I am very particular in who I go to for anything mainly cause I like people that have been in the business for a long time and are knowledgable. I was looking for someone that has lots of experience and from what I've read in the reviews Franks Pro Shop seems like a great try for me. I recently took up bowling again, 2 finger 1 handed bowler but wanted to try 3 finger bowling cause It looks so much more controlled and efficient. I went to Frank's wanting a bowling ball but my main reason was to resolve my issue on my thumb. I would have a sharp pain at the crease of my thumb where it bends, the area where people would have bowlers thumb. I told the gentleman there I was having this issue and he took my ball and beveled the thumb hole due to the sharp edge digging into the inside of my thumb. I asked how much for that service and he kindly said no charge. I appreciate service like this cause the little things is what makes someone want to return to them. Beveling the thumb hole fixed my issue and I am one happy bowler once again. I can't wait to get fitted for a new ball from them. read more

They do a good job and are very friendly but my advice is to go to their location at Mardi Gras lanes on Madison. The guy at San Juan is disorganized and he has forgotten to glue my finger hole inserts twice. It is super annoying to roll one shot with a brand new ball and lose an insert to the ball return. Go see Daniel, he will take care of you. They still do a great job and are the most knowledgeable shop in town but I think because of my frustration, 3 stars is generous. read more

Got great service from the first people I talked to but after that I had waited twice as long as told for my bowling ball to be drilled and the person I had talked to numerous times after the fact had probably the worst communication and business skills I've ever experienced from a business. As well as calling 3-4 times a day during the week for 4 days straight and got straight to a voicemail and no return calls, which is pretty upsetting to not even get a return call after so many days of just simply trying to talk to someone. I literally would wear a Franks Pro Shop shirt every time I bowl - that's how good they are. Long story short: I had a ball I felt wasnt working right. Wasn't consistent. Turns out - thanks to the guys at the shop - it was drilled completely wrong for how I bowl. Franks took my original ball, plugged and re-drilled (graciously) to get the right track so I could get the ball I just purchased, drilled correctly. Oh, and they got me a 'better' ball because the pin distance on the one I bought online was not so great. Old ball drilled correctly, new ball exchanged AND drilled correctly - all for the price of one drill. I will drive the hour it takes from now on just to not only get a ball drilled, but to also chat and ask questions to help me be a better bowler. This place is where you should go and I will still wear that shirt if they had one. read more

My husband bought a ball online and needed to drill finger holes so we looked up shops near by and found this gem. I called the shop and asked if they were busy and they said they had a few people scheduled ahead of us and each ball could be about a 30 minute wait, but to come in anytime. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and taken care of and drilled our ball. We we were in and out of there in less than 30 minutes. My wife and I visited this shop and were met by Daniel, who provided excellent customer service and knowledgeable assistance in choosing a ball and shoes for us. Our stuff was ordered, drilled and ready the same day. Nice, economical package deal, and he was flexible about letting us choose different options. Frank's Pro Shop I am a beginner bowler averaging about 170 using house balls. It was suggested I get my own ball fit to me instead of using house balls in order to improve my game. I won a used ball on E-bay and did some research on where to bring it. With all the pro-shop/bowling alley closures in the Sacramento area, the choices were few but I'm glad I happened to stumble upon Frank's Pro Shop. The shop also specializes in trophies but I went to the shop strictly for bowling purposes. The owner, Daniel, is an awesome guy and is willing to talk specs and answer any questions you may have regarding bowling. Daniel is a guy who you just want to grab a beer with and hang out. The thing is, I don't really drink beer but Daniel just gives off that vibe! As for the shop, the shop is small with limited stock however; he is able to order anything from their catalog. Daniel had to special order a thumb insert because the used ball had a different brand from what they carried and he told me it would be ready by the next day. I came back the next day and the thumb insert came, he measured my thumb, drilled the insert and now I have my own fitted bowling ball! He also cleaned the ball and now it looks good as new. I am very happy with Frank's Pro Shop's customer service. I am looking forward to improving my game. It is also nice to know that I found the pro shop that will take care of all my future bowling needs. read more

