Everyone at Frederick Subaru was incredibly nice. I can't say enough good things about my sales person, Grant Schley. He is a genuinely good guy, and very knowledgeable about all the technology and features on my new Crosstrek. The finance manager, Ed Cubahug, walked me through the financing process, explained everything evey step of the way, and answered all my questions and made sure I understood every aspect of the financing on my new Crosstrek. I was introduced to Michael Lorenzen, Service Advisor, and Tyler Biser, Subaru Technology Specialist. Frederick Subaru does an in-person tech review 30 days after purchase to make sure I'm comfortable with all the features and that I'm not confused by or have any lingering questions about my new vehicle, and Tyler is the person who handles this. I've already made my appointment for this next month. I can't praise everyone involved enough, they were all very friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and great to work with. I'm done with Frederick Subaru. I bought my 2016 Outback new from them, and it's been serviced exclusively there. They've had too many chances to earn my trust, and they spent just shy of 10 years quietly eroding it. My biggest regret is that it took me this long to realize it. On multiple service visits, questions were asked and badly answered, or just left unanswered. At 55K miles, they reported both front wheel bearings needed replacing with no clear explanation why they would fail that early, but I let them do it. Eighteen months later, they flagged the right-front bearing as needing replacing again. When I pointed out they replaced it before, they checked their records, then reported the mechanic found a loose mounting bolt, an easy fix. I had to point out from memory what was in their own records. After a later visit, I found a stray 15mm bolt bouncing around on top of the belly pan causing metallic sounds on bumps. At best, negligence; at worst, there's a crucial missing bolt somewhere that I couldn't find. In ANY case, all I could do was try not to worry. At today's 90K-mile service, they recommended replacing the front brake rotors (@$350) along with the pads. The pads needed changing, but they told me the rotors had no scoring, no warping, and were otherwise confirmed to be in working condition. When I asked why they wanted to replace them, they said, "That's our policy when we change brake pads." The service manager repeated the same thing, adding, "You have to change the rotors when you change the pads", and got defensive when I pressed further. They had no reason, only a revenue policy. Any one of these might be an isolated mistake. Together, they describe a business where quality control and straight answers fall woefully short. I talked to them more than once about my experiences and received "understanding" and assurances that were never realized. In my opinion, Frederick Subaru (Frederick Motors) should not be given your business. They're certainly not getting mine anymore, and I'm embarrassed it took me this long to decide. read more

Dissatisfied. I am a big fan of Subaru. But the service at this location is awful. The service tech made a clerical error on our warranty paperwork that cost us hundreds of dollars and tried to hold our car hostage until we paid. The writer that set up the appointment and the one that checked me out were super friendly and efficient. the tech that brought car up for me had it cleaned off and heat on including the seat warmer. After a deer ran into my Outback I had it towed to Fredrick Subaru collision center (behind Frederick Ford dealership). They worked directly with my insurance company, both initially and after additional damage was discovered. Every few days I received an text message progress report. I picked up the car today and repairs are perfect. This repair experience was about as painless as it could have possibly been and we are back to where we were before the deer hit. read more

