Best cake ever is the Chocolate Dream Cake. I'm not even a fan of chocolate but this cake is to die for! This is the only reason why we come to this bakery is for the Chocolate Dream Cake. I am taking off one start because of business hours not being solid. The owner takes off from time to time without warning and they don't always answer the phone. One day I stopped in during the middle of a normal business day and no one was there. I went to order the cake in person because I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone. The postal carrier told me the owner just comes and goes sometimes as she pleases. Interesting, but you can't argue with the amazing Dream Cake. The white cake with half raspberry and half banana filling with whipped cream frosting has been my favorite since I was a little girl! Now I'm buying this exact cake for my son and we absolutely love it. I've introduced so many people to this bakery. Everyone has loved it ranging from corporate parties to small family gatherings. Perfect example of don't judge a book by its cover. The bakery has not had a remodel in decades but the owner is so sweet and she will always make the cakes with love! I never write reviews but this business is very unprofessional. I ordered a birthday cake with pickup at noon. On day of pick up I attempted to pay with card and was told they only accepted check/cash. I looked around and there are no signs that state they are "cash only" and they have Visa/Mastercard etc signs posted all over the store (register and door). She began blaming me stating that she had told me when I ordered, however the only talk about payment we had was that I would pay day of. I asked what time they closed (thinking maybe I can go to the bank and come back) and was told within the next hour but I could go to the ATM across the street (which charges) to pull out money. If you only accept cash/check you should remove all CC signs and post a sign that states cash only! Never doing business with them again. read more

Yesterday I call and order a cake and because she had not heard about a "gender reveal" I was very specific. White cake middle cream layer the color of the gender. I'd pick it up at 4. Can I pay by debit she says no she only takes cash. 27$. My son in law arrives at 4 and the cake isn't ready. I'm now not even sure the center filling is the correct color! I ordered a cake for my dad on Thursday for Friday late afternoon-I called to confirm and I was running late but she thought it was for Saturday I was frantic and said No I said Friday by 4p (its 4:30p at this point) she said don't worry I got you be ready by 5:15p I arrived and there was our cake just as I ordered and when we cut into into it was so moist and fluffy omg everyone was raving!! Went in and ordered a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting on Tuesday to pick it up on Sunday, when the cake was picked up, we we're expecting to get a regular red velvet with cream cheese frosting and instead we got a dense dry nothing like red velvet cake and what was worse is that the cream cheese frosting had PINEAPPLE, COCONUT AND RAISINS. We were not told anything about these extras being added into the frosting and it was not only unappealing, it was also just plain GROSS. We had multiple people that were allergic to pineapple and had I know they added it to their frosting I would NOT have ordered. First off, this place is the one and only cake shop that specializes in desserts with pictures of other desserts on them. WOW. This place is awesome. I had a very specific need to get a cake with a picture of a cake on top. It sounds simple enough, but there was an additional layer (no pun intended!) of complexity... the cake in the picture on the cake needed to have on it a picture of another cake. We were visiting for our grandmother's 90th birthday and they ordered a Hawaiian cake for her. My aunt told me they always order from Freedom Bakery. Inside the piece she received, there was a metal piece of equipment, half circle shape, baked in. Family saved it and the next day, reported to the bakery. They denied this being their fault, said they don't have any equipment like that, didn't even offer an apology. Family wasn't seeking anything than acknowledgement and making it right. This could have seriously hurt Grandma! They should have stood by their work, apologized and kept long time customers happy! read more

Zero stars!!!!! Will never recommend this place to anyone ...ever. This place was recommended to me and I just can't believe this place is still in business. Had a wedding cake mad for my moms wedding. Told the owner how we wanted it, 3 layers...on pillars...the color (swatch given)...the decor on the cake was out of their book so I was confident in the fact that there would be no problems (mom is very old fashioned) The woman seemed very confident that there would be no issue. The cake tasted old, the decorations were falling off the cake (and no, it wasn't a hot room) the color was supposed to be a dusty pink and it was red when it was delivered...the cake itself fell apart when we cut it to serve. How embarrassing to serve people mashed cake at a wedding. And to have people prefer the apple tarts that were made over the wedding cake. The lady preceded to tell us that the cake was good. That she couldn't give us a proper refund (the refund she offered was pretty much the deposit for returning the cake stand + $20. She tried to make it seem like we were getting a refund) when I asked her about the color...she points to a sign under the counter glass that says something about not being able to match colors...really?!? U couldn't just say that when we came in and ordered or pointed to the sign at that time. Never again...if u want a cake that will not match your decor, fall apart before pictures are taken and crumble on guests plates and on top of that...the crumble not taste good...this is the place for u. read more

Terrible experience! I ordered a cake ($100+) for a baptism and emailed them with what I wanted to the cake to look like. When we picked up the cake they made a "sheet cake" with the picture of the cake I emailed!!! Who does that? On top of that they wrote "God Bless" in white and the cake was white, you couldn't read it! I emailed the owner to see if they could make good and she never responded. I called several times to which no one answered. When I finally got through she said that we said sheet cake with the picture of the cake.....why would someone want a cake with a pic of another cake???? That doesn't make any sense!!! You expect excellent work for the price. We were charged extra for a specific design to be printed on the cake When we picked up the cake it was not what we expected at all, lady stated the machine broke down so she had to pipe the design(which i thought was super ugly). no idea why she did this without consulting us first.the lady offered a discount on next cake we order,no not ordering from this place again so they can give me a cake with a design that looks like a beginner level baker did it. read more

The downside? East Salinas.....not a great area. Bakery is in an old building. The good? The cake they made for the birthday, was the best cake we have had in our memories. A giant step better, tastier than the cakes we have had from Costco, Safeway, SaveMart, etc. Normally, one slice of birthday cake is enough....not this cake...everyone there took seconds and wanted thirds. Cake was one of their fancy cakes....white, angel foodish cake, creams and assorted frostings, multiple fruits, cost $38 for about a 12" by 12" cake. So not cheap but seriously the best cake we have ever had with multiple flavors and textures, all very pleasing. RH read more
