I brought in 2017 Tahoe with a starting problem. The first visit they could not find the problem. I understand intermittent problems can be problematic. Weeks later I brought the Tahoe back wit the same problem. This time they said it was a hood latch sensor. I thought it was fixed. However the problem came back. I then took it to Ideal and within minutes of having it there they said a code for the steering wheel sensor had been giving a code. This code was there when Fitzgerald had the Tahoe. There is also a know issue with this part. I will not be going back to Fitzgerald. Waste of time and money. read more

Dropped off my vehicle at 7:15 am on a Friday for a scheduled appointment. Called at 2 pm for an update and didn't hear back until two hours later, only to be told they hadn't even looked at it and were "hoping" to get to it by lunch Saturday afternoon--leaving me without a vehicle all day when I could've scheduled differently. I brought it in for a rear differential issue under warranty after my mechanic found significant metal and visibly worn gears during a recent fluid service (which I also saw myself). On Saturday, I got a text just 45 minutes before closing saying it was ready--no other info provided. Picked up the next business day (Monday) due to late notice. I was charged additionally for "adding" differential fluid due to "low level" even though it had just been serviced two weeks earlier. On top of that, they claimed there were no worn gears or issues, directly contradicting what was clearly visible two weeks prior. The VW Sales staff has failed for two and a half months to provide any proactive communication regarding a Title and Registration issue for my leased vehicle. The only time I have heard anything regarding this issue is when I reach out via email or stop by the dealership in person. I have been told VW Corporate is involved, yet NO ONE has provided any information on the matter since I stopped by in person on April 3rd. On the 3rd, while I was waiting for 35 minutes during my lunch break, for what the manager said would be a short wait, I got to hear sales associates complain about customers to each other and another sales associate bark like a dog. read more

My family purchased a vehicle from Fitzgerald AutoMall in Frederick on April 26, 2025, and the experience since then has been extremely disappointing. We were told the only issue was a tire sensor replacement, but we've faced repeated problems with both the tire pressure monitoring system and the driver-side window. The tire sensors were supposedly fixed three separate times, yet the issue persisted. More frustrating has been the malfunctioning window, which repeatedly gets stuck, won't stay up, and has required multiple service visits. Despite early documentation of the problem (starting May 8), Fitzgerald refused to take responsibility, citing the 30-day mark--even though the issue was reported well within that timeframe. We were told by their service advisor that Fitzgerald doesn't work on Fords and were advised to take the car elsewhere. After being promised that the issue would be resolved, we were sent in circles. Ultimately, we had to pay out of pocket for repairs at Crouse Ford--repairs that should have been covered under warranty. Communication has been poor, promises were not kept, and the lack of accountability has been incredibly frustrating. I would not recommend Fitzgerald AutoMall based on our experience. read more

James Reed at the VW service desk is rude and sassy. First time coming to this location for service for an oil light warning on my dashboard. Simple job, I'm sure all the car needs is to top of oil but I prefer taking all my vehicles to the dealership for genuine parts and products. This guy was rude and wanted me to go back to my previous dealership for service due to my service history not being up to date in their system. Previous dealership is an hour away. Took Delivery of a new C-8 Corvette a year ago. With only 3500 miles on this weekend car, I was a disappointed that the writing on the Key Fob completely wiped off !! Instead of replacing the key fob under warranty, the dealership wanted to charge over $500 for a new key fob and programing. This is an obvious defect with the GM key fob and should be replaced under warranty. I really wanted to believe in GM, but they need to stand behind their products because quality matters. Thankfully, I never cranked it, so I just needed to drop the fuel tank, flush out the fuel tank (get all the gas out), and maybe even replace the fuel filter. So I towed my truck to the closest dealership, Fitzgerald Chevrolet Frederick. HUGE MISTAKE. Tom in the Service Dept., who, according to another service employee, "has been working there forever," wants to charge me 7 hours of labor ($150/hour) plus some other fees for a total of $1060 plus gas. 7 hours of labor?? Are you kidding? But I never cranked it!, I explained. All you gotta do is 1) drop the fuel tank, 2) flush out the fuel tank (get all the gas out), and 3) maybe replace fuel filter (even though since I never cranked it that isn't even necessary, but I'll still do it). Tom wouldn't budge. Tom was in full blown, I'm gonna screw you mode. So you're going to charge me 7 hours for a 3 hour job. So basically, I told him, you're charging