Our kid purchased a used car from this dealership and just over 30 days later, the Check Engine light went off stranding them on the road and needing the car towed to a local repair place. The local mechanic said spark plugs and a coil were needed and the cost would be $1,500. Frederick Subaru blew my kid off, saying that it was past 30 days' warranty and that they weren't responsible for anything. Replacement spark plugs and a coil are things that should have been replaced before re-sale, as the repair mechanic said that this had never been done on this vehicle (and it has over 150K miles.) DO NOT BUY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP, NEW OR USED. The customer service that our kid was given there is sub-par...my husband was even there to help with the transaction, so they know our family AND they know that we also bought a BRAND NEW Subaru there several months ago. For this used car situation, there was no consideration that we were loyal customers. We won't be back until Subaru Frederick makes this right by us. We had a delightful, no hassle, no stress experience buying a 2019 Forester at Frederick Subaru!! Our experience started with Tanner giving us a quote of over $2000.00 off the MSRP. As a repeat customer we got a $500.00 rebate for taking out a maintenance package on our new vehicle. Roberto, our sales rep, was very knowledgeable and efficient with our purchase. We took a test drive and learned about all the new features of our 2019 Forester. We got $2000.00 for our trade in which was $150.00 over the Kelley Blue Book value. Pat and Kevin, finance agents, were able to offer us a very competitive financing rate as well as a host of added protection, value priced packages. We were in our new Forester in under two hours!!! Purchased a brand new 21 Outback that had 210 miles on it. "High" mileage was explained as transporting vehicle from origional location in PA to MD. Dealer failed to disclose that the vehicle had been taken to an autobody shop in Baltimore, where the hood was previously repaired. Heritage (which is a larger area dealership that sells Subaru's), who told me about the repair, which I was very surprised to hear about, as Frederick Subaru never mentioned it at the time of purchase. Frederick allegedly had NO record of this repair done on their vehicle (they had possession of it at the time of the repair). When I initially told Frederick Subaru about this repair, they flat out denied it ever happened. I told them Heritage gave me a paper indicating the repair. They told me to bring in the paper. I toild them to call Heritage to confirm. They refused, so I called Heratige in their presence, who confirmed the repair over speakerphone (which took place approximately six weeks prior to my purchasing said vehicle), but while Frederick had "ownership" or posession or "the certificate" of my vehicle. Frederick's service manager Pat, then stated they did not own the car at that time, they did not know about the repair which is why they failed to disclose it to me at the time of purchase among other implausible excuses. I already had some issues trusting this dealership when they kept my vehicle overnight for no reason as they did not even touch the car nor repair it-why they felt a need to keep my vehicle overnight is still a mystery to me. My vehicle was tampered with while in their posession and some items went missing. In addition, whomever drove the car 210 miles before I purchased it had pre-programmed the vehicle with a very vulgar, sexual message that would show up on the vehicle display screen, along with the radio stations that person programmed into the vehicle. I thought this was a good, honest dealership, the vehicle purchase went pretty well (for a vehicle purchase) and the salesman (Tyler) seemed nice overall. Unfortunately, the service manager's negative attitude, defensiveness, dishonest denial of the repair and then implausible explanation of the hood repair, as well as Heritage Subaru of Catonsville refusing to even give me details of the repair and the service/repair person's name, gave me great pause. I do not trust Frederick Subaru, as they mislead me and sold me a "BRAND NEW" vehicle that had an undisclosed hood repair, for undisclosed damage to this new vehicle, a vulgar sexual message embedded into the vehicle's computer system and then made all kinds of defensive and false explanations, and was basically not pleasant to deal with, nor did he seem honest. He told me he goes to church, as if that is reason to trust him for selling me a damaged, repaired "new" vehicle. Pat was extremely defensive, and seemed untrustworthy. If I wanted a vehicle that had to have its hood repaired, I would have purchased a used vehicle, and certainly would not have dropped close to 40k for this vehicle. This car was sent from Frederick MD to Baltimore MD to have undisclosed damage repaired. To add insult to injury, the body shop they used has a horrible reputaiton and terrible reviews. I paid close to 40k for a vehicle that had been repaired, and the repair was never disclosed to me nor was vehicle discounted for the repaired damage. I am no longer comfortable using Frederick Subaru for service, and honestly would like to return the damaged and repaired vehicle, to them and find a more honest and reputable dealer to get another vehicle from. The managers at this dealership are not very pleasant, (Ashley is another one who was not the most pleasant either). I no longer feel they are honest, trustworthy or professional-especially on the service end. Sad as they are close by and convenient. Perhaps it is time to ditch the Subaru all together and get another Toyota. Yet another dishonest dealership (like so many) in the area, to add to the list. Even this small, "family owned" dealership puts profits over customers, and deception over honesty. VERY DISSAPOINTED. read more

I brought in my vehicle for maintenance after the check engine light came on. The repair was for a pair of faulty sensors. However, after picking up the car the hood would not latch completely. The damage is obvious from both visual inspection and when driving above 25mph. The damage was not apparent before the maintenance but was there immediately after picking the vehicle up. read more