Knew of this place since the '80s before it moved to the current location. Got a custom trophy made. PROS: Good customer service and decent prices. CONS: Selection is pretty thin but they are able to order anything that is not in stock. Also, quality of custom work is maybe 7/10 at best as the trophy top was mounted incorrectly and permanently affixed crooked. Oh well, guess it gives it character... BOTTOM LINE: Will most likely be going back for future trophy needs, (unless I find someplace new)! read more

I just started to get into bowling a couple of months ago and wanted to get my own gear. My friend recommended Franks. Frank's pro shop has been a great place for all my needs. I purchased my ball, shoes, bag and some maintenance items (cleaner). The prices are very reasonable and the staff are knowledgable and very helpful. They don't pressure you into buying anything and are willing to bring in items for you to look at and if you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. The prices of the ball includes the price of drilling. I have been here on many occasions and never had a problem. If you don't know what you want, I would recommend you coming on a weekday. By Saturday, most items will need to be ordered. They restock items weekly. read more

As a long time customer of bowlers workshop, I was in search of a new pro shop because Gary retired and decided to close up shop. I was a customer of his since the early 2000s and recently having gotten back into the sport two years ago, I now am averaging over 200 a season, purchasing about 3 to 4 new balls a year and resurfacing my equipment about every two months with new inserts. I went here to see about getting some inserts changed out in my Roto Grip Hot Cell and to check out this pro shop that was recommended to me. I walked in and was greeted by a larger man whom I believe his name is Andy, and was treated as if I was a bother. I asked for my inserts to be replaced and while he was doing it, talked bad and down about Gary's work. How my fingers were drilled shallow and was upset he had to cut the inserts. Well with my small hands I have to have minimal top weight so my ball won't over/under. He also did not make my inserts flush with my ball, nor do the inserts go all the way down but also is now a huge glob of sealant in the bottom of my finger inserts. For a ten dollar fee, I now need to go elsewhere to get them replaced and the excess glue removed from my insert holes. Trying out this place and to be treated as such with quite the shotty work, I will not be returning. Attached are two pictures of the bad workmanship that was done. read more

What a great find! We're lucky to have a store like this in Sacramento. They've been around as long as I can remember. I hadn't been in in years--we used them in the 70's when I was a kid on a bowling league, I'd used them for soccer trophies when I was a soccer mom (the whole "everyone gets a trophy" must be good for business) and recently I went there to purchase a gift. Brought in a ball for drilling and the shop completed the work in less than an hour even with other clients interrupting the process. I wanted it drilled exactly like my previous ball that eventually cracked over time. Got the ball home and compared the work and they were an exact match. What a nice little shop. As I started getting into bowling, I got my own ball. When I came here the workers were friendly and all. The drilling basically makes the ball. Without a proper drill, the ball can basically lose all potential of what it's meant for. I had both my spare ball and my hook ball drilled here, on separate occasions. This is a small shop located in a small plaza! I drove past it once when trying to locate it. It costs $40 for a conventional drill and $50 for a drill with inserts provided. My spare ball was drilled here first as I had that ball first. They carefully measured my measurements and which ones I was more comfortable with. The ball took about 20-30 minutes to drill. After finishing, I was able to see how it fits. He even gave me some tips on how to bowl better, which was a nice bonus. It felt fine while holding it but I wasn't sure how it would feel when I actually bowl. They have a mini indoor bowling lane for you to test that out! So I did, and it was a little tight around the thumb area for me. I am not a professional bowler so I don't have the perfect form and such. I had them re-drill the thumb hole a size bigger. After that, it was perfect. My accuracy with my spare ball has increased drastically and I was able to control it better than I can with the balls offered at bowling alleys. The only downer of this visit is that their credit machine thing was down so they couldn't read my credit card. I didn't have cash on me so they told me that I had to go down to the bank a couple blocks down to withdraw some money to pay for it. My hook ball was also carefully measured and drilled. It felt just right with the inserts. It looks good and all and the visit was also nice. The workers were nice and I also met other bowlers. One who was drilling the same ball I had. Nothing was wrong this time and we were able to pay by credit. We had two balls drilled today so the wait was about 40 minutes. One was my hook ball and the other was my girlfriends spare ball. My performance is steadily increasing and my score has been more consistent. I would give this play a 4.5 but yelp doesn't allow me to do so. 4 star for the first visit due to the inconvenience and a 5 for the second. But since I do love the job they did to my bowling balls, I'll just leave a 5 here. read more

