Overall a good spot for quick birria. We got the quesabirria and the portions were big, with multiple tacos per order. The taco shell had a great crunch and the birria meat had really good flavor. It also came with extra consommé on the side for dipping, which made it even better. I haven't had a ton of quesabirria, but my first thought after the first bite was basically, "wow, this is the best quesabirria I've had!!" A couple small downsides: the free chips were a bit stale, and they were out of rice on a Sunday around noon. There's plenty of outdoor seating in the gas station parking lot, and the outdoor dining area was fairly clean with some umbrellas for shade. For dine-in, they served the food on a plate, which was a nice touch for a food truck. read more

Tacos Buenrostro - QUESABIRRIA (3)PCS - Food Trucks Near Me - San Jose, California

Food Rating: 6/10 Price: 7/10 Ambiance/Service: 6/10 Overall Rating: 6.3 Came to the stand at around 7 on Saturday, and initially we wanted al pastor tacos, but the owner said they only had enough meat for 2. So we decided to get all asada tacos instead. We were picking up a single taco for a friend to try who doesn't like onions, so we asked for 8 tacos with everything (cilantro + onions) and 1 taco with no onions. When we got home and opened the plate, we had 8 tacos total (I checked, and we were only charged for 8), 4 of them were meat only, and the other 4 had only onions. The truck itself was on a nice corner and had a clean setup. There was a small seating area in the back with tables and chairs. The person working the truck was also really nice and friendly, but unfortunately, I don't think you can get an order this wrong. The prices were also hard to find. Tacos - $4.25 Rating: (6/10) Without cilantro, I feel like this taco is already below average. $4.25 per taco is also a bit high for a stand like this, though they do give a large amount of meat. The meat had pretty good flavor and was cooked for just the right amount of time. The green salsa was also really good. The taco shells were way too oily, and, maybe just as a personal preference, I don't enjoy lemons with my tacos ... limes are a must. read more

One of the places that was open on New Years Day! This food truck is located on the corner in a gas station area. We came and got the pizza birria as it was a better deal than getting two of the quesabirriasss taco plates. The pizza comes with all the toppings and three cups of consome which was great! I recommend that you get this and eat it right away as if you wait longer it will get soggy. Altogether a solid place for birria! read more

Came here on a Wednesday night at around 6pm and we were greatly pleasantly by the taco truck person. The truck is parked opposite to two main roads near a gas station. We ordered the chorizo taco and super quesadilla. Both were delicious. The quesadilla was served with rice and beans which was a pleasant surprise. The food was cooked fresh and took about 10 mins to arrive. The seating area is quite nice for a taco tuck. They had fairy light. Overall great place near the Berryessa Bart station. read more

Wanted to like this spot as it's near by. But it was just ok. Birria needed the consomé to dip the taco with every bite. Carne asada just lacked seasoning. Also their sauce needs a lot more spice. It is a food truck and service was quick. Location is at a gas station. Though they have seats there it was just dirty so we ended up eating in the car. read more

My go to taco truck. We love the quesabirria from here. It's always busy so prepare to wait. But always fresh and tasty. We also like their burritos. They give great service, nice and understanding when we have a long order. They have tables to eat at and it's covered from the elements. They have condiments and self serve chips. I love that they are next to Olivera Egg ranch to be able to park easily and grab some eggs or drinks. read more

The crispy tacos are so, so, so, so, so good. We went on a hike nearby and our brakes started to overheat so we pulled over and we just happened to be right next to Tacos Buenrostro. We had other plans for dinner tonight but decided to get one taco each while our brakes cooled down. These tacos were hands down the best hard tacos I've ever had in my life. Flakey, crispy, delicious and perfectly seasoned. The asada, lengua, and cabeza were absolutely divine. The shrimp and cheese was okay for me. After we finished the tacos, we went back to our car but couldn't help ourselves and turned right back around to order more. We had to kiss our other dinner plans goodbye. The tacos were that good. We ended up getting the enchiladas verde, quesabirria, and churros. The churros were my favorite of the three and were piping hot and fresh. The quesabirria was moderately good and the enchiladas were okay. Service was a bit slow. They have tables and chair set up outside of the taco truck with napkins and condiments. I'd highly recommend this spot. read more

