Major thanks to Friendly Tree Service! For a while my cousin's backyard was littered with stumps. There was this especially troublesome stump, massive and portruding, that grew through a part of my fence. They wasted no time bringing in all the machinery and leaving without a trace. They gave a good quote for the work I requested, however when they came to do the job they only trimmed the tree I requested to be totally taken down. During the initial quote I specifically stated I wanted the tree down, and I was assure he understood my request. On the day the work was done when I questioned why the tree was not removed he stated he only quoted me for a trimming. He showed me on the quote that he did not put removal. I guess I was at fault since I should have read into the quote a little more and verified with him again that it was for removal of the tree, I thought it was clear when we walked the property and I touched the tree several times and specifically stated to remove the tree and he said to the stump or ground the stump and I said just to the stump no grinding of the stump was nessacary. Also when I questioned other trimming I requested he said he did as much as he could and that my neighbors were complaining which was not true. At that moment I asked him to leave because I was totally frustrated and felt I got bated and switched. So the price which I thought was good was actually comparable to others for the same work of trimming. I don't know if it was a language barrier or just a pure bate and switch. I would not recommend them and if you do use them make sure your quote is very descriptive for the work you are requesting. read more

We had some trees at my Dad's house in NJ that were making a mess. John came out and reviewed our situation and got back to us with a quote quickly. We accepted and set up a date and time. They came right on time and finished quickly. Aside from the fact that a couple of trees were missing and our yard was sunnier and more spacious feeling, you would never have known they were there. Called to inquire about firewoof and was told someone would contact me. Contacted by a guy named "Tony " who went over prices and told him I would get back to him.  I called him back and the prices changed for delivery and his customer service was horrible, which was the beginning of the end but needed the wood. Received the two cords I ordered and the majority of it was to big for my stove, which I discussed with him prior.  I contacted "Tony " about the wood size and he said he would exchange it.  After stacking what I could actually use, there was 317 pieces he needed to exchange.  after informing "Tony ", he sent an empty truck to pick up the oversized piece, which was concerning, but gave it back. A couple of days later, the wood arrives and half of what I exchanged arrived. Immediately, I contacted "Tony" who's horrible customer service kicked in and was arguing over the sizes of wood I sent back meanwhile, I measured every returned piece. Following that conversation, I never received the rest of what he owed me nor received a refund. I have attempted to contact him several times to no avail and the friendly tree service crew pushes my complaints off onto "Tony ".  Friendly tree service is condoning this horrible business person "Tony" and are just as responsible.  I will never use them again as well as never recommend. My very large Norway Spruce tree in front of my house gave me a scare when it had numerous white sap leaks all over it looking really disgusting and appearing very sickly. I thought it was going to die as I thought it was diseased or something and I sought out help by searching the internet for a tree expert to assess the problem. I called around without luck until I exchanged messages with Friendly Tree Services, whom I had never dealt with before, as most companies seemed focused on cutting down my tree, and what I wanted was a tree expert to tell me what was happening to my tree before I did any cutting. Anyway, Friendly Tree said they would send a Certified Tree Expert to look at my tree and give me the story on what was going on. I asked how much that inspection/evaluation would cost and to my surprise it was nothing! I was still skeptical but the tree expert came and told me the sap was draining out from my tree because of the holes made in it by Yellow Belly Sap Sucker bird(s?), but the good news was they were probably done for the Spring season with draining and eating the sap from my tree and moved out, leaving the tree ugly but not fatally harmed. He said I needed to do nothing and the tree would heal itself, which it does seem to be doing very well and is looking a lot less ugly. And true to their word, it was absolutely free and he even refused a tip! I have never used Friendly Tree Service for cutting and pruning trees so I can't speak to their service there, but if it is anywhere near the good service they provided me (and not making a dime on it), they would be high on my list of a good tree company to use and I believe you should consider them as well. read more

I've hired them twice - once 2 years ago (Aug 2015) to take down 10+ large trees, another (this week - June 2017) to take down one more large tree. Each time their communication and quotes have been super speedy. And their crews are punctual, communicative, hard-working, and get the job done without tearing up the rest of your yard. Horribly unprofessional office staff. I had their Arborist come to assess a tree, and the specialist was fine. I tried to schedule the maintenance/pruning of the tree, after signing a contract agreeing to the price and terms, and they could not give me a day/time when the work would be done. Initially, it was scheduled, then I got a call saying their truck had mechanical problems and they could do it the following Friday. I called the evening before (5pm), and I got a very curt woman saying they didn't know what time they'd be there until their crew returned from a job, and I would get an email. I got no email, no call and no one showed up on Friday. I emailed Friday and got no response, then middle of the day on Saturday, in the pouring rain, a crew shows up. We were heading out so I told them to reschedule and insisted the office call me first. I then immediately got a phone call from a guy, Tony, who was on some other job insisting to me he called and spoke to someone (some young woman) the day before to confirm. I told him he was mistaken (My cell was the only number they had, and no one had called me). He indignantly told me, "maybe I misdialed, so I must be a liar and you should just get over it!" I hung up at that point since all I had ever tried to do was get a confirmation when they would be there so I could be home, and also give my neighbor a heads up since the tree in question hung right over their house. I called the office that Saturday (no one was in, of course) and left a message explaining (calmly) my displeasure with the turn of events and if they still wanted to do the work ($500 worth of work), they needed to call me to schedule it, and not to send Tony. I have heard from no one. Aside from their Arborist, they have been disrespectful and unprofessional. I can not recommend them. read more

