Walked in on this gem of a place by chance. Been wanting to get into the craft and was curious about the process and Fredrick stopped what he was doing to teach. He taught me a few tricks with such enthusiasm. Literally made my day. His work is also so clean, detailed, and gorgeous. Beautiful shop and the nicest owner! read more

We took a family piece to be restored and added our own touch . He did a great job and delivered it as promised

Stopped over here again to have a piece of stained that I've had for many years repaired (black and white cat) of course he did a flawless job at a great price. I also picked up another piece he created (3 leaf clover) This is just a great place for gifts or to have a special piece made. read more

I needed a custom piece for my transom. I like to use local businesses in the neighborhood and support these hard working entrepreneurs. Fred was great from the minute I walked in to the end. We measured the space and we picked colors, style and design, within a few days the piece was completed and installed within minutes. We love it, the colors pop perfectly in the morning sunlight. Fred is first class! read more

I am remodeling my home and wanted a stained glass piece to go above my kitchen door. My friend recommended Frederick Stained Glass so I went and had a chat with him. After designing a piece, he drew it out had it done in 2 DAYS!!!! The quality of craftsmanship is excellent and I'm more than pleased with the entire process. Fredrick also gives classes. Thinking of taking one after the remodel is finished. Frederick is friendly, professional and has a good sense of humor about him. I highly recommend him for any stained glass project you can think up. Reasonable prices and great service! read more

This guy is an artist. We had a bathroom project and needed some stained glass art to use for privacy and beauty as a finishing touch. My wife and I went to Fred with some general ideas - color and general theme. What Fred created for us was perfect - better than we imagined. It's become a focal point of our stairs and our kids loved it. I've not taken the classes but if I had time it would be a fun time to hear more of Fred's stories. Great work. read more

Took a class in March 2017. It was an organized class and Frederick was very knowledgeable. I did have to miss 2 classes due to a family illness. The fact I missed classes was not accepted very well and I was not accommodated at all to come in and finish my piece. I called months later to inquire about finally finishing the piece and I was told it was discarded. Not a very friendly way of conducting local business. read more

I signed up for Fred's beginner class last year and really learned a lot. I like that he does not overload the classes so he can give his attention to each student as needed. Since the class has ended I have continued to work on small projects and have been able to utilize Fred's space for a nominal fee. He gives me as much attention while there as he did when I was taking the beginner class and his expertise is invaluable to me. I signed up for the class to learn a new hobby and I am happy to have found a place that I can continue to go to for making projects and improving all while having an expert on hand for advice. read more

Drive by the shop in the evening and prepare to be awed, staring at the front window FULL of stunning glass creations. (Most of them are for sale.) Then, park the car and go drool on the shop window a little. Sadly, I drove past this shop for YEARS without stopping in. Only a near-tragedy with hundred year old art glass sidelights and a transom caused me to stop in and ask for repair pricing. Don't I wish I'd made time to stop in years earlier!!! Fredrick Redinger is a craftsman. And, he has a unique talent for teaching the basics of his craft. A lot of people who know how to do something well have no idea how to impart that information or skill to their students. Fred can and does, in four short weeks. I've taken his beginner class and now I design and build my own art glass pieces with a decent amount of confidence. Yes, I'm a fan. He has repaired and restored my aging windows, made invisible repairs to a delicate stained glass lamp I damaged, and he designed and built a double-hung window for my guest bath. I would trust him with any repair or commission (I see some incredible church and private residence windows coming and going from his shop, and sometimes he puts the newly-restored pieces in the shop window until their owners come in to pick them up.) If you make your own glass pieces, he's got a ton of supplies and sheets of colored and textured glass on hand, too. I keep telling people it's kind of like stepping into a 'Harry Potter' type shop in Diagon Alley. Maybe the wand shop. It's kind of magical inside. read more

I commissioned a stained glass window of Mt McKinley with a different artist whom I will not name here, but it was a disaster in every possible way. It was intended to be a gift for my fiancee, who grew up in Alaska. It was so bad, we ended up persuading the original artist to take the window back for a refund of most of the money. Then we went to Fredrick, who is an amazing artist. He was dogged in his attention to the details, making sure he understood our needs, and spending time with us. The window he created is so beautiful and so vibrant, we sometimes just stand around looking at it. He is that good. He's also kind of fun to hang out with and makes you feel comfortable in his shop. This guy knows his business. If I ever need glass again, he's the guy. read more

I have been raving about this place so much already! Fred is an artist, a teacher, and a wonderful business man. Fred has a passion for his work and it shows. Even before I met him, I could tell this guy was the one who would fix the 100+ year old stained glass panels. From a couple bad pictures, he could tell what the problem was and offered great solutions at a solid price!! He is always quick to respond with via email or phone. Wish there were more stars to offer this business!! Will update after the project is completed!! :) read more

