I was making a purchase of some alcoholic beverages at the Auburn Fred Meyer and the cashier claimed that she needed to scan my WA State driver's license into the computer in order to complete the sale. I am 66 years old and it is very apparent. Purchasing alcoholic beverages is perfectly legal otherwise it probably would not be available in the store. Collecting my personal information off my WSDL is a violation of my privacy and is in no way necessary for completion of the purchase. I requested that the manager come and waive the requirement which is what happened after she looked at my ID without scanning it. Both the checker and the manager were quite polite and amenable but stated emphatically that they had to follow policy or be reprimanded. I submit to you folks at Fred Meyer Corporate that the ID card scanning policy is dead wrong and most probably illegal if pushed into court. More and more people are getting more sensitive to violations of their privacy especially in simple matters of just making a food purchase. The digital age is fraught with scams and irreparable data breaches, why perpetuate the problem? Of course the digital coupons are another such abuse because they preclude low income people by virtue of the necessity of buying an expensive cellular phone and an expensive monthly phone service plan just to save some money on some products once in a while. Perhaps us elderly people are avoiding the onslaught of technology. Does Fred Meyer plan on providing telephones and service to low income folks or are you comfortable with your prejudicial policies? Even filling out their "Customer Comment" on teir website would require me to divulge too much information for my taste just in order to provide the benefit of my perspective, which again, is certainly not necessary. I recognize that Fred Meyer is a for-profit company but they do have to remember that customer loyalty is highly perishable. I thank them in advance for a thoughtful response. read more

Do not go to the pharmacy here. They are scamming you on otc pseudo fed. I grabbed the generic $5 pseudo fed and they rang up the $15 brand name. Then when I said I grabbed the generic, they said that the only tag they had was the brand. Saying, "this is the only tag I have back here so this is what you gave us." Don't buy generic pseudo fed here or they will try and do the same thing to you. If the manager does not contact me I will be calling the Washington board of pharmacy. read more

Don't recommend this store. I tried to go as early in the afternoon as possible but its still crowded! Rude people. Self check out was a night mare, didn't care much for the young woman at the self check out but who cares! Ugh! I am so glad that my lease will be up in Auburn until then I'll avoid this place. Other issues are the not so classy, even cro magnon type of male using the "B" word while on his phone this was while I was waiting for my cab. I have come to this FM faithfully for the last 25 years. Since the latest remodel I've been frustrated with it and after today I'm done. Nothing is in logical places so you can't find anything. The helpful guy back by the laundry soap tried but he couldn't find things either. Three employees standing around in apparel chatting with their masks pulled down, but only 2 cashiers in the place. We stood in line for literally 45 minutes to pay. And they lock the door by the floral department early forcing customers to walk WAY around, outside in the dark, cold and rain. Enough, Fred Meyers. I'm switching to Walmart. Cheaper there anyway. read more

Pharmacy can't run a flex card without the actual card in hand even though my daughter has a picture of it both front and back on her phone. She's out of town and needs emergency script. I've done this several times before when she's been away out of state at school. Now it's an issue? I really like shopping at this FM. Twice a week for the last 15 years for sure. Always fresh produce. The deli has quality to match non-others. The Meat Department still does there on cuts. Cloths, jewelery, Fuel for car. Pretty much what any person needs. With the competition always biting. I sure hope this store is supported by my neighbors. read more

