The new dough is thin, dry and brittle (and appears to be mass produced), there's less toppings and cheese (it doesn't even taste like the same cheese, pretty sure they used to use swiss cheese), the pizza sauce is bland and there's hardly any of it, and overall it just does not taste the same compared to before the new ownership change. Of particular note is the ham and pineapple -- previously, those slices were loaded with crumbled ham, tons of gooey cheese and herbs; now it's a couple round ham slices with a few dabs of pineapple and not much cheese. Very dissapointing and unfortunately will no longer be frequenting this former Vancouver institution due to what appears to be cost cutting and changing recipes. Changing what worked for over 25 years is a surefire way to lose loyal customers -- including those like me. Sadly all good things must come to an end, so for me it's goodbye Pizza 2001.

I talk to the owner and found out that they are normally closed on Sundays but open because they had a large catering order so decided to keep the store open that day for a few hours. Turns out the owner has run the restaurant since 1983, and pointed to a few pictures of him back in the day that were hanging on the wall. Overall, excellent Pizza and value for money as the slices were large, hot and about $4/slice.
