Our upstairs a/c conked out, naturally on the hottest day of the year. In searching for a service provider, I was surprised that the Yelp ratings of JDL varied so much between the extremes of 5 stars and 1 star. But I checked other rating apps where JDL did much better. I had a text chat with Amber, their office manager, and decided to try them. I was very happy overall. They were responsive in communicating and were able to send a technician quickly. Chris was well prepared, friendly, and efficient. He quickly diagnosed the problem (bad capacitor) and was able to fix it in a single visit. The cost was very reasonable. I would certainly use JDL again. Incidentally, for some unknown reason, my Yelp profile shows me as living in San Francisco. Actually, I am in southern Maryland. read more

The tech was very confused after I gave verbal instructions. Then after 30 minutes into the service he decided he couldn't continue because police were present in the parking lot. He wouldn't even complete any maintenance in the home due to the police. The office didn't follow up on rescheduling. I'm sure they will still try to bill me. My initial concern is above. My concern now is that the owner called me at 9:41pm after I provided this review and yelled at me. I also find it interesting that Amber put this in her response and I hadn't even mentioned that part yet. read more

We had solicited multiple quotes for issues with our heat pump with a variety of solutions and price points suggested. Long story short, we ultimately chose JDL to install a new unit in Oct 2025. All seems well and we can definitely tell this unit is working more efficiently than our last as reflected in the BGE usage metrics. Fast forward to Jan 2026 and winter storm Fern. Our heat went out on Sunday 1/25 afternoon. We have placed multiple calls to JDL and been told their trucks can't get to us (fair point) but that a tech could call us and walk us through the steps to turn on auxiliary heat. 24 hours later and still no call or any type of contact from any of the service staff. So it remains to be seen if this is a dud of a unit, a result of bad installation, or a simple fix...but without any type of response from the company, we are not comfortable recommending them. With it only being 3 months old, though, it's not looking good! read more

Replaced unit with Bosch 3 ton variable speed system at a fraction of above quote. Either their supply means is garbage or they were out for blood. Can't decide which. Avoid these clowns. read more

The heat pump was throwing out an error code so I called JDL because of past experiences. I was able to get a same day appointment. Ire arrived between the time promised. Ire was friendly, knowledgeable, and very professional. He went to work and troubleshoot my issue and was able to resolve it very promptly. The cost of visit was also very reasonable. I called them out for an estimate, and they were able to come within 6 hours. Within 24 hours I got the estimates and the options of equipment and financing. I was able to schedule my within 2 days, and upon arrival everyone was polite, professional, knowledgable, and respectful of my home and property. Everything was explained to me regarding the equipment, what was being done, why things were being done, and how it was different and an improvement to my 22 year old system. JDL responded to our request on another website to come to our home very quickly given that both of our HVAC systems went in our home. I am horrible with names, but the sales rep came out, examined our current faulty systems gave us a quote before he left and we were able to start the process. The JDL crew arrived the next morning bright and early and began to work. By the end of the day, they had replaced both of our HVAC systems, installed new thermostats and cleaned up the debri made during removal of our old systems and installation of the new. They were all very professional and knowledgeable. Absolutely would recommend! read more

Came to my house and he check everything and one o two days later I get gave his estimate of $1200 to fix my furnace So I call another company for a second opinion and they charge me $80 it was a quick fix the tech told me it was just the nozzle it was dirty!!! so how. Ire sold me on the job and was very nice. The guys who actually did the job ran the condensation line into my sump pump and the line got wedged in the the float which caused my basement to flood. When I told the Joe, he told me that's not their fault and to call my insurance because he didn't want to put it on his insurance. Ian, the tech who came out to look at where they put the condensation line that caused the flood had a horrible attitude and acted like he was looking for a confrontation. They gave me a choice to run the condensation line outside or into the sump pump, I chose sump pump so I wouldn't have water freezing in the line during the winter. Their excuse was "you chose to run the line into the sump pump"... Yes, I did choose that route, but JDL physically put the line in the sump pump. JDL cost me over $3k out of pocket to replace the carpet in my basement due to their blatant negligence. The system they installed works fine, but I will never recommend this company to do any work if they can't own up to their mistakes. Just know that if you do hire them and something goes wrong you will have an uphill battle to fight because they don't care. I should have filed a complaint with BBB. read more

