Ladies, I would not go to this bar unless you were with a large group of people. I went earlier this summer with two of my girlfriends and after a few drinks we decided to dance. The minute we started getting into the music, a SWARM (4-5) of aggressive, unrelenting, and harassing men circled us. Every time we said "No." they'd turn away and then try to dance with us from a different angle. After 20 minutes, they started pulling our arms, whispering vulgarities in our ears, and cornering us in an effort to literally FORCE us to dance with them. It was seriously upsetting and scary and we bolted after awhile. Again, if you're a woman, go in a group because we literally had to protect each other from those leeches. read more

I order a whiskey drink and a wine for me and my boyfriend after waiting about 6 minutes for service... The bartender poured whiskey all over my arm and shirt. Got pissy when I asked her to taste the drink because it was a bit weak(Jameson mule tasted like pure ginger beer and lime) I shook my arm removing the excess whiskey and the bartender accused me of "throwing things" at her. I took my drink and went to my seat, I was then approached by "security" & forcibly removed. But not before the team of bouncers who were brimming with misogyny and aggression threatened to detain my spouse. Adding insult to injury, a bouncer decides he's going to insult me asking "if my pussy is made of gold and silver" following it up with an insult about the way I was dressed. Not that it matters I wore a white shirt and blue skinny jeans. Please never go here, unless you want to be racially profiled, have alcohol poured on you and insulted and threatened by the bouncers. Wow! Whoever thought of this place should have gotten some kind of award or something like that. Love this place. The whole concept of it is just sick. Two bars and a great outside lounge/patio space separating the two. If I ever open a bar I plan on stealing this place's design. Both bars have a great beer and liquor selection. One of the best I've personally seen. Anytime I can have a Shock Top and a Hoegaarden at the same place you got me giddy. Their Mojito was also pretty good. Everything was reasonably priced. I don't think I paid more than 6 bucks for a beer or 8 for a mixed drink. You go past a That 70's Show type of garage door into the first bar. They have Skee-Ball and some deer shooting game. Pool table also I think. Nice large space, lots of people dancing here if you come on fridays or weekends. Good Djs also on the weekend. Nice bar also and the drinks are on the cheap. Actually wrote my student's final here while kicking back a few hoegaardens. The second bar is more just your sit and drink type of place. Older crowd friendly I guess. Same selection and all. Me and a few frat brothers stopped in here for a drink or two one saturday after doing some volunteering work and let just say a drink or two turned into a few hours and more than a few hoegaardens. The crowd here is also top notch. I have only been to one or two places that I would say are more diverse. Chicks here were pretty good looking also and not in the trying too hard kinda way. Everyones cool with each other and all around friendly. Just about anyone could come here, have a beer and feel comfortable. They also let you bring in your own food or even better, have it delivered. Bartender actually handed us a bunch of menus. Nothing beats a dozen hoegaardens or so and then getting to have some Chicken Tikka Masala from Bombay Masala (also check out Bombay) brought in while you still drink at one of their nice tables. I went on a Saturday night this past August. They have two sections and an out door area. One with music where people are getting down. It would have been fun but for the crowd. Did I mention this place gets SUPER crowded? Took me no less than 20 minutes to get 2 drinks....because it's so crowded. I considered flashing the bartender to speed things up but it was a female (and I'm not sure if she went that way) and had on a mock-deck (in the summer), which does not make for fluid flashing movements. I eventually got my drink (flashing not necessary). The other section is less crowded but their drink menu is VERY limited. They have a few things on draft and the only bottle they stock is Heineken (or is it Bud light). Very random. While my review is mostly me complaining, I actually liked this place (hence the 4 stars). Good layout, outside space, good music. It's that all good things in Brooklyn attracts a massive crowd and when a place is that crowded, you just don't enjoy it as much. I say come early on the weekends or go on a week day. My favorite neighborhood bar and I broke up. After having some legal issues and opening and closing more than once it finally decided it would rather give up on our relationship than work out the issues - or "Fines" as it referred to them. It was a hard time for me. I didn't know where to turn. I didn't know where to look! My friends tried to console me and tell me that I'd be okay. There are other bars in the sea, they said. You can buy alcohol ANYWHERE they said. I scoffed and told them to get away from me and let me mourn. But they were persistent. One friend suggested I try this new place. Its called "Franklin Park." I didn't want to open myself to being hurt again. After such a long relationship with my old bar, getting into something new just seemed like too much. But then I arrived and saw the outside seating. My old bar didn't have that...and the multiple areas to drink in...this is sorta nice. I saw a mixture of people in the bar - a must I think. I have no urge to feel like I'm the only black dude there and I certainly don't want it to feel like someone is shooting a fricken Young Jeezy video in their either (Read: 95 South around the corner) Bottom line: Cool vibe. everyone from the neighborhood goes here... it's easy to spot the locals. The locals are usually you, and everyone else there. Night time turns into some dance revolution thing, and to be honest it's only really good some of the nights. Sometimes there are just too many guys lined up around the dance area that makes it creepy. I went last Friday around 1am, and found that to be evident, and sort of kept myself in a corner and watched all the hoopla. This place is a pick up spot fo sho. It never fails there are always groups merging and someone drunk making out on the dance floor being pulled off by sober friends. Fun times you ask? Sure if you're the one watching. Friday nights seem to be heavy with guys, and saturday night usually has a balance, but this is only for the dance portion. You take your arse here for the beer garden ample space outdoors, and take in the sun. Plenty of eye candy for all. 3 stars for the dance nonsense, and 4 for their outdoor space. This place seriously needs to be taken down a notch on here. Honestly, I get it; people are excited