So, this is a warning to elderly folks who shop at this Fred Meyer store. If you are elderly or have a loved one who is, and they shop at this store, please read. I've been shopping at this store for over 25 years. I'm a senior citizen. The last time I was in, me and my small cart were pressed up against the mushroom counter. I was bent over picking mushrooms from the boxes when my cart was hit, sending the handle into my side. It surprised me and hurt like heck. A male employee was moving huge bags of recyclables down the aisle towards the back, when he hit me with a lot of force. He apologized and moved on. I was shocked, unable to speak. There were more elderly people in his path. I decided to follow him and was prepared to shout out a warning to the other customers when he saw me. He lifted one of the bags, excused himself and carried it the rest of the way to the back area. I decided I should report this incident to the service desk. I told the first employee I met. I told him what happened. He asked if I was alright and then said he would report this to a manager. This was my mistake. I should have asked to speak to one. He left the service desk and I assumed he was leaving to find a manager. I left the service desk and a few moments later, was checking out. I was surprised to see the same employee bagging groceries the next register over. There wasn't sufficient time for him to have gone to a manager to get some help. I was still upset and shaking from the experience and was unable to help my cashier identify the vegetable I was buying. I told him what had happened and he said I should still try to speak to a manager. I told him that I needed to go home and relax more than I needed to explain again what had happened. Since no one else came forward to talk to me, I left the store. It took me several hours to stop shaking. I left feedback about my experience on the store's website and requested contact via email. It's been over a week. No one has made contact. All I wanted was for the store to better train their employees. When moving large loads, the guy should have made sure customers were aware of his need to get through, by loudly apologizing and and saying excuse me. Had this guy done that, I would have been aware he was there and would have gladly moved myself and my cart out of the area. Instead, I was hurt and shaken and then treated as though the incident was of no consequence. Now that I see how little Fred Meyers cares about their customers, I can't give them my business. I'm sure, that after 25 years, my absence won't hurt them. Kroger is a huge corporation with stores across the nation. All they care about is their bottom dollar which means they won't contact me for fear I might file a lawsuit. How sad. All I wanted that day was assurance their employees would be given feedback and maybe a place to sit down and relax until I felt better. If you must shop at this store, keep alert at all times or you might be the next victim. read more