Consistent Quesabirria Cravings Satisfied Time and Again My family has been a regular at this joint for the past few years. The quesabirria taco order comes so reliably that I've lost count of how many times I've gone. Whether it's a hurried solo lunch or a chill catch-up with friends, that sandwich‑in‑a‑taco consistently hits the sweet spot. What I Love The Quesabirria -- Ooey-gooey cheese and succulent, shredded beef filling (they do not skimp on the beef) encased in a perfectly crisped corn tortilla. Every bite is a harmonious blend of textures and rich, savory flavor. The Consomé -- Dark, deeply beefy, and just the right hint of spice--it isn't greasy, but packs plenty of savory punch. Dip, savor, repeat. Tacos Buenrostro delivers in all the essential ways for a top-tier taco shop: consistency, standout flavors, genuine charm--and yes, a quesabirria that never, ever disappoints. read more

Delish! Thank you! We had a crunchy taco that was great! The cheesy Birria sandwich, which was Delicious. And a Super Chicken Burrito with everything that was probably one of the best I've had Thanks for dinner! We'll be back! read more

Came here with high expectations but was disappointed. Ordered a burrito and barely any meat. Opened my burrito to inspect and mostly rice and beans. Nothing stood out. Nothing wowed me in flavor. Very basic taste. Less than mid. Had better food at other tacos trucks in the area. read more

I just moved across the street and I saw this truck and went. I'm so glad I did. The guy was super nice and the food came out fast and fresh. Omg the food was sooo good. If you're craving quesabirria tacos done right, Tacos Buenrostro delivers. Their quesabirria is a solid 5/5--packed with flavorful, juicy meat and perfectly crisped with melted cheese. Generous portions and bold taste make it one of my favorite spots for this dish. However, the rest of the menu doesn't quite measure up. I've tried several of their burritos on different occasions, and each time they were underwhelming--mostly filled with rice and beans, with very little meat. It felt more like filler than a satisfying meal. So while I highly recommend the quesabirria tacos, I'd skip the burritos unless they improve the balance. Still, worth a visit if you're chasing that cheesy, meaty goodness. read more

The location is chill with a lot of plentiful parking, and the workers were kind and helpful. There was a large number of options to choose from and the food was very affordable if you're craving Mexican food on a budget. I ordered three tacos with lengua. It was my first time trying lengua actually so I don't know if I have proper credibility for rating my lengua. I think it could have been more flavorful and I also think they could have gave a larger portion of it in my tacos. I was still full after though because of the thickness of the tortilla wrap. There was a bit of a wait because this was a popular truck. We didn't mind the wait but did have to wait 30 minutes for all our food to be ready, so keep that in mind if you're in a hurry. Maybe they were rushing too much with the food because they did not cap the sauce in my friends takeout box and so the sauce spilled all over his tacos and bag. Also my other friend would have liked more meat with his tacos. This is a convenient and inexpensive spot if you want a chill time with your friends. read more

Hi guys, the reviews on this taco truck are a bit deceiving. I ordered the steak fries with no nacho cheese sauce. That's personal preference. The plate itself was heavy so there were ample portions. But the quantity of meat left me disappointed. There were more beans and lettuce than meat and the fries were soggy. It's of no fault of the service, I liked guy working there and they had a nice set up for people to enjoy their food. Overall 2/5 stars. read more

Stopped in one early evening as I spotted this on my commute home. I often will pick something up if I'm really hungry as there is nothing worse than sitting in traffic hAngry. I think more people should exercise this in their routine and there simply would be much less road rage then there currently is. Lol Nice looking truck with a cool paint job, and a few patio tables and chairs under a canopy, which was nice, as I was able to eat half my sandwich there, while taking the rest home. First visit, service was great. There was a guy there to answer questions and to dish out efficient service. Second time there, seemed more questionable like nobody seemed there, as I stood in line for about 4 minutes with zero presence. I left that day, so I only got 1 try here. Birria Torta ($13ish/3.5*) Nice sized sandwich. Decent bread that's actually toasted, which is a must for this dish as the birria is very wet/moist. Their birria is decent, basically Mexican pot roast but the meat gets kinda shredded. Decent flavor, just didn't get a whole lot of the dried red chili flavor that should shine in this preparation. I put the garnishing pickled jalapeno and onions inside and it helped it a lot. A cup of the juice (consomme) is added and I used it to dip the second half of the sandwich at home. I think I'm more used to Mexican Tortas having more fillings in there like a smear of refried beans, cheese, lettuce etc. I think this would have benefited from such a style as it would have added multiple dimensions, versus just meat and bread. Since I didn't get to try any tacos on my second visit, this review will have to stand on the solo sandwich experience. It was alright but I definitely didn't say to myself, 'you need to come back for this!'. Plop, plop, plop 3 decent stars in the bucket. read more

It was ok. Food seemed expensive and it was weird there aren't clear prices posted for the most popular items. I will say there was a LOT of meat, so relative to value it's good. Overall I just found it a bit underwhelming. It was surprisingly bland. We got the quesabirria and a birria ramen. The quesabirria had a ton of meat... like an impressive amount! I wish there was more cheese though and would have like the tortillas cooked to be crispy (or at least crispier). They were way too floppy for my taste. I'd try it again if I was in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way again to go back. read more

