People are friendly and food comes out quick, as you'd expect from a BBQ-centric spot. It's an Alabama and Georgia chain, so there must be an audience for this style of bbq. For me, the meats just missed the mark. I had the pulled pork, which really just felt dry and unseasoned pork, loosely pulled and dowsed with sauce. The boneless rib tips were interesting, and tasted ok, but I believe ribs or brisket would have been the better choice. Baked beans were solid, Cole slaw lacked any of the sweetness or flavor I was hoping for. It was great having real sweet tea again and the hospitality didn't miss. Ooooo-we! This is a great stop in Montgomery. I was recently in the city for a work trip and stopped in here on night with a group of 25. That's right, 25. We knew when we walked in it was the place to be: great bbq shack-like interior, the smells were smelling, and the staff was playing Prince (I wanna be your lover). Like I said, I knew it was going to be a great meal. They were ready for our group, and assigned us THE server, not A server, named Pumpkin. This lady kept our table in check. She managed to get all of our drinks and food out with zero mistakes. She was knowledgeable about the menu, and didn't flinch if you decided to change anything after the fact. The food came out promptly, everything was hot, and even the salad looked good. I mean, I wouldn't waste time touching a salad in a proper bbq joint, but if you were so inclined to such foolishness, you'd get a nice one here. The winner for me was the fried okra and the sweet tea. The wings looked phenomenal, and I didn't see a single bone with meat on it when our table was done. I was too full for dessert, but folks raved about the chocolate dessert (some said the banana pudding was mid, unfortunately). As you leave you can ring the bell for good service, and almost half of our table rang that bell! Only a little was because of the novelty of it, but easily 98% of the bell-ringing was because of Pumpkin's great service and the kindness of everyone in the place. By the time we left the place was filling with locals, and it was great to be a part of that vibe. Absolutely out this spot on your list and make sure you get a basket or fried okra (with a side of ranch dressing). You won't be disappointed. read more

I wanted to go here because I saw they had their own Wikipedia article and while Dreamland BBQ isn't from Montgomery specifically, it is from Alabama. I was happy to have this cute spot be my first meal on my trip to Montgomery. My BBQ PHD Research Project resumed today in Montgomery, and it was a real treat. My waitress Bridgett was a hoot and took great care of me! Goodness, gracious at this point dreamland barbecue is just showing off ! Talk about the fastest service I've ever had in a barbecue spot . This place strikes the perfect balance between quality food at a reasonable price with customer service that simply goes above and beyond. When I tell you that we were graded and treated like family it is a literal statement . It was the group's first time there, but we were welcomed and seated as if we were regulars. The place feels authentic and not like a random restaurant from super troopers with random things just thrown up on the wall either I would highly advise going with center cut ribs, which for a small price affords you more delicious fall off the bone rib meat. Their barbecue sauce was also so good that I opted for you to go container to enjoy what was left of the meal afterward. I opted for half a rack of ribs and came back later that week to take on the full rack; suffice at the end of that battle the Victor where the taste buds in the wallet. Came in with a group of 7 people while in town for the Selma Bridge Crossing anniversary. This was a short walk from our hotel so we were excited to be able to give a local Black owned restaurant our business while in town for the weekend. It's a typical casual bbq restaurant with a good beer list and a few wine options. It was right before close but we got great service and the waitress was flexible with us as a few of us changed our mind after ordering and she was able to stop our order before the kitchen begin to prepare it. With it being close to closing some of the meet wasn't as flavorful and tender, I assume because it had been slow cooked all day and was the left overs. People in the group loved the ribs. The portion sizes were great and a few had left overs. The okra appetizer was also a hit for the okra eaters in our group. Decor is amazing and everybody is friendly pointing me to the bar for carryout. We get back to the hotel and everything looks good, but y'all forgot my banana pudding. . This restaurant is soooo cool!! They have a huge area like a beer brewery. I'm very new to drinking beer so the bartender recommended the original pale ale and it was sooooo good. I tried the ribs, boneless chicken, baked beans and the potato salad. Everything was on point!! 5 's!!! They also played some very nice R&B music so it was a beautiful vibe. This place is a hidden gem! Staying at a nearby hotel and needed some dinner. The pictures do not do this place justice. We had great service and food. It's decorated with a fun lively nostalgic theme. We had the rib plate and the three meat combo. I love ribs that don't need the sauce. Excellent smoked flavor. The smoked sausage was also good and nicely charred. I'd also recommend the potato salad if you like a little kick and the baked bean were kinda regular to me. I think the serving sizes that you get for the price point is amazing but maybe that's because we've been eating in Atlanta. We did not get to try the banana pudding, but that looked really good and can't wait to go back to sample it. It was a packed Friday night crowd and when we got there, we were seated within five minutes our food came out and maybe 15 minutes. I really wasn't impressed.....The ribs were really tough and hard to pull off the bone....the bark was tough and the meat on the bone was VERY chewy. The chicken was really dry so I think both meats were overlooked and overcooked...(it happens). Luckily they give you a side of sauce...and that helped to get it down. I enjoyed the potato salad and beans better than the meat. The ambience was cool. As far as service, it was ok. A lot of dirty tables and the bar was a wreck, and it was a good lunch crowd when I got there. But I noticed it took a long time for everything to get cleaned up even after it slowed down and everyone left. So for the name, history, and reputation Dreamland BBQ has had, it didn't hold up to my expectations of what it should be. Glad I gave it a shot but it won't happen again. We were road tripping from Atmore back to our native Atlanta and upon visiting one of our relatives, the college nostalgia (I attended the University of Alabama) took over me once seeing this location, so we decided to pop in. - All that to say, the Dreamland in Tuscaloosa felt far more welcoming and far more diverse than the one in Montgomery. We walked in. Weren't greeted. Meandered around for a while before finally settling down and ordering at the bar. - It was busy as we arrived around lunch so the bartender was a bit short with us regarding the take out menu, but the food itself was a little dry and lacked any real taste unless you drown it in the bbq sauce. The only saving grace was the banana pudding which was immaculate. - This is not the Dreamland bbq of my U Of A days but it is a barbecue spot and you don't find too many good of those anymore. read more

So much good bbq in B'ham that I forget about Dreamland sometimes. I was a UA grad that worked restaurants throughout college. We made food trades with Dreamland often. Usually the Northport location. I was desperate at the time to gain weight, so I would eat half a gallon of their banana pudding by myself. They've been around forever because the bbq is great.
