Plus the garlic chunks mixed with linguine pasta and olio sauce is pure perfection. I'd come back over and over and over to get this dish again and again and again. Be sure to add a lot of parmesan cheese when the offer heehee. My parents and grandma got the veal linguine, veal on sauteed vegetables, and crab cakes which were crispy on the outside but soft and flavorful on the inside and the sauce paired super well with it. The veal dishes were solid too but nothing compared to my garlic olio chicken dish. It's a nice atmosphere that fits a nice dinner out vibe. Perfect for anniversaries, family dinner celebrations, or even if friends want to dress up and eat out. Service was great too. Definitely would come back and would recommend to friends. 5 stars!

I've been to this restaurant a dozen times in the past and have always had a decent experience. I…read moretook my family and mother-in-law on December 30th, however, and it was pretty miserable. Among the issues we encountered: * For two of the items we ordered off the menu, the server came back to our table to explain that the kitchen was "too busy" and as a result these items were not available. Neither was a complicated dish, they were simple appetizers. I've never heard this excuse at any restaurant before. What was especially annoying was that these were the two items ordered by my kids, both of whom are picky eaters on top of dietary restrictions, and therefore had limited options to begin with. * The menu says that substitutions are possible for a $3 charge. For a restaurant this expensive that's a little obnoxious, but fine, I was happy to pay it. Here again, we were told that the kitchen was "too busy" so they couldn't do any substitutions. That included the ridiculously simple request of putting a steak's sauce on the side rather than on top of the steak. I'm paying $55 for a 12-ounce steak and wanted to pay an additional $3 so that they didn't smother it in a sauce that my kid couldn't eat, but that was too much to ask, apparently. I ordered a steak for myself and asked if I could substitute a different vegetable, but this request got the same response: "too busy". I was even willing to pay the full cost of that vegetable as a side dish, but they were unwilling to accommodate. * When our steaks did arrive, my son's was literally almost raw. (In fairness, mine was a perfect medium rare.) I like rare steaks but this was ordered medium rare and was not even warm all the way through. It probably would be considered "blue rare" by standard definitions. * My wife paid $32 for the "scallops and shrimp" entree. It came with 3 scallops and 2 shrimp. Seriously? How is that a meal, much less a $32 meal? * We ordered three drinks (two glasses of wine and one cocktail). After 20 minutes of waiting, none had arrived. We needed to go up to the bar to order them there instead. * I very politely asked to speak to a manager so that I could explain our experience. I have restaurant industry experience and figured they needed to know about all of this. I was promised that a manager would call me within 2-3 days. It has been 6 weeks and I have not received a call. Needless to say, I'm not holding my breath. I won't ever be going back to Assaggio.

Overall, this was…read morea pretty mediocre dining experience, but the biggest issue -- and the reason we would not recommend this restaurant -- was food safety. The restaurant itself is very small and, honestly, felt poorly managed on the Sunday night we visited. It appeared the manager had staffed the place almost entirely with high school-aged kids. To be fair, they were all polite and friendly, but they clearly were not trained professional waitstaff. The hostess in particular seemed completely overwhelmed and unsure of what she was doing. The food itself was average at best for the price point. Ambiance was okay, nothing particularly memorable one way or the other. We probably would have left thinking "meh, it was fine" except for one major problem. My wife ordered the seafood spaghetti, and the New Zealand mussels in the dish were BAD. Not "a little fishy" bad -- genuinely spoiled bad. The smell and taste were immediately obvious. We brought it to the manager's attention, and her response honestly shocked me more than the mussels themselves. She casually explained that sometimes they get "bad batches of mussels and you can't tell," as if serving spoiled mussels is just an unavoidable normal occurrence. That is not an acceptable answer from a restaurant serving seafood. To their credit, they did remove the dish from the bill, which was the minimum they should have done. Unfortunately, later that night my wife ended up vomiting after dinner. Thankfully it was not severe enough to ruin our vacation or require medical attention, but it absolutely confirmed our concern that something was wrong with the food. At the end of the day, average food and mediocre service are one thing. Serving spoiled shellfish and responding to the complaint with a shrug is another. We would not return.

There's a few tables inside and more seating outside. I got the calzone with pepperoni and the blackened ahi Caesar salad. The calzones here are definitely a must! I love the different cheeses they use as they complement each other really well. The calzone was crispy and not super doughy which I liked. I would probably pass on the Caesar salad next time though. The dressing was watery and the fish was dry. The service here was exceptional. My friend brought her dog, and the workers brought out a water bowl and kept checking up on us. Overall, pretty decent spot for dinner and the ambiance is nice. I would come back just for their calzone.

We dined on a Friday night, so many of the other restaurants were busy and loud. This was exactly what we were looking for after a busy work week. The food quality is very good. Our food was tasty, timely, and hot. Our server correctly recommended the vodka sauce chicken pasta and the grandma pizza, which were both amazing. Although the pizza was a bit pricey, $31, it can easily feed a family due to its large size. For the pasta, the noodles were cooked to a perfect Al dente and the sauce was out of this world. The grandma pizza, similar to Boston's spinach and garlic pizza, was AMAZING! Easily tops Boston's version because of the Alfredo sauce that they use as the base. The service was impeccable, efficient, and friendly. The staff were very polite and attentive throughout our visit. If you're looking for a better alternative for exceptional Italian cuisine in Hawaii Kai, Repetti's is your place. Removed from the hustle and bustle, and always welcoming and good.