I always drive past this food truck, and finally I decided to try their tacos. It was 8 pm and I ordered one carne asada and one al pastor taco. It only took about 5 minutes. When I got home, I was surprised to see how full of meat each taco had, how hard i was fold into a taco shape, and how careful you have to be not to spill all the filling all over the place. It was so full of meat that I couldn't even see the tortilla. I loved how finely chopped everything was and also that they had a lot of onions and cilantro. Plus, everything was so fresh, including the slices of radish and cucumber, even though I was probably their last customer. Their orange sauce was pretty good, but I ended up using a spicier habanero sauce at home. Usually, at other taco trucks, you'd need at least 3 tacos to get full. I was pretty satisfied with two of theirs, although I wanted a third and fourth taco. There was even some extra meat that fell onto the plate that I ate afterward. Next time I feel like getting tacos, I'll definitely come here again. read more

Came to get food with my friend, and when I paid for my order, it charged my card, but on their end, it said "processing, please wait." We waited for more than five minutes until I asked if he could cancel it and try again. He replaced the order, and I was charged twice! The money was clearly taken out of my account, and I kept showing him, but he didn't understand. After almost 20 minutes, he said he would just make the food and hope the machine would finally load. I received only one order, even though I was charged for two. Then, my friend ordered her food, and the same thing happened to her -- her card was charged, but the worker said it hadn't processed on their end. We waited another 15 minutes before he finally called his manager. They had to restart the system and try to figure out what was going on. In the end, they didn't give us the rest of our food and claimed we weren't actually charged (even though we showed them our bank statements proving otherwise). We ended up leaving our information and told them we'd come back in two days if the transaction didn't clear. Terrible experience! read more

Friendly and fast service. Quesabirria + consommé is good. I would come back for these! But this recent trip, the food we tried was really bland. The carne asada fries looked good visually and it's a good portion. But the fries need salt or something and the beans in it weren't flavorful. We had a full afternoon of cleaning and moving so naturally -- we worked up an appetite. I suggested tacos for dinner and as we were driving toward a taqueria the boyfriend has been to previously, we noticed a bright orange taco truck in the same lot of the Shell gas station located at the corner of Piedmont and Sierra. We love supporting local small businesses, so drove in to park -- make sure to park on the side and not near the gas pumps. Our order consisted of three carne asada tacos, one carne asada burrito, french fries, and a coke to share. The tacos were really good and I appreciated the tortillas being extra crispy around the edges -- in my opinion, it helps hold all the toppings together much better. The burrito was huge and came with all the works including rice, beans, pico de gallo, lettuce and their signature red sauce. The fries came out hot and crispy, and were a great price for such a large portion. They have a free chips and salsa station, but only chips are there for grabs. You'll have to ask for the salsa from the window -- they probably do that for cost control, or they care and don't want the salsa to spoil while it's sitting out all day. Anyway, the menu is pretty cool because aside from tacos, burritos, and birria -- they also offer nachos, hot dogs, burgers of all kinds, breakfast plates, seafood plates, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, BLTs, quesadillas, among other items. These guys accept cash and card so stop by when you're in the area. Support local small businesses y'all! read more

Okay, folks. If you haven't already tried this food truck, please do yourself a favor and try this food truck. Located in the Shell gas station lot, parking for this place is a bit of a mad house, so I advise on street parking if you don't want to deal with the stress of maneuvering around all the cars in the lot parked for food and pulled up for gas. I ordered Al pastor everything because I love al pastor and they did not disappoint. The Al pastor hard-shell taco was topped with delicious flavors from the salsa and cojita cheese,.a nice fresh slice of tomato, and some fresh shredded iceberg lettuce. The mix of textures was great, the flavor was great, and the taco was still nice and crunchy despite having ordered it to go and eating it when I got home. Next up was the super quesadilla. I had originally intended to order the super quesabirria but the guy taking my order must not have heard it right, so I ended up with a quesadilla, but that's totally fine because it ended up being one of the best quesadillas of my life. Again, great texture (surprisingly for a quesadilla). The tortilla wasn't thick which was great and it had a nice crisp when I bit into it. The flavor could not be beat. It was sooo good. It came with a side of rice and beans (beans must have been so hot they melted the styrofoam container!) The salsas were even some of the best I've had - go figure. The chips were put out alongside sandwich bags so you could pack your own - they were fine - nothing to write home about. The orange sauce - not sure what it's comprised of, but also not amazing. Classic salsa, though - that was nice flavor with a little tang and zest and I am all for it. Pricing is more expensive than an old-school taco truck; it's more in line with a standard food truck. All in all, it was a deliciously satisfying first experience and I can't wait for my next visit! Can't wait to go back. read more

