I love shopping at REI. They have such great stuff. I was at REI today and I saw a top that I simply feel in love with. So cute. I had to stay in line so I wouldn't buy it as I really don't need more clothing. I am such a shopper and keep buying new clothing all the time. Earlier in this week I went shopping with my girlfriend and came home with a Oakland A's T-shirt and a dress. I now have enough dress that I can wear a new one every Sunday to church for 3 months. And as for tops. I have so many of them. Just 2 weeks again I was sporting my REI pants. You know those hiking kind that are light weight and zip off to make them into shorts. It was perfect for our service project of moving bark in a local park. I love the clothing I buy at REI they are functional and cute. One of my favorite sweaters is from REI. It's a rust colored sweater that is tight weave so it keeps me tasty warm. I do have to admit that I find REI to be pricy, but the quality lives up to their reputation, and the return policy is amazing .In addition if you are a member shipping is free. I am a fan of shopping on line so they have their hooks in me. My last shopping spree was on a quest for finding the best compression socks for traveling. I'm planning on 20 hour Amtrak trip and have read that if you sit for long periods of time while traveling compression socks can help. I'm not familiar with compression socks. There are so many different types of compression socks available. It's hard to choose the best ones. And the price range and styles really vary. While at REI last month I saw some being sold and I trust REI so I thought I'd buy a pair. But, due to the price I wasn't ready to take the plunge. In store they sell Sockwell brand socks for around $32.95. Quite pricy in my mind. I went online and check out my options and they had last year's model for only $23.93. Not a lot as starting from over $23, but still a savings of $9.02. Better than nothing. I can't believe how expensive compression socks are. I bought one pair online and they arrived. Then I realized that two pairs would be better so I can wear one in each direction in the trip and I wouldn't have to hand wash them. This is a total splurge as lots of people handwashing while on vacation. In the end I bought a 2nd pair online, a different color, but the same style of socks. Shipping was free and I got the same $9.02 discount. Then I got a coupon in the mail, $10 off of a $50 purchase so I needed to use it. So I rebought the socks grabbbed a third pair to get it up to the $50 ($56.58) range thus the 3rd third pair only costs $10, what a deal. Not that I need the 3rd pair. The only time I plan on wearing these when I travel so it's not like they are going to wear out. I'm too much into a bargain. You now probably want to know how they are working out for me. To be honest it's summer and between mid 80's to over 100 so I haven't had a chance to try them out. I know to bad. I only washed one pair so I can still try them on and figure out if I want to keep the other 2 pairs. I can always return them if the one pair doesn't work out for me. That's what I love about REI, they have such a great return policy. read more

Kayla was extremely rude. I walked up to the counter super friendly and asked for a bag and she gave me attitude about it. All I asked for was a bag. You're paperless or plastic-less, fine. But there isn't a need for that kind of response and in that tone. It's just a bag. You don't know who you're dealing with. I've worked in customer service TRAINING in this industry. If she's not having a good day she should've stayed home or if she isn't happy with her job she should look into a different area of work point blank period. They've got a great selection of basics for whatever outdoorsy sport you're trying to get into. I also really enjoy the small Arc'teryx selection they have! They have some jackets, beanies, fleeces, etc. but the best selection is definitely all online. All the staff are friendly, welcoming, and helpful. You might be able to find gear for cheaper either buying used or just searching around but I think the convenience of everything in one store might be worth it. I come here primarily to get my snowboard waxed. I paid a $30 lifetime membership fee and was able to get my board waxed for about $15. WORTH!!!! I've heard they have workshops where they actually TEACH you how to wax your own snowboard so I'm definitely going to come back for those. They also have an option (free for members) to get your board a different type of wax that lasts for maybe a day or two. I dropped my board off on Monday afternoon and was lucky enough to pick up my board the next day. I'm not sure if their wax turnover time is always this quick but I am very happy with their service. This is the closest REI to me, but since I'm down in the Sac area often, no biggie to drop on in. I've been a REI member for like forever as long as I can remember. NO dues or anything, like Costco! I like the return policy here, no time limit returns! This comes in handy with shoes. You gotta try them if you're buying hiking boots and just walking around the store isn't gonna let you know about the long term, like do I get blisters? I purchased Merrell walking moc shoes, cause they were slip on and I don't have to worry about tying laces all the time. They fit the best out of all the different ones I tried on here at the store. The sales people are super friendly and helpful and yes, patient! Well, these shoes work out at first but I noticed the tread on the bottom wearing down fast, way faster than 2 months of casual wear should be, not like I was doing 12 mile walks everyday! These shoes were $100.00! I brought the shoes back to the store and showed them and they looked up when I purchased them and said they can give me a refund or I could choose another pair of shoes. I love the return policy here, customer satisfaction! OK, I just got my money back and I'll think about another model of shoe. There's cheaper shoes that might work better. I'll keep coming to REI for the service and return policy! read more