me over $300/hr for labor. Stereotypical dealership practice. But you always hope "this dealership" is different, "this dealership" actually cares, "this dealership" won't screw me over. Smile when you sell them a truck, then screw them each chance you get when they need service. I guess Tom thought he had me. This guy already had his 7,000 pound truck towed here. What's he gonna do? Tow it away? Tom, that's exactly what I did, you scumbag. So I towed my truck again (thanks Fitzgerald Chevrolet!! Really appreciate it!!!). The local mechanic referred to me by a friend charged me for 3 hours of labor ($99/hr) and all was good. They dropped the tank, cleaned it, I bought a new fuel filter because I wanted to. I travel quite a bit and periodically have the check engine light come on. I go to the nearest VW dealership ANYWHERE in the USA and ask the service department if a tech could quickly plug in and tell me the code. This way I can decide if I can make it home for service or if it's an emergency and I shouldn't drive at all. Well, normally they send a tech right to my car, no big deal. Let me tell you of my experience at this service department. I was told that they would not look at anything quickly and that the service tech notions won't look at anything unless they are paid, and if I were to pay and wait to get the error code, it would take no less than one and a half hours. ARE YOU F'ing CRAZY!!!??? I left and of ANY Volkswagen dealership in the USA, this is the worst experience and treatment I've ever had. To be turned away I'm under 30 seconds because they couldn't just check the error code and tell me if it's an emergency or not because I need to wait 1.5 hours and pay them. Thanks for your help. I called King VW in Gaithersburg, MD... They said they take care of me. Avoid Fitzgerald VW at all costs. UPDATE: drove to KING VW in Gaithersburg (~25 minutes) and in under 5 minutes they read the error code for me. It's not a major issue so I'm on my way, and they didn't want to charge me $99. Not matching Allstates extended warranty hourly rate or their determined hours for warranty coverages places a negative association with the dealership there. It definitely makes up my decision to never desire to purchase a vehicle there if being that stingy on every repair is a common theme; actually pushes me to do the opposite of referring people and providing positive recommendations. The idea is to work *with* the customer, not against them. Not to mention you guys have one of the highest labor rates around. On top of that to include two additional uncovered hours because of a factory lift. Each dealer in the area has a lower hourly rates and the single one that was the same as yours said, "..of course we'd match the insurance companies hourly payout!"--Which is more than fair at $153/hr, especially for Frederick, MD! The tech at Fitzgerald told me he's got to eat too. We are talking the difference between eating at Dutches Daughter or Ruth's Chris. We all eat, it's how well we are talking. I took in my suburban for an oil change and a recall was announced by the service manager, great guy , great service by him. Great people , good place for all your care services. But the next day, I had an engine light that surfaced after recall program, seemed like it was a wrong data entry to say, it has taken a whole week to reprogram the faults caused. Let's say it's technical! But Now, Issue is am in transportation and I lost almost $3000 worth of work. which is so frustrating . Be very cautious with the service department here. They will try to up sell you or just do things that you didn't ask for. The dealership is convenient to me so I used them for about 5 years while I had a VW and Mazda, but I had to argue with them about unneeded or unwanted services on a regular basis. They got rid of some especially problematic advisors, so I recently tried them again on a major service. Different people, same antics. The service manager gave me a $50 credit for doing work I didn't ask for (thanks) but that doesn't solve a systemic problem with that dealership. I've never had issues with the service itself. So I purchased my Cadillac XT 5 Premium Luxury model 4 months ago from the Frederick in Cadillac. The sales guy, Brian was attentive and helped me during the transaction, that took about 5 hours from start to finish. I understand that sometimes going to a dealer and buying a car can take several hours due to the financing options and signing of paper work. Well, after we purchased the car, Brian told us that our first oil change and check up with Cadillac was covered, he also gave us a card that stated this. Fast forward, 4 months, I call Fitzgerald to make an appointment with service to get my car checked and to do the oil change, and they mentioned yes bring it in. I get to the Service desk and it was almost like bait and switch, they stated no the oil change is expired, go and try to talk to sales to get them to cover it. We speak to the Sales Manager, Mario Myers, and he states that the oil change is not covered because the offer expired 4 days ago. We were told that first oil changed is included under service agreement. Well then my wife speaks with the manager and states that we just purchased the car 4 months ago for 60K and the manager, Mario