The food is always consistent and quality of meat that is used. Everything is always fresh. I had the hand cut Pastrami sandwich with herb fries. The Pastrami was so tender and moist. One of the best I've tasted in a long time. The herb fries are always done to perfection. They are fresh cut not frozen and seasoned well. Crab cake Benny and Chicken Swisswich the other two people with me got and they said they will definitely be back to get again. Also said it was done to perfection. This is my second time at Friedman's, and the food continues to not disappoint! I've tried the lemon ricotta pancakes, which are delicious, and this time, I tried the fried chicken and waffles, which was also really good! I also got one of their lavender & elderflower cocktails, which was sooo good, one of the best cocktails I've ever had. Friedman's was packed at around 3pm on a Saturday, so we had to wait for 20 min, but it cleared up after 4:30pm. They lost one star because the service was a little subpar: obviously they were very busy, which I didn't blame them for, but after waiting for 20 minutes and getting seated, we sat down with the breakfast/lunch menu, picked out what we wanted, and then as we were ordering, it hit 4pm, and the waiter took our menus and said we could only order from the dinner menu now. Even though it was literally 1 minute over 4pm. A bit inconvenient and annoying. But the food is really delicious, so if you can go during a downtime, I'd highly recommend this place! read more

What a wonderful experience! We sat at the bar.. it was a great view overall of the restaurant and ability see the singers! Amazing performances! I'm gluten free and their selection was killer! This is an awesome local gem in Hell's Kitchen. Cozy and warm, with lots of wood and charm. Great atmosphere. The menu is extensive, reasonable and covers lots of tastes. We came for lunch and enjoyed great cocktails like the Bee Sting (bourbon with ginger, honey & lemon -delicious!) and Hudson Margarita (frothy and tasty!) The matzo ball soup was very fresh, the vegetable potstickers were a great appetizer, and the pastrami hash (served with two sunnyside up eggs) was so flavorful and filling I skipped dinner!) I absolutely love Friedman's. I've been obsessed with their Reubens since I started working nearby. They have many other things on the menu that are absolutely delicious but the Reuben is my favorite. Delivery or dine-in I've never been let down. Especially when I ask for extra pickles, they list to order notes. The service, the atmosphere, the food.... "A1". Then we ordered the Korean wings and I unfortunately did got get a picture because we all grabbed them quick. They were crispy, flavorful, and delicious. Next I had a bite of my cousins mac n cheese and this was also delicious! Crispy on top and very cheesy/flavorful in the bottom. Next I enjoyed my chilaquiles and these were terrific. Crispy with a really nice tomatillo sauce and the perfect balance with the crema, queso freso, and avocado. Lastly I tried a few bites of the chicken and waffle and the lemon ricotta pancakes, not pictured. The chicken was incredibly crispy, flavorful, and tender in the middle. And the cheddar waffle was fluffy and delicious with the touch of syrup. And the habanero sauce was great! And to end it all the lemon ricotta was incredible. Seriously, everything was amazing! We were in the area at the Javits Center for Anime NYC and needed a lunch break. Originally we were going to just rough it out and eat something from one of the carts outside the convention center, but then we decided to just leave and come back. Originally we were headed to a sushi restaurant, but it was so packed we gave up. We ended up at Friedmans because a few of us have been at other locations before and we knew it would be solid. I had a tuna melt, while others had burgers and BLTs. Food was good, it was nice to sit and eat a real meal for once while attending a con at Javits. Service was a little spotty, but they were trying their best. I don't think they expected so many people to be there that day. read more

We were invited to dinner by a friend. This restaurant located at the corner of the street 8 minutes from the Jacob Javits Center is a natural place to go to after a convention. Inside was small but enough room for 10 people although they originally had only 8 people they managed to squeeze in two more. The atmosphere was lively and they had plenty of drinks to choose from on the menu. They had a variety of meals to choose from including vegan. I ordered the brick chicken and my husband chose a pastrami sandwich. My brick chicken was moist, well-seasoned and its skin was crispy. The brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes was seeping in the delicious essence of the chicken. My husbands pastrami sandwich wasn't very big but the meat was tender and delicious. He liked it. Added our name to the waitlist at approx. 12:25-they said about a 45 min wait. At 1:10 they called us for our table. They sat us at a small cocktail table, which was odd but the place was packed so we didn't complain. Our server comes over to take our order and immediately excuses herself. When she comes back I ask is everything okay, and she states "yes, I had to ask my manager about starting an order for this table because this is where the staff normally takes their breaks." At that point we ask to move because why did we wait 45min to sit at this small cocktail table where they normally place staff-who get paid to work there! My husband gets the manager and she states she'll try to find a spot. At this point our food comes and it doesn't fit on this cocktail table! They finally move us and at that point our food is cold and subpar. It was an awful experience/service. Once moved we also didn't have a waiter and one of the waitresses comes over with an attitude. We weren't offered a discount for this awful experience and the manager didn't apologize or see if we were happier. The food wasn't even good. I would never recommend this place. They would never sit a white couple at a table that like, but of course the Black couple has to sit where staff take their breaks and they saw nothing wrong with that. read more

TLDR: New American fare. Probably one of the only reasonably priced places in the area. I'm down with the sandwiches. Turkey club, tuna melt or Reuben. Also, get the fries. I don't really go for places that look like this. Is don't really gravitate towards this type of food but in an area where everything is crazy expensive, Friedman's is that one beacon of light that offers tasty filling food for a reasonable cost. The tuna melt has been my jam. Crusty rye, melty cheese, just the right gooeyness. The fries are well-seasoned, crispy and I hate ketchup but they always accommodate and sub an aioli. The Reuben is solid too if you're in the pastrami mood. Juicy hand-sliced meat, tangy dressing, sauerkraut and that melted Swiss. Recently though, the turkey club. Cranberry aioli is something I would have gagged at the thought of years ago but I'm into it. Salty bacon, tender turkey, it's piled high and just got so much flavor. A friend wanted to try Friedmans for the gluten-free options, which are plentiful. We went for breakfast on a cold, rainy May day. We had no problem getting a table...a nice booth in the back. It was busy, but not too crowded. Our server was really nice and helped us make some great selections. The food was prepared to order, and my friend was so excited about her gluten-free lemon ricotta pancakes! I also very much enjoyed my eggs and toast with potatoes. Delicious! It's somewhat spacious inside although some of the tables are really close to each other. Personally, I think Friedmans is a bit overhyped and I would never wait for a table because there's so many other good places for lunch/brunch in the city. Service here is top notch. We were able to call ahead and they held a table for our group of 10. They offer gluten free options which was a plus. The lemonade was purple (I think it was the sugar) after a good stir. I like this Friedmans location better than the UWS one since it's in a quieter area, but it does seem a bit smaller and more cramped. If you haven't been to a Friedmans before, it's somewhat overpriced breakfast/brunch food. Service was friendly and attentive, and the food came out relatively quickly. The lemon pancakes were somewhat of a miss; they tasted dry and while the citrus peels provided a tangy twist, the raspberries were underripe and bitter. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of pure/raw maple syrup and they didn't give much either. We also had the chicken and waffles, and while not bad, it was $29; coming from Dallas, I've had better for cheaper. Would pass on both next time. However, I'd recommend the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. It's very affordable (well, comparatively) and comes with a side of fries. The chicken is both crispy and creamy, likely due to the buttermilk, and almost sweet. The skin was slightly tough, but otherwise I'd order it again. read more
