The restaurant has indoor seating and a patio that was really cute. We were treated like royalty. Our server was a joy! Our water glasses were regularly filled. We both started with cocktails that we enjoyed. They provide a focaccia bread with buttery olive oil and Parmesan spread that was yummy. We split multiple tapas to start. The scallops were outstanding. The flavor was delicious with a great texture. We also had the spicy potato and crab cake. Both were good portions for tapas. I enjoyed both. We then split the salmon dish special that was stuffed with shrimp. Perfection with spinach. We ordered the tiramisu and were given a complimentary passion fruit custard. I liked both equally. The tiramisu is made with a different type of soaked cookie and the passion fruit has an amazing flavor.

Our Patas Bravas dish did come out a little late so we were not able to enjoy it as much since we were getting full, but it tasted heavenly with the dipping sauce. Chef Gabriel's food is creative and delicious. His brother-in-law Jose, I believe, is the one behind the great cocktail list and making housemade aperitifs. The four of us shared two appetizers. The tuna tartare - chopped tuna on top of creamy avocado surrounded by crispy capers and quail yolk. It was served with homemade potato and vegetable chips. We also shared the goat cheese - creamy melted goat cheese sitting in a pool of tasty marinara. This was served with grilled baguette pieces. This appetizer could use more of the baguette as we ran out of bread and still had goat cheese left to enjoy. For dinner, my sister had the gnocchi with braised beef, short rib, spinach and mushrooms. I know this dish was delicious because this is what my husband ordered the first time we dined here. My two cousins had the chicken limone and said it was very good. (I have my eye on this for next time ). I opted for the branzino which was moist and served in a delicious lemon caper sauce. I would like to see a traditional pasta with marinara sauce on the menu. I think that would be a great addition for clientele who are into the traditional instead of the creative and unique. There was no room for dessert, but shots of limoncello came to the table. So sweet of Divino. Let me tell you the limoncello was amazing. Luckily, I was able to buy a bottle of this housemade limoncello. Since the four of us were raving about the limoncello, right before we walked out the door Divino gave us a tasting of the housemade pistachio cream. Omg! So smooth, creamy and divine. We enjoyed our conversations with the chef and his brother-in-law, the other owner. Great guys who care about their customers and restaurant.

We ordered Crispy Octopus and Ceviche to start. Followed by Branzino Alla Aurora, Short Ribs, and Fettuccini Alfredo. All had lovely presentations and each cooked to perfection. We had a taste of each other's plate and we all agreed each dish had outstanding flavors. Simply delicious! The food exceeded all expectations. I can go on and on. Highly recommend! The next was a late night dessert and limoncello run (more on that in a second). The third was today (8/23/2026). The first time, it was clear that they were working hard to make a name for themselves. We talked to the owner and the chef and they were awesome. Similarly the food blew us away. So food, so friendly and just a great time. Not too long after we were walking down Maddison and stopped in for a dessert and drink. Now we learn that not only are the desserts amazing but they don't just have limoncello, they also have various other cellos! Pistachio and coffee are excellent, but check back for more! Tonight, we walked in and sat outside. The staff were amazing. Very attentive without hovering. Impeccable service! And their recommendations in the food, wine and desserts was spot on. We shared appetizers (calamari), mains and dessert, all of which were just as good as when they opened, maybe better. River Forest had a ton of great bar and grill places with good food. The restaurant is teeny, tiny. The are 2 booths, one on each side of the wine cooler. 2 adults cannot sit comfortably on one side ~ 1 adult and 1 child is the max. Also, at the booths, the table is very far away from the bench. You have to move forward to the front edge of the bench to eat over the table. They are a BIG miss ~ so I recommend avoiding them. However, the rest of the tables are on top of one another, so do not expect to have a private, quiet conversation, while not being bumped by a server or someone trying to leave their table. Saturday night was packed with people waiting, standing right over the tables closest to the door. I know nothing can be done to accommodate as many diners as possible. Do not expect the usual Italian meal. Do not go hungry because no one leaves with a doggie bag. A side of asparagus consisted of 4 small spears for $10. A lot of fish on the menu. New to me, balsamic drizzled on top of your vanilla gelato as dessert. The "special" guava cheesecake was special because it consisted of pastry shells with whipped cream not a forkful of cheesecake to be found. Food was good, service was excellent, most interesting interpretation of Italian fusion.

If you can get past that part, Freddy's is a must. Solid subs--we did an Italian and a meatball--and the gelato/ice cream situation is ridiculous. Be sure to check your visit timings; for example, right now they are closed for a two-week stretch, I assume for staff vacations, and the hours are limited, because they are an Italian pizza/sub shop and like the ones in the city, they are not open late. But I like the back patio to extend eating space in the summer time, and people can usually move through quickly if they are just ordering the basics. The shop, featuring loads of Italian sundry goods and pasta items, works too...for those living near Freddy's that are missing spots like Bari or the other sub shops on Grand, or The Italian Store in the DC area, Freddy's checks every box.

Crab cakes were so insanely good as well. They charred them a bit truthfully, but I honestly preferred them that way. We also had the pistachio tiramisu affogato and oh my gosh was it SO yummy. The espresso, the pistachio gelato (ice cream?) whatever it was, it was gone in seconds. I also really appreciated the size of the restaurant. The noise wasn't absurdly loud, the music was at the perfect level, and the lighting offered just enough at you needed. It left staff attentive without smothering. My only criticism was that the glass of wine we received had pieces of cork in it. They swapped out the main glass at our request but left carafe which also had it in there. Not the end of the world, we just didn't drink it. Also, the price was so reasonable! We had a glass of wine, mocktail, crab cakes, pasta, pizza, tiramisu and a cup of decaf for under $100. I was extremely impressed and already looking forward to our return!
