    Making Garlic Knots
    Gerald S.

Franco's Tomato Pies on Main Street, Yardley, PA, has been around for a long while doing mostly take out pizzas from their small shop right next door to Bagel Train. There are only two booths in house, so they don't get much dine in business. Still, I was there around 2:30 in the afternoon earlier this week, and wanted carbs to help finish my long day into night schedule. I asked if I could eat there, and they were totally accommodating. I ordered penne aglio olio with sautéed spinach in a lunch portion, and they knew what to do. After about 5 minutes I was called to the counter to pick up a side salad and bread basket. The greens were plentiful, with tomato wedges, iceberg, red onion, cukes and sliced carrots. Actually, took me by surprise. The four slices of Italian loaf were fresh and ready for dipping into balsamic vinaigrette and the garlicy broth to come at the bottom of the pasta bowl. A few minutes later, the white soup bowl of pasta was on the counter calling my name. I walked over to get it, and enjoyed the hot garlic breath of the dish wafting into my face. Smelled so good. The taste was about right, too. Plenty of pencil points under a nice load of soft spinach. The garlic could have been more golden, but no biggie. The only difficulty I confronted was the large pond of garlic water under the pasta. No matter how long I waited to allow the water to drain from each forkful, it was still dripping onto my shirt, pants and tie. I was careful, but all will be visiting the cleaners to get the stains out. My bad for not bringing a long bib. The store needed a strong cleaning, too. The floor looked grimy from lack of care, and the kitchen area visible from the counter failed the visual inspection test. Looks like the boss doesn't stop in often enough.

    Clump of bacon bits?

This place is hard to judge, they have like one good cook. Sometimes you can a amazing tomato pie, sometimes you get a regular pizza with no cheese...or like tonight sometimes you get a great regular pizza, or this oddly made hopefully bacon pizza I can't spend any more money here

Funny how they say they are not on the app. Here is an screenshot of their store. Hmmmmm

The space is very minimalist with nothing but 2 photos (?) on the walls. As the night progressed the noise level increased but not overwhelming so. I was concerned about the size of the menu with there being around 28 various entrees. In the past I've learned that less is usually best making it easier for the kitchen to perfect their dishes. This total did not include the 2(?) Special entrees. I chose the special Risotto Carbonara with guanciale, cream, mushrooms and cheese and was disappointed. The risotto was overcooked with the usual risotto "bite" missing. There was little seasoning in the dish and not much in the way of quantity of guanciale. In comparison, the Osso Bucco was very good with a rich gravy and side of mashed potatoes. I'm not sure if I'd return. BYO.

It's dark and cozy and has a lovely large bar set off to the side of the eating area. I like the bars to be part of the dining experience, but I really love it when the bar is in its own little place, and the diners are in their own little place together. We have enjoyed Thanksgiving here for several years as well as many many many meals they are consistently yummy and always warm and welcoming. This is one restaurant where I've never had a bad meal. It really is that old time "meet you at the door" .."come on in and eat some food"... kind of vibe !!!

I ordered the Penne Alla Vodka with breaded chicken--creamy, flavorful, and super satisfying. An 8/10 for me. You could taste the care in every sip. Terri and Ron took amazing care of us--so kind, welcoming, and genuine. The space has a woodsy charm to it--open, cozy, and perfect for a date night or even a chill celebration with loved ones. Definitely one of those places that makes you want to come back.

Maybe you remember Sal's from back in the day when dining Italian style home cookin Nonna was the…read morething and if you go to Sal's today, it's still the thing. My daughter was at their Super Bowl party last night and it was something to remember. Crab boil on paper. New Orleans style. Lots of irresistible food and a big screen TV. Who knew that one of the best Super Bowl parties would be at Sal's ?! Well, now you know and that's not just the Super Bowl party.....any night or day you can depend on an amazing menu. I have always been known for making Greco's Clams Casino ....very specific about how they did it and I do it exactly that way and people go absolutely mad. 90% of restaurants that offer claims Casino don't know what Clams Casino is. And my daughter told me that their Clams Casino is as good as mine Whaaaat?! ...they make old time roasted dirty chicken, and if you're reading this and you know what that is, (you serve it with some bread which becomes dirty bread) and just mop it all up..... The family will be there to delight you with memories of delicious dining in the 'Burg'..... Sal's is in the Marrazzo's Market shopping center tucked in off to the side right next to the popcorn people and across from Rita's They have a lovely wine bar and you can bring your own anything .... And who knew you could go there and hang out .....have a glass of wine and a little appetizer and watch your favorite game on the TV..?!!! and speaking of sports TV while I'm dining I really am a girly girl when it comes to that but I know the rest of the world loves it ...What I liked is that I didn't have to dine with the TV right in my face like a lot of other places .....it was there and people can watch it, but you can just forget it's there .. it's not obvious at all .... Which makes the dining experience perfect for everyone...and that's the way it should be done.... The prices are a little higher than some Italian restaurants, BUT, that's because all the ingredients are absolutely as fresh as you can get them and by the way, fresh ingredients make all the difference in flavor and presentation. There is actually someone in the kitchen who is preparing your meal uniquely and perfectly just for you No corporate predictability here. Not like most Italian restaurants where you actually don't need the menu cause you know what they're gonna serve. I am really fussy about my corporate run restaurants some of them are obviously OK but some of them are just so boring. It's ridiculous. Here's what you really have to do ....go over there and have a great meal and then go back and then go back ..... It has definitely become one of Ewing's amazing collection of a "little hole in the wall" type restaurant. The dining area is L shaped and off to the back is a lovely fireplace, very romantic, and the whole dining area is open and designed beautifully ....so when you step inside the door, you will definitely know that this is a place you can take your mom or you can take your date or you can just go and watch a football game and eat some good wings We certainly love those tucked-away places the best !!!..... and if you're not familiar with that way of picking your dining experience, visit this family style Italian restaurant and you'll know what I'm talking about..! Hurry up.....
