Went in for a canopy on their one day sales huge 13x13 for $100. One of the young staff members helped me out since I did not see it on the floor. I saw several other ones that I would have picked out in lieu, but they had it in the back. The kid helped me out with the canopy in the dolly and helped me load it. Highly recommend it with the friendly staff and overal selection of sporting goods is crazy. They carry under armour, nike addidas, carhart and so forth. great value as well. read more

TERRIBLE Customer Service. I walked in. Two employees (African American females) socializing. No greet. Fine. I'm cool. Maybe only the other locations I go to (in different states too I might add) they welcome customers as they walk in. I go to shoe department. I see there is a customer pacing. he comments "hope you better customer service. been waiting 20 minutes for help". I browse the disorganized messy clearance area. I start putting correct sizes by correct signs looking for options while I wait for help to arrive to help him then me. Twenty minutes later I go up front. Those two are still at it. Laughing having a jolly good time. A customer walks up. One of employees helps customer. Other one stands looks on her phone. I say excuse me, can I please get help at shoes. The one on the phone says (pointing to other employee helping customer) she will come help you when she is done. I said ok thank you. I go back to shoes. The man who has been waiting says "this is a ridiculous, I'm leaving" and walks out, I wait 20 more minutes. I go back up front. Guess what? They once again standing up against counters chatting away having a great time gossiping. As they see me coming the one who was on her phone says "did you still need help?". Say what? I was in shock. I was so confused. At that point, I just said never mind. All I wanted was to buy two pairs of shoes in my size. And I walked out. Awful customer service. I came here with my dad looking for a pair of very specific shoes that he likes. He always gets his shoes at Big 5, and they always seem to have what he wants in stock. Dr Scholl's, black, size 9 extra wide, with velcro tabs. It could be years before they wear out, but Big 5 still carries his favorite shoes in the back room each and every time he needs replacements. We even got to use a $5.00 off coupon my mother found in one of their flyers. I hadn't been to a Big 5 in a long time. But I found this store to be an impressive place to shop. When it comes to sports, exercise and activity related equipment, this business should be the first place to check out! It's fun to browse and see the latest products, clothing and foot wear.  I've purchased some comfortable and fashionable pairs of sneakers over the years, especially when a sale is going on. The employees were friendly and ready to offer help. This made our shopping experience a smooth and successful process. Big 5 is sort of the king of chain sporting good stores. I have been here looking for a whole array of sports related equipment (because I play a whole array of sports) and for the most part, they delver. If you are looking for something related to a less common sport or a very specific item, you might come up short. Fortunately, I was recently looking for baseball related equipment for my son and they had exactly what we needed. It took a while to track down service to ask some questions, but once I did I was able to walk out with a new glove and baseball pants to his exact specifications. While there I also perused a lot of the outdoor equipment related to camping and boating and was impressed with the selection. Like any big box store, it has some faults. Go in with that expectation and you'll probably find what it is you are after! read more

Went in yesterday for the fathers day ads. Ive never been to this location before. Normally I visit the greenback and sunrise location. Wow what a difference. At the Citrus Heights one, the employees greet you and will at least ask one if you need help or if you're finding everthing okay. Always friendly and have good customer service. Not this location. It is a nice store. Bigger than most I've been to. The cashier was busy talking to her co worker as she rung up someone. That's probably why I didnt get greeted. Next I walked fo the knife selection as an employee just left the counter to go in the private area or stock area behind the counter. No big deal. Waited for him to come back as he probably didn't see me or was in the middle of something. Waited at the counter ten minutes after just walking in. Lol. I thought I'll just come back I came here for the nike hats that were in the ad anyways. As I walked to the hats a man asked how I was doing, to which I said alright. Wasn't sure if the man even worked there because he was talking to a few associates and customers asking questions about items. Wasn't wearing a name tag or lanyard so maybe security. Regardless if he did work there, then that was the only recognition I received as a customer. Finally get to the hats. There was two signs posted on ONE side saying. $18/$15 nike hats on sale. Right under the signs on this four way fixture were the hats only on this one side as well. I spent probably about 15 to 20 minutes looking all over this fixture for maybe misplaced hat or better choice because a lot of them were dirty or dusty or one of each option. Also