Finally made it in (with cash this time). Looks like and is a neighborhood Italian Deli/ grocery store / Pizza joint/ Gelato shop! Friendly staff and service is spot on! Had to decide what I wanted to try. Ordered the Italian Prosciutto "Sangwish" ordered the traditional hard roll crust. Did not disappoint. Next visit (With Cash) I'll try their Pizza selections. Mangia, Cheers & Nazdrowie!

Love love love this place! The only thing I wish I could change is it being CASH ONLY because we hardly ever carry cash and we usually want all the things. We walked out today with two arancinis, a packet of 10 frozen meatballs, and a hearty beef lasagna. The server was nice and threw in some bread. Total with a small tip was $40. We did NOT get gelato or at least one slice of pizza but that's what we would have done if we had more cash. The staff is friendly. Be prepared. We went at 530 pm to beat the crowd but there was a good group of peeps who had the same idea. We enjoyed 2/3 of the lasagne when we got home after a quick reheat and supplement of some garlic bread. Tomorrow we'll have the arancinis before the steak I plan to cook up. BB will enjoy any leftovers for lunch later this week. Staff is friendly. Stop at the ATM so you can get all the things.

Freddy's has been around since the late '60s, and the place is 2-fold; one side of the building is your typical Italian mart with meats, pastas, pies, and desserts, while the adjacent space is a 'dine-in' area. We came here for an early lunch, and we ordered: +a Suppli - a rice ball filled with spinach and cheese; this was a little too bland for me, and more rice-filled than the spinach and cheese +Gnocchi - ricotta cheese-filled gnocchi in a vodka sauce; while the gnocchi was pillowy, it was a bit overcooked, so it was too mushy; wasn't a fan of the vodka sauce +a slice of a a margherita (thick crust) - just too bread-y; this was just okay +and, a slice of a sausage (thick crust) - more on the saltier end due to the sausage; crust was just okay I did like the fact that they heat up items for you, and they do come out piping hot. Staff were pretty friendly and helpful, and they're pretty efficient. The place itself is cute, and I liked looking through their small market area. The place is definitely a popular spot, as people kept coming in to get food to go, get food to eat next door, etc. +friendly service +street parking available

I was in the area and needed my Freddies fix. The food is homemade and I have never been disappointed. My tip is to come early, parking and seating is limited.

This place is the bomb. Everything is excellent. That's the one problem, you walk in and order right to left. I have missed so many things because I ordered so much already. Like the pizza it's far left. I never tried it. Freddy's is a hidden treasure. It might be in Cicero but it's a Chicagoland gem

With real deli's Italian or otherwise you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere like Freddy's these days. Tucked away on a non-descript Cicero residential street corner Freddy's harkens back to the old days when men were men, sheep were sheep, and deli's were deli's. Everything about it is old school neighborhood deli. The ambience is s real and not manufactured. That's probably because the owners and employees most have of whom have been there for double digit years are real as they come. They scream customer service, neighborhood true and 'we take no bullshit'. They make it the real deal. I remember during covid their strict adherence to health rules for the safety of their employees and customers alike. The owner could come out and enforce the six people six foot apart rule with an iron fist! It shows they care. The care also shows their offerings. FRESH pastas and numerous other dishes like cutlets and Chicken Parmesan, sausage n peppers and homemade soups just to name a few set out in front of you and prepped with live. Even their namesake homemade pizza by the slice is exceptional. The dish's they offer would cost you a pretty penny elsewhere. Sure you can go get a few things for a few cents less in some other joint but bit will be nowhere near the quality Freddy's offers. Nowhere near! In the small grocery store shelves stocked with imported and homemade local Italian staples and delicacies you will find no where else. Fresh name brand quality deli meats and cheeses and bakery fresh breads like pepperoni bread and soft Italian loaves. Not to forget the variety of homemade sausages and hard salamis from Calabrese to other regional delicacies. After dinner in one of their two enclosed patio rooms one heated for chilly days and one screened in for warm summer breezes don't forget to try dessert. The gelato bar and pastry offerings and outta this world! All of this fits nicely into one room smaller than most Chicago 'frunch rooms'. Bring cash as wisely they are cash only. Every dime you spend will be well spent and I guarantee you WILL be back again! I'm not a side note a must try is their fresh mozzarella better than nonna can make. Don't miss out on this place it's worth the trip and the surprisingly small wait. They run a tight ship and get lunch goers in and out.

