Holy cow, how do I rate something 10/5 stars? Frame of Mine was fantastic. I came in with an annoyingly specific order, that I needed very quickly, and they nailed it. Communication and customer service was terrific, they were patient while we worked the order out and also provided very helpful advice. In the end, they even had the order ready a bit early. It smelled terrible - but they were all smiles and helpful. Additionally, it was huge- as in nearly 6 feet long! They had to use plexiglass because of the availability of glass in that size. they did a gorgeous job- gave me a ridicously awesome price (I got quotes for $1500-2000 minimum from another place). I will always return to them for framing! They accomodated me and when there was a delay from a manufacturer- they contacted me and were extremely helpful and polite! In a town of grumpy, stressed out, and mean people- the staff of frame of mind stands out for their great attitude, professional service, creativity, and professionalism. We did not have any prior experience with framing but the person told us what we needed to select (frame, mat, glass). Be willing to accept suggestions as they gave helpful feedback in why they suggested the mat be the size it was and what frame color would me most complementary. The only hiccup was that when it came time to pick it up, it wasn't yet ready, but returning the next day (for what was supposed to be a DIY project) they provided us the certificate fully-completed, saving us time as well as money. read more

I had about 9 pieces to frame and thought I could save some money by taking advantage of their DIY discount. After reading Yelp reviews of this place, I decided to stop by and get a quote for a custom frame of a print I own. I walked in and talked to one of the employees. The entire time he was marginally condescending and talked down to me. He asked me what I was thinking and I replied, "well I came in to weigh my options" (since I know nothing about custom framing) and he responded with "oh, well there are PLENTY of options" followed by a blank stare. I received the quote (which sounded too high, but hey, again, I know nothing about custom framing) and told the employee that I would think about it. Only game in town as far as I'm concerned. I came to them with a fairly complicated job, and they were able to layout an attractive piece quickly. The framing process took a reasonable amount of time, which is incredible considering we had three snow storms between the time I placed my order and picked it up. Apparently, while the federal government shuts down, Frame of Mine keeps on chugging along. The staff is friendly, professional and looks to help you find the best possible deal. It's tough to beat their Chinese New Year sale. They have a wide array of options -- especially if you want to frame something for something extravagant. I wanted to put together something easy and simple, and I was not pressured to upgrade (although I was offered options) or scoffed at when I ordered the cheapest possible materials. An easy, comfortable, reasonably priced experience. You can't ask for much more than that. I was referred by word of mouth to this place and will pass along that favor to my friends. read more

UPDATE: I almost started crying in the shop when they brought out my piece. They had sprayed something on it that ruined it. It was all curled and warped under the frame. I could have done a better job myself -- and for a lot less than $300! I went back a couple of weeks later with the piece and spoke to the owner. She tried to defend what they'd done, which only made me more angry. I told her I wanted her to take the frame back and issue me a full refund. She did, which I appreciated. But, the piece will still never be the same. --------------------------------------------------------- I brought two items in, but only ended up leaving one. It's been a long, long time since I've had anything professionally framed: It's a tad more expensive than I remember. But I haven't done a comparison, so I can't comment on whether or not they're comparable to other frame shops in the area. I just knew I wanted a shop with a more personal touch, and the reviews on yelp were really good, so ... The one item I left is priceless to me personally. I was really nervous about leaving it, but by the end of the order, I was much more at ease thanks to the nice young woman who helped me. She also gave me some tips on less expensive ways to frame the other piece I brought in once she saw the look on my face. Heh. I thought that was really cool. I was always weary of getting items framed because of the price tag involved. Frame of mine definitely proved me wrong. This is a local store that provides excellent customer service - they didn't make me feel stupid for not knowing anything about framing, and were totally willing to work with whatever price range. If they can get you a better deal, they will! They usually offer different sales, deals, and specials throughout the year. Get on their email listserv and you'll be in the know. Also, be sure to ask about the DIY option as this will cut costs down for you. I've been really lucky a couple of times to walk in and my DIY projects were already done by the staff because they had a couple of extra minutes in their day. Oh yeah - don't be afraid with DIY, I cant put things together for the life of me, but I was able to put several of my frames together without any problems. I've gotten around 8-9 pieces framed there and have been so pleased with each of them. I've recommended the place to friends and they loved their finished products. read more