about the one bar that aligns with their vibe in the neighborhood they live in. But when your vibe is overpriced beer, apathetic bartenders, and loud NYC transplants, just move to the LES already. I moved to Crown Heights because it is cheap; the last thing I'm going to do is spend $6 on a beer, which I chose because they seem to always be out of what I initially order, in an overcrowded, ill-staffed patio. My bitterness is obvious, but that is just my frustration that the one bar closest to my apartment is over-crowded, over-priced, and under-quality staffed. Plus, their happy hour used to actually be happy, does anyone remember the 2 for 1 at this place? Combine this with their relationship to Dutchboy, which has shrunk the size of Franklin by half, and it equates into me being a crankpot. I've given the place two stars because it actually has a patio, which is nice. Seriously, if you want to go to a decent bar in the area, take the extra walk over to Washington where you can buy a beer for $3-5. I used to care for Franklin Park. After my visit earlier this evening, I can officially say Franklin Park is not what it used to be. A girlfriend and I sat down for drinks and dinner in the outside area. Our waiter left a lot to be desired. I know it's Franklin Park and all, but a little decorum and customer service goes a long way. Part of it isn't his fault, the policy of paying as you go or starting a tab even before getting your order is apparently kind-of the policy (turns out, as we later read on menu, you're supposed to pay upon receiving your order and not as our waiter pushed us to do before getting our food). Regardless, a little tact is necessary in this awkward situation. Unless you want to treat clientele as riffraff. No thanks. With that said, I had a few drinks and enjoyed our time there. My chili-cheese fries were disappointing. The last time I had them was at the end of a long-drunken night. The fries were tasteless, the block of melted cheese was hardened and unappealing. The chili was decent but no makeup for the indecency of terrible fries. My friend enjoyed her Cesar salad, and I have enjoyed a lamb burger and hotdog that I had during prior visits. Overall, there are many drinking and eating establishments in the neighborhood and closer to my Bedstuy apartment to patronize-- ones with better customer service, longer happy hours and yes, outdoor seating. I went dancing here a few weekends ago and boy did I DANCE.. The DJ might have been the best I ever heard LOL.. It was a Saturday night.. Only thing is its wayyyy to crowded. They should probably have a cut off point for letting people in. Also none of the bathrooms had tissue.. Yuck.. BUT... for that DJ. I would definitely come back again. I come to Franklin Park regularly for Wednesday night trivia, and, let me tell you, it is FUN. Pub trivia is one of my favorite ways to spend some quality time with friends*, and FP is a great place to do it. The trivia hosts are super chill** and the people that go are laid back and not irritating. In my experience, that combo is hard to find in the land of pub trivia. The bar serves up a variety of brews on tap, and always offers a seasonal variety or three. The bar is cash only, so stop by the ATM before you head over to avoid those pesky ATM fees. The bartenders are friendly. As are the waitstaff. Speaking of, one of the greatest things about Franklin Park is that it is connected to Dutch Boy Burger. You can order anything that you want off of their menu and it will be delivered to your table inside of FP. Mmm. Dutch Boy is famous for their meat based burgers, but their veggie ones aren't bad either. Get it with extra pickles. They're to die for. There are four single stall bathrooms that are shared with Dutch Boy Burger. They are always clean, and I really appreciate that they are both private and gender neutral. In this same area there are a few bar games and a PHOTO BOOTH. Will someone please go in there with me? My snobby Brooklyn friends apparently think that they're too cool to be seen having fun in a photo booth. Losers. ___ * Whatever I'm a nerd. Came to Franklin Park with some friends. We were a party of four. We ordered drinks, burgers and fries. Some of us ordered BBQ sauce on the side for our burgers. In my opinion, the food was ok...just ok. However, let me tell you what was NOT ok. When we received the bill from our waiter ("Kevin"), we noticed two things: 1) we were charged $1.50 (3x $0.50) for the extra BBQ sauce; and 2) Our bill after tax came out to $94.93 and Kevin charged us a gratuity of about $18 resulting in a bill of $112 and some change. First, we were not aware that there was an extra charge for BBQ sauce, as our waiter did not inform us of this when he took our orders. We asked Kevin about this and he insultingly responded, "It was stated on the menu." When I countered his response by asking why he charged us an automatic gratuity when the "menu" also stated that mandatory gratuities would [only] be applied for parties of six or more and/or for bills over $100, reminding him that we were only a party of 4 and our total bill after tax was under $100, he incredulously stated that he would remove the $1.50 BBQ charge. When my friend suggested that he also remove the gratuity charge, he took back the bill and brought an updated one which kept the BBQ charge and deleted the gratuity charge. I thought Kevin's attitude was unprofessional, insulting and overall disgusting to say the least. But yet, even after his horrible display of customer service, I still planned to give him a $10 tip (I normally tip 20% at restaurants). However, when my other friend pointed out to me that the initial gratuity Kevin charged us was even more than the mandatory 18%, I decided to tip Kevin $2.00 and write a little note to express my disappointment. When he came to retrieve the signed bill, Kevin took the bill, looked at it and laughed. People like Kevin represent the scum of the earth. While I can't confirm that Kevin's actions were motivated by some type of racial bias (Kevin is White and three of us in our party are Black), I can't help but wonder if it did. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Franklin Park again and I will be reporting what I believe to be their misconduct to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I was thrilled when Franklin Park opened up earlier this year since I live right up the street. True, it attracts a disproportionate number of white folks compared to the neighborhood demographics, but overall the scene is diverse -- and frankly Crown Heights needed a bar that appeals to the young white people that make up a growing segment of the neighborhood. Good beer selection, decent music, GREAT patio (and room for the doggies). A little pricey, and I haven't always had the friendliest of bartenders, but all in all this is a fine addition to the neighborhood. read more