Large portions, very affordable, nice staff. They also have a variety of Gelato that is very reasonably priced

I used to come here AT LEAST once a week when I lived/worked in the area and will sometimes make a trip just for a cup of their world famous gelato, or to sink my teeth into one of their sandwiches or bite into their homemade lasagna. I would usually rotate between their breaded pork tenderloin , meatball and Italian Beef sandwiches, and would always get a slice of their pan pizza with it. All four are delicious and reasonanbly priced There is also a dining area off to the side and ample parking on the street read more

As a first time patron, Freddy's is a little over whelming. Its hard to figure where to stand and how to order. They do not take credit cards and the eat in option is next door. With that being said, the food here is nothing short of amazing. My wife and I were referred to this place by some clients whom we are helping buy a home. Needless to say, we will be back. Truly a hidden gem! read more

I was new to Chicago last year. My GF found this little gem on a whim and a Yelp gamble. It sure paid off. The service counter is kind of small. There are a lot of staff and they don't seem to mind squeezing behind among their co-workers. they're all super helpful and friendly. The food is great! I get a little crazy and over stimulated seeing it all right there and wanting everything offered. It seems that we end up buying more and more grub each time. I heard they got a considerable Italian Beef but I haven't tried it yet. Their tomato sauce is outstanding, they even sell jars of it as well as their own Giardiniere. (Prolly spelled wrong, whatever). I always get the ravioli. The sauce includes big slices of garlic as well as cooked cherry tomatoes. The pizzas that I've tried have always been awesome. I cant recommend this place enough. read more

Omg I'm so happy I went to get some food today. Gnocchis stuffed with ricotta cheese &vodka sauce is so good. Meatballs with marinara sauce (omg) and sausage peppers & potatoes, such a treat today! I also got the Italian deli sandwich, it's such a true Italian sub. Today this really hit the spot! read more

This is a review of different things at Freddy's. The Pizza: I like a crispy cracker-like crust. I did not like their crust, it was kinda tough. My mom really likes their pizza and my brothers think it's not excellent but it's the best around here. The sauce was too sweet for my taste. It had no tang and it didn't seem like it had spices added to it, just pure overly sweet tomato sauce. The cheese is very good though. Not chewy or weird at all. Their sausage is good too. So for me and my taste, the pizza was okay only. The Gelato: What can I say? Their gelato is so tasty. The pistachio flavor I think needs more flavor to it, but you really can't miss. They are great flavors. The Service and Atmosphere: Service is fast and good. The place is so small, but I like it, with all the breads, food, grocery items, it's nice. Other Foods: I really want to try some of their pastas and dishes like chiken vesuvio, but I haven't gotten around to it. So I hope to update soon with reviews for their lasagnas and other food besides pizza. read more

Every town in America needs a Freddy's. It has something for everyone. Homemade, family oriented, authentic, Italian...pasta, aracini, gelato, salad, Italian ice, pizza, seafood, a deli, indoor/outdoor seating, THE COMBINATIONS ARE ENDLESS! It's a sweet little restaurant on a quiet corner operated by the nicest people. But I will say this, though I've been coming here for years and it's always a pleasant experience, my most recent visit I was taken care of by some people I did not recognize. These new staffers were full of attitude and didn't seem to know how to make customers feel at home. Aside from their snide looks, the regular staff will always make you feel comfortable, give suggestions, explanations, and a free sample. First visit and highly impressed. I love the atmosphere. The service is excellent everyone was patient with us asking questions and putting together our selections. They offered suggestions and a sample of the most amazing ravioli. We each ordered a small portion of a few different items and shared. Amazed at how good everything was. Old world Italian charm at its finest. Like walking onto the set of the movie Goodfellas. The thick Chicago accents are to die for. This is my go-to for week night dinners. Their light-as-air pillows of ricotta-filled gnocchi with perfectly cooked/seasoned vodka tomato sauce is absolute heaven. I usually grab some lemon chicken as well to round out the meal. The leftovers last me a couple days. Cash only! Although I'm guilty of forgetting cash; the guy gives me my food and tells me to come back tomorrow. It just doesn't get much better than this! Gotta hustle though, since they close at 7pm! Save room for gelato! read more