because its a fathers day gift for my dad who and i just wanted it to be nice. Spending a that time there no one approached me to ask anything. Lol. Interesting. At one point I needed help findong some shorts that were in the ad and had to interup the conversation two female workers were having, not 10 feet away. When I asked her about the shorts, she took me to a rack and showed me something else. I had to go grab a paper ad myself and show her and she wasnt sure. Before I had to look closer and notice it was for youth not men's. But still that whole situation did not need to happen like that. Eventually I decided to grab a tank top on sale from $20 to $10 so pretty good deal. Looked over at the knife counter and with no one being around it, I decided to forget about it. So they just lost a knife purchase. Finally I go to get rung up. No one is there. Not a long though. As the cashier showed up a minute later. After she totaled my things I noticed the Hat was rung up wrong. It was suppose to be $15 not $25. I showed her the ad and told her it was right below the $15 sign with 4 other ones exactly like it and then that all the nike hats over there are under the. $18 or the $15 pink signs. She said "yeah I don't know what to tell you That's the price. I could get my manager if you want." So I said yes please could you get the manager. And the manager Frank came over and I told him the same thing I told her and he respond saying "well thats not the hat, the hate could've been misplaced". Which is not the case. We walk to the hats and I showed him how I understand what he saying but I think it is the stores fault and more of a lazy employee just though all the nike hats in the nike hat area. He said look im not going to give it to you for that price. As we walked up to the register he said he can look up the last sales price for that hat and give me that instead but it wasn't going to be a $15. Which i don't understand how that makes sense but okay. I guess I guess the $15 only applies to the $20 hats originally and $18 applies to the $25 hats originally but even though that was a $25 hat it was on sale for $18. Seems to me like something was it marked down or something. But in all honesty based on my experience I feel as if the manager should have honored that price but he seemed to be very rude and short-tempered even though the words he was saying we're necessarily ruined his attitude was I was there to spend money I would have spent more money so I don't need to be treated like I'm trying to scam the system or get a deal I just thought I wasn't getting what I was supposed to be getting. I will not be returning to this location it is not worth it even though it is bigger. Went in to big 5 store to buy a pellet pistol, clerk showed me a Glock 17, co2 cartridges I liked it and said i would buy it he ask me if in needed co2 cartridges and pellets. I bought the gun and co2 cartridges. I did not buy pellets because i have many. When i opened package i found the gun only shot bbs. I took the gun back in the original package with the receipt. I talked to a man name Rocky. Explained what happened . Rocky told me he would not take gun back because the package was opened and it was my fault because i did not read the small print on the package that it bas a bb gun. I told him that i relied on the clerk to get me a pellet gun. Rocky reinstated again that it was my fault for not reading the package and refused to take it back. read more

I like Big Five for inexpensive but good quality snow sporting-goods, like snow pants, snowboards, gloves, jackets, socks, and beanies. This year I went in for some snowboarding boots and to my surprise there were no longer boards or boots. Bummer. Maybe this isn't Big Five's fault, maybe it's the sucky snow season. I love how this place is a go to for camping, sports, you name it, they most likely got it. I recently have been camping and I've been here for my gear. I got a tent here, sleeping bags and a lantern. I love how inexpensive I was able to purchase my items. I also love how they sell great quality. I really like their customer service too. I am always greeted when I enter the store and am often asked if I need help finding anything. I really appreciate that as there are times when I do need help or I have questions and they are able to answer them. I felt the need to review this store for a couple of reasons, the first one being that they usually have decent sales on men's athletic shoes. The second reason is because after searching high and low in other discount department stores and finer retail establishments, I finally found the "Ballcap Buddy". This thing goes by various names I'm sure (the $2.99 version at Big 5 is called the Cap Washer by PerfectCurve). I'm hoping my brilliant purchase of the Cap Washer will allow me to resurrect a number of old baseball caps that have suffered a common fate due to hot Sacramento summers. They've become crusty and stained with the sweat of my brow and melon, and are no longer fit for prime time. I slathered a trusty old light-colored baseball cap with Spray 'n Wash Stain Stick, locked it into the plastic contraption, and gave it a whirl in the washing machine. I am hopeful that it will perform its promised magic. If it doesn't deliver, maybe it's time to try the alternative approach and wash my cap on the top shelf of my dishwasher (as also recommended in the instructions). I would be leary of simultaneously washing dishes I plan to eat off, however. Nothing adds that "crowning" touch to a meal like Essence of Flopsweat. Aside from the Ballcap Buddy, er, Cap Master 2000 or what-have-you, this Big 5 has a rack outside with free travel guides of local destinations. I picked up a Shasta Lake Map and travel brochure for free. read more

