I have had the Freon Doctor install a vent free gas log fireplace replacement with a thermostatic remote. The installation was very professional. The price was less then any competitors pricing. The service on our new gas logs has been above and beyond anything we could have expected! I give this Company an A+ rating. We also had the Freon Doctor replace our A/C/Heat Pump with a top of the line Trane unit all at a better than a competitive price! I got a new AC unit 6 years ago with a 10-year warranty. Today the house is currently 82 degrees inside. I have called and emailed the company resulting in the phone number being disconnected and the email address to be invalid. The owner of the company comes off like a nice person but after doing some research it appears he is a con artist. I got a service contract with Freon Doctor to perform a gas log service annually two years ago. It cost me several hundred dollars. Soto came out and cleaned my logs without a problem last year. This year, however, I had the worst possible experience for a simple fire logs service. I made an appointment for them to come out between 8:00 and 10:00 am. No show, no call. At 10:30 am, I called to find out when they were coming. The man who answered the phone (I'm sure it was Soto pretending to be an employee) said he would call Soto and find out when he would be there and call me back. Crickets. I called back at 11:00 am. The same guy said that my phone goes straight to voice mail. I checked it. It did not, nor did he leave a message. Said he would call me back. Crickets. We had dinner plans that evening and had to leave at 5:15 pm to get there. When I called back a third time at 4:30 pm, Soto (or whoever) said that the phone had gone to voice mail three times and that a crew was on their way. I told him about the departure time. Still, no one shows up. We left and passed the Freon Doctor van on our way out of our area. We had no choice but to continue as we had a long drive for dinner. We returned that evening to find a flyer in our door saying that they were sorry to miss us and to feel free to contact them for another appointment after the holidays. I had already waited four plus weeks to get this appointment only to be stood up. Unfortunately for Soto (or whoever), he left his invoice case on our porch. He had to send someone the next day to get it. That man said he couldn't service our logs, but a text I got from Soto that he would take care of our logs too. The lies we were told were over the top - over and over the top! Bottom line: Don't use these people. In our opinion, they were completely dishonest with us!. read more

If Soto Jonas is out of business it can't be too soon. He operated his business out of an abandoned sheet metal shop in the woods, at Jetts sheet metal shop 221 Newton Rd Fredericksburg Va. Yet his website says Lewiston Rd. That is the address of his ex wife, it is a private family residence not a business location. It was disgusting to hear him. Talk to customers about is emigration from greece, how much he loves the lord, and what a good turnHe is doing for his customers. His parts inventory consisted of old units stored outside in the weather that he would pull parts off of and sell as new. It's hard to say where he is right now. But being he had many outstanding lawsuits against him. For not completing jobs, we're not doing them properly.Perhaps he is just in hiding who knows. I asked for an inspection of my gas fireplace in a home I purchased. The owner of the company (Soto) came out and told me that it was not possible to inspect because you can't use a 20 lb tank (all I had on hand) on a gas fireplace (not true). He told me I needed to get a 100 gallon tank, and that they sold them (empty) for $4,900. I said I would think about it and they went on their way. $4,900 is easily $3,000 over any other price I could find. AVOID!! read more

I hired Soto,the owner at Freon Dr to replace an outdoor patio fireplace log set. They charged $1900 for the work. Soto seems friendly and pleasant but that's a front. They installed an indoor log set in my outdoor fireplace. It put out no heat and the pilot wouldn't stay lit. I called Freon Dr and he offered to cover our beautiful View with plywood to prevent the wind from blowing out the pilot. We declined. I called the manufacturer who advised us that the unit was an indoor unit and should never be installed outside. Informed Freon Dr who said they would replace the logs.This was in December 2020. They put us off because they were overcome with HVAC work. In August Freon Dr finally came by to deliver a log set that they claimed had been back ordered and out of stock. Soto showed up with three boxes of obviously used junk. All of the logs were chipped or broken, the front log was cracked in half and Sot glued it together with red high temperature glue. It looked awful and the burner once again would not stay lit. Freon Dr claimed that UPS damaged the logs. They said they ordered new ones and then conflicted themselves multiple times. They told me the logs were back ordered and it would be weeks. I called the company who informed me there was no back order and advised me that they could deliver the logs in two days. I informed Soto who told me to order the logs and have them delivered to my home and he would install them. He made no offer to pay for them. Weeks later Freon Dr delivered a set of logs that are literally stuffed into the space. They don't look good, they don't fit the space, he did not provide the burner that goes with those logs. As usual the pilot will not stay lit and when I advised him, Mr Soto did not answer. He took my money and provided used damage junk. The manufacturer of the logs disputed everything he says. I gave him every opportunity to make it right and he continued to treat us as if we couldn't verify his statements. All we asked was forFreon Dr to provide a log set that looked like a $1900 set and actually A year later, I have crappy looking, cheap logs that don't fit the fireplace, a faulty burner and a fireplace that doesn't work. I am forced to take him to court and file with the BBC. He rips off disabled veterans, takes your money and delivers nothing. Avoid this company at all costs, you too will be dragging him into court. Horrible experience. I will post this review on every social media site that I can to save anyone else from this frustration. The log set with burner on the company site is $900. I paid $1900and the unit doesn't work. That's a steep labor charge for something that doesn't function. Avoid Freon Dr. read more