I won't give up, I'll try again, but today's order was so disappointing. I ordered their eggplant parmesan sandwiches and they were a sloppy mess, but tasted ok. The soup was pretty good. But the apple pie was so bad we couldn't eat it. It has a taste of fake apple candy. What in the world did they use for flavoring?? Cinnamon is the only flavoring I would ever add to apple pie. Apples are tasty by themselves without adding some kind of fake candy flavoring. Please... Next time I'll order pizza because I've heard from co-workers that their pizza and italian dishes are superb. read more

This place is a gem. They have simply the best pizza crust out there, for which alone a pizza is worth buying. Further, their entire selection of foods is always phenomenal. The one downside to this place is that it is tiny, so can take some time getting to place your order--but this speaks more to its popularity and local character than anything else. Finally, they have the friendliest employees. I am a huge fan. read more

Hands down best pizza in Cicero and arguably the suburbs around Chicago. Not only will you find a slice of classic sausage or pepperoni but you'll have a choice of some more creative slices like calamari or prosciutto as well. The pastas are also top notch. I'm speechless I can't find words to describe this place everything is absolutely delicious freshly made taste homemade bring home the sauce boil your own pasta get some lettuce add your seafood salad on top. meal for fit for a king fresh baked bread what more can you ask for love love love this place their clerks are attentive they are just waiting on you. The Gnocchi was fantastic, the atmosphere was old school charm and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for quality Italian Cuisine at affordable prices, but don't get affordable confused with cheaper food, that food I had was awesome. The Vodka sauce was balanced, the ingredients fresh as if taken off the vine right before preparing it. The ricotta cheese was light and fluffy, made the texture of the gnocchi as if it biting into a cloud, but still had a bite to it. read more

Just a great neighborhood place with tons of different Italian dishes ready to eat. Very simple place, this is not a fine dining place, but a good hearty meal place for an affordable price. I'm not big on paying an arm and a leg for pasta, although there are a few exceptions to that around Chicago. The pizza is more like a pizza bread style and not typical "Chicago Style" pizza that all of the tourist love. Its very good pizza, and whenever I'm in the area, I'm drawn in for a slice, but sometimes order something else, because it all looks so good and smells so good! The place is deli style, with display cases full of all kinds of Italian food and prepared salads! Enjoy! read more

The best arancini and Italian ice I have ever tasted in life. Go hungry and go with cash. Caprese salad, gnocchi, lemon chicken are also great. My husband says the Italian sub is also to die for. So much to try and not enough room in my tummy. The pizza unfortunately is just ok. Mostly everything is sold by the pound. Enjoy!! read more

We stopped in here Saturday afternoon for italuan ice. I am so glad we did. we left with italian ice, pizza, and rice balls. Everything was beyond amazing, and super fresh. I was so sad to see they were closed on Sunday, wanted to stop in for another rice ball before heading to the burbs. I will be stopping in again next weekend :) read more

