We hired A&H Tree Service based on a neighbor's referral to remove a few branches from a large tree…read morein our yard. They did remove the branches--and maybe one more than expected--but overall, the work itself was fine, and they cleaned up the debris. That said, the customer experience left a lot to be desired. Communication was lacking throughout, except when they repeatedly followed up for the deposit. They didn't tell us in advance that our driveway and front street needed to be clear for their truck, so my partner had to rush home from work to move the car. After the job, no photos were shared, and when I asked about the price and 3% credit card fee, they pointed to the contract. Fair enough--but it would've been helpful if they had mentioned that upfront. I offered to send cash or a check to avoid the surcharge, but they said credit card is now the only accepted method. Between the lack of communication and inflexibility, I wouldn't recommend them based on customer service alone. Hopefully the residue left on our vinyl fence comes off with a hose.

So why didn't A & H's team show up until closer to ten? "They're coming, don't worry." Easy for him not to worry; I'm the one paying. When I asked Javier about it, "don't worry, you'll get reimbursed back for the time." -Never happened. Never saw a dime of that back. 2.-A year later, needed to get the remainder of the stump ground down. They wouldn't commit to a day or time, or time frame. Told me they'd give me notice. They texted me an hour before. I wasn't home. Did they grind it? -Hardly. They were there and left within 45 minutes, and lo and behold, the stump was not ground sufficiently. 3. We had to have them come back, further cost, and at no point do they EVER remove the mulch. So this is just cost upon cost. And yet again, no communication. 4. At no point do they communicate clearly. Javier seems bothered, constantly. People are dropping thousands of dollars for services, and he seems annoyed, quite frankly. Would leave messages, for about 2 weeks continuously getting told someone would call back. -I'd wait a few days, no call back. The most frustrating experience.

The one (crab apple) tree in our Clifton backyard has finally died. Our house was built in the mid…read more50's and I suspect that this tree had been there many decades before that. The tree bloomed every year and provided shade over our picnic table year after year. Lately, I noticed that more and more branches became bare. Pieces of bark then began to fall to the ground. Afterwards, smaller branches began to break off and fall down. Finally, the tree was totally bare and I was concerned that the brittle branches would crack and pose a hazard to us and our home. It was time then to have the tree taken down. After calling several tree contractors, I spoke with CJ Miller, owner of Montclair Tree Experts. CJ met with me, looked over the yard and the tree, and gave me a firm (and fair) price that same day. Shortly thereafter, we set a date to have the tree cut down to the stump. Prior to the crew's arrival, I moved everything I could away from the work area. CJ's crew showed up exactly as promised; CJ also called ahead as I had asked prior to arriving. A three man crew worked on our tree. One was the "cutter". Two others picked and hauled away each piece as they fell. My driveway was used as a staging area. Once all cutting had been completed, the crew fed all of the wood into their mulcher (at the curb) and then proceeded to rake my yard clean, blowing away left over debris from my sidewalks, driveway, and street. Overall, I was highly pleased with the efficiency and care CJ's crew demonstrated and highly recommend them to perform similar work. It must be pointed out that CJ inspected the job prior to, and upon completion.