Aside from the a wide array of goodies toys for all ages, the employees at Big 5 throughout the years have been super cheerful, attentive, and helpful. I politely asked the gentlemen if they provide a mask, and he replied "masks are required to be in here!" I said, "I understand, but I'm in a hurry and forgot it. I'm happy to wear one if you can give me one" He again says snarkily ... "masks are required, I can sell you one..." Now I asked, "really? Required ?? But you don't have to provide someone who needs to spend hundreds of dollars in your store and just happened to forget mine??" "They are required sir." A couple of things.... I swear this is the only sports store that sold boxing stands in their store. The hubs and I don't typically like internet shopping. We want to look at the darn thing we're planning on spending our money on before we make the purchase. Since boxing is his favorite sport and he swears it's the only way that he is motivated in getting and staying in shape we called around and looked online for possible in-store so we can buy now options. Big 5 happened to be it! Since this place is tiny compared to Sports Authority or other sports shops, the boxing stand was not displayed on the floor. Disappointing, but whatever. The hubs wanted it, it's almost his birthday, and I want to support all his health endeavors because I want to live a long healthy life with him and then eventually die together like the movie The Notebook. LOL!! True Story!! The Customer Service: It was slow at first, but they turned it on when they saw my Resting Bitch Face and the annoyed tone in my voice when I asked, "Can I get some help over here?". After that, we had several people helping! They helped with all the questions we fired at them, Grabbed what we wanted from the storage room (the stand and the 100lb heavy bag), Helped us to the cashier, and then loaded our car. THANK YOU!! I have bought many shoes, camping and fishing equipment here. However, 10/20/2020 I was abruptly yelled at by a African American lady in the back stock room for assistance I had already asked a younger man about how said it would be ok. Maybe it was my skin color or being a mom but something was with her that day. I have already emailed corporate about this issue. In the past the employees were all very nice and greeted immediately except this time I went in no greeting and they hired this woman who is ready to verbally attack another women due to minor issue. I contacted this location looking for the Remington 870 shotgun, was told by the person on the phone that they had one in stock. I was told that they couldn't hold it because it they sell products as first come first serve. After waiting in line for 30min, I got to speak to a customer service rep and was told that the gun was in hold for someone who hadn't even taken the gun safety test. This is still holding a gun. Decided to not get frustrated with Walmart and go to Big 5 to buy fishing license for my sons. Went to the gun counter and spoke with the manager who said he could help me at the main register...so far so good. unfortunately, he has not been properly trained on the DFW system and required me to provide a document number from a previous license before he could proceed. I told him that is wasn't required and I've done this for a long time, he replies "so have I' and continue to argued that it was required. I gave up and left, worst customer service I've ever encountered at a Big 5 which is usually pretty good. I have several connections at DFW and they laughed when I told them what happened. The store is small compared to other sporting goods, so there's not a huge selection. The prices are cheaper than most places as well. I was greeted upon entry and later asked if i needed help as i was browsing through stuff so I didn't have issues with customer service. Items in this store are marked incorrectly....sticker prices on some items are much lower than the actual prices (I went to purchase an inflatable inner tube and the sticker said 12.99 but the cashier rang it up for 39.99). I understand that people make mistakes with price stickers but that's false advertisement and the store should honor the sticker price, or at the very least offer an apology....which didn't happen. I was so angry at the manager, Austin Busselo for not helping me with my brother's shoes that I contacted Corporate, spoke to Laura, amazing person very helpful, explained the problem with my brothers shoes and how Austin refused to help me. Corporate called the Greenhaven store, and spoke to the managers there, they had us take them the shoes and saw that the shoe was defective and exchanged the shoes. Buyer beware if you purchase anything from Big 5 on Arden, and your purchase is defective, you will get no help from management, Austin Busselo. Call corporate, at least the staff there know what customer service is. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT THE ARDEN STORE AGAIN.