Have you ever experienced a situation where an employee verbally threatened you while shopping? Has this occurred without instigation or reason? Tonight I had a taste of that very situation. I've worked many closing shifts at various restraints, retail stores and fast food joints in college, and understand the procedure. Usually for the straggling customers you let them know the store/restaurant will be closing at X time, and then patiently wait for them to leave so you can go home. I knew Fred Meyer was closing at 11, so I was grabbing two more items so I could leave. At 10:57pm I had an employee, about 19yrs old, walk up to me to let me know the store was closing. However, instead of politely telling me "hey, so the store is closing. If you wouldn't mind making your way to check out... etc." I was told in an angry direct tone, word for word; "The store is closed. You need to get your ass out now before I fucking force it out." Mind you, I'm the only person he walked up to despite the 3 other people shopping he walked right by. I told him "Alright, I just have to grab ketchup and mayo. Is it alright if I grab those then head to check out?" He replied, "get out now, or I will forcibly remove you." "Alright, I'll head to check out then...." "What the hell do you not get? Get out now. I'm gonna to call the fucking police." When I walked out the door of the store, it was 10:59pm. The store was not closed, and no purchase was made. Prices are pretty high but they usually have some specialty stuff that I just have to have. They have a great beer selection and they have the best frozen burger patties for summer grillin'! I never have to wait too long for a register to be open or there are plenty of self checkout stations. But if you need help finding something, you're on your own. I have never found an employee in the isles that could help me find anything. So I just wonder around and try to find it myself. In all, it's a clean and very busy Fred Meyer and is great for small specialty or last minute things. read more

I used the Fred Meyer delivery service today, via Instacart, and had a great experience. Pomella, the Instacart delivery person, was excellent. She kept in touch during the selection process and let me know if the delivery time was going to be changed. Everything was packed securely and double-bagged. I like this store very much, I live close by so it's very convenient. I'm able to find what ever I need in groceries and apparel. The south entrance is a hang out for drug dealers and pan handlers. The restriction on skateboards and rollerblades should include bicycles as well. Also really miss the handy Starbucks that's gone. read more

The ONLY reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of all the homeless people that surround the store. Every time I go there, I get stopped by someone hanging around outside asking me for money! The reason for not 5 stars,is every time I come in there and ask someone where I can find an item; I'm always directed to the wrong place! Saturday I was looking for powder for ladies. I tryed where the perfume and where the deodarsnts are a couple other places where I was told and my husband as well. So after 20 after 20 minutes of frustration I have up. I'm in guest service and own my own business. I totally get Im not the only person. Don't think that I'll come back to shop. Ever. The management seems to be somewhat clueless when it comes to hiring security. While shopping & trying to navigate around the throngs of people who got on my nerves I was trying to hug the inside aisle. Well once I rounded the corner coming out of one aisle, who should I see planted firmly like a tree & looking intimidating but an armed policeman looking as grim as you please. Now this sight really unhinged me because I don't like police very much knowing the bad reputation that they have for all kinds of racial profiling across the country & worse. When I finished with my shopping I go outside to wait for my cab. I noticed a young woman directly kiddy corner talking on her phone. A man who I can only guess was probably management gave the woman on the phone a hard time, said she was loitering. Okay, my question is this: Is it loitering when your waiting for a ride or a cab? Then the man (who was with a woman in a flowery skirt) continued arguing with the woman, it was around the same time that the same cop I saw inside of F.M. came around the corner to pick a fight with the woman. Fred Meyer you really need to practice good old fashioned discretion & not just that don't go putting people on the defensive like you did with the cell phone woman. I luv n I mean luv this place. Everyone is so nice n helpful. I shop as well use their pharmacy. I highly recommend this place to shop and the same with the pharmacy. Their pharmacy is top notch. The employer and employees really really care about their customers and making sure they have a safe n inviting shopping experience. They want their customers coming back time after time. If you want to have a good story to tell all your friends and family, then shop here. We moved to the area two years ago and have typically frequented this Fred Meyer since it is the closest, but have started to go to Haggens more and spend the extra money just due to the fact that people who shop at Haggens typically look like they've showered in the past 48 hours. Here are my experiences over the past 2 years: 1) our cashier one time (young girl) tried to start up a conversation about graffiti and how her and her friends do it around the area, but not to tell her mom because her mom knows everyone. 2) I went shopping in gym clothes one time because I was on my way to go hiking, and an older lady stopped me and asked why "young ladies these days always dress so trashy in public". 3) all the fake service dogs. There is a lady who shops here frequently, and we always seem to run into her, and her dog is always growling and barking at people. I saw her dog grab food from a shelf once and no one did anything. 4) the cashiers are flat out RUDE. One in particular chewed me out in front of other customers because I didn't tell her I had coupons, but yet I had them in my hand waving them at her, but since I didn't tell her verbally she thought it would be ok to yell at me. 4) The best story to date: a lady was holding her toddler up by the arm in the grassy area of the parking lot, and his pants were down, and yes.. you guessed it, he was dropping a deuce right on the lawn. Oh Auburn... more than you imagined. These are the times you should shop if you must go to this location: very early morning (as soon as they open), or right before they close during a week night. Don't even bother going during the week if you think you can beat the crowds. The senior citizens flood the store and you can't get to anything. Waited on hold with the Pharmacy for 20 minutes to take care of something that took less than 3. The lady on the phone told me my prescriptions were available and would be filled in a hour. Then I find out From another pharmacy person when I called back that I called to close to her leaving time so I guess she decided my medication was not her problem anymore and left for the day. So when my husband showed up to pick up the prescriptions they had no idea I even called in. I double checked my phones calling records and made sure i called the right pharmacy and I did. My husband and I joke that Fred is my boyfriend. I'm here at least a few times a week. The store is clean, organized, lit well--it actually is relaxing shopping here. Prices are great, to compare I bought my groceries at a few different stores and for what I buy (mostly ingredients from scratch and produce, whole foods, not frozen preserved junk) FM wins hands down. Their Private Selection organic and natural products are great. It's also nice to be able to shop for clothes and shoes, housewares and more while getting your groceries. Rewards points are awesome, I get coupons and awesome gift cards quarterly. Lastly, the employees are great. I actually like talking to them, and when checking out they seem to genuinely like talking to me, too. It gives it that small town market feel. read more