Saw sign they were 20% off, at check out, cashier said they were only 20% off one YETI item per membership since that's how it was in the past. Thought this was odd, but paid and left. Ended up going to EG REI later and was told this was incorrect-considering it was 20% off multiple YETI items online too. Luckily was able to return the one I got and get the full discount. I should have turned around and left the store. As I was walking in a customer was yelling "you just lost my business." The gentleman in shoes help me quick, easy and he was very pleasant. I asked for help with a roof car rack, after waiting 20 minutes for other customers. A older man walked up as I was waiting and said "I want this rack right now! I need help it is to heavy" They told me I had to wait after him even though they call someone to help me. I was the in the store about 30 minutes longer than him. Ariana is the Best Sales Person. My husband was looking for a backpack and also debating on a traveling duffel bag! The Nemo Double Handle duffel bag - 55L. She sold us on the duffel bag. We think the duffel bag will be better usage than the backpack such a better value. She explained she had the same one and has used it numerous times while flying. It is so nice to have an REI right in our Sacramento backyard essentially! This is a go-to for everything from drink tumblers, clothing, SUP merch, waterproof wallets, we even bought my wife a suitcase style 'toilet' setup for when she goes away for work duties (if needed). I had one of the most frustrating retail experiences I've had in a long time with REI. I placed an order for in-store pickup on a Yakima EXO system. The store confirmed the items were in stock and ready. Due to a system error on REI's end, the order was switched to shipping instead of pickup AFTER purchase. I know this may have seemed like user error, trust me it was not, made specifically sure it was pick up because I needed it that day. I went into the store anyway, and the exact items I ordered were physically sitting there. Despite that, employees told me they could not release 2 of the 4 items because the order had been converted to a shipped order in their system. I contacted customer support while in the store. They acknowledged the issue but told me they could not cancel the order or issue a refund until the items are shipped and delivered. So despite the mistake being on REI's end, I was told I have to wait days for the refund to be processed. One employee did offer to ensure the refund would be processed once the shipment arrives, which I appreciate. However, that still requires me to wait for a mistake made by REI's system to play out, instead of being resolved immediately. What made the situation even more frustrating was the proposed "solution." I was told I could purchase the same items again in-store that day to take them home, and then return the shipped order later once it arrived. They even offered a small discount on the second purchase. However, this still required me to spend additional money out of pocket before being refunded for their error. To summarize: * REI had the items in stock * REI made an error changing fulfillment to shipping * REI would not allow the store to correct the issue * REI would not cancel or refund the order immediately * The only workaround required me to spend more money upfront While the employees I interacted with were professional, no one was able to take ownership of resolving the issue in the moment. This is a clear breakdown in REI's systems and customer service process. I've had good experiences with REI in the past, which makes this even more disappointing. This should have been a simple fix. Until these internal issues are addressed, I would be cautious when ordering for in-store pickup. Even if the item is physically in front of you, you may not be able to take it home. Ended up going home and ordering the same thing from Amazon due to their more customer friendly return policy and ability to cancel orders more efficiently and with better internal accountability. read more

Customers are not important at the cashier counter. 1st time that I visited this location, 10 customers in line and 1 cashier. "Sorry, the other cashier is on break". The clerk finally calls for another cashier, after about ten minutes, when the line is continuing to grow. (I feel like this could have been done when they let the other cashier go on, break...at the most inopportune time). Today, there were no cashiers available. One customer ahead of me. The gal the counter says that she has to finish winding up [whatever she had in her hands] before she could help anybody" or else she "would have to start over". So that gentleman asked the other two employees, talking to each other, at the counter, if they could help him. "I need to finish talking to her [another employee] first" was the response. The customer in front of me was clearly irritated (as was I). The "talkers" broke up and the employee said that he could help the gentleman in front of me. The "wind up" girl tells me that she'll help me when she done winding up whatever it was that was so urgent. I told her it was okay, but "clearly customers are not the priority at this location". She responds with "customers are very important here". I told her I wasn't starting a problem and that I was just giving her my feedback. I will continue to give my business to the Roseville location because I've always felt welcomed there...not a burden to whatever else they're doing. read more

This is the closest REI to us and happens to be right by Costco, which makes it a convenient stop if we have any adventuring/sporting needs while we're out on errands. We have stopped here for mostly odds and ends or to check out certain clothing in person vs buying it online without seeing it first. On our latest visit we talked with a really helpful and nice staff member who answered our questions about bikes. My husband has been wanting to get one and they're a lot different than I remember 20ish years ago when I got my red Mongoose bike. There are many levels to bikes, different materials to consider and of course the needs you have. We're still doing research but it was great to see some in person and ask a bunch of questions. We also learned that you can test drive the bikes in the parking lot for about 15 minutes as long as you set it up with the staff. read more

