Ribs with fried okra and coleslaw
    Michelle G.

I wanted to go here because I saw they had their own Wikipedia article and while Dreamland BBQ isn't from Montgomery specifically, it is from Alabama. I was happy to have this cute spot be my first meal on my trip to Montgomery. I tried the ribs with a side of cole slaw and fried okra and would say I found the fried okra to be a standout (so delicious, a good reminder to me I want more okra in my life).

The founder - amazing pic and I wish it was available for purchase

My BBQ PHD Research Project resumed today in Montgomery, and it was a real treat. My waitress Bridgett was a hoot and took great care of me! I had the 3 meat plate with ribs, pork and sausage - all were great. And the BBQ sauce was top notch. Fried okra was crunch and amazing; baked beans were decent but nothing special. Also had their Honey Porter and it was fantastic. All of that for under $25? Not only delicious but a great value- not typical in a BBQ joint.

Wouldn't ever eat this again. Ribs n chkn

Ugh. Southern BBQ continues to dissappoint. Arrived shortly after opening July 17, 2025. Sat at the bar. Place smelled good. Ambiance/cleanliness-funky,garage-y bbq joint. Clean enough. Wood floors and bar. 3 stars. Service- bartender lady was a hoot and getting a colonoscopy the next day. She cared about her service and gave me a sample of banana pudding...which was tasty. 4 stars. Food-some of the worst bbq i have ever had. I got ribs and chicken...mac n chz and slaw. Food came out FAST. Ribs was like leftovers from yesterday. Steamed and mushy. Sauce was ok, pretty thin. Chicken was flabby and small. Mac n cheese was aight. Slaw was forgettable. Damn. 2 stars.

Had a nice lunch here. Good food. Good service. The waitstaff were wonderful. Shout out to Brigitte. We both had combo plates. The pulled pork, ribs, sausage, coleslaw, and okra. Everything was fresh. The bbq sauce is very tangy. The tea was good. They have multiple sizes of dessert. So I was able to take both puddings- banana and chocolate to try them out. Those were ok.

Goodness, gracious at this point dreamland barbecue is just showing off ! Talk about the fastest service I've ever had in a barbecue spot . This place strikes the perfect balance between quality food at a reasonable price with customer service that simply goes above and beyond. When I tell you that we were graded and treated like family it is a literal statement . It was the group's first time there, but we were welcomed and seated as if we were regulars. The place feels authentic and not like a random restaurant from super troopers with random things just thrown up on the wall either I would highly advise going with center cut ribs, which for a small price affords you more delicious fall off the bone rib meat. Their barbecue sauce was also so good that I opted for you to go container to enjoy what was left of the meal afterward. I opted for half a rack of ribs and came back later that week to take on the full rack; suffice at the end of that battle the Victor where the taste buds in the wallet. This feels like a great place to go during family time or if you have the authorization to go eat delicious food

Came in with a group of 7 people while in town for the Selma Bridge Crossing anniversary. This was a short walk from our hotel so we were excited to be able to give a local Black owned restaurant our business while in town for the weekend. It's a typical casual bbq restaurant with a good beer list and a few wine options. It was right before close but we got great service and the waitress was flexible with us as a few of us changed our mind after ordering and she was able to stop our order before the kitchen begin to prepare it. With it being close to closing some of the meet wasn't as flavorful and tender, I assume because it had been slow cooked all day and was the left overs. People in the group loved the ribs. The portion sizes were great and a few had left overs. The okra appetizer was also a hit for the okra eaters in our group. Would definitely love to come back earlier in the day when the food is more fresh.

    Not even edible.

My wife and i are down in Bama for the week, so a lot of non home cooked meals is the name of the game! So far, this was the worst 'meal' we've had. Thank goodness it was cheap. The half rack had more cartilage and bones than edible meat. The cobb was pre-made and stored in the fridge. If i hadn't asked for extra bread I'd still be starving! The BBQ sauce definitely does not leave you wanting more. SKIP IT!

Yelp! After a hectic day, Bae decided he needed some Dreamland. Well the Biscuits are playing and there is zero parking for dining in. So of course, I run in to pick it up. Decor is amazing and everybody is friendly pointing me to the bar for carryout. We get back to the hotel and everything looks good, but y'all forgot my banana pudding. . Then, you gave me baked beans, I don't get baked beans here. It's good I got this sausage sandwich, it made up for all your little mishaps to me. Bae, not so much. He got rib tips. They were tough and undercooked with minimal sauce. He threw them away. Y'all already know, wait until you get back to what you know on the familiar restaurants. Always try something new when you are out of town.

Potato salad was THE BEST!! Sooo creamy

This restaurant is soooo cool!! They have a huge area like a beer brewery. I'm very new to drinking beer so the bartender recommended the original pale ale and it was sooooo good. I tried the ribs, boneless chicken, baked beans and the potato salad. Everything was on point!! 5 's!!! They also played some very nice R&B music so it was a beautiful vibe. The bartender was a young lady and she was extremely friendly and helpful. I will definitely be back before I go back overseas. This is a great hangout spot.

