And this place did not change my mind about bowls but I will share my review: I ordered the build your own bowl with: Jasmine Rice, Sesame Shoyu Sauce, Spicy Faroe Island Salmon, Krab Salad, Fried Onions, Sweet Potato, Green Onion, and Shrimp. I want to say everything was of the freshest quality, with the exception of the "krab" ... it wasn't bad but it was very dry. We discovered that we could use our Indepent Health Extras card at this place, so we stopped by to try a few of their dishes. We ordered the Flaming Tuna bowl, steak teriyaki bowl, and a Connecticut style lobster roll. Well, heres the good and the bad. It was excellent and very filling with a large portion of fresh, spicy tuna. The steak bowl was pretty good. I enjoyed the flavors, but the steak was a bit tough. I will try the chicken version next time. The lobster roll. Ugh. It was not good at all. The roll was overcooked, dried out, and almost burnt. The lobster itself was tough, with little flavor and dry. The sauce that came with it was more vinegar tasting than butter, and it didn't help the dish at all. I was so looking forward to the lobster, but it was inedible. I tried to at least eat the lobster out of the roll, but it wasn't worth the calories. When planning our home alone New Years Eve dinner this year we decided it would include seafood. So when we heard that Fresh Catch had opened their new Seafood Market in their restaurant we knew we had to check it out! We had decided on lobster tail and ordered ahead to pick up two 8 oz. tails. Well after getting there we also got a large Alaskan King Crab tail. How could I resist! Both were reasonably price and tasted delicious. All the other seafood looked so nice and fresh. Will need to check that out on another visit. Naturally since we were there we walked over to check out the bowls. We got the Flying Salmon Bowl and the FlamingTuna Bowl. Both were good but I preferred the tuna. It had a nice spicy kick that added enough flavor without being overpowering. Wow, never have I ever tasted so many different flavors and textures in my mouth hole. I recently ate a shrimp bowl. To start off, these were no baby shrimp. Some of them had enough meat to be fooled for crab meat. It even tasted like fine crab too. And I have no idea what the veggies were in the bowl but my mouth could barely handle it. A bar full of fresh ingredients let's you choose how you want to build your poke, or you can select of of a half dozen or so house combinations. The possible ingredients were about average, with the tobiko being perhaps the most novel available. Most of the other ingredients were standard. It's fairly limited how many ingredients you can add as well. Only one or two of each option (protein, toppings, etc) and additional additions cost extra. Our bowl was nearly $17 after adding a small bottled water to the order. The result is a fresh, healthy poke bowl that still tastes good. My boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his Maine lobster roll which was expected since he had come back for his second one in less than a week! They did not have "regular" drinks. Everything that I saw was bottled or canned and not Pepsi or Coke products... Which I don't care for anyway, so that was fine by me. Would I get the lobster roll again? I originally went just for the chicken teriyaki bowl, which was good and it satisfied my craving. I also got the Maine lobster roll and the traditional açaí bowl. Comparing to an açaí bowl I got at the Squeeze Juicery down the street, this one is smaller, the smoothie portion wasn't as flavorful, you get less toppings, and the price was $2 more. The Maine lobster roll was disappointing. Having lived in Maine for 4 years, this is not like any Maine lobster roll I've ever had. Maine lobster rolls are simple with cold lightly dressed big chucks of lobster and a squeeze of lemon on a buttery toasted roll. The only thing that reminded me of a typical Maine lobster roll was the price ($29.25 market price). I felt robbed paying for this lobster roll that was over-seasoned with maybe Old Bay Seasoning, the lobster chunks were so tiny, the bread was slightly stale and not toasted in butter, and the chips offered the same Old Bay flavor which wasn't pleasant to bring the whole meal together. read more

Not to be confused with French Crotch Poke, which is a move I learned when I was down in Marseille, and which is probably tastier - and much cheaper - than anything sold here. I expected a sour response to my review below, and I really, really hate writing bad reviews partly for this reason. They were so nice about it that I gave them an extra star. Bravo for the classy response. Anyway let's get on with it. I really don't like writing bad reviews and I would like to start off by saying something positive - but the only positive thing I can say about this place is that it has nice decor, and I really appreciated that - and that it is locally owned which of course I also support. That is where my affinity with this place stops. I have now tried at least 40 different poke places around the country including some of the highest rated ones and a few lesser-known ones. This is easily the least impressive I've tried on almost every level. First of all I didn't think they really knew how to prepare the fish and secondly that portions of fish were miniature. Prices were significantly higher than some of the best poke places in the country and Buffalo is not exactly a high-income area full of trendy hipsters willing to drop $15 for a tiny bowl of mostly salad. You can tell a good poke place because the fish will taste really good by itself. Here it does not. Bland AF. And the quality of the rice is important. This was some of the worst-made rice I've had. Inedible. If the prices were half-decent or if all of the reviews were terrible and I took pity on them or if service was really nice then I could bump them up to three stars like I would for most locally-owned places just to be neutral about it. But considering all the insane 5-star hype from people who either don't understand poke or haven't tried real poke places period - and considering how absolutely standoffish both of my servers were and the tiny tiny portions they gave me for these extremely high prices 0 then honestly the place is lucky that I'm giving two stars rather than one, simply because it's not a chain. I won't eat here again and certainly won't go for any poke or sushi recommendations from anybody that gave this place five stars. Having said that if you love it then keep on loving it - that's your prerogative... and despite how I feel about this place I wish them nothing but success.