Pros: Has answering service who is available 24/7 - in case of emergency. Tech arrived within estimated time frame. Cons: Because I didn't know the right questions to ask, I made wrong choice regarding how to move forward. When unit stopped working for second time, the person who I spoke with at JDL claimed tech informed me the unit wasn't fixable. This isn't accurate. The tech said he thought that the unit could be fixed, but if what he did didn't fix the problem, a new unit would be needed. JDL wanted to send another tech out to repeat what they had done and said that if the repair didn't work, they would provide me an estimate to replace the unit. This felt like I was being "milked." So.... I chose to contact another company. The new tech opened up the unit and said that the unit was clearly not fixable. He asked me if the other tech looked inside the unit, which I never saw him do. The new company tech reiterated that I should have been advised that the unit needed replacement, that nothing could be done to fix the unit. The new company is now replacing the unit. Similar to other reviews, I felt like I was knowingly being sold repairs that JDL knew wouldn't work and that they were "upselling" repairs. I accept my role that I didn't know the right questions to ask, however.... I feel JDL could have been clearer regarding the issue. Additionally, I was quoted an estimated cost. I mentioned I had a 10% off coupon. Interesting that the final bill ended up much more (over 20 % higher) than estimate and even with discount, the final bill was more than 10% higher than the estimate. My advice, buyer beware, call a different company. Check reviews of JDL at the BBB. But if you have JDL come (out due to emergency), ask a lot of questions and have a witness to what the tech tells you and doesn't tell you. read more

Arranged for for an estimate for a new heating/air conditioning system, was given a window of 11am-3 pm with a call 15 minutes prior, no one showed up nor any cancellatio call! Called JDL Home Services at 3:05 & was told someone came by my house at 10:18am & no one was home, a picture was taken of my front door & both my cell & landline were not answered! None of this was true, if a window of 11-3 was scheduled why would someone show up at 10:18 without a call! No calls were ever made to either phone number given or an email sent, I requested a copy of my front door picture & was told, they would see what they could do!! Service was done to the ac unit, but the service was done wrong, and the execution was terrible. They replaced our thermostat when it was not even compatible with our ac unit. We had to have another AC company to fix the repair work they did. Not only the work was done wrong, but the customer service was poor. THIS COMPANY ONLY WANTS TO UPSELL, NOT FIX SIMPLE PROBLEMS Our boiler went down and so we contacted a clearinghouse for quotes. JDL was the first to reach out and were able to come out same day to take a look. Technician showed up on time, and that's the last positive thing I can say. The problem turned out to be a bad thermostat and a corroded terminal strip from a leak several years ago, which had subsequently caused a wire to snap loose. Armando, the tech claimed that this meant that the boiler was dead and was more than happy to quote me $13,800 for a combo boiler. He claimed that he couldn't reattach the wire stating safety issues (totally bogus), and could only sell me a new boiler. So, I called my uncle who runs his own HVAC company in southern Maryland to ask him if all this was bullshit, I was able to reattach the wire and boiler fired up and the house has been cozy and warm. So thank you JDL for diagnosing the problem, but that's it you greedy bastards! I will never use you again or recommend you to anyone. You are more interested in making money than actually fixing problems. I don't know who you have been able to bamboozle, but you didn't pluck this sucker off the vine. *Edit- The company is claiming they upcharged us by $13K over a "safety concern" Please be aware when deciding who's side you believe here that the person who ended up helping us with the problem was my uncle who owns an HVAC company in southern MD. All they want to do is make money off of you. I bought a brand new system from them not even 2 years ago. The system stopped working numerous time and even caused flooding. As of recently when it stopped working they charged me $1000 and that's after the "discount" and the issue? "Lack of maintenance" a brand new system... wasn't working due to lack of maintenance. JDL HVAC Services has been a pleasure to deal with, and I've had two experiences with the company that demonstrated the care and response to their local customers. The first experience was when my neighbor's AC went out last year (on Easter day, while my neighbors were away for Spring break)- JDL came out ON EASTER DAY *TWICE* to try and diagnose the problem, and then quickly installed a new system the following week after the old system couldn't be salvaged. My neighbor has been very happy with the product and service. The second experience was in my house, and just happened during the snowstorm on 3/21 when our heat pump kept tripping- JDL came out within 1 hour of our call, in the middle of the snowstorm, and spent a few hours diagnosing possible issues and troubleshooting. We have a home warranty, so these poor guys came out TWICE, during off-hours, and left with only the $100 deductible in their pockets. Hopefully the warranty company will compensate these hard-working men well for their response time and HVAC skills, and we are nice and warm in our house today, thanks to JDL HVAC! read more