My first slice from Freddy's was around 1974, and it was amazing; well-worth spending my weekly allowance on. My most recent slice was in 2010, and IT WAS STILL AMAZING! Changed since my youth, but *still* purveying the delicious pizza of my youth. Unfortunately Grandma doesn't live around the corner anymore. Summer wasn't summer until I had had Italian ice from Freddy's. A little cup of lemon, cantaloupe, sometimes chocolate (fudgsicle), then sit on the stoop and watch the world go by. Now I drive to Cicero or get off the Eisenhower at Austin when I get sick of the never ending traffic on that highway and head over. The Italian ice and gelato are fantastic, and come in many flavors and sizes. Bring one home and order one to carry and eat on the way. The daily food specials are always a delight and again, many choices. My favorite pizza. The sauce is so fresh and bright and actually tastes like tomatoes! I feel bad for people who don't like bread.....it is a thick bread pizza which allows for the sauce to sink in, the cheese to lightly toast on the corners, and for you to enjoy your choice of topping.....breaded artichoke hearts and pepperoni are my favorites. For those who avoid bread.....the choices continue and they do have a delicious chewy Neapolitan style of pizza as well. Deli selections include house cured prosciutto, breads, frozen pastas, sauces, gardinera (including gardinera relish--great for topping pizza and beef sammiches at home), olive oils, and tasty sausage. The place is cash only. It is always packed. It is sublime. Go make-a your mouth happy. A gem in Cicero. read more

This is one of those places that can be rather intimidating. It seems like everyone else knows WHERE to order, HOW to order, and what's what. Not me. I also didn't mean to get there at peak lunch hour, but I drove around for 25 minutes to find a parking spot. I almost gave up but then told myself to suck it up, because I drove 1/2 hour to get here. Boy, they need parking. I just had their pizza. It was something else. I had their cheese, their sausage margherita (square slice) and pan pizza with sausage. ALL great. Delicious. Crust soft, yet crispy edges, and chewy too! Awesome tomato flavor and the sausage was really tasty.There is so much stuff here, and not just hot food. You could probably eat a different meal a day for several months. Just look at the Yelp pics posted. My God... I will say this....the customers AND the staff are not only friendly, but patient and helpful to us newbies who look like deer caught in headlights. Good spirits all around. I will be back. Maybe on bike though. read more

They have meatballs; various pizza slices and whole pizzas (unlike the new place next door, they'll serve you slices all day); lasagna and manicotti. There are other things but I'm a vegetarian so I zone out the minute I see "sausage." Vegetarian? They default to a marinara red sauce and vegetable is one of the default slices. I didn't see eggplant parmesan on the menu, but they told me if I ask for it (advance notice would be helpful) they'll make it. Entrees are served hot. The manicotti and lasagna are delicious; the manicotti is not a big pan but a take-out container with two manicotti rolls; will feed one hungry person but wouldn't be enough for two people. Service is still friendly although the space is now a little cramped. The cake and gelato, etc. are still delicious, so I stand by everything I said about dessert in my earlier review.

The service was great overall. Everyone was very nice and helpful. They have a special allergy kit that they will get if you have an allergy, and it prevents cross contamination. Unfortunately they had added an extra flavor without asking, and I didn't think to list that flavor as an allergy (I was more concerned about nuts), so they had to scrape off the ice cream. I'm not sure why they would do that-- their reasoning was that sometimes they recommend additional flavors, but I was surprised that they would add them without asking. The flavors were fresh and the rose shape was a very fun and cute idea. The seating area featured warm, relaxing colors and seemed like a nice place to sit. It was very busy, however.

I usually never order vanilla but there really weren't a ton of flavors calling my name, and to their credit the vanilla was nicely made and very creamy with crunchy vanilla specks inside. The pistachio was fine but didn't have the typical deep rich nutty real pistachio flavor I've had at other gelato places, it was more of a lighter flavor. They should turn the temperature in their freezer down a few degrees, it was extremely soft, so much so that by the time I paid and sat down outside, it was a melty mess. The service was nice and she let me try multiple flavors. The tables are outside, no where to sit inside. It's near a busy intersection so it's not a fine dining or peaceful experience. It was a comfortable spring evening around 60 degrees outside so it was fine but if it was warmer I would hate to see how quickly my gelato would melt, as it was already so melty. Overall, while it was perfectly adequate, I don't think I would go out of my way to return, which is a bummer because there aren't a ton of good ice cream or gelato options in Chicago.

