Geez. What the hell is wrong with me? We went AGAIN and ordered the pizza. This is probably the fifth time I've had pizza there, and dude: It's the WORST pizza I've ever had. Frozen pizza is better, which is saying something because I hate frozen pizza. I'm not one to complain. I always tell a server the food is good, even if it's not. But when the bartender asked me for the third time how my pizza was, I couldn't help myself. I told him it was the worst I've ever had (with a smile). He ignored me the rest of the night. :) We watched 4 other customers, all around us, order pizza after they heard us tell the guy it wasn't good -- that I'd tried to like it for YEARS. I donno, man. At this point, it's not because "they're new" or "they're figuring it out" or "maybe we caught them on a bad night". It's undeniable: the pizza at Fricano's is horrible and apparently they don't even know it. Now, the atmosphere? Still great. Waitstaff...adequate. But seriously..is it just me??? (I know it's not. Famous for their pizza and I like the view too. Watching some boats passed by while you are eating is pretty relaxing. Pizza is thin, crust is crispy with plenty of tomatoes sauce and toppings. I am want to try to walleye plate too, maybe next time. read more

For everyone else, you've been warned...A frozen pizza from Meijer is by far way better. We've given them a 2nd and 3rd chance, saying they were new and figuring it out. Nope. Still sucks. Nice full bar selection with some suggested mixed drinks - cosmo, dirty martini. Started with Brussel sprouts and there were delicious! A little oily because it appears they deep fry and finish in the oven. Could have used more balsamic but they were good. Husband ordered spicy chicken sandwich and I opted for the shrimp dinner. I wasn't expecting all the seafood options to be deep fried. Shrimp were small but fine. Fries were undercooked and covered in a dusting of something sweet? We couldn't figure it out - not bad, different. Spicy Chicken sandwich was just okay. The toasted ravioli is AMAZING!! I wish they had it on the menu at TEDs in Spring Lake. I loved the pizza. It was so good. Love the view from the dining room while enjoying the great food. We foolishly made a reservation for 4 at 6 pm on July 19 to celebrate a birthday. After one hour the waitress came out to apologize stating they only had two cooks in the kitchen . At 1 hour and twenty minutes my husband went inside to see the manager who never came out to discuss situation . We paid for our drinks and left. Good help is had to find however it starts at the top and no communication to patrons is spineless and poor customer service. Since we made reservations they knew we were celebrating... could have suggested one comped meal or free desserts for everyone... could have just said I'm sorry... don't waste your time! Even after reading so many negative reviews we thought of giving it a try but here we are, adding one more to the list. I'll start with seating, it took forever and we then decided to sit on bar for a better service which kinda worked, we didn't had to wait long for food but oh man! The food was the worst specially the pizza, we are vegans so we asked no cheese on pizza but we got one with no sauce whatsoever, it was like plain crust and some veggies on top...they need to add some good vegan options, you can't be thinking of only meat eaters or vegetarians....there are a lot of vegans in the world please expand your horizon. Cecilia proved all the bad reviews we saw wrong. We got our drinks very quickly, closely followed by our toasted ravioli's. The plate was full and piping hot. Just as we were finishing them our walleye dinner came which we split. We were finished in less than 45 minutes start to finish. I would give it zero stars if I could. Terrible service and the food was awful. Not sure how you can mess up a salad but the chicken salad was not good at all. It was supposed to be a pulled chicken salad and they basically cut up chicken breast and called it pulled chicken. We spent almost two hours for a bad meal. Would not recommend. read more

I'm new to the area a neighboring town, I decided to stop in at this quaint little place after reading a few Yelp reviews. To my amazement I was greeted by an absolutely lovely young lady hostess, her name is Anna everyone in the restaurant business should have an Anna she was to say the least one of the most welcoming hostesses I've ever encountered!! I was very early to arrive at the restaurant and a bit hesitant, they had just opened so the restaurant was not full at all. However, I decided to stay, sit at the bar and have a cocktail simply because Anna was so enthusiastic and so excited to tell me all about this new restaurant. I didn't realize her boss the owner Ted was sitting nearby he was listening to our conversation and walked over to introduce himself an absolute gentleman. He also agreed with me about Anna he was delighted to also witness in her enthusiasm. Happy is contagious! So I ordered an appetizer jalapeños fritters simply delicious and the thin crust pizza is a winner!! I can't wait to go back! The fries as an appetizer was a lot to handle, but worth it, so just couldn't finish the pizza so taking extra pizza home. Fun drink menu that they change up depending on the season. It's one thing when the food isn't good, but when the service isn't good either....then it's a real problem! It was not busy by any means, yet it took our server 15 minutes (no exaggeration) to deliver our drinks (a beer, wine, and water). When trying to place our food order, they were out of multiple appetizers that we wanted. They only have FIVE pizza toppings.......it's a pizza place........! We ordered 2 pizzas and they were both awful. Awful after taste, super greasy, super thin, super YUCK! We told our server that we weren't fans and she replied, "umm yeah some people really don't like our pizzas and others do, just depends on who it is!" LOL. So they are well aware their pizza sucks. The manager ended up comping us one of the pizzas, which was nice. However, our server lacked basic interpersonal skills. She wasn't knowledgeable with the menu, took FOREVER, and just didn't seem sincere. The food and service might suck, but the location is great and the newly renovated building is gorgeous. This was our first time at Fricano's. We came thinking we would like to have some pizza and set along the Manistee river, but it turns out we didn't have pizza at all and we sure did enjoy sitting outside along the river. I had the derby salad and my husband had the walleye sandwich. We split an order of fried. portobello mushroom fritters. The fritters were fantastic as were both of our meals. We also had to two nice, strong cocktails. The big downside of this meal for me was that they do not have onions in this restaurant at all. I really love onions on my salad, but there are no onions to be had in all of the restaurant. I don't know how this is possible. It's a serious downside to this place in my opinion. read more

I've been wanting to try this restaurant for sometime and took advantage of this beautiful day to sit out on the deck. Jason, our server, was very attentive. i ordered the walleye fillets-twic, because the first dinner came out with fillets that were nearly black! I was asked by the waitress if I would like to try eating the fillets and I said, " No, because it is burned." I asked the waitress to take it back and have them try again, and try to watch the cook time on the fryer. She said that they "have some trouble cooking the walleye fillets." in the meantime I ordered the Derby salad, which was good except for the dry 2oz. add-on chicken, which was a $4.00 additional charge. The second attempt at the walleye dinner was equally disappointing with burned coating again. we all tried the fish- and it tasted less than appetizing, with many, many bones in 2 small bites. The fillets were tasteless, greasy outside, dry inside, in addition to being burned on the outside. BE AWARE-there is no way you should attempt to try the walleye dinner. I thought I would give this newer restaurant a chance. Conclusion: go to Lake Erie for Walleye! We did not pay for the walleye dinner because I told the shift manager that it was inedible. She admitted that they were having problems with the FROZEN WALLEYE FILLETS. NOT FRESH. The waitress that served our table was pleasant and efficient. We came to Manistee area on vacation and looked for a place to eat with gluten free options. After looking at the online menu we decided to dine in. We were greeted right away and seated. Our waitress Jenny was outstanding. She explained the menus to us and the GF options. We ordered the cheese fries and they were delicious.