The thing is, I really want to like this place. It's like the hot, smart person you keep dating because surely there's chemistry somewhere. But going there still sucks. Every time I've considered ordering food here, my girlfriend reminds me: "you always hate it, remember?" Do I listen? Hell no. Because apparently I subconsciously like to feel frustrated and get I told you so eye rolls. Though I am sure my sullen spearing at an always disappointing salad isn't fun for her either. The bartenders and without exception slow and moody, and the acoustics are bad, kind of a jangley tinny roar, so conversations are hard to have. To help with this problem, the staff turns the music up to "abysmally loud". It's a strategy, just not a great one. Also, they don't take cards, which you apparently just have to get used to in this neck of the woods. Why any place with a full bar wouldn't take cards is beyond me, but damn, Brooklyn, help me spend on you! Or, hell. Maybe don't. It keeps me on budget. PS they have a great patio space but are some sorta dog bigots or something. Signs plastered everywhere that your dog is for sure not welcome. NOT WELCOME. NO DOGS. Your loss, because my dog has quite the expensive taste in beer. But its got a good vibe, or decor, or something. And there's that outdoor space. And they have author readings, so that's pretty cool. But Franklin Park and me just can't seem to connect. It would make me sad except there 7 and a half new bars opening nightly in the neighborhood--so there are plenty of other boozy fish in the sea. read more

