    Dead cake area

Epic experience while digging through the "dead cake" area. I spotted an illustrious (what I have named) "Phteven Cake" and promptly fell apart laughing with my daughter (see pic) upon closer inspection. I think perhaps they are training new bakers but whomever made this masterpiece should be on Netflix's The Next Best Dessert show. Not only is the color true to form but the size and shape of the teeth : perfection. I can barely tell the difference between the cake and the real deal! I can't understand why this cake was on sale. $12.41?? Such a steal! Far better than the baroque styled raspberry monstrosity melting beside it. Should you need some real artistry and dedication put into your pastries, look no further. Fred Meyer bakers have you covered.

Sheesh, this place is HUGE! It's like Walmart... except it's better and... well... BETTER. It's a one stop shop in its truest nature. Need groceries (including fresh and frozen produce)!? CHECK. Clothing?! CHECK. School supplies?! CHECK. Need to buy someone nice jewelry?! CHECK. Souvenirs?! CHECK. I say it's better than Walmart since the variety (and quality) of their products just seems above par in comparison. Check out lines were never long since there were enough cashiers to tend to everyone. Awesome first visit.

This is not my usual Fred Meyer, but I happened to be in the area and needed a few things, so I went in. I don't know that I have ever been to a Fred Meyer with such horrible customer service. I cruised by the meat counter and there were 2 staff people behind it and the female was yelling at the male "you better not screw me over again!" and proceeded to tell him - loudly - what he had done wrong before, case this, the meat that, whatever. So, I stopped directly in front of them, waited to be acknowledged, wasn't, then said "excuse me." She looked and me and said nothing. Just gave me that "what do you want" look. I said that yelling something like that and going on like that in front of customers and children (there was a little girl of about 5-years-old next to me) was probably not a great idea. She said nothing, and kind of smirked, and then went on to berate the guy. No comment, not even an "I'm sorry, how can I help you?" Nothing. So, I asked for a manager. She said he's not here. I asked if there's a store manager, she said there probably is "out there somewhere." I asked her if she could page one for me. She smirked and walked away. A manager came from the front of the store and I told him what had happened. He seemed to listen and care. Moving on.... I'm at the clearance area and there's a door where staff comes in and out with product to stock. And these 2 staff guys were there going on about this worthless girl who does this and that and has all this wasted time. Then I'm looking for the Free Friday item (frequently on Fridays there is a digital download for a free item). I can't find the item, or even a space for it, so it doesn't appear that they carry it. At other Fred Meyers, if they don't carry the item, or are out, they'll substitute something for it. This Friday's item was a small bottle of Nuprin Ibuprofen. So, I got a small bottle of store-brand Ibuprofen and went up to Customer Service to ask about a substitution. Another smirker. I said something like "it doesn't appear that you carry this item .... are you substituting anything for it?" She said, "oh we had some, we got plenty, if you didn't get one, that's too bad." I said "oh, at other Fred Meyer's they'll substitute and give you something else." Snarky response ... "yeah, no, we don't substitute. Like I said, we had it, and you missed out." Alrighty then. {I don't mind not getting the item, it's the tone and the words that I have a problem with.} They had these Squishmallow stuffed animals on sale for half price. And they were all in this sort of tall wire bin. And a lot of them were dirty. The white was dingy, scuff marks, etc. It took me a while to dig through and finally find one that was good enough to purchase. When I got up to the register, I asked the girl if she had a big bag that I could put it in because I didn't want it to get dirty. And I was holding it for her to scan the tag so that I didn't risk it getting dirty, she says yes, snatches it from me, drags it on the scanner and then shoves it into a small bag. Ugh. I wanted to hold it to make sure it didn't get dirty, and she just dirtied it and shoved it in to a small bag when I asked for a big one (that they have and I saw there in the cubbies). Annoying. I did find some fun things on markdown, so that was a treat. I didn't stay long enough to check out the other half of the store because I was annoyed with them.... I really enjoy going to new grocery stores. It's something I enjoy doing when I vacation in different places. It's neat to see how it's laid out, what products they have, are there any hot little deals, etc. However, this Fred Meyer is one I don't think I would return to.

I love Fred Meyers because they are the only place that carries POG (Pineapple Orange Guava) juice. Btw, try to mix POG juice w/ champagne, you'll get a delish mimosa! They have a good selection and great quality on their produce, meat and cheese! I love their fresh fruit pies and tres leches cake, a life save headache when somebody invite me to a party. On the top of that I can drop off my kid for an hour at their Freddy's Playland for free! They added on a Starbucks Coffee Shop not long ago. What not to love? I'll definitely be back!

This is a great all in one store. The clothing selection is quite good, there are a variety of electronics you can buy, there are hardware supplies, they have a garden section, the food is good, and their deli and pastries have a huge selection. If you're looking for one slice of cake you can get it here, which is nice when you just want something for yourself. The prices are reasonable for clothing and other items. The groceries are more expensive than places like Winco and Walmart, but not unreasonable. In addition you get a larger selection of specialty items you can't find everywhere. I'd rate the service standard. Employees are always helpful when you ask for help, and they just don't look as burnt out as people at Walmart (not sure if that's just in my head or not). You won't regret choosing this store for whatever you need.

