A hidden gem in the Chicagoland area that's conveniently close to the city limit. Possibly the best Italian food in Chicago. This is a combo of an Italian market and deli, with a variety of pasta, pizza, exceptional gelato, and other delicious Italian food that's ready to eat. They price the food according to a weight scale and it's CASH ONLY. I ordered the gnocchi and it was amazing. I also tried a variety of the other pasta dishes including their cheese lasagna, and that was done correctly. Had a variety of their appetizers and they were all delicious. The gelato afterwards is some of the best I've had in Chicago. They have an excellent pistachio flavor and a wild berries flavor that must be tried. They offer plenty of outdoor and indoor seating for customers. It's been around for a long time and is centered around a residential area. Looks like an average place, but who cares when the quality of the food is beyond 10/10. Guaranteed to make you come back. Fabulous Italian deli. The gnocchi with vodka sauce, the pasta with meat sauce and peas are second to none. I recently went in with a large last minute order for food for ten, the went well out of their way to accommodate me. Do yourself a favor and pre-order if you have a large order. They have a "eat-in" area inside and tables outside when the weather is nice. They also sell the best of the best imported goods if you'd rather prepare your own food at home. Gnoc-gnoc-gnoc... Soft, billowy gnocchi. Good gnocchi is tricky to make and even harder to find. I tried making it once and it got quite messy. The outcome: lumps of clumpy sticky dough, blah. Anyway, I saw trays of pizza, tomato vodka cream gnocchi and ravioli on the counter to go. Real Italian grade restaurant quality, delicious! I should have gotten more gnocchi and I'm happy I hedged on getting a frozen bag of ricotta gnocchi - the square, not rolled and tinged with a fork kind, although they have that too. Pizza is always good, a bit salty, but not worth the trip for... you know what I'm gonna say what is though - gnocchi! Well maybe, if it's on the way to somewhere like Brookfield Zoo. Cops were eating there, so that's always a good sign. Gelato at $6 pint to go is abit pricey, but they try to squeeze in as much into that container and it's freshly made. It's wonderfully soft and creamy. I tried the Forest of the Fruit, which I was warned is a bit sour and tangy, but it's still so good with the rich buttery flavors. I've read it's no longer the "best" gelato, but it's pretty darn good! I'll be sure to get more next time. Small family store with an attached indoor/outdoor eating area. The checkout counter could be really chaotic and it's hard to keep a system of a queue. No paper menu (at least I didn't see any). Prices and names are not clearly labeled. Having no idea how much or what it is, I resorted to pointing and telling them when to stop scooping early on. My advice for first timers, relax and order a few small things to eat before shopping. Everyone is friendly and it's easy to see why no matter what time of day there is a line for their amazing food. I absolute adore this place!! It is small and tends to be busy at all times but it is so worth the wait. The place has a genuine and authentic menu, as well as great desserts. My favorite meals here would have to be the gelato (can't go wrong with hazelnut and lemon), their pizza, and their pasta!! There is also plenty of available seating! They have indoor seating right next to the place as well as outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is ideal to enjoy with a pet, but do not bring them inside, I do not think they are allowed. read more

Portions are large enough to share or split into two meals. The pizza is great and reminiscent of my favorite Sicilian NY style. The chicken Marsala and chicken Picatta pieces are a personal favorite especially when I'm too lazy to make it myself (hint: they also freeze well). This place is a hidden gem. You cannot go wrong with any of the gelato flavors. I ordered food from here for the first time the other day though. You can either dine in or take out, and if you take out, they also offer to warm food for you. The inside is much larger than it looks from the exterior. The ordering process is its own organized chaos. There aren't really lines, you just wait until it's your turn and someone will work with you. Food is ordered by the pound, and basically anything you see is game. The pizza slices are a steal, and really filling for a single serving. I had the gnocchi (which comes with bread) and it literally tasted like little clouds. Absolutely delicious. A true bang-for-your-buck kind of place in terms of the food quality and portion sizes. My boyfriend and I shared a gelato and the woman helping us packed the heck out of the container for us. The staff is extremely friendly as well as chivalrous! Good pizza and everything they have is made fresh , seafood salad , I paid for 2 1/2 pounds and counted only 3 shrimp. This is the only thing that is unfair. And for paying $14 a pound is over steep from only getting 3 shrimp on 2 1/2!pounds of this . Service is good and ice cream to die for. While visiting Chicago for the first time, I was told by some locals that they considered Freddy's Pizza the best Italian food in Chicago. Yes, it's a small Italian grocery, but it seems that most of the clientele was buying prepared food to eat there or to go. It's a small space with an organized staff. Platters of food are constantly being brought out. A lot more than just pizza. Numerous salads, pastas, sandwiches, pastries, etc. The staff was very helpful with explaining the selections. With the heatwave in Chicago, the homemade gelato & Italian ice were popular items. I was here Saturday morning & there was a constant stream of customers. I'm assuming that the place is hopping during regular mealtime. I was totally impressed with the food quality & the customer service. I'll be back before I leave town. read more

I finally was able to visit. It was NOTHING like I had expected. Parking was no problem that others swear is a major issue. It was bigger than I expected. It is an Italian deli. Christmas Eve, I expected chaos. Everything went so smoothly, I couldn't believe this was the correct place. It is average size for an Italian deli. You enter and stay to the right. Someone behind the glass case will help you. Now, if I did not know that they have hot food available for purchase, I would have missed it. It is next to the cash register, not covered or protected in any way. This passes Board of Health regulations???? Anyway, everyone has their favorites and the Italian sub was deeeeeeeeeeeeelicious, first time I tried one of those. YUM Staff was very friendly but had to check exactly how to reheat the tray of pasta we purchased. Also, CASH ONLY. Usually you pay by weight but the trays have a fixed price.