I really wanted to like this place as it seemed like a good spot. Two bars, restaurant, outdoor space, good music, some arcade games, etc. The crowd there also seemed really fun, dance party in the middle of the floor. Great mix of all different kinds of people, from all over, all getting down. There were a couple of things that turned me off and made me not want to go back. The bathrooms were gross. Yes, I understand it's a bar, however, there still should be toilet paper... somewhere. Luckily we figured this out and just stole napkins from the bar to go into the pee covered toilets. The other main event that really upset our group was, when our table sat down (about ten of us), the bar was pretty empty. Our table ordered food, and drinks. Our waitress was VERY on top of all the beers, but when it came to the non-alcoholic beverages, she could not seem to remember them. We eventually went to the bar to get them. After three of us waited TWO hours for our food, we asked the waitress what was up, and she giggled and said, "oh, I must have delivered it to the wrong table, oops." I don't know what other table she delivered it to, because the bar was pretty empty. We were willing to forget about it, until all three items ended up on our bill. Then we got pissed. She didn't really offer any explanation. One of our party knew the bar tender, and we ended up getting our food for free (about 3 hours after we ordered). I'd be willing to go back and try again. Franklin Park holds a special place in my heart and because of that, I will always love it. The bar has changed quite a bit over the years (e.g. the addition of Dutch Boy Burger) but the laid back atmosphere and chatty bartenders hasn't. The bar has a great happy hour, that includes weekends, trivia night on Wednesdays and although I haven't been back in a long time, Saturday nights would turn into a dirty dance fest for my then-roommates, their friends and I. Okay folks I recently moved over here from Williamsburg. And while I feel that change is good, I was starting to get a little nervous about the fact that there weren't 80 bars on every block. I can't walk very far with out drinking a drink, see. Franklin Park put my worries and DT's at ease by being close to my homestead and providing tons of outdoor seating that I'm sure I will take advantage of if the weather ever stops jerking us around. The only thing I'm not used to yet is the wildly different experience you have hanging here on a weekend vs a week night. Week nights are usually only moderately busy and sometimes even kind of empty. The weekends are jam packed with a full dance floor where an older gentleman once grabbed me on my way to the bathroom and tried to dance with me. His response when I calmly yelled in his ear that I can only dance near people not with them was to give me a kiss. Yup. Then we got married. read more

This is the go to bar/beer garden for Crown Heights/Bed-Stuy. The drinks are reasonably priced and cocktails benefit from heavy handed pours. There is also a great tap selection and beers are correctly priced at $4-6. The music is always on point, blending hip-hop, dancehall, pop & indie rock while people drink, dance and chat the night away. The crowd is as diverse as the neighborhood which is a plus despite what other reviewers have said. The outdoor space has picnic tables and benches and is a great place to hang out on a nice night. Also if you are hungry they share space & a menu with Dutchboy Burgers which is AMAZING. It's a one stop shop where you can get get your drink and party on at night and then show up for a delicious recovery brunch in the morning. read more