Good store to shop at. The staff that have worked there awhile always remember you, are so nice. Prices ok. Selection is ok but like the selection better at store in Sumner. Deli there is better ans Starbucks INSIDE store. This Fred Meyer has a BIG problem with people parking in handicap zone that should not be there. They should train staff to report it. And do not have enough spots for handicap parking in first place. Plus I am sick and tired of shoplifters getting by and staff can't do anything. read more

Fred Meyer has some stange practices if I want to believe an employee of this store, When I finished my purschase, I grabbed my bags and missed my roll of wrapping paper. I returned 30 minutes later and was told by the cashier it had been returned to the sales floor, she knew it was forgotten and but this is what they do, go find it and show it to me on the way out. This is not an acceptable practice, they knew it was paid and should have gone to cutomer service, I cannot believe this is the coporate direction but sloppy management and employees. I was hoping with the remodel and with some of the practices I understand they are putting in place faster and better checkout the customer experience would become acceptable, I see no hope for Fred Meyer I will take my busihness elsewhere and tell all my friends. So far, I've had no problems here. Coming from Reno, the produce seems a little expensive, but we've been shopping around Auburn, and the prices are comparable- a little bit lower than other groceries, in fact. Their meat prices are lower than Safeway and Albertson's, which is excellent- and one bonus on their bulk chubs of ground beef is that they actually label at the half-pound marks so that you can cut the chub into even portions without guesswork! So far always clean, a good variety of items, and decent prices. An earlier reviewer complained that every employee should know the name of their store manager. Technically, I do agree, but having worked for a grocery store myself, I can state that it's actually RARE when someone low on the totem pole- such as stock or bagging- even knows who their direct supervisor is, let alone the store's GM. (Stockers may have a better chance than baggers, but even they are often left out of the loop.) So this complaint would be better suited to a criticism of the hierarchy of grocery stores in general, rather than this particular Fred Meyer. read more

On several occasions while shopping at the Auburn Fred Myers I encountered people with dogs. Dogs were riding in grocery carts (where we put our groceries) or walking on a leash while their owner shopped. Only once did I see a dog with Service Dog identification. I spoke to the manager and expressed my concerns, but on subsequent visits I continued to see accessory dogs in the store. I love dogs and support the service dog program, but inconsiderate patrons should not be allowed in food establishments with their pets, pose health risks to others, and abuse the system My daughter has allergy induced asthma so I have stopped shopping at Fred Myers. read more

