After almost thirty years with United Air Temp, when they quoted us $30k+ to replace the high efficiency HVAC that they installed - which has never made our house feel comfortable, even though they added a return - I posted on my Facebook page, asking for recommendations. Our friends and neighbors overwhelmingly recommended Fresco and Alberto. And these are picky, suspicious, tight-fisted people. All of them said Alberto did good work and could be trusted. Night and day. What a difference. Alberto's estimate was slightly over HALF the cost quoted by UAT, for a better brand. He and his son, Tony, and Alfredo, came in, removed the old system, completely redid the defective duct work UAT had installed (showing us the faults as they went), rerouted the second return to make it more effective, and installed the new system (Trane furnace, blower, AC). They know what they are doing, are respectful, patient, neat, efficient, and we had some laughs. I asked a LOT of questions. They were all answered. This is a father and son company. Not a big box store outfit. If you need a brochure and a ten page estimate, the simplicity might disarm you. Don't be alarmed. They know what they are doing. Alberto sketched the duct work on a piece of cardboard, for his metal cutting company: they delivered the custom built ducts from that sketch. Our old duct work was full of holes, and the joints were taped. Alberto's duct work fits precisely, and they paint the joints instead of taping them. UAT had installed a 100k BTU furnace. Alberto installed an 80k one. It took a lot of back and forth to understand why this was a better choice for our house, but Alberto patiently explained it to my satisfaction, and I could see that his reasoning was correct. There are some language challenges, which are easily overcome. Paperwork is minimal, though I was impressed that Alberto made a point of making sure I registered our new system with Trane, for the warranty. Trust me: they do good work, they are honest, and they are experienced. Our house has never felt so quiet and comfortable. Thank you, Alberto and Tony. Fresco for life! read more

Alberto really came through for us--on speed, flexibility, price, and customer relations. I contracted with Magnolia Plumbing to replace our rooftop A/C. They removed the old unit with a crane, tore the cardboard off the new one...and realized it wouldn't fit. And then they hardly communicated. So I was left without A/C for a few weeks, as it got hotter. I scrambled to find another company. Alberto responded quickly. We went from initial contact to installation in 12 days. His workers were polite and friendly, and went the extra mile--well, 12 feet--to replace an old thermostat cable in the inaccessible attic with a modern, many-stranded one, which other companies would not promise to do. In my experience this family-run company won't give you the most polished, corporate customer experience but they make up for it by being nimble and resourceful. I was flexible in return, for example, letting them throw in whatever thermostat they had in the the truck, knowing that I'd just replace it on my own dime the next week. It worked fine that way. I don't know yet if the company will stand behind its work in the years to come if something goes wrong. But for the price, quality, and speed of work so far, I'm happy with my choice. The parts warranty comes from Bosch, which lists Fresco as a certified installer. For annual service, I'll have many options. For labor costs of repair I'll self-insure. read more

BEWARE! Juan Galdamez, who goes by Alberto and is the owner of Fresco Air LLC, is very deceptive. Alberto initially quoted me a reasonable price for a fairly simple job replacing my entire HVAC system (Blower, outdoor compressor and a return duct). In his words: "this will only take a day". His crew showed up and began dismantling the old system, making a mess of my entire house, cutting a large hole in a wall, and then he slips in that it is going to cost an additional $3,000 for the "extra" return duct work. Classic bait and switch. When I told him that we had already discussed the return duct (via email and phone call) and that it was included in the original quote, he lied straight to my face. When I refused to pay the $3,000 ransom, he told his crew to pack up and leave, leaving my entire house in shambles. I told him I have a pregnant wife, two new babies, and needed help cleaning up and reconnecting my washer/dryer. He said "we're not doing a damn thing to help you". He uses a PO BOX and his LLC is not in good standing in the state of MD. Very manipulative man. read more

Alberto's team installed a new central air system and a new Bosch Combi boiler in August 2021. Fresco had competitive pricing, and the timing worked out right that they were able to start installation a couple weeks early. Alberto is clearly knowledgeable and I found him to be very straight-forward in communications. The installation crew cleaned up the areas they worked in every day and provided proper floor protection during the entire project. Ultimately, I'm writing this review because of Alberto's follow-through with customer service. There were a two separate warranty-related issues to the Combi boiler and A/C unit that arose during the sale of my home and Alberto took care of them immediately on both occasions. read more

