Love this spot! They treat you like family, warm greetings when you come in. The food is made fresh to order. I've always had a good meal here, it has never disappointed. Was a great place foe cheesesteak. Best in the area. Delicious mouth watering Philly and great fries. So sad they are now closed.

Fred's is about the closest thing to me that I will get to a cheesesteak place up north. Not that I've ever been to one, but think about the movies and shows you've seen where all they talk about is who has the best most authentic cheesesteak in Philly. I feel like Fred's would be a part of that discussion. I crave these cheesesteaks and I love how I am always treated like a regular! Everyone is so nice and I get lost looking at all the pictures and articles on the walls. It's very authentic and homey. Try your fries with the seasoning in them, omg they are a game changer!!! read more

Good tasting food. A bit surprised that the burger was a Philly cheesesteak meat burger not a traditional/burger patty. Paid extra for double patty (double cheeseburger) but burger was only cheesesteak meat. Not advertised correctly, however good friendly service, they cooked it right in front of me. The chef walked around and personally handed me my order. Place was clean and interesting looking. Would visit again but would try something different :) read more

They've gone downhill. They now nickel and dime you to death, the food is just not worth the experience. This behavior is why I think they couldn't survive in Grapevine. Their service, nor offerings are competitive. read more

If you blink you'll miss it. This is a locally owned hole in the wall that deserves a try. Ordered the bacon cheeseburger (dripping so you know it was juicy) and it had a little kick to it. Sweet potato fries were delicious and sweet. Super friendly staff and clean place to eat. read more

This place has been around for a very long time. I've been trying to find a good Philly cheese steak since Billadelphias shut down years ago Here, I tried the Cajun fries and they were fairly evenly seasoned and had a good flavor. The Philly I got does have really good flavor and well seasoned as well. Though need to ask for Whiz next time and maybe add more to it. The bread is good, though a bit soggy. Also, wish the meat wasn't diced up so small... Made it a pain to eat in my car. First time I try something, I try to get more basic options, though They have a whole list of types of burgers that I would also like to try some time. So would I go back here? For sure. Though next time I might want to change up my order a bit to get something that would "wow" me instead of just "it's pretty good" read more

It was really good. The roll is what makes a great cheesesteak!! If you're in the area it's worth eating at Fred's. I would probably opt for the double meat on my next visit. The fries were crispy and fresh. I just regular instead of Cajun. They brought the sandwich out and asked if I wanted Fred's sauce. So the service was pretty good. read more

Been looking for a good local Philly cheesesteak. They do have Philly cheesesteaks but when we got here we saw a lot more options that we wanted to try first so we tried two different cheese-steak burger hybrids as you can see In the pic, but the authentic cheese steak is available. The Philly steak and Cheese sauce is perfect! Handcrafted soda -non-gmo -real sugar-you gotta get the root beer!! This is super good! We will be back! read more

Great Philly cheese steaks for a cheap price!! Ordered mine with extra meat it was delicious! 10" sandwich with steak, grilled onions, peppers and cheese. I wish they added more fries with the combo. It was a little bit of fries. I'll definitely return to try other items on the menu. Thank you Freds read more

Great little place with big sandwiches and friendly service. Plenty of meat and well seasoned.

Fred's Downtown Philly, if you want a better cheesesteak you might as well go to Philadelphia. First of all the service is extremely friendly. Very personable owner of this business. Talk with you like he knows you already. Which makes you feel appreciative for being a customer. Second thing, I ate the food so fast did not even have time to take the pictures that I wanted to take lol. read more

I'm giving this a 4 star instead of 5. The Philly is plentiful for 1 person. 2 is you're not that hungry. I ordered the Philly hoagie and onion straws. Careful ordering it To go as the bread will get saugy, however it was still good. I only got 4 onion straws. Felt like I got kinda ripped off but whatever. That's my reason for a 4 star instead of 5. The person who took my order was very polite and respectful though. Customer service is great. read more

