I took my 4Runner in after my speedometer stopped working and all the warning lights lid up. I met with Franco and I found him to be a very nice and honest person. I explained to him about my problems with the car and he said leave the car with him and he will try to find out what the problems are. After he spent a few hours doing a diagnostic on my car, he called me back and told me he ordered and placed a speed sensor in my car and the speedometer is still not moving. He figured the problem could be my car's on-board computer went bad. But without the proper equipments like the dealers have, he can't say for sure. And so I have no choice but to pick my car up. With that said, I feel he is a very honest and straight up mechanic. Not only he did not try to sell me on services I do not need, he didn't even charge me anything for the time he spent working on my car, even though he couldn't fix it. You rarely can find honest mechanics like him. If I were able to fix my car (I'll try to avoid going to the dealers if I can), I'll keep bring my car back whenever there's any problems. Check Engine Light and other issues I drove my 2009 Jeep to Florida all the way from Florida. A week after being here the check engine light comes on. Great! After trying to get into Jeep dealerships and be quoted crazy high prices and being told that I would be without my Jeep for at least a week I found Franco's! This place was great! Franco is very kind and runs a great shop. His mechanics were great showing me exactly what I needed to have done. Hello-I have just moved down to Dania Beach from NJ-NY. I bought a used 2006 automobile with 193,639 miles on it since I had to travel around to find a job. I asked my neighbors where I should bring my car to be checked over and they all suggested the same Auto Technician FRANCO. I drove to his shop on Friday Afternoon and it was packed with cars (A Very Good Sign) of course. After giving all the information to Franco I then asked him if he could check it over and let me know of any repairs my car might need. Franco apologized and asked me if I could bring it Tomorrow Morning since he was so busy. I agreed and drove back home with the thought that I just gave him way too much information and I had opened myself to a very large bill since my car was so old. I brought my car back at 8:00 Saturday Morning. Franco himself met me in his office, shook my hand and put my car on the lift. Being from NY I was sick to my stomach bringing my car to an Auto Technician knowing that they have you cornered and can tell you anything about what needs to be repaired even it does not need to be repaired but also charge you any amount since you would never know the difference. Franco pulled off my tires and checked my brakes, tires and then all of the underneath of my car. Franco lowered my car off the lift popped the hood and checked out my Engine, Fluids ETC. As he walked towards me I saw BIG Dollar Signs and bad news. I was getting ready to hear a long list of costly repairs that would have to be done. Franco stated to me that my car is running fine and that all the tires have at least 6,000 miles left on them and the Back Brakes are like new and the front Brakes have at least 10,000 miles to go until they have to be replaced. WHAT!!! Are you for real? I was ready to spend hundreds of dollars for unnecessary repairs and getting ripped off. Then I asked Franco how much I owed him for 15 minutes of his time and he replies $10.00. WHAT!!! Are you for real? $10.00. I was getting myself ready for at least a $300.00+ bill. I then had to force him to take $20.00 to buy Morning Coffee for all his Employees. NO!!! This is not a dream. It is for real. Franco is a Polite, Caring and Honest Man. I am actually hoping my car breaks down so I can give him my business, as crazy as it sounds. We are all Blessed!!! I recently went to Toyota of Hollywood to have a scheduled maintainance done for my car and asked to have the check engine light evaluated. The service department informed me that my car required multiple repairs. I had their agent list each problem and the cost to repair it seperately. The sum total of the repairs was in the area of $2000, and the agent informed me if I had them done that the $90 computer evaluation would be reimbursed. I told the service department agent that I was going to hold off on the repairs at that time. I was talking to my next door neighbor about the repairs I needed for my car and he referred me to Franco's. I took my car there and gave Franco the list of problems the service department at the dealership had told me about. I asked him to check the car out and let me know if he could possibly do the repairs for less. I left the car with him and walk to a diner down the street for some breakfast. When I returned, I was hoping that I would be able to get the repairs done for a discount. To my surprise, I was informed that none of the repairs, the dealership's service department had told me about, were needed. Franco charged me a nominal fee for inspecting the car, and put my faith back in mechanics. He could have made a significant amount of money and I would have been none the wiser. Took my car here the other day. I needed 2 new rear springs for a 98 Cherokee. I had asked around at work about a good mechanic, and they all said Franco. Everyone there uses him, even for the company cars. Franco was friendly, decent, and honest. It was a pleasure just to sit and talk with him- he is a very nice guy who loves his customers. I trusted him so much, I gave him the keys and didn't even ask for an estimate. I picked up the car this AM, and it was only $350, with parts that cost 180. He even went out of the way to save me money. I was shocked to see 2 bad reviews, but Yahoo has some good ones which sound more like Franco to me. The Silverado had developed a chirp under the hood by the time I stopped in Orlando for fuel. 340 miles in on my 640 mile journey to Ft Lauderdale, FL. Praying it was just a worn belt or squeaky pulley I pressed on into the darkness. By midnight it had developed into a definite squeak. I checked into my room at the Drift Hotel and decided to deal with the Chevy in the morning. Up early for so-so coffee I rang up my friend Charlie, a long time resident of Lauderdale and is "in the know" when you need something done right and quick. "Charlie, my truck sounds like it's powered by a parakeet." I explained. "Huh? Look take it to Franco's Auto Repair in Dania. He'll figure it out quick." Taking Charlie's advice I limped the four wheel drive beast into Franco's. It's an old gas station on US 1 turned full garage with two bays and small front lot. Gabriel speaking broken English greeted me as he wiped grease from his hands. He