Know when you find someone who obviously loves what they do AND they do it exceptionally well? That is Frederick. You walk into an intimate shop/work room and can see the quality of pieces he is working on - the most amazing glimpses of old Chicago; lovingly being restored. So, I gave him my two small stained glass windows from my apartment and he brought them back to life in a way I couldn't even visualize. He is not just a repair shop; or a classroom (he offers classes) - he is an artist who understands Stained Glass the way a painter understands oil versus watercolor versus pencil. I can not recommend him highly enough... he is outstanding. read more

I needed a reproduction of a vintage window and looked around at many stores but Fredrick was the man and the artisan I went to (and I looked around at at least 7 more places). He had completed a repair of the window I needed to have reproduced seven or more years ago and it was beautiful and such excellent work. Well the new window (which required a new design becasue the dimensions were different) is really beautiful and was completed so quickly that I was able to have my contractor in and I had my window in before Christmas and it is so beautiful and truly awesome. The price was the best and the work is great and he takes alot of time and care in helping pick the colors and types of glass needed to complete the work. I want to take classes there and fulfil a long time dream and I will soon when time is a littel less tight!! Thanks and I'll be back for sure!!! read more

Googled stained glass supplies and Frederick came up, and glad it did. Needed 6 small rectangular pieces to replace broken and faded ones in my outside scones. The wind blew my table with umbrella and it broke two panels. Anyway, we took time with me to help me pick a color and also took time to decide the best way to cut then to show off best color. Nice to work with and out the door in no time....longest process was me to make up my mind!! read more

I came in with a fused glass tile that I wanted to use as a sun catcher and I needed some advice/supplies to make a frame for it. Fred was really helpful and came (no pun intended) up with an idea that did, ultimately, work out beautifully!!! Total, friendly, helpful guy!!!! read more

I went to Fredrick's shop and brought my lamp shade in that I purchased it was from Craigslist and had a crack. He found a piece of glass that matched really well with the lamp. I am so happy that I went to him, and he did a wonderful in a short amount of time. read more

I had a stained glass window from my nearly 100 yr. old Chicago Bungalow that needed repair. Frederick was fantastic to work with. Responded to the picture I sent him and had it repaired in a matter of a few days for a very good price. He was professional and an artist. He replaced a piece of missing glass perfectly. A year later, my window is still looking great. We live on the far south side and it was definitely worth the trek up north for the quality of his work. Highly recommend him. read more

I was looking for some glass to use in a project and called around to locate art glass. Restoration places wanted an outrageous price to cut what I already owned... online sources wanted just as much for shipping as it would be for just the glass. Fredrick? Affordable, affable, easy to get to and had great suggestions. It's actually really hard to find a stained glass supply source near Chicago. He cut the pieces I needed with obvious practice. His pieces are really masterful and it's obvious that he knows a lot about glass and making/repairing lamps and other stained glass projects. Totally recommend going here. I would definitely call ahead to check hours but if it was a nice day out and I was the owner... I think I would close a little early too. read more

I'd taken a beginner class at another shop, and when that closed down, I looked for another. I came upon Fredrick's site and have been going there ever since, for over two years now. Fred is not only an excellent instructor with a mastery of technique, he has a fantastic eye for design. If I have any criticism, it's that he's only open to classes/students on Saturdays (he needs the shop free for commission work during the week). I'd be there every day if I could. If you are looking for custom work, you can't find a better artisan. He's not always warm and fuzzy, but he will always give you the straight dope on the work you need. read more

Learning how to do stained glass has been on the bucket list for years. I've been trying to get to one of his classes for some time, & finally the schedules meshed. His teaching style may not be (as one reviewer suggested) 'warm & fuzzy', but he shows you how to cut glass even if it should be curved. He keeps an eye on his students through the class, & has a full assortment of colors & textures to fill your palette. read more

I came in on Monday, hoping to find a piece of stained glass made for a kitchen renovation. I didn't have high hopes that I would find a piece that I liked, and fit the space. Fred said that he could make me a custom piece and have it done within a week, so we picked the pattern and colors and I was out the door. The VERY NEXT DAY it was complete - and for a very reasonable price. It looks beautiful and I would recommend for all of your stained glass needs. I am now looking around my home for places to put more of his beautiful glass. read more

Fredrick is a funny guy, I show up and he will help with whatever whim I'm fulfilling. He has repaired stained glass windows, cut glass for me on the spot. I love visiting his shop and looking through all the colors of glass. I used to go to a place in Evanston that has since closed, this is a great new go-to. read more