I don't do this. Prefer to keep to myself, but recently had a bad/embarrassing situation that I thought I should share. A/C went at the house last week. Did a google search, called up Freon Doctor, and had them at the house in a matter of hours, great! Mr. Sotto (the owner) tells me the compressor went -- gonna be a $3,800 temporary fix but recommended a full replacement for $13,500, uff. I'm currently in South America so felt in a pinch. I agreed to the $3,800 fix. 20 minutes later, come to my senses and try reaching back out to Mr. Sotto to put a pause on that order so I can get a second opinion. I call him 4 times over the span of a half hour, he doesn't answer. During this period, I'm also calling his assistant who was great. I tell her I'd like to cancel the order for now. She can't do that though as I need to talk to Mr. Sotto. She calls him, he tells her to have me call him, but he still won't answer my calls. Finally we get in touch by his assistant who puts two phones up to each other, me on one end and him on the other. After 3/4 minutes of argument/pushback he agrees to cancel the order. Phew. I call someone else for a second opinion. They come out a few days later -- bad capacitor, fix it on the spot, $200 bill. Amazing. A day after that, I check my bank account and notice a $4,000 charge in my account. Wait, Mr. Sotto said he was going to cancel the transaction? Back to playing phone tag with him and his team. I also send multiple emails over a several day time period reiterating that I'd like to cancel the transaction and receive a refund...crickets... No services were provided/needed -- the A/C is fixed! I asked to cancel within a half hour of agreeing to a lower amount than I was actually charged for. Still, the $4,000 charge sits on my card. I'm told I'll receive a refund in 5/7 days. No proof of this is provided, I'm just supposed to trust them on it. Like I was supposed to trust them to cancel the order to begin with. I'm not sure what's going on with this business, but I've seen enough red flags to think it's worth writing this up to let whoever reads this know to maybe look elsewhere the next time you need HVAC services. read more

I strongly advise anyone not to use this companies service. In January of this year, I called them to service my Lennox fireplace which was having trouble staying lite. They advised that the service call would be $99.00 and then they would determine what the issue may be and advise next steps. Two service people came. One did all the work and the other "supervised". They took hours and didn't seem to have much experience although the "supervisor" claimed to have been doing this for many many years. After what seemed forever and not being able to fix the issue, I was told that we needed several new parts and that they would be very hard to find because of the model fireplace we had. The parts included a millivolt generator, pilot hood, thermocouple, bracket and sensor. Total Cost for parts $408.00 and labor would be $490 for a total of $898.00 Needless to say, I was overwhelmed and said I couldn't afford that and would let them know in the future if I decided to call them back. After some additional research and contacted other companies explaining what the problem was, I found one in April that would come for a $75 service charge and should the problem be with the pilot lite and thermocouple, the part would be about $25. One service person came and found that the parts I had just needed a cleaning, no parts had to be replaced and in 30 minutes had the fireplace working like new. I paid the $75 service charge and he was on his way. My savings $823.00. read more

I called Freon Doctor because I had used them in the past and was very satisfied. My pilot was on, the fireplace, and had good flames but it would not light. Goggled to get an idea of what it might be. Every video said a good cleaning should do the trick. Called and they came the next day. They said it needed new parts, even the parts that was working perfectly. Repair cost was $905. He wanted and got a $600 deposit. Thinking about it all night, I decided to cancel the repair at 9:00 the next morning, and I was told that he would personally return my check. Had a funny feeling so I did a stop payment. Called about 5 times, never a return call, to pay for the cleaning. I Found out that they were coming to one of my neighbors so she called when they were there. Although he said he would return the check, he tried to deposit it. He said I see you did a stop payment. I'm glad I did because I don't when I would have gotten my money back. I re-lite the fireplace, turn the switch on and it worked. read more

Whatever you do, do not sign up for maintenance contract. It is a borderline scam, Sotto will take your money and will give you a run around if it's time for you to schedule a maintenance. It is a time waster group of people. You will call and get an available appointment and waste your time waiting for them on the day and time of schedule. He will call or text you a few hours past the expected time and tell you he can't come. I ask him politely when can he stop by so I can be home. No reply. Its is a start up job for my heating. I requested it in November 2019, it is now February 2020. He will give yo a discount on repair if you sign up for maintenance contract. Save your hard earned money and pass on that deal. read more

Didn't clean where wires and electrical was on fireplace. Had to get them to come back thr next day because the fireplace wouldn't stay lit & the owner had a terrible attitude and told us he wasn't responsible for anything. Refused to look at the fireplace and said he'd refund our money and wasn't ever going to come back. Told us the pilot light was weak and that we needed a new fireplace because it was supposedly "old." He tells us this the day after he said everything was fine on the system. I'm waiting on a refund check but I will never do business with this company again if the owner flat out has an attitude with my husband after he was asked to remove his shoes. read more

