Closest Diner to Metro Airport off the Eureka road entrance. Just a few minutes into the South entrance, filled our bellies prior to a flight. Great Ma n Pa run business with really great food and low prices. That Potato Bacon Soup Omg so delicious, made with a rue, flour n Bacon grease like the start of Country Gravy. She had a Double Gyro Platter spot on Wonderful. Me a marvelous Country Fried Steak n Eggs filled the belly with Love. We been a dozen times, folks fill the place open till close everyday. Cruise West on Eureka a couple miles past Telegraph. Thanks for the hospitality. #freedomconeyisland #lowprices #countryfriedsteak #gyro #potatobaconsoup #diner #downriverclassic #downriverfriendseat

This rock 'n roll themed diner is a downriver favorite for breakfast. The food is consistently…read moregood, even if the same order isn't always exactly the same. For example, I get the "Hearty" breakfast most of the time and it comes with eggs, meat, pancakes, potatoes and toast, and it really highlights what is this place's strength. Eggs: I get mine scrambled and have a nice selection of hot sauce to choose from. Meat: I appreciate that they offer turkey sausage since I don't eat beef or pork, but my wife loves their bacon if that's your thing. Pancakes: quality varies the most here as they are sometimes a little pale (but still good) but more often the idyllic golden one expects when ordering. Potatoes: lots of variety here, too, as my home fries come in different sized cuts with seasoning ranging from none to "no need for salt or pepper?" Toast: Again, wide variety of choices, I go with sourdough most often If this sounds like a lot of food, there are lots of other options that make it appealing to smaller appetites. But what I like about the "Hearty" is all the choices and the variation in style (probably depends on who's staffing the griddle) allows me to order the same meal and still feel like I'm getting some variety. Having said that, keep an eye out for the specials. They sometimes are tempting enough to get me to stray from usual. In addition to good food, the service is always friendly, and we've been back enough times to where I think every server recognizes us. Like I said, it's a favorite.

The brisket was tender and the portion size is large. I plan to return soon and try one of their eggs Benedict's.

I usually stop in about once a month. Are they good for groups? Yes, indeed! I have seen several…read moregroups convene here from time to time, in addition to families and couples. The seating consists of tables and booths. The food can be ordered from the menu, and on weekends they have an all-you-can-eat breakfast bar available for a fixed rate. This location is run like a nice Mom-n-Pop restaurant. The service personnel treat you like family. I highly recommend!

I was here today for a luncheon following a Memorial Service. A private room was reserved for…read morefamily. Upon entering, the ambiance is very welcoming with a home-like casual feel. The staff members were very friendly and attentive to whatever we needed. After being served beverages, we were invited to partake of soup from their self-serve "soup bar," which included chicken noodle, cream of broccoli, cabbage, and lemon rice. I selected the cream of broccoli and can tell you that it was amazingly delicious. The flavoring was perfect and it was appropriately thick with lots of broccoli (of course) and delicate bits of carrots. A buffet was set up in our private room. There were salad makings available, with a large bowl of lettuce and separate bowls of fresh tomatoes and cucumbers. I passed on salad because I hadn't eaten breakfast and felt I needed to save myself for the entree portion of the buffet. I had chicken breast with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Salisbury steak was also an option. I was very happy with my food selections and the food was very hot. If this restaurant was anywhere near where I live, I can imagine being a frequent customer. It was the perfect choice, however, for the occasion as it was very close to the church and provided a comfortable venue for family members to offer condolences, share happy memories and enjoy a delicious meal. While I love to share photos, I didn't want to be inappropriate or obnoxious given the circumstances. Finally, I must say that there were many delectable desserts that I refrained from trying because I spent too much time in my car and was trying to limit my calories. If you find yourself in the Taylor, MI area, definitely check out Leon's Family Restaurant!!
