Service is excellent. The technician is friendly and is happy to suggest any thing we can do ourselves until the next scheduled cleaning.

Our pool pump was fitted with a rebuilt motor shortly after purchase eleven years ago. In the last few months the motor began making more and more noise; it was clear that the motor would need replacement soon. Our electric bill was increasing each month as well. A search of the Internet made the case for a variable speed/variable flow pool pump, so we went to Yelp.com to find a highly recommended pool professional. After we got three proposals from high rated Yelp pool pros, I called one more - Freestyle Pools - and was introduced to Nick. Nick completely explained our options and provided us with a written proposal within minutes. We liked his prices and called him to see when he could install. He said he had the pump in stock and could install it that afternoon and haul away the old equipment. A lot of firms send a tech; I especially liked it that Nick would do the work himself. As promised, Nick arrived on time and surveyed the pool equipment. I suspected that there might be a need to upgrade more than the pump. The cramped way our pool equipment had been arranged left no room to install the new pump securely (see the BEFORE PICTURES with pool piping on a cinder block and the motor hanging off the slab). Nick would need to relocate the pool filter to the rear of the slab for the pump to line up on the concrete, and after some discussion I asked about a new one. Nick said if I bought a pump, filter and chlorine generator, Pentair would extend their warranty for all three pieces for (3) years. It made sense. Nick arrived at our home at 2:15PM, and - not counting a quick trip for parts - worked continuously until 7:30PM. If you look at the AFTER pictures, you'll see that Nick truly is an artist! He managed to line up the new pump on the concrete, facilitated by a new filter taking up less space to the rear, and the new configuration works like a champ, doesn't leak a drop, and is very quiet. I like watching someone work who know what he is doing, and Nick certainly knows pool equipment and operations! We were so impressed by Freestyle Pools that we even decided to try Freestyle as our weekly pool maintenance choice, leaving a pool service we have been using for a number of years! We are not folks given to whimsical changes, but our change was demanded by Nick's outstanding efforts to go "above and beyond" to satisfy our pool needs. We certainly are proud to recommend Freestyle!! read more

Our 10 year old pool heater (Mastertemp 400) finally stopped working, and I contacted Freestyle Pools via Yelp to see what my options were. Nick said in his experience after that period of time, they are just due for replacement (which matched what I figured - I'd already replaced a few of the components myself, but it seemed like a losing proposition to keep doing that!). He promptly sent over a very reasonable estimate for a new one, and we agreed to install the day after next. Everything was via text (which is fantastic, since it's WAY easier for me to text than deal with a phone call, and it's faster than email), with Nick giving me a heads up on the day of install when he was on his way, with a picture of the brand new heater he was bringing over. The estimate was for 2 hours to install, but Nick and Frank had it installed and everything cleaned up after only about an hour. Really friendly guys, great price, and good communication. I will totally use Freestyle Pools when something else breaks. :-) read more

We were in the middle of escrow trying to sell the property and it happened to line up with the COVID-19 pandemic and Nick was great. We needed the pool to be inspected and after 8 other companies telling me no, he said he could do it as long as it was safe for everyone involved. Nick took all the precautions regarding to the virus and was able to get us the report we needed in a very difficult time. I would highly recommend Nick for any pool services in the San Diego area. read more

Nick is a life saver. As part of my home rehab to put it on the market I had to overhaul the pool and spa equipment. I called a few companies and they seemed clueless or wanted to charge crazy money. Nick fixed things (go figure) and only used new parts when necessary. Everything works perfectly and the pool has never looked better. The words that come immediately to mind are total integrity. Five stars and then some. read more

Nick was a great communicator and set us up with an automated system at great value. He was reliable, on time, and all around easy to deal with. Even after the installation of the equipment, Nick came to tune the new system a few times until I was completely satisfied. Thanks Nick for your help this summer! read more

Nick is the best! We upgraded our pump, added a heat pump, converted to saline, and added an IntelliCenter. Oh and we needed it to be done in time for a party! Nick worked his tail off and worked long hours to make sure it was done. We love our pool now! He is super easy to communicate with and is upfront about everything. We will definitely be doing more business with Freestyle Pools. read more

We discovered a leak in our pool heater on Saturday morning. That same day Nick came out to diagnose and repair the problem. He even alerted us to other issues with our setup with zero pressure or hassle. He is fair, honest, and reliable. I cannot recommend him enough. read more

About 3 years ago, Freestyle Pools installed a new pump and filter for our pool. Just past out warranty, we had a power outage and afterwards the pump was throwing an error. I called Freestyle again, and the next day, they were onsite to evaluate the issue. Nick was able to resolve the issue in short work, and didn't even charge us for a service call. Now that, is service. Highly recommended based on two interactions. read more

I am a first time pool owner after a recent home purchase. Nick did a phenomenal job teaching me how everything worked and provides weekly pool service. Recently discovered a crack in the pool which caused some water loss. He came out to evaluate, diagnose and then fix the issue. I used Nick and Freestyle pools to replace a jacuzzi pump that had been broken for a few years. He quoted me a price that he honored even after some challenges with the electric panel. Had Nick come out to replace a temperature sensor for the water. Nick was easy to contact and schedule, offering us a number of convenient times he could come. He showed up on time, was polite, professional and friendly, replaced the sensor as well as the air sensor, and even found an errant wire that needed removing. He also helped us troubleshoot an issue with our spa jets. The price he quoted was the price we paid. Freestyle Pools is now our go to company for any pool repair issues we may have. read more