I grew up going to this place and always enjoy taking people there for their first time. It's REAL Italian food made old school by REAL Italians. It's one of the few old-time corner Italian deli's left. I hope this place stays open a thousand years and doesn't change one bit. They make some good dishes there that are hard to find at Italian restaurants. Everything is home made right in the back from the gelato, sauces, pastas, Italian ice, bread, all the way to the pizza and cured meats. The place is small and always packed, and they only take cash. My advice: This isn't the place to go if you want something cliche like a beef. Get something different! Everything is good! As packed as they are, the people behind the counter take great care in serving you and make sure you don't feel rushed. They'll answer any questions you have, and despite having customers out the door will still share a laugh with you. Go to Freddy's already! read more

For a place that is about as big inside as the pictures (tiny), they pack an amazing amount of home cooked goodness at any given time. I fell in love with the Lasagna, a massive slab that can satisfy both I and my girlfriend thoroughly with one (and I can eat some serious lasagna). The sauce is rich and delicious, and the balance of the ingredient flavors (ie. noodle, sauce, mozzarella, ricotta/parmesan are the layers I use) are nicely balanced so all are there, and not lost. Then one day I was waiting in line to pay for my lasagna and I couldn't resist asking for a sample of a daily special tempting me next to the register - lemon chicken. It was so good I took home an order of that too for the next day. I can hardly wait to try their pizza, and discover other daily specials on my next visit. And the chocolate gelatto is every bit as good as they say it is. I'm hooked. Too bad parking isn't better. read more

I visited Freddy's a few weeks ago and I was very impressed. I was born and grew up in Cicero, Grant Works to be exact. I lived in the greater Chicago area for about 61 years, Cicero and Bolingbrook. I can't tell you how many times I've passed your store and never thought of looking in. Until recently, I've shopped Amici's in Westmont, however, they disappeared at the end of last year. I now live in western NC for the past 6 years, but always make at least one trip per year to your area. My son still lives in Berwyn. They gave me a few pieces of cooked piece of their homemade Italian sausage and it was very good. Very similar to the Sicilian sausage they used to sell at Amici's. Due to limited space in our motor home, we only brought back a few items. I wish I would have brought that other electric cooler. read more

If the food at Freddy's was plated up and served in a "downtown restaurant," the buzz would be unbelievable. But it's not downtown...and that is what we love about Freddy's. Truly marvelous food from a storefront which is more carry-out than restaurant. (They do have a seating area where you can bring your food and enjoy it right there.) I can honestly say there has been nothing we've had which hasn't delighted us. The lemon chicken, the pepperoni bread, and the timpani are definite show-stoppers. And if you like Italian sausage, Freddy's is the best around. Without question. And as a bonus, the shop is also an Italian market frozen in time (in a wonderful way). It's family run, and there's no mistaking that fact. Genuine. Authentic. Truly a hidden gem. read more

I have one regret...I didn't find this place sooner! What a treat. Unless you are from the neighborhood (I'm not) finding Freddy's is either pure chance or, in my case, a great recommendation. A friend told me it would be worth the trip from Naperville. Boy was he right. I went with the family so we got a chance to sample a few things. All of them were great. I ordered some of the lemon chicken and turned into a very selfish man, giving my kids the evil eye when they tried to get more than just a taste. I have been to my share of expensive Italian restaurants in my time, and I can tell you none of them can beat that meal. We sampled some ravioli and pizza also. Great stuff! Try to save a little room for the gelato, it is so worth it. Fantastic find!! read more

This place has hands down the best spicy Margarita Pizza and Italian ice I have ever had in my life but what's really sad is I won't spend my money here anymore because the big woman with a very big mouth that works behind the counter is so rude and ignorant even when you call on the phone she's offended at the fact you want to place an order and shies Away business. They could probably be as successful as a McDonald's because the food is that good except the people who work there make you feel unwelcome and are extremely rude. I was actually surprised to see they are still doing business out of that shack of a restaurant but this is probably why. I've been going to this place since the early 90's and after yesterday will never go here again. read more

