We have eaten here twice before and the food was very good but not yesterday. First off there is now a sign that says they have no fried green tomatoes and with that being the name of the restaurant you would think they would definitely have them. Just about everything that was fried was way overcooked. They do have a lot of vegetables but all the meats were so dry and overcooked. We were so disappointed. Our waiter was absolutely wonderful!! Looking at the staff we think this has new owners than the other two times we were here and that is probably why the food was disappointing. read more

The food is lacking true southern flavor. The best thing I had today was the can sprite. The fish/ swali and a couple sides seem to have a bitter taste. read more

Easy to find, just off Atlanta Highway, plenty of praying spaces...I mean, parking spaces! We were welcomed by Destiny with a friendly hello, who quickly gave us a receipt and helped us get a reward card, which immediately gave us 5% back on the cost of our all-you-cash eat meal! We easily found a comfortable booth, and our server, Debby, quickly took our drink orders and we grabbed our plates and headed to the food bars. I had a helping of dressing, topped with a savory beef stew, and added sweet yams, fried green tomato slices, chicken-fried steak, and fried mushrooms. I also took the opportunity to try fried liver nuggets and fried gizzards (not bad at all!). Back at our table I found a large glass of cold sweet tea waiting for me (nicely brewed, extra sweet, just the way I like it!). It all tasted so good and full of southern comfort. I appreciated the friendly, frequent service of Debby. We've long been fans of buffet-style restaurants. We are newly-moved to Montgomery, and eager to find new eating places, and Fried Tomato Buffet has earned a spot on our prestigious, discerning list of favorites! We appreciated the words of wisdom and encouragement, the cleanliness, the service, the affordable price, the wide selection, the friendly welcome, and the free rewards club membership. Only one small caution: the entrance is an attractive, double-door entrance, but the right-hand door, as you approach the entrance is bolted shut, and the left-hand door opens outward only partially! It caught us by surprise...no sign or warning was posted on the outside to give us any warning! Upon entering we did see a sign posted on the inside, a notification that the door opens only "half way"! Maybe post a sign outside the door? Maybe modify the door hardware? However, Fried Green Tomato is a strong 4-point favorite for us. Thank you, Destiny and Debby, for helping to make our experience comfortable and enjoyable. We'll be back! read more

Very disappointed! Came here to Montgomery for my brother's memorial. I ate at Martha's yesterday and it was good. Someone suggested fried tomato buffet, so we tried it today. The food was not good at all. They had a note on the receipt that said if you waste food, you would be charged 6.99/lb for the wasted food. If you seasoned the food, people wouldn't waste it. They also have a 75 minute time limit to eat there. Did that even need to be said? The drink is not included with the buffet. I asked for a to go cup for my tea, and they wanted to charge me 1.35 for an empty styrofoam cup. I only had one cup of tea and I didn't finish it because the food was so bad, so I just wanted to leave and take my tea with me that was not included with the buffet. I think the owners are very delusional about this restaurant. It's not good and they have all these rules like people should be grateful to be there. No! You should be grateful that people are willing to come there and spend their money on that low quality food. They also had a sign up saying if your pants are saggy or if you have on a crop top, you will be denied service. I don't wear either, but I think that is discrimination. This place, the rules, and the food absolutely sucks. I will not be going back. I don't even know how the people of Montgomery are allowing this place to stand. read more

Fried Tomato Buffet can be hit or miss based on the location. We stopped at this location in Montgomery,AL as we made our way back to GA from Mississippi. This location had more meat and side options (meats included: ribs, fried fish, fried chicken, baked chicken, and country fried steak) and the food was well seasoned, but the overall experience was just okay to me. The pricing was a bit higher than other Fried Tomato Buffets. The location in Mcdonough,GA charges ~$11 for adults. This location was charging $9-11 for kids, which is higher than normal for small buffet pricing, especially since my son did not eat anything except for their ice cream, which I could have just paid for separately for $1. On a positive note, it was cool to see that they had a drive through window. There was a staff member constantly fixing plates for the guests that were using drive through services. I enjoyed the country fried steak and fried chicken, but felt that the chicken salad was too sweet, yams were too sweet and some of the fried items were too greasy (not drained - such as the fried green tomatoes). My family liked the flavor of the soul food better than the GA location, but I felt that the food was just okay. Overall, I'd recommend for families who enjoy soul food in the area. read more

