Friends Auto is so popular that you have to make an appointment if you want to get work done here. I called to make an appointment, but no one picked up, so I left a voicemail. Not too long after, Rose called me back and we were able to set an appointment two weeks out because their schedule is pretty packed. On the day of my service, I brought my car here for an oil change. The waiting area is not huge, but it's clean and has all the essentials. Rose was super nice and I was out of there before too long. James not only changed my oil, but he saw that my battery was really dirty, so he just cleaned it for me! With such great service, I will definitely be back when I have other car troubles. read more

I'm relatively new to the area, so when my car started making a disturbing "whomp whomp WHOMP WHOMP" sound, I had no idea where to find a trustworthy mechanic. Fortunately my fellow Yelpers were right on with their reviews of Friends Auto! The mystery noise actually disappeared the day before I had scheduled to take my car in, but I wanted to get it checked out just to make sure it wasn't in imminent danger of losing a wheel or bursting into flames. James was super nice and friendly, as was the receptionist I spoke to each time I called. Here's what really made me like this place: After checking my car out and determining that everything was in good working order, he didn't charge me a penny! I don't think I've ever taken my car somewhere to be diagnosed and not been charged at least a small labor fee. The fact that he didn't try to sell me on something I didn't need or capitalize on the situation in any way seems to me like a good indicator of trustworthiness. HONEST auto shop! My car runs like new again, thank u Friends Auto! I've taken my car there 3 times now, and they only recommend service that actually NEEDS to be done (unlike the BMW dealership that magically finds 10,000 things my car "urgently needs" every oil change and tries to guilt trip me by saying "I thought your family's safety is important to you but I guess not" when I reject their sales pitch). They've even talked me out of getting some things done that I thought needed to be done (according to the BMW dealership). I can totally trust Friends Auto to take care of my car and not push thousands of dollars of unnecessary service (again, BMW dealership). My only complaint is that they're too popular so I can't get in right away but once in, the service is quick and they keep me updated throughout the process. read more

We have been using James for several years now. We initially went to him to get a second opinion after receiving another $1500 laundry list of repairs from our local dealership after going in for a standard oil change. I was looking for a mechanic on Pleasant Hill while I was considering buying a used car from a dealership down the street. I had less than 48 hours to get it checked out, and saw Friends had great reviews. I called James in the morning. He mentioned that his week was slammed with appointments, but since it was time sensitive to go ahead and come by and he would squeeze me in when possible. I came by at about 2PM, and although they had a fairly packed garage, James got to the car quickly. While waiting, they had fast wifi in a comfortable air-conditioned waiting room. After James checked out the car, he accompanied me to the parking lot to go over everything in full detail. Afterwards, when I went to pay, James said not to worry about it because the car was in such good shape. I insisted but he said truly not to worry about it. I was blown away by the gesture and the fantastic customer service. Although I live 45 minutes away, I will absolutely be calling James first for any auto issue moving forward. When I say Friends Auto is the most amazing auto repair shop in the world I mean it. My husband and I were traveling to the lake with a Truck load of things as well as pulling a trailer. Our car began to shimmy. It was after hours, my husband reached out to James. James knew exactly what the problems was and directed us to Napa auto parts which was closing in 25 minutes; James personally met us there! We had a coil issue on cylinder #7 ( james brought his detection device) The problem was fixed in ten minutes. Parts had already been ordered and were waiting for us when we got there. I have gone to Friends Auto for over 5 years now. James is by far the most honest mechanic you will "EVER" meet. He and Rose (his wife) are an amazing team. I never knew what it was like to be able to trust what the mechanic said until I went to James. Thanks James for ALWAYS being truthful and not trying to take advantage of people...especially women. Case in point: I bought an SUV May of 2020 from Hennessey/Land Rover on Piedmont. It's a 2018 Jaguar F-Pace model and only had 26k miles on it. I live onsite where I work and have only put 7k miles on it as of today; I'm at 33k miles now (14 months after purchase) I took my car to Hennessey/Land Rover on Piedmont Road about 4 months ago for a screeching sound when I press the brakes. When they finished with my car, the service tech told me I needed at least two new tires @ $400 each. Now, this car only have 33k miles on it; the Premium manufacturer tires according to the warranty says they are good for 50 - 60k miles. The manufacturer also states that these tires should be replaced every 6 years not every 3 years. That didn't set well with me that this service tech was trying to increase his up sell quota at my expense. I will be going back to James and Rose, even though I have moved across town. We drove to Atlanta from Savannah with 2 cars during the mandatory evacuation due to hurricane Irma. My daughter's 1999 Jeep would not start after she parked it. We determined it was the starter and began trying to find a place that 1)had a starter and 2)would take it. We found Friends and I called. James was so helpful in explaining the process. We arranged a tow and he said it would be done by 3 the same day! He called at 3 and said it was ready. They stayed open to give us time to get there and the cost was less than his estimate. James is by far the best mechanic that I've ever known, there's not even a close second. After another shop told me that I needed several hundred dollars in repairs on my 1994 300zx, but then couldn't do the work until the next week, I took the car to James and told him specifically what needed to be done. He didn't do the work I asked him to do because it wasn't necessary. He spent time checking the car over, repaired a small, very cheap issue, and sent me on my way, saving me hundreds of dollars. My son had a similar experience with his car. On another occasion I took my Tacoma to James because the check engine light was on. He spent at least a couple of hours resetting the light and driving the truck, only to discover that nothing was wrong. But James charged me nothing! even after I insisted that he allow me to pay something for his trouble. I have 7 cars in my immediate family, and Friend's Auto services all of them. I won't even consider taking them anywhere else. Rose is also great. She's friendly, professional, and extremely well organized. I highly recommend Friend's Auto. read more