I rarely write reviews of contractors or tradesmen because they are so often mediocre and at worst, untrustworthy and unreliable. So trust me when I say that I can't recommend this business enough. Alberto does very good work, for a reasonable price. He solved a problem with my tankless water heater that at least three other plumbers failed to figure out, and worked with the most frustrating public utility in DC (Washington Gas) to get it fixed, even when it required multiple trips to my home (sometimes waiting around for hours for the gas company.) Every previous plumber I consulted suggested expensive and unnecessary fixes including replacing the entire system. (For context, this was a brand-new water heater that had been installed by the builder and passed at inspection, then gave us trouble once we moved in.) Alberto dealt expertly and patiently with the problem and after living in this house for over a year without consistent hot water, it is not an exaggeration to say that he single-handedly improved our quality of life by 100%. Needless to say, his fix also made much more technical sense than what other tradesmen had been proposing and cost a fraction of the price to boot. Because of our great experience using Alberto to fix our tankless water heater, I called him when our AC's compressor died and another, bigger HVAC company wanted an outrageous amount of money to fix it. Alberto fixed it for a very fair price, and we now have a wonderfully functioning AC again. It's a small operation so you're dependent on his schedule and availability -- one time he had to reschedule the morning of a service appointment because his son had to go home sick on another job, for example -- but I always found him to be communicative, responsive, and best of all, flexible and willing to work around my schedule, too. I also like that you're working with and talking directly to the owner, so there's no he-said/she-said stuff that you get with larger companies where one contractor contradicts what their colleague previously told you, or you have to route every question through an administrative assistant who can't answer follow-ups. He's also clearly very knowledgeable about what he does, and he's proactive: while fixing our water heater issue, he also noted and scheduled some maintenance we needed to perform to keep it functioning well. I plan to keep him on speed dial for any future mechanical issues and can't recommend him highly enough. read more

Alberto and Tony are a great local father and son team. They helped me installed my Mitsubishi units in Riverdale in February 2021. The quote on the labor and the units beats 3-4 other competition and everything is inclusive in the price. They did warn about supply chain issue since it takes some time to get the Mitsubishi components for the install but due to Covid-19, that's acceptable. I went from 400-600 dollars a month heating/cooling bill during the hottest to coldest months to 100-200. It was worth it even for a small 1070sqft home. For smaller homes without existing ductwork, installing Mitsubishi split system for the house was a better option. The units are great and still running fine. They do need yearly service so I will come to them for that. read more

I recently had a traditional central A/C system put in, and I was very pleased with my experience working with Alberto. He came highly recommended by a neighbor I trust (had done mini-splits in an English basement). My neighbor said Alberto is exacting in his standards for quiet, efficient systems, and I found him to be that. He also takes pride in his work, which is no small thing, and I'll come back to that. In the lead-up to the job, I conveyed the importance of sticking to a budget that I had in mind, and Alberto was able to help me think through the pros and cons of different ways I could save money. Some trade-offs I took (painting myself), while others I did not (I trusted his expertise on the features of the equipment once we discussed key differences). Throughout the project I found Alberto to be highly accessible via text or phone. At one point, it became clear that we had a misunderstanding about whether exposed ductwork was to be covered. I was prepared to do my own painting but no box work; Alberto had not built box work into his project costs. I'm pleased to say we resolved that issue promptly and to my full satisfaction. I watched my dad and my grandfather run small businesses when I was growing up, and I've seen many times what that particular pride looks like when even if you disagree with the customer you, as a business owner, make sure your service is beyond reproach. Alberto, Installed my new HVAC system about two years ago. there was a problem with a vibrating piece on the system that he said he would fix several times and never did. He never returned my calls. Also when he put the mitsubishi system in the back bedroom as it's own source of heat, he tore through the blow-in insulation and never epaired it, which has helped make the room freezing with no amount of heat that will make it better. Thirdly, he doesn't play well with others--he picked fights and acted like a know-it-all with the other contractors on site. When I told him I wanted to test the system before I paid him the final payment, he threatened to yank the system out. He can be a nasty little guy. FYI-all he had to do is the ask the plumber, the carpenters, drywallers, electricians, tile men, etc on site if I was reliable pay. read more

Alberto Galdamez of Fresco Mecanico--we thought he was excellent when he came over to look at the situation, knowledgeable, personable, reasonably priced. But then he never showed up for the appointment we scheduled & every time we called him he said he was with another customer and would "call back in 10 min" but never did. Furthermore, we sent him some polite text inquiries, which we could see he actually read, but still no answer!! I really don't get how a contractor can LIE like this and not show up! At least he could have had the decency to call the customer to say he was too busy to take the job or didn't want it. read more

I've had them do work on several occasions and always been very pleased. I once had to have a whole new ac/heat system installed, including ductwork. I talked to several people, because I've learned over time that poorly done ductwork can really shorten the life and efficiency of a system. Alberto, the owner, seemed to know more of what he was talking about than most of the others. This is a fairly small business, so you'll get to deal directly with the owner about details, rather than a salesperson who will only be trying to up sell you. read more

Alberto recently installed a new water heater for us. He gave us solid advice on if we should try to repair our existing water heater or replace in kind. He was very easy to get in touch with and schedule appointments. He was exceptional with staying in touch with me and making sure I understood cost and timeline of when parts would arrive. He even researched and advised me on my existing water heater and reviewed pictures before I hired him for the job. He offered honest feedback and methods for how to save money on parts and the installation. He arrived for the installation on time and with an assistant.