Order a group lunch of five... we were sooooo disappointed with the food.. the dough on the tomatoes were uncooked and raw. I ordered country fried steak which were frozen patties.. The inside of one of the patties was raw. We called the establishment to speak to the manager but they were unavailable. Sad to say we will not order from this restaurant again read more

After a long day of walking, and touring collages, we finally came to a stop at the Friend Tomato buffet. Normally one would notice the excellent employee service, however the air and atmosphere are humid and sticky, I could only compare this experience to walking into a sweat shop, uncomfortable and depressing. Luckily I didn't have to wait to eat, I was sat down and was able to get what would be literally the worst food I've ever eaten at a buffet. The fish was dry, smelled and appeared undercooked, anything containing dairy was sour, and had a slightly lemony taste. There were "mystery chunks" in the pudding and the Salisbury steak was horrendous. Luckily the chicken and pork seemed cooked and edible but they both were dryer than a pigs arse in the summer. Overall, great service, horrible food. read more

this restaurant has always had amazing food. The owner may not be as nice, but I do like the food and the food choices that they have.

The name is "Fried Tomato Buffet", but don't expect to eat any fried tomatoes if you go for dinner because they don't serve fried tomatoes after 3pm. What's next? A burger restaurant with burger in their name not selling burgers after 3pm, just chicken sandwiches? But the worst part was there were several empty spots in the buffet where nothing was, and several empty spots on the buffet where food used to be but just crumbs left. I asked two employees if they were bringing anything out soon and they said, "no, that's it for tonight". I said, " it's only 6:05pm and you've got all these empty spots?" They said, "there's a sign that says check the buffet before you pay." I said, " yeah, but I thought that was so you could see if you had food you liked, NOT to see if you actually had put food out at all!" I left and I won't be back. If you go, check to see if they actually have food out before you pay no matter how early in the evening you think it is. read more

There is this place called " Fried Tomato Buffet" in Montgomery, AL I used to go to with my family when I was living in Montgomery. I would always get the fried chicken, cabbage, Mac and cheese, and cornbread with a mini salad on the side. I always enjoy my meal and would have a to-go plate as well. The service was great and they always brought out fresh food; It wasn't too crowded either. I believe recently they added a drive through for those who don't wish to dine-in. They were pretty clean from the times I have gone but I'm not sure of the Covid precautions they have in place. All in all, it a place I tend to visit whenever I travel back home. read more

I went through the drive through and ordered fried fish with cabbage and Mac and cheese. I also ordered a pork cop meal. My complaint is about the fish meal. The cabbage was hard pieces that you couldn't cut with a fork and the Mac and cheese was ok. I spoke to someone and told them I would send them a picture of the cabbage in my box. Sent the photo and got the response of "sorry for the inconvenience l will tell the kitchen to do better from now on". They didn't offer a refund is the side or a replacement. I don't know about y'all but I expect to receive what I pay for and their prices have gone up. I'm posting a picture of the food I received. Because they didn't offer me anything to compensate for their poor quality of food. read more

The food was delicious and the service was great. Always a good experience when I eat here.

awesome fried green tomatoes with country gravy sauce on the side. ordered for takeout and was ready when I got there. 2 thumbs up.

I recently came here with my grandma and I was some pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious! The standouts for me were the mashed potatoes, the lima beans, the steak tips, and the fried chicken... after looking back at the pictures I took... it was pretty much everything I had. It was so good that I'm thinking about heading home to Montgomery sooner than usual just to take my grandma here again! read more

Ok... so this is a country cooking buffet... That being said, it is a good one. The vegetables were fresh and cooked well. The meats I tried were very good too. Fried Chicken was good but my favorite was the chicken and dumplings. As for the fried green tomatoes; they were very good as well. I've never seen so many in one pan! They are not fancy as at nicer restaurants but they are breaded just enough and cooked perfectly. I at too many! read more

It's an old Ryan's that has been opened by a local. It is almost like a Chinese restaurant but serving American food. A couple dishes on the tables are Typical Chinese. The carrot salad is absolutely awful. I can tell nobody southern made it. The rest is a little bit better than average and at $9.50 for dinner that includes a drink, I would say this is an absolute win. The place was busy and many looked to be enjoying their food. I enjoyed it. The fried chicken was delicious. read more