What kind of frame store looks at your art, then sends you away and tells you to buy 5 standard frames from Utrecht for much cheaper than they would charge you? THE BEST ONE IN TOWN. I live in Kalorama. It's definitely worth bringing your things across town for the benefit of the friendly service and great deals this place offers. I had 6 total pieces, and I got the frames for 5 at the art store. 3 of my pieces needed mats. One needed 30" x 40" archival glass because there was 1940s newsprint involved. For the day, this was the biggest ticket item at $55. My total for the glass, 3 mats, and for their labor in helping frame for the day came to about $100. Wow! I also got to play with power tools and do some of the framing myself in their workshop, which I really liked. Now for the last piece, it's a 4' x 6' piece that needed to be stretched and remounted on a frame. This won't be ready for another week or so, and is costing around $250. But for making something that's covering an entire wall ready for display, not bad. So to Meghan, DJ, and Kendra, thanks! My condo looks AWESOME and I can't wait until next week. read more

I wasn't impressed with the customer service side of this store. They're still making you wait outside and ring a doorbell to enter and then requiring a mask for a store that has most likely only 2 people in it - you and the one worker. When I entered and put on a mask, mind you this is July 2021, the worker wasn't too friendly and I just got a bad vibe from the place. Count me among the very satisfied customers of FOM. I found them during a search for a Metro-accessible framing shop that was lunch hour close to my downtown DC office. The staff is consistently friendly and helpful. They give you as much (or as little) advice as you want/need re: framing & matting choices. Prices are reasonable/competitive, and the DIY option is a fun way to save some additional $. Outstanding customer service, 100% of the time. I once brought in for framing a poster I'd bought on a trip to Madrid. One corner of the poster got slightly crinkled during the drymounting process. FOM insisted upon replacing the poster - which, it turned out, was not available online. With apologies for the delay, they had a staff member who was taking a trip to Madrid pick up another poster for me at the museum where I'd bought it, shlepping it back to DC for me, without charge. When was the last time you got customer service like that? We're not talking about a priceless piece of art - just a poster I'd purchased at a museum gift shop. But they treated me as well as if I'd brought in a priceless piece of art - and for that, they earned a loyal customer. I've never had a bad experience with Frame of Mine. Framing is not my forte- matching mattes to frames can make my head explode. The knowledge of their staff is a premium I'm very happy to pay for. They will take the time to walk through options with you- taking all the time necessary to get the job done. Love this place. They've framed two of my diplomas and several other projects. It's a real community shop. They're patient with my incredible indecision, and always happy to offer pro tips about what works and doesn't. I actually have no idea how they compare on price, but my sense is that they're reasonable (and really, with what I spent on law school, shouldn't I pony up to preserve the diploma?). Upon entering this store in late October of 2020, I was informed by Allen that my prints would be ready by the second week of November. November went into the mid December allowing them some extra time if needed? I called the store afterwards since I hadn't received an update to determine the outcome, and was told by Allen that the pics weren't ready yet? And that he needed to hurry up to get them out of the store since no one had started on them yet? During the end of December, i was informed via email that my pics were available for pickup, i went to pick them up during the first week in November and noticed that when I got them home into light that lines were in the pics, so i called the store the next day to inform them as they told me to bring them back in? I did so and waited for 3 weeks without receiving an update as to any type of accomodations for my extended wait? January 2021, I was in the neighborhood and stopped by to check on my pics only to be told by Allen that there was nothing that could be done unless my pics were retaped onto a different type of wood without a guarantee the work would be up to part? By that time I was overly disappointed because i was referred to this store assuming that the work done here was 100% good quality but now I'm not so sure thru the experience that I have undergone here especially when it comes to lack of communication, never again please do not waste your time! read more