Myers, proceeds to say "no these cars are 35k, that's what you paid"...and "no we will not cover the oil change." At this point, we are just appalled with the customer service, I go to the manager to look up how much we paid for the car because if you are telling me my car is worth 35K then we definitely over paid. He proceeds to look in the system and say yes you paid over 60K and "no we will not cover your oil change." So this review is about the VW service staff. Please do not use this business for VW service; very unprofessional!! Their sales staff, on the other hand, seems to care about their customers and is actually helpful, despite the service department's inadequacy. I brought my car in on a Saturday at 09:30 for an oil change, headlight bulb change and to check the engine light. Never received a call from them for over five hours, so I had to call around 2pm and check on the status of the vehicle. Their service rep explained to me that they just received the report and told me what the engine light errors meant. I declined the service but asked them to change the oil and the headlight bulbs. Sales rep agreed and hung up the phone. I called again around 4pm and was told by the sales staff that the maintenance department was closed, and I could not pick up my car until 0700 am on Monday!!! Meanwhile, after deliberating with the sales receptionist for a while (their sales department is actually very nice) they are currently trying to locate my car, and maybe even trying to find me a loner so I can make it to work in Monday (I work 0600-1400). Very disappointed in their service!! Their service reps should probably find a different career... preferably one that doesn't deal with customers!!! So I am getting legal counsel! read more

I referred my nephew to this dealership because I had an amazing experience with Matt my salesman. Matt sold my nephew his car and as always waa great to deal with. However my nephew's new car experience was completely ruined by Nancy Wilkes the Finance Manager. She was rude when he called me to get my opinion and was extremely rude to him. She didn't like the fact that he didn't want to rack on all.the extras dealerships try to sell you. She was so rude that he almost canceled the deal. I loved woking with these guys! I walked out of my visit with a used 2017 Volkswagen Passat, which is exactly what I walked in with the intention of buying. Here's how the experience went. When I first arrived, I was greeted by salesman Bruce Engle. Bruce was approachable and welcoming and was quick to bring the Passat around to the front so I could take it for a test drive. They let me test drive it on my own, which I found refreshing since most dealerships insist on riding with you. I immediately fell in love with the car and knew I wanted to purchase, so now it was time for the negotiating fun to begin. I needed the price to come down by about $400 for it to be within my price range. Bruce told me that Fitzgerald does not normally budge on the price, but he allowed me to speak to his manager, Rob. Rob reiterated that he could not lower the price, but did offer a ton of incentives including free Shell gas cards and he even threw in the Fitzgerald Buyers Protection Plan for free (usually a $695 ammenity). With that, I was sold. I then met with financial manager Zach Sherman to fill out all of the paperwork for my new vehicle. Zach was incredibly thorough and helpful throughout the entire process. I enjoyed speaking with him and he gave me some helpful advice on how to handle financing my new car. Finally, I met David Harrison, one of Fitzgerald's Volkswagen specialists. He spent at least 15 minutes with me outside and inside of my car, explaining each feature in detail. This guy was so knowledgeable I could barely keep up with all of the features he was showing me! Very personable and easy to get along with. All in all, I thought the Frederick Fitzgerald was a great place to purchase a vehicle. When I went to look at it, it had 0 scratches and was perfect outside... yet, when I went in to sign papers... the car was all scratched up. When I let them know, they did agree to fix it. When I went into the room to talk to financing, they had no clue about the agreement and had to write it down. I find it very irresponsible and a lack of communication... Costumer service was okay. The one person who did help me was really kind and tried to help as much as possible. When I picked up my car from being fixed, I received it which a giant scratch on my tire... they claimed it was not their fault and it was probably me? Got a good price at the Mazda dealership in the 'mall' but a disorganized experience. Had issues during the purchase and delivery process. Communication is very spotty. Had issues with the temporary tags The navigation system in my car requires a proprietary SD card which wasn't installed or even offered. Only reason I found out it was missing was by looking at some of the features that were disabled in the car. I believe if I hadn't asked for it, I would just be driving the car without those features. The car had locking lug nuts included in the window sticker but they weren't installed. At least in this case, they were in the car so I was able to install them. Not so with the SD card. Salesman offered to deliver it to my home which was nice but then didn't show up on the day promised - no email or call saying not coming. Everyone there seems to be friendly and helpful but maybe they are just very busy or maybe toward the end of the year they have a lot of deals rolling in. I'd still buy from them - just not my best car buying experience. A few tweaks and it would be perfect. read more