Friendly Tree Service did not give us much service, and they are not so friendly. Tony Lang, the owner, and his crew do not finish the job! We had 5 trees fall on our West Orange property March 2, 2018 and we contracted Friendly Tree to remove them. They removed the trees and left the stumps! We still have the stumps and I'm writing this on August 20, 2018. Each time we emailed or confronted him at his office, he would say "next week". Lies. At some point he told us he sub-contracted the stump work to another contractor. This contractor never showed up either. Now, on August 20, 2018 we found someone else to grind down the most intrusive of the stumps. He says he cleans up after Friendly Tree Service all the time.They do not finish the job!. We paid Friendly Tree Service good money and they did not finish the job. A word to the wise: If you need a tree service, do not use Friendly Tree Service! read more

Had them come out and provide a quote for mostly cleanup/trimming and a small tree removal. Had three companies come out on the same day and of the three, John was the most knowledgeable and the one I felt most comfortable with. Price was a little higher than the others, but they came down some to make it an easy choice. Service was excellent, trees looked great, and was very happy with the end result. Definitely recommend at least giving them a look. If I need more done in the future, I'd call and use them again. read more

He enjoys teaching while working, is very honest, fair, reliable and a pleasure to work with. They spent a lot of time helping us choose trees and plants that we like but will also survive and thrive. They have all of the most sophisticated equipment, a talented, accommodating and friendly crew. In spite of many changes, communication between John, the installers and us was excellent. They ask first, confirm placement, then plant or cut. They take pride in their work and seemed to enjoy the end product almost as much as we did- a great collaboration. At the end, they power washed the driveway and even our old garbage cans - didn't ask for that but appreciated it. It couldn't have been a better or more enjoyable project. Nice guys, and competent. I have to give them a bad review for the trouble they had in scheduling this job. I believe it was 7 or 8 months from the estimate to the completion of the job, just to cut down two small locust trees on the back of my property. The worst part was that the delays ended up not making sense. After the estimate, they showed up to do the job and decided they didn't have the right equipment and needed access to a neighbor's property, something I needed to arrange. A month or two later they showed up again and decided the ground was too soft. Fast forward through the summer to the late fall, after a couple more delays, they show up again and finally do the job with the same equipment they had on hand the first time they visited, and without stepping foot on our neighbor's land. To be fair, different crews have different ideas about how to approach a given job, and that was what was probably going on. But all the confusion and the delays were frustrating. Just my experience and it might have been an anomaly - I wouldn't be at all surprised if 90% of their customers are totally happy with them. read more

They were great coming out to give us an estimate, but when it came to getting them out to do the work, that was another story. When the guy gave us the estimate, he said they could come out within the week, we booked with them and then nothing happened. Finally got them to respond and scheduled another appointment on a Saturday, verified by phone and email the day before that they would be there first thing in the morning and morning came and went. Called, left numerous messages and then, by mistake, I'm sure, someone picked up and she assured me that they were coming but would not be there til early afternoon. Didn't show, called and the woman picked up again and said she would check and call me back. She did call me back only to tell me that we never had an appt for that day. 6 weeks later they called me to arrange to come out. I didn't call the back as by then we had brought someone else in and I wanted nothing to do with Friendly Tree Service again. I will tell anyone who will listen never to use them. read more

They came exactly when they said they would, it took exactly the time to complete as they said it would and they clean up after themselves. Clearly an experienced, professional, and therefore customer pleasing operation. Would recommend to anyone needing work done. read more

This folks are amazing. I called about fungus on a couple of my trees. They came out to the house and looked the trees. Then gave me advise not only about the trees with fungus but all of the other trees. He even told me what to get at Homedepot to save money! Wow I was really in shock. In the past when I bought a new house with a lot of trees on the property I called the tree service recommended by our realtor. That guy told me every tree on the property needed to be removed (about 10 trees) and he had a garbagy reason for every one. The absolute deal killer was when he told me the historic oak in front was dead (despite all the green leaves) and had to be removed immediately for $10,000. I called Friendly Tree Service and said does this tree look dead to you? And they laughed and said see the green leaves? They didn't recommend that any of the trees go. The pruning was reasonable especially considering the 10,000 I had saved. Now I am in another house and called because of their great service. They came exactly when they said they would and said that I didn't have to be home. They were super friendly and once again saved me money by explaining that some stuff didn't need to be done. super friendly to deal with and worth the money because they won't lie to you. read more

We have used Friendly Tree before; they did a good job. I had a giant dead oak in my yard that I wanted cut down and after checking other tree services we decided to use Friendly again. I had to hire a town police officer, who was paid by the hour ,because the street had to be closed. So I was a little agitated when Friendly did not show up on time and after waiting 35 minutes I had to call to find out why they were late. I was told they had a job before mine and would be there in 20 minutes. They arrived an hour late and did a professional job, cleaned up everything. The only thing I was annoyed about was how careless the workers were with my hedges. I spoke to them about the hedges and they promptly began taking care when loading the cut logs.. All in all they did a quality job, they just need to make be sure they arrive on time. read more

Terrible experience. Crew ruined my new grass, spent under two hours on an 825$ job, and left branches all over lawn. Worse: seven days later a seven foot branch fell on my car as my wife, neighbor, and myself watched from ten feet away. Called company; they came over after third request. Said the owner would call me back. Three weeks later, two follow-up calls and no response. This will cost me another 300-400 in damages. Worse their performance could have easily severely injured us. The company did not even offer to come and see if they missed any other branches. NO NOT us this company!!! Incredibly poor safety and customer service. read more
