Tried them out at a local truck event. I'm usually not a fan of these modern mainland poke concepts. I just respect and value the Hawaiian versions, where they make different types and just scoop it for you deli style, versus a "build-your-own" bowl style. But for what it was, it wasn't bad by any means, suffice for an easy meal. Fried Lumpia ($6/3.5*) Perfectly fried and crisp. Standard pork filling with a good dose of carrot. I prefer it to be "meatier" but that's me. The sweet chile sauce was better than most, not super thick and not super sweet. And for $6, you just can't beat this price. Shoyu Poke Bowl ($14/3.5*) I wanted something spicy, but their spicy version is mayo based. And I usually don't like the creamy pokes. So I settled on this. The tuna was legit. Very nice chunks and fresh. Tender yet meaty, with no sinew-y pieces, so that's to be commended. But the shoyu-sesame sauce does very little to the actual tuna. I actually wanted some salt or soy sauce to amp up the meat. So it was very plain to me. But they stuff other fillers on top of your base of choice. The imitation crab salad was decent. Usually not a huge fan, but this doubles the protein presence in the bowl, so I took it. And since the tuna was so plain, this added some flavor to the bites. Seaweed salad also plays a big role in this bowl. Plenty of it, which adds a nice crunch and vegetative element to the bites. This also had more flavor than the tuna, so this helped saved the bowl as well. They also have fried items like fish n chips or butterflied shrimp. I'd probably try those next. But for now, 3.5* but rounding up for the cheerful order window and the fast receiving of product. Less than 5 minutes, that's good turn around time. read more

Next time I may try the poke. I was disappointed at the lack of poke options tho. Maybe take off some of the fried options and add more fresh poke??? I recently tried Fresh Catch Poke at Nikkei Matsuri in downtown San Jose. Their shoyu ahi tuna is OK, and their prices are what you'd expect from a food truck. They are generous with the portions, but overall, it was just an OK meal. Service took a while because there seemed to be only two people working. The event was from 10am to 5pm, but when I ordered a little before 2pm, I was told that they had run out of both rice and chopsticks. I was fine having just greens as my poke bowl base, but the lack of chopsticks was more frustrating, as this meant I had to line up in another long food line to order something else that would give me chopsticks. The photo might not give a good concept of relative size, but it was a really nice and big portion that fed me well for two meals. Everything was absolutely on point. Considering I got both bases and both sauce flavors, I guess I got a pretty solid sample of what they have, and I approved of it all. One thing that I really want to highlight was the seaweed salad. I do enjoy a seaweed salad, but I especially enjoyed the one that was provided to me here.