We got conflicting stories about what several of our cars needed from Ashley and Teresa. At one point I was told I needed a part the had a four figure price tag. The car only had 35000 miles on it so I questioned this. When I went back I got a COMPLETELY different story on what the problem was. And no one could tell me what four figure part I was told I needed. I just don't trust them at all. We are taking our business elsewhere. Such a shame. I bought our car from this dealership based on my past experience with their service department many years ago. I made it clear to our dealer Mark Goldenthal, that I was looking at Subaru cars there instead of the dealership that was much closer to us, based on my past experience with them and my Subaru years ago, and how helpful their service department was to me at the time. I will go over why they made such a big impression on me then, how this deal went, and give you some general tips for buying cars. In the past: Years ago, I had a Subaru Impreza RS. I did all my own mechanical work. I don't mean just oil changes. I mean when it was time to replace the timing belt at 105,000 miles, I did that. When I went to buy the timing belt, and the Subaru technical manual, I had questions for the technicians on some of the specifics of the install. To my surprise, he was very helpful, and even took me in the back to show me in his manual, a particular issue. When I came across an issue I didn't feel like fixing myself(back passenger wheel bearing) I took my car in there for non warranty work to get it worked on, and even though I didn't buy my car there, the service writer gave me a loaner car no problem. Not a free enterprise rental. A free loaner car from their fleet. That is more than the actual dealer I bought the car at was willing to do... Those two issue went over real big with me! I promised myself then that when I bought another Subaru, that I would try to buy it at that dealership! About this Deal: We bought a 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek. Did I get the best price on it? Probably not, but I went as far as I felt like arguing, and was satisfied with what we paid. Our salesman Mark Goldenthal was very straight forward, nice, and helpful to us. There were no surprises in this sale He didn't play any BS head games with us. The deal went as smooth as it should. It need not be a painful experience to buy a car, and this wasn't In this deal, He gave me a price. I told him I wasn't willing to pay the price he offered, but was willing to pay X for it before taxes and tags, He took it back to the finance guy, He brought back another number. I said I would be willing to adjust the number to X. He went to the finance guy and came back with a number I was willing to pay. Once we settled on a price, I asked him if Subaru had any special rates(they didn't). I told him if they could give us the rate of X, which I made it clear I could get at my bank, I would buy the car that day. They got us the rate we wanted. The Issue we did have: With the deal done, we get home and find out he gave us the wrong spare set of keys. I had him FedEx us the correct set, and in the FedEx envelope with our proper keys, there was a prepaid envelope to send back the other set. An issue that was dealt with rather painlessly. The dealership didn't loose a star, because I liked the way this issue was dealt with. To make it clear, Frederick Subaru did none of the tactics I list below, with the exception of the "invoice price". Tips: TIP 1. I don't know if this dealership does this, but most do... If you ask for financing from the dealership, they will say you are approved for a certain rate, when in fact, you could probably get a better rate from your bank. Say you can get a 2 percent rate from your bank. They might tell you that you are approved for a 4 percent loan. In this scenario they get a kick back from the bank. They might say they aren't but I have had experience with this, and checked into this. It is true. Sometime they will give you a seemingly good deal on the price of the car thinking they can make it up in the finance rate. If you don't go with their financing, the deal will dry up. Before you go in, know what rates you can get from your banks before being offered dealer financing. Tip 2. The "invoice" doesn't mean jack! Decide what the price is you want to pay beforehand, and if they can't offer you it, no matter what the "invoice" says, go elsewhere... The invoice is just a piece of paper. I can make a piece of paper that says "invoice" on it also. Next time I buy a car, maybe I'll bring one with me. Tip 3. If your salesman tries to give you some crap about not making commission, because they are known to give people the best deals, go somewhere else. Tip 4. If your dealer indignantly says something like " we gotta eat", RUN! Tip 5. "No haggle dealerships just mean you will pay more for your car. To Summarize: In general, always expect to have games played with you, and be mentally armed and ready. Now as I said, Mark didn't play any games with us. Both he and I knew our parts in the sales game. Both of us knew each of us knew our parts. We had an honest exchange, which is something I really appreciate! As someone who's not into all the technology that exists on new vehicles, Grant did one heckuva job making it something you could understand and work with. Called and set up an appointment for an oil change and tire rotation, went in and Nicole went down a list of "Oil change, tire rotation" then tried to sneak in a quick "Brake fluid change" to that, a service I didn't agree to due to the mileage on my vehicle not being high enough (I went in for a 12,000 mile oil change). I then waited 15 min. after I had seen my car roll up to the pick up point unsure that there was something else that needed to be done, because Nicole was too busy speaking to the mechanic at the desk over something inane. I was very impressed with the customer service from Frederick Subaru. All of their staff (and especially Ashley at the service desk) were very courteous and professional. After spending probably and hour or so of their time trying to program an after market key for our 2013 Subaru, they discovered that the key was defective. I fully expected to pay them for their time since the mistake was not theirs and the key not one they sold. However, they felt badly that I had driven a long distance to get there only to find out the key would not work and did not charge me anything. That's right, no charge for their time even though they were not at fault in any way. When I need a dealer for any work in the future I will definitely have it done at Frederick Subaru. read more

I bought a new 2014 Subaru Outback at this dealership last fall when my 2002 Legacy Wagon was about to go under. I had a wonderful experience and would recommend this dealership to anyone in the market for a Subaru. The service department is top notch when working with the Subaru folks. Ashely will make sure that you're taken care of from start to finish. NOTE: The Ford people tend to be a little harsh. I had recently called in to inquire about getting my tires looked at. The gentleman on the phone gave me very little of his attention as if I was bothering him by calling. I told him my issue. He said that they were booked up for appointments until next Tuesday ( I called on a Thursday) and promptly hung up the phone with no further information. For service, it is the absolute pits. We had our Subaru serviced there a few times - why we ever went back at all is beyond me. The first time, it was barely tolerable, the last time we were treated incredibly rudely. Ashley in the service area is the nastiest person - I honestly don't know how she keeps her job. While I thought our treatment was very poor, when we were in the waiting room, I witnessed her yelling at another customer across the room. I found Frederick Subaru to be the best car dealership I've ever dealt with and I've bought quite a few cars over my lifetime. I have never felt that a car salesman was truly looking out for me like Grant did. He took the time to check that my trade-in did, in fact, have an extended transferable warranty for a repair to the dash and did not have that amount deducted from the trade-in value. It was a nasty, cold, rainy day and he stood out in the rain removing tags, putting on tags and spending the time to explain several features of my new Subaru. Everyone at the dealership was very welcoming and professional. I fully expect the service team to be just as good, as it appears that this dealership truly cares about each customer and the $250 holiday charity donation on your behalf is a nice touch by Subaru. Charged us $450 for rear axle brake job after quoting $200 on the phone. Told us front pads were fine.In 3 month the steering wheel began to shake so I replaced the front brakes myself after some you tube research, and discovered someone had bent back the thin disc warning clips on the front brakes to silence their squeaking. If I was a billionaire I spend a few million just suing these crooks. read more