Had lunch here today with a few buddies. They picked the placed as I said I'm game for anything. Apparently this place has been around for some time (20 yrs according to bio) and has 7 locations. I can't say I've EVER heard of them before today but I'm not one to seek out cheesesteak, philly or otherwise, options. The menu is vast, if not somewhat overwhelming. Without getting too bogged down in the many offerings, I decided on the 10" #8 which the menu describes as "tender steak, sauteed onions, mushrooms and cheese." All of us pretty much ordered the same thing but I got sweet potato fries while the others stuck with regular. The steak was tender but it didn't really have a notable flavor. I mean it was good but I wasn't left thinking, "Man, this has some great flavor!" I also didn't think that there was a lot of it. It's like it was spread over the bread to make it look like there was more than there actually was. For $10, I would expect better/more especially with it being such THIN steak. The sweet potato fries were crispy. But again, they weren't anything different than what I could probably get in the frozen section of grocery store and heat up at home in the oven. The mushrooms and onions kind of blended in with the meat so much so that I didn't really taste them or feel a difference in texture when biting into the sandwich and eating them. I don't know if that's good that everything was tender or bad that everything just tasted the same. The owner/cook was very nice, talkative and attentive to making sure everything came out okay and if we needed anything else. This place wasn't hugely busy but there were about 7-10 people who came and went while we were there. FINAL VERDICT: It wasn't bad but it also wasn't memorable. I'm not thinking to myself that I have to go back again because it was so good. I am curious about the wing and burger options but not enough to make a point to visit again. If I'm in the area and I don't crave anything else, I might stop in for a wing and/or burger tasting. Otherwise, there are already much closer, better options for me personally. read more

We were so happy that this location finally reopened. Although it appears they are focusing on selling burgers, their cheesesteaks are the absolute best! Customer service is always friendly and it's a real treat to eat the Philly Cheesesteaks! read more

This place is the BOMB!!! One of the best cheese steaks I have had. A hole in the wall kind of restaurant - so do not expect a lot. The menu is on the wall and has like a thousand cheese steak options to satisfy all your cravings - if you want mushrooms or chicken or onions etc. You have two choices in size - 6 inch and 10 inch. While I find the 6 inch to be plentiful, I could go in for a 10 inch once in a while. They usually have a special so ask which one it is for the day. I believe you get fries and a drink included. Try their hot sauce if you prefer - goes well with the sandwich or fries. Service is fast, food is great and the price is right. What more can you ask for! read more

My husband is from the Philly area and he was very impressed. I was just happy to eat something so delicious. He got a Chicken Philly and I got a Mushroom Philly. Meat on both was well seasoned and tender. The bread was fresh and delicious. The spicy cheese sticks were interesting. Definitely different and worth a try. Crab fries were just week seasoned fries, and I ate every one of them. The menu has so many options and choices once you taste how good one is, you know you're coming back. I look forward to trying a burger next and my husband is going for a hoagie. The only reason this was not a 5 star rating was the soda machine needed some TLC and one of the workers could have been more friendly. (The young man was very pleasant though) read more

Leave the diet and healthy lifestyle at home, bruh. This place is sooo good. The crab fries are amazing, so far I haven't found a cheese steak sandwich I didn't love. Place is clean and presentable, we arrived for dinner and ordered the original Philly cheesesteak, one 6" with sweet potato fries, and one 10" with shoestring French fries. The Philly cheesesteak was your basic grilled beef, cheese, onions on a white wheat bun. The bun was good, but I would prefer a bit toasted, the sweet potato fries were a bit too sweet. The restaurant also serves burgers sandwiches and wings. read more

I have loved Fred's for many years so it disappoints me to see a good place declining so. When I see a place start nickel and diming customers and scimping on product, the end isn't too far away. When they allowed dine-in you could fix your sandwich with a variety of self serve sauces. Now that it is carry out only, not only do they charge you for each and every sauce but don't tell you till after you get your order, then it's a $5 min to run your debit card again to purchase sauces AND there is hardly any in each container you DO buy. They aren't putting much meat in the sandwiches either. read more