Eat your dessert first. Get a cup of that banana pudding. It'll change your life. Or you can order the three meats two sides with the sweet tea and get the meat sleeps into a quarter into your meal. Came here after our first choice was closed for the evening. But man am I glad we made the drive. Really cozy atmosphere being operated by some of the nicest staff around. Everybody's always moving. The music was top tier and I think the way the waitresses engaged with you it felt like you went to their house. If the food portions are massive, and just because it was massive, doesn't mean they were lacking taste, essence or a flavor. This barbecue sauce should be poured on anything and everything. Get the jar to go. You won't regret it. Bunch of TVs sprinkled around for SEC football Saturdays and NFL Sundays when that happens or whatever other sport tickles your fancy.

This place is a hidden gem! Staying at a nearby hotel and needed some dinner. The pictures do not do this place justice. We had great service and food. It's decorated with a fun lively nostalgic theme. We had the rib plate and the three meat combo. I love ribs that don't need the sauce. Excellent smoked flavor. The smoked sausage was also good and nicely charred. I'd also recommend the potato salad if you like a little kick and the baked bean were kinda regular to me. I think the serving sizes that you get for the price point is amazing but maybe that's because we've been eating in Atlanta. We did not get to try the banana pudding, but that looked really good and can't wait to go back to sample it. It was a packed Friday night crowd and when we got there, we were seated within five minutes our food came out and maybe 15 minutes. As we were leaving, there was a large party (12), and I can see how the wait times could grow considerably depending on the time you show up.

By the time you get up there to pay and get your drink cup, the food is already coming up. I ordered the pull pork plate with 2 sides and a drink for $11! Can't beat that price. The fries came out hot, the pork was juicy, and the greens flavorful. Doesn't come with sauce on it but there's plenty of options on the dressing table to pick from. The only downside is the parking situation... it's insanity, with folks here in work trucks, cars, motorcycles, you name it. First, let me say, I've tried a variety of foods from Joe's and everything I've had is good. My favorite by far though has got to be the bbq rib dinner. It's filling even for the hungriest appetite. It's hot, smoky, juicy and tender and you get four that have plenty of meat on them. The dinner comes with two sides. We usually get the potato salad and baked beans to go with our meal but there are a lot of options to choose from. I've also had the grouper and fries and the grouper is also good though it's a smaller meal than the ribs. I got three finger length pieces that were crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. I had fries and a slice of grilled French bread with mine. If you want something sweet after your meal they have several desserts to choose from and they are homemade. My favorite is the key lime cake. The four layer cake is a generous portion with just the right ratio of cake to icing and so moist it just melts in your mouth! I like it so much I can't bring myself to try anything else. If you're having trouble deciding what you want for dinner, try this little place on Fairview Avenue which offers plenty of variety from sandwiches and salads to bbq ribs and fish and everything in between. Now, I don't know what has happened since then, but something did. To begin with, the place always looked "used". It had been there a long time and that's expected but this time the chairs looked badly worn and the carpet was in need of help. But it looked clean over all. The workers were friendly but very busy. They had a teenage boy who seated us who was in need of some grooming. But he was polite, so we let it slide. The waitress was very casual and nice as well. But it looked like this one poor lady was handling the entire side of the place by herself. I can overlook all of the above if the food is good but... To begin with, I ordered the same meal I ate in 2021 and yes, I remembered it! As a turkey lover, I recalled it as a Thanksgiving kind of meal that I enjoyed which was why I ordered it again. It was billed on the menu as: Sliced turkey, stuffing, three sides and cranberry sauce. I could eat Thanksgiving 365! And that first time was like reliving Thanksgiving at Moms. Not this time. Aside from being out of broccoli (which limited the green sides down to green beans and/or collard greens- which I do not like) there was an issue with things not being as presented in the menu. The "stuffing" or "dressing" was a small heap of mushy something. It was thin, watery and bland. Horrible! The "sliced turkey" was fractured white meat of turkey, fractured so much that it seemed to meld into the mushy dressing. The two were undiscernable. And it, too, was bland. There was something they called turkey gravy but it was definitely a canned or otherwise prepackaged gravy: bright yellow in color and gloppy in texture. The mashed potatoes were fine, a little salty but fine, though I am not sure if they were homemade or from mix or what. The "green beans" were not what I had before. Before I had what, at worst, had been frozen green beans, though well-seasoned and cooked through. This time I was given Italian beans from a can that had no flavor to them. And then there was the mac n cheese. The test of a good Mom and Pop place is the M&C and this batch failed. Over cooked elbow macaroni in a non-saucy glob of light orange gunk that tasted like flour and not cheesy at all. If that sounds bad, worse was the pie. They used to serve cake and some damn good cake, too! But we were told today they serve pies. I ordered the lemon meringue. I make lemon meringue pie so I know fully well what one should taste and look like and this was NOT it! The fill looked like leftover banana pudding with the bananas extracted. It wasn't set and the meringue slid off of it. The meringue itself had a wateriness that I couldn't quite figure out but it was lightly toasted on top. The corn muffins were good, though they could have gone without being dunked in butter. Over all, I cannot give this place the report I would have liked to have given a landmark in Montgomery. Its sad, too.

Had I come on the day when the fried green tomatoes or fried okra were the option, I definitely would have swapped out the broccoli casserole. Our server seemed a bit tired or put out, I couldn't tell which thus the 4 stars. I did go later afternoon following the lunch rush so that could have been the issue.
