This was my second time coming to this office. I've been wearing glasses for many years. And I have to say I was extremely impressed with the service front office. Staff is very friendly. Did have to wait a bit to see the doctor. The doctor is very knowledgeable and very nice, when I saw the optical department I was helped by Ofelia and she help me pick out the best pair of work glasses, progressives and sunglasses. The only thing really stopping me from giving them one star is because they fixed my glasses after numerous phone calls. After searching, we decided to finally give this place a chance because of the yelp reviews. They were super busy when we came in, but it's ok as we had an appointment. The only problem with places that are super busy is there's no doctor-client relationship. Which proved me right. I was in and out of the exam room all within 5 minutes. The choices of glasses weren't to really brag about. They seemed like the same style over and over again. I had a hard time choosing and I was surprised I actually chose one, I shouldn't have. Ugh! When I finally got them, I noticed that my right eye was having a hard time and it actually started affecting my vision and my brain. It gave me bad headaches! I thought I'd give them a chance since they were new prescriptions, but after a week, I couldn't take it. I inspected the glasses much closer and noticed that the right lense had an arch the left one didn't have. I called the place and the receptionist (I really wish I knew her name) told me that I wasn't used to them because my eye sights been bad all this time. WHAT?!?! They were for reading!! And since I'm on the computer pretty much the whole day, I wanted something to use if my eyes ever felt strained. But anyways, they fixed it. The customer is here is ridiculous. Everyone is scrambling around they don't know what they're doing and clearly more training needs to be done not only that is that it seems like everyone within that office is just incompetent. I am honestly just over this office. You only get a five minute exam because it seems like they book every five minutes you don't get the proper Eye exam care that you should receive. I've been coming to this office for many many years and this is the worst conditions that I've ever seen it in. I've dealt with one person in the past when I had a problem with my order, I believe her name was Emily. She seem to be the only one who knew what she was doing or what was going on but sadly it seems like she's no longer there. Amazing repair service today! I had some glasses that I've been meaning to fix that lost a screw... but they looked like they were on their last legs. I've been going here for 4-5 years. The wait time (1-2hr) for a 10 minute exam is pretty frustrating. And this is with an appointment. This year and last the optometrist commented on how the office booked too many clients for the day. Their standard of care for checking on retinal health is using the Optomap but it's optional. Insurance doesn't usually cover this service so you pay out of pocket. The alternative is dilation which is covered by insurance. However, I needed to request it and schedule an additional appointment for this service. If you prefer dilation over the Optomap, make sure to let them know when scheduling an appointment to avoid having to make 2! My biggest issue is related to a charge for a service (contact lens fitting) that I knew is covered by insurance since my contacts are considered medically necessary, and has been since coming here as my vision either stabilizes or gets slightly worse each year. Each year they insist on charging me then refunding me once the exam has been completed. The reason being "eye vision can improve with age" and "charging upfront prevents you from making a scene should you owe us after the exam." After coming here for years, I would hope for good faith that if in the rare event my eyes have improved and I am no longer considered medically necessary, I will pay my balance. Having to wait 5-10 business days for a refund on a charge that I knew shouldn't have happened feels backwards. Especially annoying to hear that if I don't see it hit my account to call them to remind them. 2 stars instead of 1 for the woman at the reception desk who did her best to manage my frustrations. read more

I came here for eye appointments for my 4 and 5 year old girls, and to get them glasses as well. The staff at Friedman Optometry is very friendly. Dr. Levin was great and made my kids feel comfortable. He had an alternative to dilating the eyes which I thought was great. One minor nit is that the eye exam space is a little small, and there are no extra chairs for anyone else to sit while a family member is getting their eye exam. They have a good selection of kids glasses (my 4 and 5 year old girls found pairs that they love). Maggie in particular helped our girls pick out glasses and made the experience very pleasant. She was great at helping us figure out the right size, and she is clearly very experienced in working with kids! I would recommend this place for any parents looking for a place to get an eye checkup and/or glasses for kids. read more

This business is clearly riding off of their past reviews and not providing care at all to their new patients. I had an eye doc in Santa Monica that I really liked, but after moving to Culver City, I was curious about other eye docs in the area. I found Friedman Optometry after reading all the great reviews, but had a very disappointing experience. I had a 5:15PM appointment and arrived at 5PM, hoping to be seen early. I wasn't able to see the doctor until 6PM, which is when they closed. The whole time I felt rushed as if they were trying to get rid of me. I have dry eyes, and this is what I came to the doctor that day to discuss. I specifically expressed this concern to the doctor hoping to receive some strategies to cure my dryness. Instead, he recommended one or two different contact lens brands (that I told him I had tried already before) and did not provide any additional feedback on how I could help the dryness in my eyes. After seeing the doctor, I wrapped up with another women who gave me a sample of one of the brands that the doctor had mentioned. I asked her if I could try another brand and she said I couldn't because I wasn't prescribed another brand. This was confusing to me because at my last optometrist when I paid a fitting fee, I got to sample many different contact brands to find one that worked best (which is basically what the point of the fitting fee is, to get fitted). The fitting fee here was $25 more than my last optometrist too so I was especially disappointed since I still have dry eyes and didn't even get to sample any new contacts. Huge waste of time and money. Oh, and on top of this, I had to call the office three times to get a copy of my bill because they kept forgetting. I'm going to stick to my old optometrist in the future.. read more

Doctor and staff here are fine, it is the office manager that is a problem for this business. On Nov 17 I realized I did not address an issue with my eyes so I sent a text (standard for this office). They replied Nov 18 stating that I am required to pay an additional copay because it is a medical visit vs an optical visit. We spoke and I questioned Jacqueline (office manager) stating the issue with my eyes could be the cause of my contacts and therefore an additional copay would not be required. Jacqueline became upset. Finally, she agreed to have my doctor call me back the following week. Instead, she had another doctor who was in office call me, and without understanding any of my issues he said I needed to use eye drops. I knew Jacqueline had coerced him, because how can a doctor offer a diagnosis without seeing me or asking for any details since I am the patient? I told the doctor his diagnosis did not make sense. I then told him I was no longer interested in returning, and ended the convo. Immediately after, Jacqueline sends me a text stating the doctor is requesting that I come in, when in fact I am the one who said this to the doctor. Jacqueline is a person who does not like to be wrong, and attempted to be petty when involving a doctor, who to my surprise unknowingly went along with this play. I even questioned if he knew the context behind this call, and he replied "no I actually don't". WHAT? I called Jacqueline back and told her I would no longer be coming in, and I wanted a refund of the payment made towards the glasses I ordered. I have 7 calls from her that evening. SEVEN! During the last convo I clarified to her that I was ill, and she needed to stop calling me back. She proceeded to call me 3 MORE TIMES. Now, I am told they have contacted VSP and released the authorizations of the exams, and refuse to send my prescription because I no longer wish to purchase glasses with them. Unacceptable. I have already been seen by Dr Friedman and paid for my services. I do not plan on spending another day with another doctor, when I have already done so. read more

It's been a while since I've visited an eye doctor. You can tell by the energy. Everyone was very courteous, polite and friendly ( a way all work places should be ). The woman ( sorry, I'm bad at remembering names ) who helped me pick glasses. Pulled out 4 for me that would go with my facial feature and large head, saving the best for last. I shared it with family on WhatsApp. And sure enough, they went with #4 ( best for last ). The representative is the greatest. I will be back again for my second pair in the near future. The doctor was cool and took me through the steps for my eye exam. Gave me an explanation of what's needed from me once I have the glasses in my possession to better my sight.