I know how it works. I have worked retail. Someone makes a complaint about you, they ask to speak the manager. The manager comes out and fakes concern, and then goes back to to the co workers and laugh at the complainant. Nothing happens. But I couldn't let it go and some may see me as being sensitive or that I "misunderstood " I go to the Fred Meyer deli in the morning to get biscuits and gravy almost every other day. It's hard to get their attention because they are busy setting things up for the day, and it doesn't bother me usually because I'm in no hurry. I go today and it's the same thing but alot longer than usual. A worker who doesn't work in the deli walked by and said to them that someone's waiting for you. That was cool of her. One of the workers commented "yeah yeah we'll be there in a second. Thought that was annoying but let it slide. Then a worker named "Binky" mimics a black voice and throws up fake gang signs and says " I gots to get my fried chicken" This super got to me and I did what I rarely do and asked for a manager. I started shopping at Freds when I moved and it was the closest grocery store. I have come to appreciate their service, friendliness, and products. I haven't been over-charged like so many other stores and I've always been treated respectfully as a customer. I like that they have all I need In one place. A hair salon, vision center, clothes, pharmacy, hardware, food, gardening center and more. The produce is always good with a good selection of organic and they have a whole section of organic and natural products including bulk foods. My only issue is the deli is small. Although things cost a bit more it's not so much that I need to shop elsewhere. It's definitely my go to shopping store. read more

Janis is the rudest racist ass bitch. I went in the store today to exchange my coin star vouchers that was done back in dec 31st.. On the bottom of the voucher stated that voucher has to be redeemed on the day of ..mind you before heading to the store i was being on the phone with customer service to make sure i dont waste a trip, i explained to them my story , they informed me that truly there is no expiration for those vouchers and the reason why they want voucher to be redeemed on the day of is to avoid incident of lost , stolen , ect. Anyways, i gave them to the lady at customer service , again explained myself and she said it was out if her hands she has to call her manager. There goes Janis, she went over and looked at the vouchers to keep tapping on them and repeat herself it has to be done on the same day and gave me the stupid looks like i dont know how to read or dont understand her ass. When i tried to explain it to her that i understand and she can call customer service to confirm that there is no expiration recording to the customer service, and i did read all of it on the vouchers , i live 2 hours away and there is no way i read that but still drive up here. She looked at the lady and said its 200 we are not going to give it out like that.. i was thinking to myself like OK, first of its not going out of your pocket , second i wasnt going to think that i could get the money like that lol however, she finally shut up and told the lady to call customer service, after being on the phone for a while , they ended up redeeming my vouchers. I do NOT like this Fred Meyer, my best friend loves this store...always telling me she is in and out in no time, so I decided to give it a shot one day after work...I was in a hurry. No not the same, however I ran into 2 very nice and helpful women employees, their help was much apprecaited. I had a total of 4 things...and there was ONE person in front of me...writing a check..I didnt know people still even do that...but whatever. I wasnt rude or making any huffing sounds...LOL I am pretty paitent. The lady in front of me after about 7 minutes turns around and says "Im sorry im taking so long." I say "Ohh no its fine." Of course im lying but she was an older lady and Im not rude, but then the check stand lady says to her...dont aplogize to her blah blah blah...Im was like WOW Really? Then she was rude to me when it came to my turn...but in return of her rudness to me...She only rang up my 4latex balloons and not the expensive one...I could have been nice and said something about it had she been nicer to me, but ohh well got a FREE balloon. I will say I like Fred Meyers selection of healthy food and I do like the clothes they have there...but next time I think I will go a little later when its not so "busy". read more

We all got to buy things, Fred Meyer is a good, and the Auburn store has a great bunch of folks working there that seem genuinely happy at their jobs and treat customers great.