Recently moved into a rental that included a hot tub that hadn't been used for 2+ years, found Nick through a handy yelp search and was delighted when he immediately answered his phone . Nick was super kind and helpful in answering all of my questions over the phone, and even walking me through how to set up the hot tub! I called him 8:30 am on a Sunday, and he picked up right away - in fact he answered his phone every time I called with questions . In the end , our hot tub needs repairs - to which Nick was kind to refer a trusted repair man . Looking forward to having Nick clean it up, once it's in working order . Thanks again for all of your help, and professionalism Nick! read more

I can't even begin to describe how professional and efficient Nick is. He is extremely organized, proactive, and digitally savvy with handling quotes and with follow up. I had my new pump installed the next business day and he followed up with an email with all of the details for getting the rebate and the parameters for the pump operation. Nick previously fixed our old pool heater as well. Same professional experience. I would give an extra star just for his work productivity and customer management skills. 6 STAR SERVICE. read more

This is the first home I've owned with a pool. Nick and his father have done an excellent job not only caring for our pool, but also educating us on pool maintenance. Nick & Frank run a fantastic family business. I was able to get a service call right away. They gave a thorough assessment of my hot tub heater, my pool lights, and determined the source of several rust spots. They started compiling repair estimates right away. They try to keep costs low but maintain high quality service and parts. I feel confident that Freestyle pools has my best interests in mind. Small, local, family business is the way to go! Nick & Frank are honest guys with great integrity. They actually took the time to explain my situation & work out a plan that enables me to maintain my system in good working order. Nick came out to do a deep clean of our hot mess of a spa. We had him do the same service 2 years ago and when it was time to do it again, I knew there was no question we would be using Nick and Freestyle again. If you need a pool/spa cleaning don't look any further. You won't regret going with Freestyle Pools! Thanks Nick:) read more

Highly, highly recommend Freestyle Pools for all your needs! As new pool owners we did not have a clue how any of the old equipment worked. Nick was kind enough to first walk us through how everything worked, and then make very reasonable recommendations on different upgrades we could make to reduce our energy bills. Aside from his clear expertise, he is just a genuinely nice person and someone we felt we could immediately trust. He installed a more energy efficient pump for us and we are so happy with the results! Thank you, Nick! read more

These guys are awesome, period. First of all, they are a father-son business, and I love family businesses. All of my interactions with other pool companies in San Diego have been "less than ideal" to put it mildly. They were very responsive throughout all of the pre-sales process and they fully educated me on how far pool maintenance technology has come since I was a kid. He showed up on-time for our initial appointment, and once I accepted his bid, he was there the next day and finished the project within an afternoon and early evening. I wanted to get a heater for our pool, since I figured out that even in our warm climate, it takes a long time for our pool to be a comfortable temperature, and I don't see the point of having a pool if you can only use it for about 3-4 months a year. They replaced my antiquated 3/4 HP single-speed motor, mechanical timer system, and DE filter with a smart easy-touch system that can be completely controlled via smart phone or PC/Mac app, a Clean and Clear filter that can be taken apart and washed myself (no backwashing with DE!), and an energy-efficient variable-speed motor that changes circulation speed based on demand (heating vs. non-heating). So far the results are awesome. We have ~15,000 gallon pool, and the heater warmed it from 68 to 80 deg in less than 6 hours while the outside temp was around 60 deg - much faster than expected. Granted, I have no idea how much gas we used to warm it, or how much it will take to keep it warmed, but with this kind of luxury you just have try it, see how high your bill is, and adjust accordingly. Nick seems to have genuine passion and love what he does and he's not afraid to nerd-out with you if you want to know all of the technical details of the system you're getting. I'm a scientist / engineer, so of course I wanted to know everything. I'm not going to say the system was cheap, but it was competitive with other quotes I had gotten. Furthermore, if I'm getting good service and have confidence that the company will be there when something goes wrong, I don't mind paying a bit more. read more

We've been using Freestyle for well over a year to service our pool and hot tub at a small condominium complex. Nick has done an outstanding job doing weekly maintenance and proactively identifying issues that are in need of repair. We've used him to re-plumb our entire pump room, install auto fill lines on the pool, and repair/replace pumps, media etc. All his work is quick, clean, and courteous. I'm so glad that I found Nick and Freestyle Pools....I regularly clean and balance my own pool, but needed a pump replaced (after it started sounding like a rattly air conditioning unit), and Nick was on it within days, giving me lots of info and options that led me to replace my 1HP WhisperFlo with a variable speed Pentair, saving me tons on my electric bill. He promptly installed it and set up the programmable schedule, so that I didn't have to do anything. Nick and Frank are a great team. Nick quoted replacing a spa light, pool light, and intalling a new heater. He priced the lights lower than my other 2 quotes and did not leave it open ended (the other quote said if electrician takes longer you have to pay more $/hr). They actually had some challenges with the pool light and it took a little longer than planned but they stuck with the quote. That is service. The installation of the heater could have been quicker but Nick and Frank wanted to do it a way that it would not impact the performance of the A/C which was near the same location. It took a little longer but it was what they knew was right. With Freestyle pools you are going to get integrity, experience, honesty, and 2 really nice guys to work with. I highly recommend them. Oh, btw, the quote came in on a Tuesday and they came out that Saturday. Frank was supposed to leave at noon for a family event and stayed longer to make sure Nick was a point that he could finish the job himself (and did). They could have easily delayed this job for a few days but did not. Glad I went with Freestyle. read more
