Customer Service...
Brent B.

9/9/22 TLDR: They really don't care about you, and wont help in a pinch. I was recently out of town for four days to attend a wedding in northern California, and realized upon arrival to the hotel that I'd forgotten to bring extra daily contacts or spare glasses. Concerned about the prospect of wearing the same one-day contacts for four days I called Modo (where I normally go), thinking that they've had patients in this situation before and could offer advice. I first left a voicemail 30 minutes before they opened at 10am, at around 12pm I still had not received a call back and called and left another voicemail. Two hours and still no call I texted them asking if they were even open because I've left two voicemails and received no callback. I finally received a callback from the desk at around 3pm, five hours, two voicemails and a text message later. I explained the situation to the staff member who looked up my information and advised that because my contact prescription had elapsed in June (3 months prior) they were unable to help, that the doctor under no circumstances would extend the prescription until I had another office visit. The best they could do is send my eyeglasses prescription so I could have another pair of glasses made, which the staff member said could "be a souvenir from my trip". No other alternatives given, no other help offered, just to go get another pair of glasses made for the three days left that I was out of town. The reasonable thing to do would have been to book a new contact appointment for the coming week and offer to extend my prescription (which hasn't changed in 10 years) for the three days so I could get just a few contacts for the weekend. Or at a minimum offer some advice on how to get through the next few days with just the one pair of dailies. But no, they really did nothing to help. Thanks for nothing Modo - you can cross me off your patient list.

So elegant and clean!

They helped my mom find glasses that make her feel fabulous and did it with a smile. 91 and looking like a star.

Now, this review is not about their Optometry team, they might be great, I have no idea. I went in with a prescription for 3 glasses, needing 5 total. There selection was pretty good, not great, but I can't see so I really needed these glasses. They are a tad pricey, but that was also okay, as they promised me these glasses would be ready in a week and a half. I said, I'll give you two weeks, can you do it. I can't drive, I can't read. They promised that 1 and a half weeks would be plenty of time. Right. Almost a month later I called them and I got the "we were just about to call you" line, which you know is always false. They said my last pair just came in. I asked why they had not called when the first pair came in as I was very clear I could not drive or read. I got silence. I went in to get my glasses and waited close to 20 minutes Just for them to be fitted and put in a case. Now when I finally saw someone she was great, thus the 3 and not a 1 rating. She took care to fit the glasses right and put them all in cases--not the cases I thought I would have like the ones with the name of these expensive designer glasses I bought, but whatever. I won't be back. Don't make promises you can't keep, if there is an issue call the customer and don't make them call you, because having my husband drive me around is just so much fun and not at all a waste if his workday.

She's not welcoming and unprofessional, especially in her interaction with children. This was the first time we encountered staff who were rude to kids, and because of this experience, we have decided not to return to this clinic.

I needed two pairs of prescription glasses: one regular pair and one with an FL-41 tint. They even gave me a temporary pair to use while mine were being made, which was such a thoughtful touch. Everything was unbelievably fast, especially considering it was around Thanksgiving. I only had to wait a few days for the tinted pair, and I was genuinely impressed by their turnaround time. They spent so much time with me figuring out the perfect tint darkness. I kept wanting it darker, and they were endlessly patient, making sure I wouldn't end up with something too dark that I might regret later. They even showed me multiple lenses with different tint levels so I could really make the right decision. I live in Hawaii and found them through ChatGPT while planning a trip to LA. After calling and comparing several places, I still chose Hourglass Optical--and I'm so glad I did. Their prices are incredibly reasonable, honestly maybe too reasonable given the level of expertise and care they provide. Other places were either more expensive or cheaper but far less competent. This one was the clear winner. Parking is easy--they have a small lot in the back. They also love dogs, which I felt was important to mention because it instantly made me feel welcome. The business has been around for about 50 years and was the first (and only!) store that made glasses within an hour. A long-standing family business that provides excellent work at a fair price deserves all the praise.

It felt insane. Then I found JINS randomly strolling down abbot kinney, and the difference is unreal. Their frames are actually stylish and super affordable, but the craziest part? The prescription lenses are INCLUDED for free. No hidden fees, no add-ons stacking up.. I even added a rosy cheek tint to my lenses for about $100, which I've literally never seen offered anywhere else. Such a unique touch and it actually looks amazing in person. It feels like they completely rethought how glasses should be priced and designed. Super innovative, transparent, and genuinely worth it. I don't think I can ever go back to buying at the optometrist!!

My son loved them. A couple of months later, one of the screws on the frame loosened and fell out. We returned to the store, and the issue was fixed within about 20 minutes at no charge. The woman who helped us was polite and helpful. Unfortunately, the same issue happened again. In January, the screw loosened once more, causing one of the lenses to fall out and break. This time, our experience was completely different. The man assisting us showed no empathy or apology despite this being the second time we returned for the same problem. Instead, he blamed my 11-year-old son, suggesting he didn't know how to properly wear or remove his glasses. His tone was condescending and dismissive, which was unacceptable. We were told the lens needed to be replaced at a cost of $90, were promised the glasses would be ready in 30 minutes, and that we would receive a text when they were ready. After waiting over an hour with no text, we returned to the store only to find the glasses had been ready but no notification was sent. To make matters worse, the same employee again lectured my son on how to wear and remove his glasses, stating, "Glasses only belong on your face or in the case, nowhere else." He then added that if we returned again with issues, there would be additional charges, as if he were doing us a favor -- despite us paying for a replacement lens and dealing with repeated defects and poor service. This employee's behavior was unprofessional and far below the standard of every other staff member we've interacted with at JINS. I've been a loyal JINS customer since purchasing my first pair in Osaka after graduating college, and I've recommended the brand to others, including my son. Unfortunately, this experience has shown me that I can find better quality glasses and far better customer service elsewhere. JINS has lost a loyal customer.
