This week Roger and I were hungry for crepes so we went to French Press for breakfast. We each selected the same crepe with custard, banana and chocolate, topped with whipped cream. Delicious but far from a healthy selection, I'm afraid. Two complaints. The coffee and tea we ordered were served in HUGE ceramic cups with saucers--more suitable as soup bowls. Very awkward to drink from. They replaced them with to-go cups for us when asked. Also the music wasn't to our taste--a lone singer, yelling at the top of his voice. Although it was not played loudly, some simple soft instrumental would be more appropriate at 10 am, or any time. read more

When I lived in Salem, the French Press became my first stop on my way to work each day. Since moving from Salem 8 years ago, any time I am in Salem, I try to stop in and savor my favorite coffee. However, something must have changed. I have not been back for a while, but my coffee on Saturday was dreadful. No flavor, tasted burnt and horrible. I am so disappointed and won't be back. Very good quality of coffee. Atmosphere and layout of space is not very good, too crammed and non-inviting. When its busy, food takes awhile. Quality of crepes pretty good, 8 out of 10. Value is decent, as crepes aren't too expensive. Selection of food is limited, but the quality is so good, you tend not to notice. Pretty cool that you can watch your crepes being made in front of you. The baristas have always been very friendly and helpful, while the cooks tend to be reserved and suspicious of you. Weird. We really like this place. It's just down the street from our house, so we find ourselves there once in a while on the weekends. I wish that there was more seating indoors, but if you can find a spot to perch, it's a cozy, action-packed place to hang out. The service has always been wonderful, very friendly and warm. On my first visit, I tried a bagel with garlic and pesto cream cheese and it was absolutely delicious! We get coffee from there fairly regularly and 9 times out of 10 it's decent. Last time I visited, I had a sweet crepe with hazelnut spread and bananas. Very tasty.. But the coffee had a strange astringency to it that was a real turn-off. Overall, though, we've been pleased with our visits. read more

This place is my husband and my favorite date spot, and we don't even live in Salem, we live in Corvallis. Dessert crepes and hot chocolate are our very favorites though the panini's are also delicious. I love the decor and the fireplace. The servers have always been nice to us and we even had a meal comped because of weird credit card issues. read more

I stopped in with my stepmom for a cup of cocoa. The decor is lovely and the atmosphere is pleasant. For as full as the place was, it was pleasantly quiet. The employees were polite and served us quickly. I plan on returning multiple times in the near future. read more

I'm only writing this review on the drive thru portion. The inside is great! I usually go to Starbucks or Break point coffee for my tea. It's cheap & FAST! Today I decided to go to French press because I thought "Hey let's try something new" I was the only one in the drive thru line & I thought, Great this will take a minute! I had to be at work at 9 sharp. I got there at 8:47 (this is down the road from work) So it took me two minutes to figure out what I wanted & order. I pull up to the window - I don't get greeted or anything!! In fact I waited in line for 5 minutes before she said something to me. Then I waited another 6 minutes to get my 16 oz TEA! This is crazy!!! Please don't have a drive thru for drinks if your going to to take a long time & make ppl late for work! I went back to my office & told them why I was a little late for our meeting & they told me every time they go there it's always a long wait as well! Lesson learned! Stick to a coffee place where they know you & don't take long! read more

Love their coffee and crepes! Fun Paris city themed place inside :) they have a drive thru as well as sitting inside!! The sitting inside experience is better with huge mugs for your coffee and wonderfully made crepes. Emilee's Love is a great crepe and has Nutella in it. We came in for sweet crepes right at noon on a Sunday. The place was packed and we had to wait to get a table. We eventually got the Emile's Love crepe which was great especially if you like Nutella, and also the Carmel Apple which had some tart apples and sweet Carmel. The only reason I didn't give it more stars was that we had to wait so long to get seats and how cramped the seating was, but we did get seats next to the fireplace which was great. read more

The wife and I discovered this coffee when we moved to town. The employees are nice, the coffee & tea is good and there is free Wi-Fi. In the winter time they have a fireplace going which adds to the ambiance and makes feel more relaxing. I find it a good place to unwind after work. read more

My friend and I go to French Press occasionally after church for coffee, tea, and/or breakfast. Today was our 3rd visit since the City of Salem advisory was issued last month regarding unhealthy toxin levels in the water supply, and the first notice that we were given that this restaurant is still using the city water to make our beverages! While the food and drink are always delicious (hence the 2 stars), I unfortunately suffer from an autoimmune disease, a condition that grouped me along with young children, the elderly, and pets who were warned to avoid consuming the city water. While other restaurants and markets that I have been to since the warning was issued have posted notice that they are using bottled water and bagged ice, or not serving fountain drinks at this time, I found it very irresponsible and disheartening that the French Press chose not to warn us at all, posted in writing or verbally, in the past 4 weeks, and have continued to serve toxic water to their patrons. Really like going here. Good crepes. I did order a mocha once--didn't like it much, but I still like this place. I want to buy coffee beans from them sometime, because once we bought some as a Christmas gift for a relative, and on our way to their house, the wonderful smell of the beans escaped from the trunk and into the car--so good. It did have good food and coffee but that's about all that goes for it after that. Although I do understand that I went to the establishment while it was quite busy but it was definitely disappointing after waiting for more than half an hour for my food to go was just the start of it as people before us were being served left and right like the up left us. Even when my food showed up the appearance was terrible have of my sandwich was sliding off and I could tell it wasn't supposed too be like that as it was penne. As well as it was so small it wasn't even worth half of what I paid for it. So it was my up most disapproval of so to anyone who wants to even think about this place think again read more

For a place that specializes in French press and crepes, their coffee and crepes weren't great. I did get comped an extra vegetable choice in my crepe because I asked for no cheese, so that was cool! The service was decent for how busy they were, but the French press for 1 and the loaded breakfast crepe were unremarkable. I probably wouldn't come back. read more

I went through the drive-thru and ordered one of my favorites, a caramel apple crepe. I got home and opened the box, it was a turkey panini. I called because I really wanted a crepe & they answered and asked right away, "Did you order a crepe & get a panini instead." And I said yes. They were super apologetic about the mix-up (it happens!) & told me I could come by whenever and they would make me my crepe, at my convenience. This was awesome because I live on the other side of town. When I did go back through the drive-thru, they said, "Hey is this Alli?" It was good and people there were decently friendly, but it was very confusing for a first timer. You had to pick up your own coffee but not the food, and had to ask where to put our dishes. Food quality was absolutely great, and my blended coffee was as well, but my friend straight french press coffee sat long enough to brew, but it was still very weak and tasted very sour. Great place to sit down for a few hrs. We had the iced chai tea latte, it was so good. You could see the spices in the drink. Also had the veggie sandwich which was freshly made, it had avocados, spinach, peppers. So good. The loaded breakfast crepe is by far my favorite. Sometimes, I go there for dinner to get one as well. But the strawberry crepes are SO GOOD as well. My husband and I will sometimes go there just for coffee. The medium house blend is our favorite. They also have a wonderful tea selection. I love the atmosphere and am always excited when the table right by the fireplace is available. The price is reasonable. During the summer, they open up their patio. I love sitting out there with my husband, sipping some coffee and having a yummy crepe. BEST Saturday mornings. read more