I saw a Jeep Grand Cherokee. They said it had gone through a 138 point inspection. But the brakes failed and the exhaust wouldn't pass MD inspection to register. "But it's for sale. Surely we would be taken care of is what we thought and that turned out to be true for the purchasing process. We are honest and hard working people. We decided to give Fitzgerald our business in purchasing a used 2014 Ram. This truck had just under 40k miles on it and the test drive was as it should. Fitzgerald worked with us on the paperwork process which earns them a gold star. After a few days of owning the truck it developed a sputter. We notified Fitzgerald and they check the vehicle over with no duplicate results of our complaint and referred us to a Dodge dealer. The referral proved fruitful indicating a faulty torque converter however in replacing this fault the mechanic noticed a crack in the engine . Our repeated efforts to contact a used car sales manager at Fitzgerald has failed. Luckily for us we did purchase a warranty which covers all the repairs. It's been three weeks now our Ram has been in the shop and not a single Fitzgerald representative has return our calls. Just to add a topper to it all they didn't even let us know that our vehicle tags had arrived at the dealership. The purchase took place at the beginning of August 2018 it's now October 13, 2018 and our truck is still in for repairs. Since owning the vehicle we have done no towing, hauling, or abnormal driDefinitely use caution in making a purchase from Fitzgerald. Update, Rob did call me a few days after this review was posted. Rob provided me with his direct contact of which I have yet to use being that I had been very involved with checking on the repairs to my truck. I gave the vehicle to my Son and three grandkids ages 9,6 and 18 months. Within 4 months the stainless steel brake broke. The mechanic we took it the vehicle told us W should not drive this vehicle. The motor mount were completely rushed out, the brake line system was rushed out. There were numerous other high risk issues with the vehicle and the could cause damage to the vehicle or my grandkids in the vehicle I talked to Fitzgerald about these unsafe conditions. They told me the vehicle was sold as is... no where on the sales slip stated the claim. I showed them the pictures and they still did not believe me. My son took the vehicle to A Fitzgerald dealership. They said the vehicle was unsafe to be on the road. We paid 18.5 for the vehicle. Fitzgerald offered me 15.0. I wanted the whole value I paid. They would not. I settled at 16.0 . I asked Fitzgerald to pull the tags off the and send them to me. Fitzgerald told me they lost my Maryland Tags. This is the second time I have brought a vehicle in for service at this place. The first time I came in Kim was very disrespectful and rude to me. It was a terrible experience. I brought it here again thinking that I could work with someone else. This time I got one of the service managers. My check engine light was on and so was my drivers side airbag. He told me that it would be $148 to look at it to diagnose what was wrong. He said that the multi point inspection that they did would cover the airbag issue I was having. He comes back with over $5000 in things I didn't even address. He told me that it would be another $148 to look at the airbags. They just need to be adjusted so I can past inspection. I cant believe they treat customers like this. This is my daughters car and I am concerned that there multi point inspection doesn't even cover safety concerns. Why would I ever buy a car from here? First of all, this is officially a 4.5 out of 5.0 (star) review. Everything didn't go perfect, but there was a lot that went right, and my case was an unusual one. I had email and text alerts set up for a very specific model, trim, features, color (and of course, price) Corvette. Fitz MD Received one in stock and I called within 15 minutes of the post going up. I live in Florida (I'm sure it seemed suspicious), but they did provide me with insight and pricing, and it was already an awesome deal. I told them to "lock me in" but through some unfortunate miscommunication, we lost about a day and another buyer nearly was able to buy it out from under me. In the end, my sales rep (Brian) and a sales manager (Jamie) got a "sold" tag on it and even helped me with coordinating logistics to my state. Tax tag title and everything was handled seamlessly, minus a temp tag not being sent (was not needed anyway). Too bad I can't give a "no star" because my experience was so bad with their service department they deserve none. They gave me a run around, over charged on the service they did do and I think basically lied to me. I will NEVER put my car in their hands again. In fact I am taking my car to another service provider because I do not now feel safe driving it -- after they did whatever they did do. read more