This food tuck made all my stress from work disappeared last Thursday. They are located on the corner of Sierra Rd. and Piedmont Rd. They accept cards (but bring cash to tip), they have a few tables under a canopy if you can't wait to get to your destination to indulge. I loved their menu offerings - such a variety. The prices aren't steep for me.. if you take into account the supply chain shortage, the increased in costs for everything plus operating costs.. it goes w/o saying that we are paying more for everything. I ordered the following: - birria burrito w/o salsa and pico de gallo (it came w/ lettuce for some reason) - birria quesadilla (comes w/ refried beans and rice) - Philly cheesesteak (comes w/ fries) The service was great! Gavin and I tried the food after we were called to pickup our order. It was unfortunate that it was so windy that I couldn't enjoy the meal, but once I tasted the consume, my eyes lit up. I've never tasted consume from anywhere like Tacos Buenrostro - had like a mild tart flavor to it.. maybe lime juice or lemon juice? I know I put vinegar in my sauce when I blend it to make the sauce for my birria. Regardless, the consume tasted homemade, comforting, and so delicious. I enjoyed everything; the birria was so tender. The Philly cheesesteak was flavorful... I also loved the fries... I almost went yesterday but knew I should wait since I had steak and a baked potato waiting for me at home. I will probably go again this Thursday because I will turn 40 and YOLO. read more

Tacos Buenrostro is a food truck located in the Shell gas station @ the corner of Sierra & Piedmont. I drive by this truck multiple times daily and have been meaning to give their food a try. Since dinner crept up on me a lot quicker than I anticipated and needed something super ASAP, I made the executive decision to hit up TB since it isn't located too far from home. While there are tables and chairs for you to enjoy your meal on site, we opted to grab take out. There were a few parties ahead of me but the lines moved quickly. I placed my order for a carne asada plate which comes with refried beans, rice, pico de gallo, carne, & corn tortillas. Food: While the carne asada didn't look like the typical thin sheets of beef, TB's chopped carne asada was flavorful, moist, and not spicy [which are super important factors when it comes to feeding my toddler]. Salsa or other condiments weren't needed with the meats and was easily enjoyable on its own. Beans and rice were also seasoned very well. Additional points for fluffy rice that wasn't undercooked and semi crunchy. Thank you TB for adding another option to my little girl's very selective options when it comes to her eats!! We will most definitely be back. read more

I ordered a quesabirria and a tostada ceviche, and it was delicious. The meat was thinly sliced with cheese and stir-fried onions and bell peppers. The tortilla that the meat was folded into was well done, and the dipping broth was good as well. Randomly came here since I was craving tacos and just something good! It'd located at the shell gas station and they do have tables under shade for you to eat there as well as Togo. Ordered tacos of cabeza and lengua. Both were delicious. Their green salsa is more spicy than the orange one which you would think would be the other way around but no. Nonetheless still good. Also ordered an Al pastor sope.. everything but the sope was good since to me it was just too hard but everyone has their own way to make them. The truck was in a small parking lot at the Olivera Egg Ranch location. It was not too busy as I went a little later in the night time. They have a couple of tables and seats so you can dine next to the truck with some comfortable lighting. There was no specific pricing on some of their items unfortunately but the burritos had a range of their prices which I guess is determined by the meat you're ordering. The cashier taking our order was friendly. I had ordered a Super Burrito Carne Asada and I was a little surprised that it had lettuce but it was a delicious difference in texture compared to other burritos I've had. The sauces were AMAZING. The Salsa Verde was a great addition to the food and the other sauce was spicy but not too spicy that it would take away the taste. I also ordered an Al Pastor burrito and I think I might have found my top Al Pastor in San Jose. It was DELICIOUS. The only downside was that I wasn't given too much meat but it could have just been that I was there an hour before their closing time. The Quesabirria Tacos had flavorful and soft meat but their consume was the star of the dish. I even put some on my burritos and drank the whole thing down. Definitely coming here to order this again. read more

Every time I order quesabirria, I forget about the last time I ordered quesabirria and consequently struggled to finish them. These guys are hefty--filled with meat, onions, and cheese. Honestly, one plate of 3 tacos can be shared between two decently big eaters. 1st one hit the spot, 2nd one got me to 100%, and 3rd one left me crawling around. Consomé was barely seasoned but still fragrant, which was a welcome partner to the already heavy and salty tacos, but boring to taste on its own.