immediately heard the sound as I left the truck idling. "Gabriel, my engine has swallowed a squirrel." He did not get my analogy, but no worries I thought. A great mechanic speaks the language of engineers, not unlike mathematicians and extra terrestrials. He had me pop the hood and after shutting down the engine he removed the serpentine belt. "Go ahead and crank again." he asked. Chirp chirp chirp. "Leave it with us please. I will have to remove other belts to isolate the sound." "You are the engine whisperer." I replied and tossed him the keys. "Work your magic and exorcise the demon from under my hood." I pleaded. My wit was lost in translation as he cocked his head puzzled. "I'll return to check on it late afternoon." I said. He nodded his head and smiled. Later that day I returned to Franco's. I noticed my truck was in the back lot. "Excellent, it's all finished and ready to go." I thought. Franco the owner of the shop shuffled out into the sun to greet me.. He is an older Latino man about 5' 9" with a full graying beard. He looked down and shook his head. "My friend, it is something internal in your engine." A chill ran up my neck. "That's the highway to bankruptcy via a dealership." I thought. I went into his tiny office to settle up with him. His hand written receipt showed a labor charge of only $40. "Frank, $40 really? I know you guys have at the least 2 hours into this. I am prepared to pay your regular rate. I don't need a discount." I explained. Frank shook his head. "You will need your money at the dealership. This will be an expensive fix." Two of his technicians nodded silently in agreement. None of which would look me in the eye. "Hmmm, this is not good." I paid him for the belts plus $40 and ambled back out to my squirrel powered Chevy. The beads of sweat rolling down my back were not heat related. The worst. Went in to get my car looked at, check engine light came on and felt like it was going to stall. Waited in office for 10 minutes without anyone coming in or acknowledging i was there. Went outside into the garage a few times to ask if someone was in the office and to get an idea of how long the wait was. Repeatedly told someone would be in. Wow! I can't believe I am the first to review. Franco and Paulo are the owners of this very fine and honest workshop. I have been coming here for about 10 years now. All of the staff are very,very knowledgable on all makes of cars and are very polite and will explain and educate you on the dealings/concerns of your car. As a woman I have no problem going there and have complete confidence that I am treated as an equivalent to the male customer. They will do everything they can to have you safely back out on the road with reasonable prices. They will tell you the price up front and will honestly let you know how much longer a part could last if your finances are tight. They accept cash,credit and if they can't fix the problem they will refer you to someone that can and that referral usually turns out to be someone just as honest and nice. I really can't say enough positives about this place. Paulo just is so amazing with his knowledge of vehicles his thick Italian accent and charm make for a day of sitting at the repair shop pleasant. Franco the main owner has several service awards of excellence and customer service and he is one of the nicest men I have ever met. He is old school gentleman and both have a great love for their families. The other mechanics that work there are very educated on vehicles as well and are real friendly. They will go out of there way to get your part. I have been witness to Paulo leaving the shop, to meet the dealerships truck that broke down on 595 to get my part and help them at the same time. There customer service is beyond 5 stars. I hope that my review will help others and especially my fellow females. I want them to know that they are getting honest quotes and great work at the end of the day and not be paranoid wondering if your price is fair or worse wondering if they broke something else just so you would have to come back. Last time I was there they were remodeling the office and waiting room, so as Franco put it " I want our guests to be more comfortable at my shop while they wait". I called AAA to find a approved mechanic in the area where my 2005 Nissan Armada died on me (Monday night). I called Franco's they were closing but advised that the tow truck driver could drop the truck off at the shop and he would look at it in the AM. The next morning Franco called me and said it was the fuel pump and too care of it in a matter of hours!! I was back on the road. FRANCO: You used to give me decent service in prior years. But Im losing confidence in you. LAST week I had a coolant leak. You stopped the leak with sealant, so right now I dont have the big expensive repair. But I asked you about the loud squeaking. maybe my belt is bad. you didnt address that second issue. no offense, but Im going to go over to Ferraras this week to get the belt issue checked out. Hopefully its just the belt, and not a pulley. I asked you about this. you said maybe coolant was dripping on the belt. you stopped the leak with the sealant. you didnt stop the squeaking sound. you sent me on my way without addressing this second issue. ....UPDATE: Dropped my car off at Ferraras during my lunch hour; They called me at 1:30PM: bad power steering pulley, and it took a chunk off the belt. $250 parts and labor. Will be ready today by closing. Sounds fair. Quick diagnosis. Quick repair. As fair a price as anybody can give. Why didnt we address this issue, when you had the car LAST WEEK? ....and although the squeak was not as bad a month or two ago, I'd like to know why Paulo couldn't diagnose the squeak weeks ago when I came to the shop. "these cars make those noises...." he said. Really? I dont understand whats going on with you guys!!!!! That belt could have possibly broke and left me stranded someplace! It didnt, but it could possibly have happened. You had the car!! I told you about the problem. You heard the squeak. You called me that afternoon; the sealant stopped the leak; At 5PM I still had a squealing belt!!!! A side note: ...another guy who left a comment said franco told him that you guys dont have diagnostic machines that the dealers have. ....well guys, sell the apartment building next door, so you can buy a diagnostic machine! UPDATE: THE Squeaking problem was a bad belt TENSIONER. But you didnt diagnose it. You did not advise me about the belt tensioner. I fixed my belt tensioner issue at Ferraras auto repair on sheridan street. Paul advised me the bad belt tensioner was not an emergency repair, it would not damage my belt, and I could keep driving until I was ready to fix it. read more