Tried out this place based on Yelp reviews. Needed new brake pads/rotors and a right bearing replaced. The mechanic was young and friendly and price seemed average. They were upfront w/ what parts I needed and how much it would cost. Less than a week after repairs I started to hear a clanking in my front driver side wheel area. I took it back to the shop explaining that this noise did not exist before this brake job and asked them to check it out. I was told it was a strut mount and I would need new struts implying it was unrelated to the previous work done. I decided not to have the work done right away. A week later my car went to grinding to a stop. As I watched it drag up the tow truck, sure enough my caliper had been flopping around and now was digging grooves into my wheel as it was rolling up the truck. Ironically both the tow truck driver and the other shop I took it to asked if I had recently had a brake job done. They simply did not tighten down the bolts on my caliper after the pad / rotor installation which led to an extra $350 spent between a rental car and having someone rethread the stripped bolt holes. Needless to say my struts are fine and the problem was an incomplete brake job. I will not be returning my car here. read more

I found this place not too long ago thru drive-by, and I have been coming here ever since. Got my oil change done, lowered my springs and fix anything out of ordinary. I brought my Mustang in with loose brakes. I researched my problem(because of pevious bad expirience at the Ford Stealerships) thinking it was a TSB problem but James showed my the Brake component what working and that it was my rotors that need cutting and a tighten of the E- Brake. I was referred to James through a co-worker and it was the best referral I may have ever received. James has always been able to get my car in and make any repairs around my work schedule (work 1 ml away from shop) and has always given me the "what needs to be done now" and :what I should look at getting done later" . His prices are reasonable and always always always 65% less than the dealer. He knows my car very well and can listen to it or drive it and tell me what I went in for before I tell him. While others would probably take advantage of my limited knowledge of cars, he does not and tells me when I can wait on something or if there is sense of urgency. read more

Got my husband's car serviced here a couple of weeks ago. We are fairly new to the area, and didn't know where to go, since it's hard to find a good, honest, reliable mechanic. However, but we really lucked out and found someone on the first try. We needed the repair made earlier than the appointment that was offered to us, but they were nice enough to somehow squeeze us in on the same day and get it done quicker than we thought.