I found JDL on Angie's List and they were rated very highly. JDL was the 4th contractor I had contacted and got a quote from. I had contact other Home Depot approved contractors who were just rude and quoted me extremely high prices for sub-par systems. Isak from JDL was extremely professional and extremely knowledgeable and recommend services based on what I needed not on what he had to sell. They showed up in time and the work was just pristine. One of the biggest reason I chose to go with JDL is their service, it was extremely easy and fun to deal with these guys. They installed a new hvac system from Carrier which works great. DID NOT HONOR PRICE OFFERED AND AGREED TO. DID NOT CLOSE THE LOOP WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD CHECK INTO IT. SUGGESTION: GET EVERYTHING IN DETAILED WRITING FROM THEM EARLY ON. EXPERIENCE Initially, my JDL experience was good with Xavier and Amber. Shortly after, they sent me "Better" and "Best" equipment estimates. I indicated that I was going to get estimates from two other companies and I quickly (approx. 45 minutes later) received a call back from JDL indicating that their proposal team had discussed it and could reduce the price of each proposal more than $1000 (this brought the final price to about $8k which was about $600 more than a previous estimate they had given me a year earlier). Over the next week or so, JDL periodically checked in to see if I had any other questions and I got estimates from two other companies. I decided to go with JDL, whose reduced price estimate was in the middle in terms of cost, because of the customer service experience with Xavier and Amber. Once I verbally accepted their "Best" price proposal and tried to confirm everything in writing, that's when things went bad. After I verbally accepted the proposal and requested written confirmation, I followed up with a call a couple days later. Long story short, I ended up speaking with Randi who indicated my AC replacement "involved more" than they realized so they would have to charge me the original estimate without the approx. $1,000 price adjustment - somehow all the stuff they did not factor in brought the price back to the exact same original estimate. I had for a while been trying to get them to put in writing the specific scope of work Xavier verbally detailed to me so this was particularly frustrating that they "suddenly" realized it was more work after I accepted their proposal. If I had not requested a written confirmation of the entire scope would they have gotten to the job site and then tried to up charge me? I told Randi how surprised I was and I honestly I got the sense that should could not care less. At the end of the conversation, she told me she would check to see if there was anything they could do with the price but "wasn't making any promises" - four days later I've heard nothing back to close the loop. GRADING To be clear, Xavier and Amber were A+ experiences in my eyes. Randi was a C in interaction and F in follow up. Not even seeming to try to honor your word is a failing grade in my eyes. OVERALL TAKEAWAY I'm a business person so I understand how important honoring your word is (I've made less on a project than I originally expected in order to honor my word and maintain my name) - JDL didn't do that here neither honoring the price offered nor following up later. This showed me something and let me know what they thought of me and my business. I have other rental properties and potential business. Even before Xavier came out, I mentioned how in the next year, when the tenants vacate, I'd like to remove property's boiler heating and convert to furnace. When I have great customer service experiences, I sing a business' praises to anyone who will listen. When I don't, I will answer anyone that asks about my experience. Before JDL reneged on its proposal, I told a developer cousin in the process of converting a property to an 8 unit rental that my experience thus far with JDL had been good and that she should add them to the potential bidders for her upcoming HVAC work. Well, this was a new and strange experience. After JDL HVAC Services came to my place for a MINI Split installation quote they never contacted me about my estimate. I emailed after three days and they said they would follow up that day. No answer so the next day I emailed again, and to my surprise they said they wouldn't be bidding. JDL gave no reason except for the the fact that the were busy for two months. Well, why didn't they say that before scheduling and wasting my time. We are in a pandemic so I narrowed contractors down to just three. Now I am left with two to choose from when I could have easily researched a proper third company. Very unprofessional. read more

Been on my list since moving into my house to have the HVAC unit checked. Label on the unit showed that the unit hadn't been serviced since 2010... With this summer coming, and it likely to be a hot one, I went to Angi's list to find a HVAC company to come and check things out. Angi's recommended JDL and another company. The other company called me first, and set and appointment for two weeks later. JDL called me a bit later that day and told me they could send someone out same day between 5-9pm. Ire showed up, asked me what was going on and I told him. He did a few tests then opened up the unit where we found a good amount of black mold. He instantly recommended to leave it off and replace the unit. We discussed options, he answered my questions... and while we were talking, we discovered that my water heater was leaking too. We added that to the package and he left. Ire called me the next day (a Saturday) and let me know that they could come out Monday for the install. The team (Carlos, Jerel, Jay, Mohammed and Conrad) showed up on time and performed the work. Removing the old units and installing the new units took about 8 hours or so. They answered all of my questions and did an amazing job of cleaning up after themselves! I only had to vacuum my basement, which needed to be done before their arrival. I needed a smart thermostat installed. Should be a simple job. Sadly it was too much for JDL. The tech didn't correctly secure the common wire and so the thermostat lost power. While I waited on a replacement thermostat they came back out and hooked up a loaner thermostat. After a couple days it too lost power due to the improperly secured common wire. While the tech was out the first time he told me my furnace had a crack in it and needed to be replaced. This was a $6500 job so I called around to get estimates. So far two other companies have said the furnace is fine and doesn't need to be replaced. I had to pay a second company $160 to properly connect the smart thermostat and JDL thinks I don't deserve a refund for installing the thermostat incorrectly. If they can't handle a simple just b I'm not going to trust them with a big one. read more