First time to this REI location. It's huge and the store is gorgeous! Lots of parking, easy to find, right off the freeway by Cal Expo. I was able to find and buy exactly what I was looking for by myself. The store is very nicely merchandised and they have a huge selection at every department. I am not an outdoorsy person, and I go to REI from time to time to buy presents for family and friends. I am obviously judged from the moment I walk in and I can't tell if it's their corporate cool culture that teaches every single employee to never smile or offer assistance or maybe it's just me because I am not the REI type?? Anyway, it makes me uncomfortable every time. And not welcome. They are like efficient robots and I wish they would be helpful and warm. Tip: They sell National Parks Passes here! read more

Recreational Equipment Inc aka REI has everything you need outdoors! Snowboarding, Ski, biking, running, camping, you name it... REI has what you're looking for. The hubs and I came in so that he can purchase bindings for his snowboard. For the most part they are out of a lot of things. The store is clean, but they are sold out of a lot of winter sports items, just FYI. The customer service was great. As soon as we walked up, someone helped us and sold him the only bindings left in the store. We were even able to get them installed within 20 minutes. I would highly recommend REI if you're looking for quality products at a price that matches the quality. read more

We are so lucky to have REI in Chico! I have been a member for many years and have had to go elsewhere to shop there. It's so great to be able to go easily now. A few weeks ago my biking shoes failed, so I went to the store, found a new pair, and they put on the clips for free while I waited. My husband had his bike serviced there and they did a great job. I love when I can find everything I'm looking for at one place! LOCATION: In the middle of a large shopping center off Exposition Blvd with plenty of parking. DECOR: It's an outdoorsy place with high ceilings and gear everywhere. A warehouse with nice lighting. PRICE: I bought a bike for half the price I saw it for at another location bike shop and seem to do well with the membership discount. STAFF: I swear they find the most chill down-to-earth, outdoorsy hipsters they can find. These people are all cool and are really there to help. I never feel like I'm being sold to. EXPERIENCE: I bought my first bike. Not the first bike I've ever owned, but the first bike I bought myself and the first I've owned as an adult. It was one of the easiest experiences ever. I saw a bike that was the smaller version of the bike I wanted so they ordered it. The price was much lower than I had expected to pay according to my own research and I was able to test ride it on the day I was called to pick it up. It was put together and ready when I rolled up. I was unable to find several snowshoe accessories in the store so I shopped on their online store and found everything. I decided to use the site to store which provides free shipping as an option as long as you're items are shipped directly to the store for curbside or in person pick up. I decided to go with the site to store with free shipping and used the curbside pickup for the first time. I received 3 emails: 1st one confirming my order, 2nd one for tracking, and the 3rd and last, "your stuffs ready come and get it". Picking up curbside was seamless! There are two sidewalk signs indicating where the curbside pick up area is which happens to be to the left of the main entrance around on the north side of the store. There are only two spaces for curbside pick up and when I arrived I was able to open up my email and tap on the small rectangle at the bottom that sends an "I'm here" message to the store. A Second page pops up where you give a description of your car and you are asked to have your ID ready to show the clerk through your car window. This was by far one of the smoothest contactless curbside experiences I've ever had! read more

REI - really incredible inventory....for outdoor life, that what we came up for the name. Totally not right just sounds kinda cool. If you ever venture for life outdoors this is a goto spot. Yes it might seem a bit expensive, but hey when your out in the Great Outdoors, and your life can be on the line your gonna want to get the good stuff. Been here a numerous amount of times just checking out all the stuff from bikes, camping gear, rock climbing, clothes, drinkware. They have a lot of staff to help out in each area. Cool thing on Fridays from 6pm to 8pm, free rock climb on the wall for all ages, shoes and harnesses to use. Just fill out the release form and your good to go. Kids love it. Plenty of parking spots available, if it's the weekend it can be wicked busy with costco next door, so spots might be a bit scarce on those days. Check them out if your looking for something outdoors to do, or even just visit and get some ideas on something you might want to try. read more

Most of the items REI carried will keep me stop in their store all the time. They have some items I cannot found it anywhere else! The REI Sacramento store is very close to the freeway next to Costco. Sometimes I will just get sucked into REI when I am supposed on my way to Costco! lol! The store is very clear, the lighting is very soft and comfortable! Some of the brands they have I cannot found it at other stores and the items in REI is always good quality!