Best place on the planet!! The breaded pork tenderloin sammich, if you're lucky enough to get one, is...well... I'd slap my grandma for one. Put it that way! Old school feel. Sausage hanging from the ceiling, counter service, CASH only,(the Cicero way)... Hands down the best food I've EVER eaten!! Homemade gelato and Italian ice.. You want TRUE Chicago food? This is your place! I seriously recommend it to everyone! I'm in the transportation biz now. (Used to work in the restaurant biz for over 20+ years) and I carry a stack of business cards with me so when I pick up tourists I can send them to a PLACE WHERE THEY CAN GET TRUE CHICAGO FOOD AT IT'S BEST!!! food is good. but staff and sales people sucks. you do not treat your customers like shit or make snotty remarks. if i am next in line you serve me you do not let the person behind me go next and take the last piece of pasta that i want when i am next. then my boss says he is going to pay for everything and then they say you can only have one person take care of all of you. my boss says screw you and your attitude he walks out and does not pay for anything . they have been in business along time i guess they don't give a shit if i go back and somebody behind me gets the last piece of pasta that i want i will reach over the counter and help myself i don't give a shit either. i will take the same shitty attitude. read more

This place is great! Delicious food, super nice staff and a great selection. We ordered pizza and a couple pasta dishes, and everything was great. We ordered a TON of food for $40 (enough leftovers for all of us to eat a big lunch tomorrow). If we had more cash with us, we would have bought some of the fun Italian foods in the grocery section. Freddy's is a nice, laid-back place to grab an inexpensive bite to eat with the family. We'll be back! Unfortunately, Freddy's closes at 7 pm so we weren't able to try the gelato. Best food around. Fair prices, the most knowledgeable, helpful staff. They have everything. EVERY ingredient you need to make a fantastic Sunday dinner. Or go in at lunch for a yummy pre-made meal, from salad to sausage, eggplant--so many choices. The ingredients are the best. No question, this store takes great pride in their food. I had Freddy's cater my son's graduation party, and the food was an absolute hit! We enjoyed some absolutely delicious cheese ravioli, fresh bread, and a 3 foot Italian sub along with some salad and our guests couldn't have been happier! Our son had a few of his classmates over and we had a whole bunch of family come out, and everyone was completely satisfied with their meal and had a wonderful time. This is a deli-style Italian eatery featuring a deli counter, frozen pasta options, a gelato freezer, pizza slices, and various pasta dishes. They only accept cash, and you're expected to know your order before reaching the counter; otherwise, the staff may become irritable. The food is decent, but I wouldn't label it as outstanding. Perhaps it would taste better if it weren't so pricey. They do heat the food for you, allowing you to dine in. Additionally, they offer a selection of salads and a sandwich counter. read more

From the moment you walk in, you can tell it's popular--the place is always buzzing, so be ready with your order when it's your turn. My family recently celebrated my fathers 60th birthday and hes still live and kicking. We bought 3 large entrees for his birthday and by the time we got to the door they were ready for pick up. We had a party of at least 25 least 25 people and everybody loved it and do to their generous portions it 3 days later and we still have left overs. I highly recommend this place for quality of food service and portions. read more

Pizza is as good as it gets. Pasta selection is enormous, and the Italian ice is great! Service is always friendly and the place is always packed. They have a nice dining hall to sit down and enjoy your meal, and it always has a nice vibe to it. Every time I travel through Cicero, I always have to stop in and grab something to eat. Freddy's is 100% amazing! My Grandparents lived across the street. I grew up enjoying their amazing Italian Ice and Pizza. We moved to Champaign! We would put a cooler in back of our car and drive to Freddy's and load up! We now live in Morris and do the same! My three kids also Love Freddy's. Excellent food and Fabulous customer service! Walking into Freddy's Pizza is like stepping into an Italian deli/grocery store that has been magically transported back in time.
