, loved the bbq sauce. The tres leches carrot cake was amazing. So light and fluffy but packed with flavor. Ambience was excellent. Great place to have a great meal.

My friend…read morewho's from here advised that Eastgate Family Restaurant has the best breakfast in the city. Based on what he said I had to go. As Eastgate Family Restaurant sits in a parking plaza there is ample parking. Upon walking it you are met with a sign to seat yourself. The restaurant is huge but has the feel of a small down home diner. The decor is very simple and dominated by gray tones. Once seated we were greeted by Lisa who was all smiles and midwest charm. The menu has an abundance of options but the breakfast section was calling my name. LoL! As I watched the servers bring out some other dishes I had to think long and hard about what I wanted. Being that my tastebuds we're all over the place I decided to go A-La-Carte, don't judge me. Food: Grits - The grits were plain. There was nothing special about them overall but they satisfied my desire for some grits. The serving size was very generous and after adding 6 packs of butter I was happier. LoL! Bacon (well done) - The bacon was the bomb. It was thick and well done just how I like it. Even with being well done it still had the robust flavor profile of smoked pork. Truth be told, I would come back for the bacon alone. Home Fries (well done and add onions) - The home fries were thinly sliced which made the crispyness even better. Though they were thin they still had the softness in the middle. They hit the spot. Overall, Eastgate Family Restaurant was a good meal with great service at a great price. It's worth a visit if you're in the area and looking for home cooked flavor without having to cook it.

My husband loved the eggs. The biscuit tasted like it was made from scratch. We ordered the pecan pie because it was the special. It was so good! The coffee was okay and hot in its yeti mug. I thought they could use someone to bus tables, cause when we walked in there were quite a few dirty tables and flies on the left over food. That almost turned me around, but I'm glad we stayed! If I was a local, I'd be a regular!

The menu tonight was predetermined with great options. Service was a little slow tonight, but that is to be expected when the entire restaurant is at capacity with reservations. My husband and I loved the appetizers. It was a sample of shrimp cocktail, spinach dip with pita bread, and sriracha honey bacon brussel sprouts. I ordered the garden salad for my next course while my husband chose the broccoli mushroom chowder. We each enjoyed our choice. For the main course I had the marinated grilled chicken with creamy spinach and artichoke, and my husband had the 16 ounce bone in ribeye. Both main dishes came with a twice baked potato and roasted vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, green beans, bell pepper). My chicken was slightly overcooked, but it wasn't too noticeable with the creamy topping. My husband's steak was cooked to perfection. We both enjoyed the sides. We got dessert to go as we were so full by that point. I chose the carrot cake and he got the cheesecake. Our son was very happy we decided to bring the desserts home so he could also try them. Both were delicious, but the carrot cake was the standout. We look forward to returning to have their regular menu.