He charged more than he was supposed to on my credit card . He was only authorized to charge $1,000. . He stole a $350.00 bottle of my Freon R22 . He promised to pay me for the brand new bottle he never did . I had given him the bottle of Freon to put into my ac but he said it was struck by lightening . After I called my insurance company their adjuster said it had not been struck by lightening . Many weeks went by before we heard from his company for new installation . He said he would give me a very big discount if I paid the balance in cash . I later found out I paid the exact same as my neighbor who charged the whole balance . So I didn't get a " big Discount." I have called several times for a check to be mailed for the brand new bottle of R22 that he put in his van after he had gone on the roof of my condo. He should have left it at my home . His employees had keys to my unit and my neighbors upstairs . We never got calls when they would be coming . One day the installer walks in to find me on the toilet . I had to jump up and go to the door . I was shocked to say the least . He stated that I didn't need the R22 since I had to get a whole new system but that is no reason to steal my brand new carton of R22. I am disabled and every penny is important to me . I am now going to courthouse to get a Warrant in Debt. For the cost of what I paid for the bottle . He also invited me out to dinner which I thought was very unprofessional since he said he was "happily married and was a Christian." read more

We had these guys come to our house to clean and do a safety check on a gas fireplace that wouldnt turn on in our newly purchased home. Halfway through the cleaning he said it was completely unsafe and we needed a new one, which would run about $1000. Still finished cleaning it and charged us $100. So, we waited for a year and saved up. Called Blossman Gas instead. Blossman comes in, removes a stone from the pilot light hose in five minutes and Viola! Perfectly fine. $65. He has a partner that what they call clean my fireplace while the other gentleman is sitting at the table writing up stuff that's he says is wrong with it without even looking at it himself. When all was said and done he gave ne an estimated bill of $996.00. BS! I had the gas company come to my house at 10 o'clock at night because he said I had a gas leak. Well guess what, I did not. Magic through cell-phone assistance Fred from the Freon Doctor cleaned our furnace last (2018) February and changed the batteries in the remote On/Off control and inside the fireplace receiver. Today the fireplace would not work, and a call to the Fre3on Doctor got us Fred after he finished the job he was on. He talked us through: 1) FINDING the receiver and 2) Replacing the 4 batteries inside the receiver. They stand behind their work, call them for your fireplace tune-up. read more

We had a gas fireplace pilot light which would not stay on after becoming lit at my lake house at Lake Anna VA. We called Freon Doctor and the owner (Soto) and his helper came to my house to analyze the situation. After looking at my unit for a few minutes and trying to start the pilot, they quickly stated the WHOLE UNIT needed to be replaced, and that they couldn't just replace a part on my type unit. They promptly wrote up an billing estimate to replace the unit for $1,800, which seemed awfully high to me, especially when I showed him units on my phone for sale for ~$400. Of course they did not come with installation, but geez! I did a little research on Youtube on fixing the issue and after blowing some compressed air on the pilot starter, bam, flame stayed on and unit works fine now. Cost...$0 compared to $1800. At this point I don't trust Freon Doctor to do any future work for me. read more

Bottom line up front: my experience with The Freon Doctor team was great. Been in my house for about a year and knew the fireplace was old and inefficient. The Freon Doc came over and diagnosed the problem and gave me a solution. A little more $$ than what I was expecting to spend, but in the long run it was the best option. They installed a brand new 99% efficient unit the next day - Christmas Eve! So I could have a nice fireplace for Christmas with my family. They replaced my A/C fan motor only a few years back and now it's broken, as a courtesy, I expected them to send someone to look at it and replace it at steep discounts if not for free. It's common sense, courtesy and makes for repeat business. To tell me that I'm basically SOL and I have to pay another $100 service call plus $450 for a new motor for some work mule to come tell me something I already know is frankly a business' death knell. I already had to pay $50 to another professional technician that came respectably under an hour because you failed to return our 4 phone calls over two days so save me the condescending and snarky, "are you an engineer?" sneer. Frankly, it's bad business, bad customer service, bad karma and frankly just damn stupid to try to squeeze more money out of honest people. Won a competitive battle to install two new heat pumps at my Lake Anna house in 2012 and has kept them in top operating condition ever since. Very reasonable maintenance rates. They are super busy during the summer months so as long as I schedule my installation or maintenance jobs in the spring and fall, they always meet their scheduled dates. read more

Do not use these guys for anything. I called to have them clean a gas fireplace and give an estimate on why it was not starting. Their estimate involved complete replacement of the gas system. Bottom line was a 717.00 charge. I went ahead and made an initial deposit on the parts and got a second opinion. Turned out it was a 60.00 part that needed replacement, not the entire gas system. I called to cancel the repair and get my deposit for parts back. The owner told me he would do that. That was over two months ago and I guess I learned my lesson. No check in the mail and a second call and request has turned up empty. Funny thing is they did not even clean the fireplace though I got charged for that too. Run away from these guys and do not use them. Not reputable nor honest by my experience. read more
