Marvin, the owner of Happy Trees, stopped by my property to give me a thorough analysis, recommendations and a written estimate. He also informed me about the need for a town permit. I had interviewed another tree company for the job but they never mentioned the permit nor did they provide a written scope of work or written estimate. That other company was less expensive than Happy Trees but their lack of professionalism was a red flag to me. I signed with Happy Trees and Marvin and his crew (seemed like 10 guys) showed up promptly to start my project. While one guy was on a crane cutting down branches, another team was busy clearing my backyard, Marvin was grinding the tree stump and another team was picking up the debris and disposing of the branches in a very loud grinding machine. Marvin and his crew completed the job in about 5 hours (not including their lunch break). For the amount of work, I think 5 hours to complete the job and clean up is pretty quick. They were thorough, efficient and fast. They worked harmoniously together and in perfect sync. It was fascinating to watch from my kitchen window. Marvin is the consummate professional who takes pride in his work. Do yourself a favor and contact Marvin and Happy Trees before you hire anyone. They were voted the Best Tree Company in Bloomfield, and based on my experience, it is truly well deserved.

They came within a few days to make an assessment, gave me a very fair price and arrived within the week to remove the entire tree before the next storm rolled in. The one (crab apple) tree in our Clifton backyard has finally died. Our house was built in the mid…read more50's and I suspect that this tree had been there many decades before that. The tree bloomed every year and provided shade over our picnic table year after year. Lately, I noticed that more and more branches became bare. Pieces of bark then began to fall to the ground. Afterwards, smaller branches began to break off and fall down. Finally, the tree was totally bare and I was concerned that the brittle branches would crack and pose a hazard to us and our home. It was time then to have the tree taken down. After calling several tree contractors, I spoke with CJ Miller, owner of Montclair Tree Experts. CJ met with me, looked over the yard and the tree, and gave me a firm (and fair) price that same day. Shortly thereafter, we set a date to have the tree cut down to the stump. Prior to the crew's arrival, I moved everything I could away from the work area. CJ's crew showed up exactly as promised; CJ also called ahead as I had asked prior to arriving. A three man crew worked on our tree. One was the "cutter". Two others picked and hauled away each piece as they fell. My driveway was used as a staging area. Once all cutting had been completed, the crew fed all of the wood into their mulcher (at the curb) and then proceeded to rake my yard clean, blowing away left over debris from my sidewalks, driveway, and street. Overall, I was highly pleased with the efficiency and care CJ's crew demonstrated and highly recommend them to perform similar work. It must be pointed out that CJ inspected the job prior to, and upon completion.

I was referred to American Tree by word of mouth. Rich came to do an estimate and we weren't even home. Very convenient. Unfortunately, our driveway was too narrow to bring a crane in the back so it needed to be cut down by hand. Rich handled everything. He reached out to my neighbors for me, temporarily took down a fence, and cut the tree down in a couple hours in its entirety. I was not only so impressed with the excellent customer service, but also the skill American Tree had getting this difficult tree down! They cleaned up well and I highly recommend these guys. Our garage wasn't harmed and they worked between power lines but got the job done!

A tree of this size located so close to a house requires a crane to safely remove it. However, our tree was located in our landlocked backyard and a crane could not be positioned closely enough to remove it. We worked closely with Brian Rombough at American Tree to plan its removal using a climber ... Brian. Brian is a hands-on owner/manager who we've used for many years to feed and trim all of our trees, so we knew we could trust him to take down our tree safely. On the big day Brian supervised his crew from above rather than from the ground. Brian was very cautious and took all the time he needed to assess the removal of each large limb and finally the trunk. He had a small profile but tall lift which he was able to maneuver into our backyard. This specialized piece of machinery made it possible to cut the tall truck into the small sections that were necessary to do the job safely. Brian's team also accommodated the loading of the trunk sections onto our carpenter friend's trailer so that he could cut them into timbers and put this fine wood to good use. Apparently our tree died of old age and the trunk was solid wood. It takes a special person to climb up into a very large tree and remove it from underneath them. Thank you Brian!