I think the time before that was to grab a sandwich from the deli for my husband. Conveniently, my hubby wanted a snack so I stopped in to see what I could grab for him. I saw a gentleman pull some fresh pepperoni pizza out of the brick oven. That was my sign to grab my husband a couple slices, he loves pizza. The gentleman helped a couple guests ahead of me. He greeted me but realized he was out of gloves. So, he went to the back to grab some and the gal who was starting the dough stepped in to help me. She asked if i wanted some pizza and of course I said yes. Looking at the pizza, there was no real rhyme or reason to how they sliced it. All the slices were different in size. Not one is the same. One huge slice, many smaller slices and some slivers. I asked her if 2 smaller slices count as 1. She said yes. I wanted a total of 2 big slices. I was in the middle of asking her and was cut off cause I didn't answer her if I wanted pepperoni or Hawaiian. I was literally trying to talk her that I wanted a total of 4 slices to make 2 big slices and was shut down. I took my 2 small slices and went on my merry way. I honestly didn't even want to take the slices I had. The whole interaction with her was tasteless. Why would I want to bring this to my husband? I have never worked in a Deli type job but I have worked in the food industry. Today's interaction with the gal was such a turn off. Maybe she should stick with making the pizzas instead of helping customers. What a complete waste of time coming in and grabbing 2 uneven slices of pizza. I haven't been in for a long time before this and I don't see myself coming back anytime soon. I'd rather buy a full pizza and have my husband toss the other half of the uneaten pizza than be treated like how I did today.

I've visited several times, and while it may still have a following, it gets lost in the ever-expanding sections of your traditional grocers. It wasn't long ago, that you would NOT see vegan cheese in the cheese aisle, or plant-based meats in the meat section, but now they are there, whether it's something you eat or not. The vegetable and fruit section is smaller than the Co-Op at the Village but sometimes it's good to have a second chance. The vitamin section as well as the community hang-out section to the right when you walk in should not be missed. Looking at this Yelp page I was surprised to see reviews, some not flattering, dating back to the 2010 - 2012 era for the same business name at this location but that one closed, years ago it seems, and this is now new ownership and focus but the same business name. Recalibrating. As it were. My first visit in had me eager to go back again as new place wobbles get worked out and the growing season allows them to bring in more local produce. They have what is available in that now and for the other produce they stock it is all organic so works for me! WE'RE GLAD YOU'RE HERE SERVICE: I'll mention product below, but what stood out for my husband and me on this visit was what nice people work here, how helpful everyone is and how much one feels a good spirit of welcome and care in the space. Delightful. PRODUCTS: Produce, flours and grains from local mill, local honeys (the one we chose from Panoptic Apiary in Middleton is excellent), local poultry and beef in a freezer case, dairy (including raw milk if that's your thing) in a dedicated refrigerator case and another with things like a variety of really good salsas, house made guacamole, jarred sauerkraut and...the list goes on. They had Symms cherries, the first of the season's crop, in the store and they are excellent. I picked up some other produce to round out what I needed at home, most of it not local farm grown at this point in the year but all of it fresh and organic. I'm hopeful they'll be able to expand to bring in some farmers, like those who are at the Boise Farmer's Market, to round out their local produce offerings. Gaston's Bakery bread was on a rack and I learned the baker delivers to them daily. They were giving away flowers from a local grower and said they would have more coming in to sell in the store. The flower farm name was Sunny Stems (Caldwell ID) and on the card that came with the flowers, I loved that the owner, Ineke Severa, identifed herself as "grower & dreamer". HEALTHY AND SWEET TREAT SURPRISE!: There is a 'Smoothie' sign above the check out counter and given I have never learned to appreciate those, I didn't study it but then just as I was leaving I saw the sign alongside for a frozen banana whip sweetened with dates. I am a sucker for dates so I ordered one with optional fresh strawberry topping. It was dee-licious and even in the smallest size (only $4 for 9 oz), it was shareable by two. I would go back just for one of these again. PARKING: Ample amount in private lot. ACCESSIBILITY: There is an spot marked with wheelchair emblem paint in the lot near the door but it is not compliant with state building code or ADA because the striped access aisle is on the wrong side of the vehicle. I pause here for a little venting, I don't know who owns the lot but for Pete's sake, there have been crystal clear guidelines in both the ADA law and code for what will be 36 years next month and how this is gotten wrong is beyond understanding. It makes a big difference to people who use wheelchairs and it is embedded in law and code for a reason. That the city of Boise allows these things to go uncorrected is maddening because it is their job to enforce the Access Building Code, including in parking lots. End of vent. Other than that the inside is fully accessible for floor space and check out counter height. LOO: There is one so you can plan accordingly if you want to order a pot of their French Press coffee that was listed on a board. IN THEIR OWN WORDS AS PS: Owners spend time to write marketing material and mission statements and I think it is important to share them. Here are these owners comments as shared on their site titled: ROOTED IN IDAHO. BUILT FOR YOUR TABLE. "town and Country Market was born from a simple belief: the best ingredients don't come from a warehouse across the country. They come from the farm down the road. We've built relationships with Idaho's finest growers, ranchers, and artisans so that you don't have to wonder where your food comes from. When you shop with us, you're buying from the people who planted it, picked it, and made it with their own hands. That's not a marketing claim. That's just how we do things. From the rolling orchards of the Snake River Plain to the cottage kitchens of the Treasure Valley, every item in our store carries a little piece of Idaho in it. Come on in and taste the difference."