It all must have taken less than five minutes, including payment. Mid-process, I needed to switch the order from in-store pick-up to out-of-state shipping, and they accommodated me without a pause. The family members to whom the framed photo was a gift loved it. My wife has always spoken highly of Frame of Mine, and now I'll be doing the same. I love FOM. We moved across town (takes me anywhere from 25 min-1 hr to get here from upper NW) six years ago, and I still make the trek to get things framed here. They smartly adjust their suggestions to your particular situation. I've been there and they've steered me to do my own framing even when I was worried about the difficulty (they were right; it was easy), and thus saved me some $$$. Alternately, when I was there juggling my recalcitrant child, they quickly narrowed down the choices for me and got me out of there in one piece. They'll spend hours going over frames and mats, and not blink an eye if at the end of the process you decide to go with a cheaper combination than the one you started with. Be sure to sign up for their e-mail list so you can be alerted to their sales - infrequent but well worth it. I save up stuff to take in at sale time (plus it's so fun to pull out fortune cookies for the Chinese New Year, to see what discount you've won! :)). (ETA: There are pictures I choose to frame myself, and pictures I choose to have professionally framed. It's certainly possible to get your pictures framed more cheaply elsewhere. But, just as sometimes I choose to eat at a restaurant over preparing my own food, I do find for certain things it's worth the difference in price. :)) read more

Awful service. Came in to get a new piece of glass put in a frame. Was told it would only take a few days. Go back over a week later and have to wait in line for 20 minutes just to talk to someone. The first guy couldn't find any info on my piece. The second guy found it but said it wasn't ready and made absolutely no apologies about it. I asked if he could do it then while I waited and he rudely said he was busy and I would have to wait until the end of the day (several hours later)-- again making no apologies. I don't live too close so decided to just take the frame and leave. He handed me my frame and said nothing. Literally nothing. Will definitely never return here again. read more

This is my first Yelp review, and it is because of this business that I felt compelled to write. I found Frame of Mine after a quick internet search in the middle of a work crisis. I needed something framed, stat. I called and spoke to DJ and he said I could come right in and they would get it done. So I hopped in my car and drove over. I believe this was on a Monday. The shop is conveniently located, clean, organized and welcoming. I had a complicated framing job that required a custom mat and a frame that needed to be ordered from their supplier. I also needed to get the mat cut, then take it back to my office to have 100 employees sign it, then bring it back and have it framed. DJ cut the mat for me on the spot and helped me pick a frame. Brought the mat back on Wednesday with the 100 signatures, was told the frame would come in on Thursday and it would be done for Friday morning (Friday afternoon was the absolute latest I needed it). I got a call on Thursday morning that the frame had come in and the job was done!! I was so impressed with every step of the job, they have an electronic tracking system that e-mails you when your job is done, their staff are experienced professionals and just plain pleasant. I know who I'll be using for any of my future framing needs. read more

My experience at Frame of Mine was nothing short of outstanding. I purchased an antique map of my home state and wanted to "class it up" with a custom frame and matte. Frame of Mine was local and convenient. The initial consultation was pleasant and informative, but I wanted to do some research to gain an understanding of price versus the competition. From here, I visited a major chain that was recommended by a friend and others (including Frame of Mine). The prices there were higher, the staff less helpful and the overall experience was well below average expectations. I even considered the cheapest option of buying a stock frame, but ultimately decided that was not appropriate. The next day I returned to Frame of Mine confident that they were the best provider of this service in the area. Price was no option to me at this point, because I had seen the alternatives and was unimpressed. Upon my return, the staff welcomed and remembered me. They were moved by my "story" and graciously offered a modest loyalty discount for returning. Totally above and beyond. My framing was completed far ahead of schedule and the quality of work was top-notch. There was never a sense of the "pushy salesman," in fact, the complete opposite. It was a wonderfully conducted customer service experience that has me spending the time to write this review. I realize that 90% of the reviews are very favorable and I really hate to be the sore thumb; but I can't join the crowd. I took in two charcoal drawings ($20 each) that I intend to place in my bathrooms, so I wanted two pieces of glass 10x14 to go into the frame and protect the drawings from moisture. The manager quoted me a price of $214 each. She said she would give me a "new customer" discount of 10% which is standard, but the (standard) 10x14 glass had to be custom cut. I paid $22 for a cab ride to K-Mart and I got both pieces of glass w/ new frames for $8. So with the cab fare and purchase, I still saved over $400. The manager did advise me that they have severe discounts in January, so since I live in the neighborhood, I will try back in January and see if they have something more reasonable for my remaining framing needs. read more