I really tried to like this restaurant but it was difficult to like. Upon walking in I was hit with thick humidity and a musty smell. The food looks okay, upon taste all foods tasted sour. Especially the ones that need milk ( Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes). Sweet tea is way too sweat. They said no refund for food not eaten?? It was not consumable. Upon entering the bathroom there were only two stalls open. shit coating the walls of one and toilet paper all in the second. I feel sick after eating. The only entertainment and what kept me going was the "live laugh love" quotes on the tv. Overall I would rather roll in the bathroom shit then eat another bite. read more

There are a few times in life when a meal is so expertly crafted that it leaves a positive impact on you for life. Unfortunately, the Fried Tomato Buffet does not offer this experience. I went to lunch with my mother and girlfriend, and we decided that this buffet would satisfy our desire for a quick, and tasty meal. However, upon our arrival we were met with what smelled like dirty diapers. This smell did not leave for the entire duration of our time in the restaurant. We went to sit down after an encounter with the restaurant's very friendly staff. The tables were all dirty it seemed like, however we found one and we sat down at it. We then went to get our food. We got fish, casserole, country fried steak, and potatoes. It was all tasteless, dry, and bland. With no seasoning at all. Despite the presence of southern hospitality, the Fried Tomato Buffet left me as a very unsatisfied customer. With a dirty atmosphere, and bland food. read more

i've only been here for 10 minutes... it's hot, humid, smells horrendous, I am able to see musk in the air. based off of this, i've likely lost decades off my life. The mac and cheese is sour, the fish fell apart, looking as if it was semi-decomposed, and they created the most repulsive, unpalatable, stomach churning abomination, as shown in the picture. It's been 5 minutes since I ate this food, and my stomach is already feeling like the swampy marsh this food came from. This restaurant has the most rancid, despicable, and barely edible collection of food I've ever seen. I genuinely regret eating here, and already feel nauseous. You have better chances surviving a nuclear warhead than you do eating a full meal at this sewer plant of a restaurant. read more

Fried Tomato Buffet - Smashing. Came all the way from Cali to get some good southern hospitality. - Buffets Near Me - Montgomery, Alabama

There's nothing wrong with Fried Tomato Buffet. It's just not a wow experience. There are better places for southern cooking in the area and there are worse. This is just middle of the road southern fare. Everything is well cooked, the restaurant is usually decently clean and the servers are very nice. The food is just not seasoned and sometimes the selections are just lacking...I'd like to see more of a variety of desserts. For a buffet, there are just not a lot of options at times. The fried green tomatoes are great and so is the fresh, hot buttered rolls. I also really like their salad bar, it's nice to see a lot of vegetarian options there. To their credit, there is hot sauce and pepper sauce on every table to get the seasoning to your liking. The price for a drink and meal is just right, and this place is just fine....just no wow. read more

Oh how I absolutely adored this place!!! If you need to get your fill of good ole' Southern home cooking, then this is your place. On top of their fried green tomatoes, which are pretty darn good being made in bulk like they are, they have everything from chicken dressing, cabbage, pear salad, fried pork chops, potato salad, etc. I piled my plate high several times and scarfed it down - the only thing I didn't like was the devilled eggs - they had something in them which we just didn't like - someone thought it was blue cheese but that's not a typical Southern thing, so I don't know. Anyway, if there was a place like this up North where I live, I'd be in big trouble! And I'd also be as big as a house! Seriously though - yummy, yummy food!!! read more

Do not go here on a Sunday around 1pm! Every church goer in the whole state must have been there. Not very often do I post reviews of restuarants I don't like, but I guess there's a first time for everything. Came here with a local, as a place for some good eats. Before I dive into the drawbacks I have to say this is a clean place, with a great staff and good ol' southern hospitality! This place has everything (good service, cleanliness, and a variety of fresh dishes and sides to choose from). However the one thing it lacks - the most important - was the quality of food. I'm no food critic, but this place just didn't do it for me. It's a buffet, so its likely its just an off day, but I am leaving still a bit hungry and unsatisfied. If you go to this place I hope its better for you! read more