I received a same-day quote however, after signing the quote I had to follow-up for the "what's next" conversation...I thought that was odd, but I went along to get along. The team arrived on time; I think there was 3 people working on tank removal an installation at some point. They finished relatively quickly, and most importantly, I had light clean up; they weren't terribly messy. I also appreciated the consultative approach the representative took, he offered advise for other potential issues; it didn't feel "sales-y. " Whelp, it's been a week, an I don't have any issues with my new water tank. I will hire them again in the future. OHHHH Price!!!! Outstanding services! We came home today to a very cold house and a heating system that was not functioning. I found JDL on both HomeAdvisors and Yelp and called them immediately. Joe answered the call right away. He was both professional and courteous and he dispatched someone immediately to assess our heating system and to identify the problem. I very much appreciated how Joe described the steps that would be taken by the technician so I knew exactly what to expect. Within an hour our technician, Ire, arrived and he was equally awesome. Ire quickly diagnosed the problem and had it corrected in less than an hour. He also was very considerate of our home (wearing shoe covers and keeping things very clean) and was great with our toddler. I will definitely turn to JDL in the future! Thank you Joe and Ire! I'm really struggling with this company. They charge you $30 to come out. It turns out what was wrong with my furnace was not what I thought it was. The technician told me that and then left after five minutes without actually telling me what was wrong. Then, the second time someone came back and told me what was wrong. The technician ran out the door before I even got the estimate for fixing it. Now, I'm trying to schedule a third time a week later. read more

Excellent service from Armando and his colleagues, installing a Navien combi-boiler. Quick response time, friendly, and taking safety precautions for Covid. I was warned that a line blockage and air in the system may cause a future issue, and one month later when it came to pass, they were quick to come on site and bleed the air out as required. Not sure if this is a real HVAC company or just a scam. I called them to get an estimate about an HVAC issue. I paid a $30 fee to have a technician inspect the heat pump and to get a cost estimate. After missing the first appointment (and not calling me to let me know that the technician cannot make it), I called again to reschedule. A technician showed up for the second appointment, took a few pictures of the heat pump, and said I would get an estimate in 2 - 3 business days. I did not hear anything for a week and called them to request the estimate. I was told again that I would receive it in 2 - 3 business days but haven't heard anything... read more

We had JDL come out for an estimate for furnace and AC replacement with new ducting to an addition. They arrived as scheduled on 11/12 and we went over all of the details. We never heard back from them with an estimate, so we called a week later to ask about it. After some hemming and hawing, we were told that someone would call us back that day with the estimate. JDL replaced the blower motor and fan in my HVAC unit this past July and did an excellent job from diagnosing the problem to installation. When I turned on the furnace for the first time last week, it was making an unusually loud noise so I had JDL come check it out. Again, they diagnosed the problem quickly and explained clearly what needed to be done. Within 2 days, they had received the necessary parts (by overnight delivery) and arranged for installation. Jeremy Allen did an excellent job of replacing the orifices and burner plates and took the time to triple check his work to make sure everything worked properly. Jeremy's diligence, professionalism and knowledge was evident and left me with absolute confidence in the work. I would highly recommend JDL and Jeremy for any HVAC work. read more

Woke up to a warm house... quick call the JDL, they had a service tech (Ian) at my place within 3 1/2 hours. Quick diagnosis of a bad capacitor (also an easy fix), plus he checked the pressure in my ten year old system and brought it up to speed. The system is definitely getting old and headed for replacement, but there was no push for extra/costly repairs today. read more

BIG LIAR LAIR LAIR worst people no customer service i have a home warranty they were send through them. because of their lies my home warranty deny my claim. they said my gas valve went bad due to lack of maintenance mr xavig/IAIN wrote of my service check list i need to replace pilot assembly ignition. called in this morning spoke with mr joe he said i need to replace my gas valve. same company but two people have different to say. on top of that mr joe was rude and arrogant he don't have and respect to talk with ladies. when i called him second time he said i am being impatient and he can deny my service i would never recommend LAIRS and mr joe said he would give me an estimate to fix out of my pocket expense which he never call. when i called another service provider they said my gas valve did not go bad due to lack of maintenance but due to wear and tear i would have given them zero stars if i could don't trust this company read more
