Well, this was my wife's and I's first time here. Crazy! We've been past here many of times and never noticed it. The food was surprisingly really good. We ordered at the bar. The Hamburgers & Onion rings cMe out got to order.. but, establishment was filthy. Salt all over the counter. The menu was disgustingly dirty, the front door was so dirty you couldn't even see thru it. But the patronage is solid. We walked in, no one there. A small unassuming local almost dive place. With the pandemic and all, I wasn't able to go inside,but walked up to the carry-out window and placed an order at 8:45 on a Thursday. I'm a Detroit native, use to greasy little onion packed sliders with a soft bun, packed in white wax paper, and these were that! Although not as good as my Local Telways- these definitely earned a place in my rotation. Buy a sack of 6 for 7.99 or a pack of 6 Cheeseburgers for 8.99. The cool thing is, they have more than just regular sliders. See the menu below. The fries are crinkle cut fries,and the chili is pretty darn tasty. They offer shakes and other items too. I've had better Coney Dogs, but it was more because of the hot dog they used, and not the bun, chili, and onions. There was no snap, and I love a snap. The pro was, they are grill cooked! I had never heard of this place before until Yelp friend Kara W. checked in. I looked it up on Google Maps and saw that it was only about a 5-10 minute drive from my boyfriend's apartment. Deliciousness, close by?? Sounds good! We tried it out this Sunday. It is a tiny little place, similar to Hunter House in Birmingham, and I'd say their burgers (sliders) are on par with Hunter House's - each one is only 2 ounces, but very tasty. I tried one burger, a corn dog, and the Chicago dog; the corn dog was delicious, but the Chicago dog was a little too sweet for my taste - I think the relish or something was sweeter than what I'm used to. My boyfriend got FIVE (yes, five) sliders and really enjoyed them. We also split a large order of fries but it was pretty small ... not sure what the small order of fries would look like, then. You can choose to either do takeout or take a seat - everything is bar-counter style. I was surprised there was waitservice there, actually, as I assumed that you'd order at the counter and then sit. Our waitress had only been working there for three days, she said, but was very friendly, and I appreciated being welcomed when we arrived and being said "bye" to as we left - a lot of restaurants don't do that. Overall for cheap eats I'd come back here. Our bill was about $15 before tip but that's because we ordered so much food (6 sliders, a corn dog, a Chicago dog, and fries). We were playing a small baseball tournament nearby and had a break in between games. Closest establishment also happened to be the highest rated: Wimpy Burger. We told some teammates we were going to go there no matter what. We ordered burgers, chili cheese fries, milk shakes and all were excellent. Amazing place. We came here today and were really impressed. Hubby had the Alamo burger and was raving about how good the chili was. He said the BBQ sauce really hit it off. He also had the little Mac with it's 1000 island dressing which he said was equally good. I had the cheeseburgers which were cooked to perfection with a side of fries. The fact that I've driven over 20 minutes to go back 3 other times since then should tell you that this place is at the top of my list. This place is not here for your pretentious and/hipster ways. This Old school place is no nonsense and straight forward with a large burger and slider menu, some hot dogs, and milkshakes. All made in a kitchen you can see from the minute you walk in, which is always a good sign. Always a friendly vibe too, between the kitchen and waitresses and customers, so it feels very small town, local neighborhood hang out. My kids are OBSESSED with the donut burger, but I'm a die hard "Boom Boom Burger" fan. Wimpy's is a cool spot, nice hole in the wall in the small town of Flat Rock, MI. Tried their All American Burger which is a decent size burger with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese. The worker in there kind of scared me a little when she mentioned to me that their burgers were similar to McDonalds. Their burgers are ok, a little too overcooked. I prefer burgers that are grilled to my satisfaction. This burger doesn't make the cut. Since I ordered for take out, by the time I got to eat it the burger became a little mushy. I also ordered onions rings with it and they were also overly cooked or fried better said and tasted heavy. Overall I was ok with it because it hit the spot because I was hungry. This burger belongs in my Burger University! This met all my great slider criteria: Lesson One - Smell The smell is fantastic just like all great slider places. I can smell them at least one block away. Lesson Two - Preparation I couldn't see how they were prepared but the presentation was great. Lesson Three - Meal Outstanding! I had the exact meal two days in a row. I had two double burgers with everything on them. A half order fries and half order of onion rings. The wrinkly fries are cooked to golden perfection. The onion rings outstanding as well. Lesson Four - Atmosphere What a great time I had. The restaurant is very small with only bar type seating along the windows as well. It's decorated with our loved one from Popeye, the namesake for which they named, Whimpy. There are also some nice automotive pictures and some old license plates back the the 40's. The young lady working there is the owners daughter and she quite friendly, very energetic and talkative. I liked the food so much I went there the next day with my Brazilian friend and he shared the same sentiment as me. My next visit, I might try the Coney and chocolate shakes as well. read more