Wow! I've been bowling three years and had to switch hands because of a non related injury. My ball was re-drilled locally, but it never felt right. I tried everything everyone suggested including wrist braces with no luck. Finally, went to Frank's Pro Shop. Andrew took measurements, looked at my ball and described to a T exactly what was going on with my arm swing and release and why. This guy is not only brilliant at his craft, he has the patience to get it right..Such a relief to have the problem diagnosed. I needed a bowling ball and since having your ball drilled by a competent professional is as important as the ball itself, I went to Frank's Pro Shop on Fulton Ave. He asked be a lot of questions and did some strength and mobility tests (since I'm older than dirt) to help me get the right weight and the right grip. Since it's a bit of a drive for me, I called before I came here and the man was very helpful. I was looking for a pair of shoes that was backordered on every...single..website. So I called this store and he said he'd call his suppliers and call me back in 5 minutes, which he did. He informed me that the style didn't come out yet but some people already had limited quantities. Very helpful! Anyways, I decided to go to the store to look at the different styles, but they didn't have very many to choose from. There was maybe...10 pairs for each gender. Also, don't expect the place to be a store where you walk around looking at different products. There's shelves for trophies, bags, and shoes but if you're looking for something you should ask the man working there. He's very helpful though, so it's a good thing. Andrew and his staff were amazingly patient with my son and me while we shopped. We brought in a ball for resizing the finger holes. We found our ball was cracked 1/3 of the way thru. The crack was hard to see. They went thru our options, and educated us on proper care and storage. We ultimately bought a new ball. The excellent service continued measuring out my sons hand and walked him thru how to hold the ball and improve his throw. We got to watch them drill the ball upclose so my son could learn how it's all done. We talked about what a beginner like myself should look for in a ball. There was no pressure to buy and they suggested to try out the different weights next time I bowl. They wanted to make sure I knew exactly what I needed or wanted before buying my own ball. We get a free cleaning after about 16 uses. They told us to come back so they can look at the ball and make sure we're still happy. We will definitely be back for all our Bowling needs read more

Poor Daniel he is going to find it difficult to live on the pedestal I build. Something about him is super. I just felt so good being in that pro shop. He has cliental that come back over and over again. He drilled the holes for me on my online ball and only said good things about the plastic small core ball I purchased. He really knows how to drill holes what an amazing fit.. My husband felt bad because his father was an successful business man depending on the community and bought a bowling ball, bag and shoes upping what I had mistakenly purchased without a pros opinion. You can buy anything you want and if they need to order it they have it the next day. I would love to go back time and time again but pretty soon it would be evident I was stalking for that great feeling Daniel puts out without trying to sell. if i could give them a zero i would. andrew is an idiot. he talks waaaaaaay to much and about nothing. he kind of speaks down to you too and i dont like people that do that. he gets side tracked easily. just focus and answer my questions! i went here because a friend had told he had a good experiance with a guy named tim, only come to find out tim was no longer there. so since i was already there i gave andrew a shot. i picked out a ball and was told to call to make sure it was done before i made the drive back. so i called and andrew said yes the ball was done. he said to come on over and we would do the final fitting. come to find out when i got there he had not even started it. i will not be back to this place. i would rather drive a longer distance so i could get better service read more
