We took our granddaughter to Friendly's for lunch as part of a day out with her. Unfortunately, it was not a good decision: it was not busy when we arrived and the hostess was nice enough. She seated us and I then took my granddaughter to the restroom which was utterly disgusting. It's stunk so bad - there was stale-smelling urine on the back of the toilet seat, and in the stall we were in there was mold in the toilet. Couldn't hold my breath long enough. We ordered an appetizer of the loaded waffle fries which were just OK. When the runner brought out our meal she was very pleasant and made conversation with our granddaughter. I'm sorry I didn't get her name - I should have tipped her! Our granddaughter ordered the Mandarin oranges instead of fries since we shared the loaded fries, but they gave her fries instead of the oranges anyway; the chocolate milk was horrible, or "very disgusting" as my four-year-old granddaughter put it and after I took a sip I agreed; her cheeseburger sliders were overcooked and the bread was stale. My husband could not finish his cheeseburger, and the salad I had, had ingredients that were over-ripe and just bad. I just couldn't stomach it. We were starving but left most food sit, uneaten. I grew up with my grandmother taking me to Friendly's on my visits to her house and this particular establishment was a faaaar cry from anything I recall. This restaurant is in dire need of a staff who cares about what and who they represent in the foodservice industry. So in effect, that's on management. There are many people who care about their jobs and want to do an outstanding job at whatever they do. This restaurant does not seem to promote that attitude. So disappointing. In conclusion, we will not go back to this restaurant. Some friendly advice: if you ever go into an establishment's restroom and it's very obvious that it's not maintained regularly, and no amount of air freshener can cover the stench, walk away and eat elsewhere, which is what we should have done. read more

So we've visited this location a few times before and the food is good along with the service. It usually had a more lazy vibe among the employees, but this time was much different. It seemed they probably have a new manager(s) that made things more consistent with the brand. Everyone was well put together, service was smooth. Friendly's food tends to be on par with a diner. Nothing terribly impressive here. Friendly's on Jonestown Road closed, but I stopped in at the High Pointe Blvd location recently just for ice cream. There is a bar to sit at when you first come in the door, so we pulled up two seats and placed our order. Apparently the bar is where the staff prefers to sit and talk with each other, and we were definitely given the vibe that we were interrupting their space. We enjoyed our ice cream while being treated to a spirited discussion of the drinking habits of the staff, how much they didn't want to be working, and how annoying the customers were. Awesome for a customer to hear. Don't get me wrong, being a server SUCKS sometimes. I've done it. But when customers are sitting close by, it is best to not sit on your butt bitching to your coworkers about other customers. It seems like the prices for ice cream have gone up. Best service we have had since we moved here by far. I stupidly didn't get his name, but he made the trip so pleasant and enjoyable. My wife had never been here, but she loved it. The food, as you all should know is diner-esqe. This location almost reminds me of a Red Robin inside. Nice seating with booths and tables and the decor is loud and family friendly. They also have a flat screen TV for your viewing pleasure. I never had such good service here, and the fact it was at a Friendly's was mind-blowing. He made recommendations, checked up on us a number of times, refilled drinks without asking, offered to give us dessert to go and the works. They have some good deals going on like a app, main dish and dessert for $8.99 or something. We spent under $20 before tip for the three of us, and were stuffed on the way out with our desserts in hand. Great family place! read more

We have eaten here many many times...it's close to home, the food is usually good. I actually really like their burgers and fries, and the ice cream is always fine. Today when my daughter and I went for lunch, it was pretty empty, maybe 3 other tables with people. I felt the negative energy as soon as we walked in, the hostess sat us without a smile and a smile-less girl took our orders. The smell in there was rough, very very stinky and stale smelling. There was a family that was leaving that expressed appreciation for their server and no one was friendly back which I thought was weird. Another group came in and I don't know what happened but the one woman sat down without the rest of her party and the very grouchy sever that was a miserable looking large woman, yelled to the rest of the group to sit down! (Not to mention her ass was in my face during this time.)The people then sat and the little boys in the party were coloring and anticipating ice cream. No one took them menus or anything after a long time - way too long. The people up and left and the sassy mean woman acted put out and talked shit about them. The poor little boy left sadly because he wanted ice cream, and I heard the mom say it was the second time in a row this had happened. They lost sales today! Another group left and the table sat dirty for what seemed too long and a rogue fly enjoyed tasting everything left on the table. Then they started arguing over redoing the seating chart and again just completely ignoring we were there. This place is absolute trash. Came in at 11pm for a take out order and got garbage instead of food. 1st thing that happened was told they had no more lobster to make the lobster quesadilla after we ordered and paid for it. Then the shift manager apologized which was fine, but followed with they have more and it's frozen and for the next day and wouldn't want to rush it because it would be rubbery as well as wouldn't cook well and would not wait for it to defrost. The widest part about this was we ordered 3 chicken avocado sandwiches which I think they forgot because the whole staff with manager included were arguing in the kitchen with the door open and it took an additional 10-15 mins after they brought half of the order. Once they gave it to us and we got back to our room to eat the damn chicken wasn't fully cooked. Like WTF you said all that crap about the frozen lobster and gave us under cook chicken which will make you sick. Just to note the whole place was filthy with un-bused tables that had remnants of patrons that left who knows when. We ate here everyday during our trip to Hershey last weekend. There aren't a lot of restaurants in the area, and its almost impossible to get in anywhere for breakfast on the weekend. I didn't know they served breakfast, but it was delicious. The omelette was stuffed with 4 cheeses with a thin layer of egg. I personally hate thick layer after layer of folded egg. The home fries were really good, and so were the pancakes. At dinner I had the tuna melt, which was delicious. I also saw their steak and cheese melt, which looked really good too. For dessert we shared the Reeses pieces sundae, which I enjoyed just as much as when I was a child. I took away a star because the service sucked. It wasn't crowded any of the 3 times we went, and it took almost an hour to get our breakfast the first morning, and took a while that evening and the next morning. read more

My wife and I stopped in on a Friday afternoon. The manager sat us right away and we perused the menu. We waited for almost 10 minutes and no one waited on us. We would expect this if it was busy, however there were maybe four other parties eating at the restaurant at that time and several of the waitresses were sitting and eating. By itself is no big deal. However Several of the wait staff began coming our way, made eye contact, and quickly turned around. About 10 minutes of us waiting, another family came in and were served right away. I just decided it wasnt worth my time or money so we left. This does not affect my opinion of Friendlys as a whole but the management of this location needs to get this fixed. I came to Friendly's on New Year's Day and when I walked in I actually waited at the host stand for at least five minutes, but I was at least acknowledged and was told they would be right with us. There looked to be two servers and one person making the ice cream. However, there was probably only about 6 tables occupied. We sat down and pretty much knew what we wanted. I asked for an adult portion of the kids craft mac and cheese (weird request I know) but definitely not the first time I have done this. I have never had an issue prior, but instead of coming back and asking me if the kids portion was okay she just gave me that instead of asking if I wanted to double it or something in addition to that. I was going to order something else after I was still hungry, but unfortunately our server never came back. I ended up walking to the host stand for our check. I asked to have an ice cream sundae to go. She apologized and said they were short staffed.. I am in the business and although I thought the amount of tables occupied with two servers was manageable, I understood and didn't know all of the details. So I of course let her know it was no problem! I was then waiting on my ice cream, I waited for about another ten minutes and he made it to eat there instead, so it sat on the counter for about five minutes before i finally asked if that was mine. It in fact was, so he took the ice cream and just moved it to a plastic to go container with it being melted... I come here every so often and was extremely disappointed, mostly in my sundae!
