What I do not appreciate for the cost: the cold fish salad of octopus, shrimp, muscles: w/ the takeout quart size order: more than a 1/3 of the container is the marinated juices, yet the pricing is high. If Freddy's wasn't so far from me, I would honestly eat here every day! Really good Italian food being served here. This was a place we couldn't just stumble upon because it's not in our neck of the woods. My boyfriend saw a video about and we learned the origin of the restaurant and how long it has been opened. Just a cute story on how he met his wife as well too. Here you have your pizza, pasta, and gelato to end your mail. Not 100% sure how an Italian homemade meal is exactly like but I would want to compare it to this type of atmosphere. There's an indoor and outdoor dining as well. Freddy's is so much more than pizza. It is a deli/grocery/diner that you have to experience to appreciate. I wish I was lucky enough to live local, I'd be there once a week. There are so many wonderful things to try. I was having a party with 28 people. I brought home Italian beef and l'arancini. The beef was so tender and perfectly seasoned. Probably the best beef in the city. I am a huge fan of the l'arancini, (cheesy rice balls) too. Call a couple days in advance if you are ordering a lot of food. Long live Freddy's! I'm embarrassed to say that this had been on my list of places to try for a decade. Now, I deeply regret having wasted all the time I could have been gorging on amazing Italian comfort foods. My wife I and split a sandwich and the biggest portion of chicken parmigiana I have ever seen. We ate half and took the second half home along with one of their premade cheese lasagnas in their refrigerator case. Great red sauce. We finished with some terrific gelato. Funny, I've eaten at Freddy's Many times, but never had the pizza: been too busy eating the chicken limone, arancini, sauteed greens, timbale, eggplant parm, and of course the many house-made gelati and sorbetti. All excellent. Also a good place to pick up a nice loaf of pane Italiano and salumi. By noon the joint is jammed (mostly by Berwyns Finest) so try to get in early, or later in the afternoon. The owners Ann and Joe are the nicest most respectful people I have ever known and I have been eating there for the past 20 years. My favorite item is the Italian Submarine Sandwich, but I recently discovered the Rigatoni, sausage, and peas in bolognese sauce. It is phenomenal. The service is great. It is sometimes crowded but it is worth the wait because when you get a chance to tase the food, I have never had a bad experience. Freddy's Pizza is an institution and the hundreds of thousands of customers who have been there over the years are a testament to the greatness of this neighborhood bakery where you always get fresh food, courtesy and respect from the owners and the hardworking staff that puts up with everything. Got some pizza, which is good, and that's it. Don't do what I did! I later discovered the gnocchi in vodka sauce, which are pillows from heaven in this not too heavy but luxurious sauce. I make sure to serve this any time I have guests bc everyone is in love with it! I then discovered the meatball sub with giardiniera. Huge and delicious! Today, I discovered they make pizza capricciosa (prosciutto, artichoke, and olives). It's not on the menu regularly, but I got lucky after seeing the sign in the door and asking. The pizza slices are huge. The sauce is simple, delicate, and exactly what you want. The calamari pizza is a nice treat as well. I haven't actually tried anything I don't like, and I usually spend all the cash I have on hand even though it's close to my house and I could just get what I want and come back. It's truly an exercise in discipline! My staples are the gnocchi in vodka sauce, a 1/4 pound of the house made prosciutto (I put it in cantaloupe to recreate my trips to Italy), and I try to alternate between the meatball sub and pizza. Run don't walk! It gets busy, but the line moves quick, and the staff treats you like a regular from your first visit, probably bc you can't help but become one! One of my clients brought me here on​ September 12th. I was blown away! Freddy's is located in Cicero, on the corner of 16th St, and 61st Ave. You walk into the small grocery store, and immediately feel hungry! There were tons of people in line for food, but the line moved fast. I guess I'd reluctantly call it: "cafeteria-style​". But don't let that scare you away. Much of the food is pre-made, but they move it so quickly, it doesn't have a chance to get cold. I ordered the chicken marsala, and it was quite possibly the best I've ever had. Love Freddy's. It is small inside, and you go in and to a line that wraps around the aisle to the counter, but the food is worth it. If you want just a slice of pizza, you can go in and right to the counter. A slice of pizza at $3.00 is a lot of food! You can also skip the line if you are getting only gelato. Freddy's has the smoothest, creamiest gelato I've ever tasted. The pasta is amazing, the chicken is to die for and the $6 meatball sandwich really is 2 meals. They will ask if you want your food heated to eat then and there or if you are taking it to go, and want to heat it up later. No menu, but salads and sandwiches are written on the wall. Pastas and chicken change but they always have something delicious. Street parking. Indoor and seasonal outdoor seating. Very casual. Your pasta is served on a paper plate if dining in. I have nothing but love for this place. I grew up on the same block as Freddy's and have so many fond memories of getting pizza and Italian ice here as a kid. The staff has always been kind and courteous and the Italian owners really set the tone for that familial feel. I remember going into the small shop as a kid and hearing them speak Italian and they'd go back to Italy every year to visit family. Their business has exponentially grown since those days and they've added more space to their storefront and hired more employees, but it seems the 'Freddy's feel' is still there - along with the amazing smell as soon as you walk through the door! Now let me get to the pizza... I have yet to try a pizza in Chicago that can compare to the delicious flavor profile that Freddy's pizza has. By far my favorite pizza in Chicagoland; and at my age as a pizza lover, I've had my share of pizzerias in the city and the burbs. The gelato and Italian ice are equally delicious, and if you ask, they'll let you taste it before you commit to a flavor. Yes, they are cash only but that doesn't bug me. What should be an immediate disclaimer is that this place only takes CASH money. They only let you know that their place is cash 'only', when you are at the cash register itself. The food here is of amazing quality though! Whatever they cooked looked like 5 star restaurant quality, and that makes sense for a restaurant that makes homemade food from scratch. We had gotten some pasta that was wonderfully tender with creamy orange sauce and savory homage sausage! The pizza was what we came here for (as we were recommended by a friend). That was of great quality too, but it is a bread-y kind of pizza. The atmosphere of the grocery store and sit-down is warm and clean. They don't have any bathrooms for the customers.