Before arriving to Franklin Park I immediately noticed the gentrification in the neighborhood, the bar itself is definitely a testament to it. Food: No food, just drinks. Not sure if they had food before but they don't now. Music: I know the DJ and she mostly plays 90's jams. Not 100% my thing but I was there to support. Drinks: The price is reasonable, I only had one beer and it was $6. The crowd: Hmm...mostly hipsters, i'd say about 90% of the crowd. Later into the evening there's less hipsters, more original locals and it turns into a little of a sausage fest. Franklin Park has a great drinks selection, pleasantly served by their attentive staff. The space is good, but it can get noisy in the back and smoky in the front. The food situation is that you order in. That can be a positive or a negative depending on what you pick, I guess. I've been living in Brooklyn now for over a month and haven't written one review. I guess I've felt uninspired. That is until I stopped in to Franklin park...twice already this week. I get a lot of crap about where I reside. Crown Heights/Bedstuy isn't the most desirable neighborhood, I get it. But it's cheap, and I can walk to Franklin Park from my apartment, so you all can suck it. FP has it all-terrific beers on tap (Pumpkin Ale, Arrogant Bastard, Hoegaarden), canned beers I've never heard of (Pork Slap...have you seen the can? hilarious), strong, really well made Manhattans, clean bathrooms, 2 different bars (one lower key quieter one, and one larger one with a dj, large screen tv, and skee ball), a large outdoor seating area, burly door men to keep out the riff raff, like I said Crown Heights, and a diverse clientele that are super friendly and welcoming to us newbies. read more

As far as bars go, this one is pretty solid. Straightforward but interesting beer selections, a friendly staff, and good outdoor and indoor space makes Franklin Park a nice place to visit no matter who you are with. The food they serve comes from the burger place that is attached, so it's pretty good. I also really like the fact that there is an arcade-style basketball and skiball machine. Man, I love skiball. Those three factors would earn 5 stars regardless of any issues but I will go on to further share my excitement about this spot. Its a little bit of a hike from my hood but totally worth it...we walked up a powerful thirst and appetite by the time we got there. They have indoor and outdoor seating. TVs include a very large projector screen that allows for optimal Sunday football game watching. On a recent night here I enjoyed a beer and some long conversations. I saw two local Yids role up in a Porsche and get in an argument with one of the barmen. Later on a group of Bro's speaking rough Italian with each other and getting very trunk got in a bit of a bar fight. There was a group of teachers here promoting their campaign to get grant money so they could support their belief that they were better teachers than the curriculum. They were canvasing people to vote for them on a website and they'd brought they're laptops with them. What a great idea! I've heard this place called the Crown Heights gentrification station, but its somehow in-between the old and the new. Everyone gathers here. Franklin gets a five star review for Mon, Tue, Wed, Thur and Sun nights, but a one star for Fri and Sat. Went there this past Friday, and at the end of the night, I seriously considered never going back again. I'm a regular, there around three nights a week. It's "my neighborhood" bar. I know all the bartenders by name, they know we. I sometimes just walk in and say "hi" w/o grabbing a drink before heading home, and am one of those tippers that good bartenders love. But, this weekend, I was treated like a $2 hooker by the bouncers. Also have this new bartenders who is a complete douche. Balding blond dude...an ass! Now the good, other than this douche, all the other bartenders are awesome! The patio is awesome! The big bar is awesome! Beers are cheap! This is an amazing place to go for a couple of drinks after work, or chill Sunday after a long weekend. read more

I was thrilled to discover Franklin Park after moving to Crown Heights. The outdoor space is incredible--happy hour here in the summer is awesome. The only bummer is that the patio closes early--I think 11 p.m. on the weekdays and 1 a.m. on the weekends. And in the winter, it's really just a huge bar with skee ball, nothing really special. This place is PACKED on the weekends (and the outdoor space fills up really quickly when it's warm), so if you don't like standing while you drink and screaming at your friends just to be heard, I would stick to early weeknights, at which time it's totally lovely. read more

"Let's keep drinking!" - My friend at 3am, as we're leaving a Big Lebowski theme party. How we ended up at a classy joint like Franklin Park...your guess is as good as mine. Probably better. As my guess is clouded with vodka. So I was all "Let me buy you a drink!" (I get generous sometimes.) And then we sat outside. The lights were all "twinkle!" and the air was all "oh hai, I'm warm an' stuff." And we were cranking butts like it's 2002 and the next morning I woke up in my party dress, thinking, "hey, that last place was really cool!" and "I hope my summer continues to be this magical" and also, "where did I put the aspirin?" Franklin park makes me feel like I'm doing something other then abiding. read more

Great time with a large group. I organize happy hours for my friends and last night, we went to Franklin Park. Our server, Maddie, was incredibly helpful with keeping track of who had ordered what so we could split the bill correctly. read more
