It is fantastic for both recreational students as well as for preparing the more serious dancers for competition, college dance teams, and professional dancing. The studio is clean and pretty and in a convenient location off Rt 1& 138 at the Tower (aka near smoothies and donuts lol), and honestly, it's worth our 25 minute drive from our town. Parents are able to watch their kids through the viewing window in each of the two studios, or just sit and chill during class on the comfy couch, chat with other parents, or watch the sunset from the chairs on the quieter side, or they can feel safe leaving their children in the teachers' care while running errands. The Teachers are kind, fun, and loving, but also stern and get down to business when they need to be. They really know how to keep the fun and joy in dancing. Val has a way of making each kid feel special and each parent feel like her best friend. And the recitals.... Just wow! They put on such an amazing performance, and a video copy of the show and professional action digital photos are included with your ticket!! I am in awe at the high skill level, perfection, beauty, and sass of all numbers, but especially the older dancers and the teams. I have been moved to tears or clapped and cheered in excitement with so many numbers. My youngest and I usually even stay to watch to second showtime to see all of the other routines because we love it so much and have so much fun at the shows. It takes me roughly 20 minutes driving from TF Green to this place on a Wednesday afternoon. It is pretty easy to miss at night since it's not very well lit and the parking lot could use some work. The place inside though is very well lit with a large Studio A and a slightly smaller Studio B. As far as I know both of the Studios are the same setup with a mirror wall, a bathroom, a disco ball, and a very good sound system that will make anybody deaf. The receptionist is a a nice lady that takes care of payments and keeping track of people taking classes. This place is primarily focused on ballet, but they do offer boot camp as well as my favorite - Zumba! Price for these classes run $8 each but get 4 or more and they're $5 which isn't too bad. My favorite Zumba instructor Sue Dorne (who got me hooked on this workout craze!) teaches here who holds classes on Monday @ 10 am and Wed @ 7 pm. She always brings a cheerful smile and plenty of energy to each class I've had with her. I definitely find the one hour class flying by moving non-stop through all her music routines. When she's on a roll she can definitely make you work up a sweat trying to keep up, but she's also great at slowing down and demonstrating the steps to every new beat. Definitely a great class and it's frequently packed. Mainly women take this class which doesn't bother me one bit since all I'm there for is the great workout each and every time! Tip: Bring a full bottle of water and be prepared to move and listen to some great dancing music :)

I understand why people like MPT upon first attending. You can meet new people, learn something…read morenew, and practice together. That's how I started. But there is a lot under the surface that new attendees don't realize. Everyone single woman in the Yelp photo above (that was the pro-team a few years back) has left the company because of Carlos's (and other leadership) behavior as well as the toxic culture of the studio. I can name so many women who have complained about him to me (I won't...because they don't feel safe to out themselves). But I will tell you a bit of what women are saying (mind you, these are women who have been in the studio for several years). -If he finds a woman attractive, he'll entice you to book a private session. Those sessions are often creepy as heck (unless you bring a boyfriend or husband). -If you don't reciprocate his advances, he'll potentially stalk or harass you. Don't believe me? There are SO many women who have saved screenshots of abusive conversations with him. He has also had at least one restraining order/No contact order against him. I'll bet there are more. -He'll encourage you to be on his performance teams (as I was for 3 years), but if you don't look a certain way, he won't let you advance. I saw so many young, thin women (who had been with the company only a short time) be advanced to higher levels even though they definitely had not put in the time and training that other women (perhaps not as young and thin) had done. All that said...he's going to try to make you think that all these women speaking out against him are crazy or delusional...or that we're competitors trying to take his business. We're not. Speaking for myself, I brought people into the company while I was there...and I feel bad for that. I have absolutely no dance background but have always been curious. Carlos is a fantastic teacher with a great sense of humor. The people were warm and welcoming. Sign up is easy, and can be done through their website. When you go, wear comfortable clothes, and bring extra shoes so that you don't bring in mud and dirt onto the nice dancing floor. The best part - their bread and butter jams! They are dance parties every thursday night that are open to the public. If you take their Thursday night dance class, you get into the bread and butter jam for free :) Prov Swings also hosts special dance weekends where national dance instructors come in to teach all different levels of dance instruction. The weekend also usually has a fun public dance that Saturday night. The lessons are for people of all ages - and I've seen teenagers through people in their 70's! One of the gems in our state - for sure!

Providence Swing will get you up and dancing, no matter your background, experience or, in my case, complete ineptitude. My wife and I wanted to take dance lessons after we became empty-nesters. We were looking for something fun that we could do together. My wife vetoed skeet shooting because there was no physical exercise involved. And so we started looking for dance lessons. We had never done any kind of dancing before -- ever. The scene in Hitch where Will Smith tries to teach Kevin James how to dance was written just for me. We took a few lessons at various places, all of which tried to sell you the next, more expensive lesson. We were about to quit and choose another hobby to pursue when we found Providence Swings. Providence Swings is a truly unique organization. It is not a company trying to sell you dance lessons. It is an amazing community of people who have a passion for swing dancing and want to share that passion with others. Providence Swings has a warm, inviting atmosphere. People really want to help you learn how to dance. And there are people of all ages there, young and old, college kids, newlyweds, empty-nesters and retirees. Lessons are relatively inexpensive and really only a part of what Providence Swings has to offer. Instead of continually asking if you'd like a more expensive lesson, you'll get questions about whether or not you're going to the next social dance. Providence Swings hosts a dance every Thursday night, free for anyone signed up for lessons that month. Everyone is welcome and it is a great time to practice, hang out with friends and have some fun. When you first show up, you may be in awe and somewhat intimidated by how good some of the dancers are. Don't be. They are all friendly and eager to teach you. They are welcoming and, my wife and I can personally attest, very, very patient and excellent teachers. Best of all, if you stick with it, soon you'll be dancing like a pro and you will have made many friends along the way. Where once I stood on the sidelines or -- when absolutely forced to -- did my version of the "washing machine" or "lawnmower", my wife and I now search out places to dance and actually get compliments on our dancing. We can now Swing, Lindy Hop, Charleston and Balboa. (Who knew there were dances where you actually move your feet?) We are still learning, but that is part of the fun. We love Providence Swing and can't recommend it enough.

Shawn would have his lessons and improved greatly over his time there. We also got to watch young kids work on song writing, arranging and performing which was super cool to see!! I would recommend YOU ROCK for anyone that wants to play when if you have never tried before. They have summer camps for kids, adult classes, group classes, private lessons, recording studio, pod cast studio and even a performance area.
