Beautiful work, and they honored a Groupon that wasn't technically supposed to be used for this type of frame. Just great service.

Excellent, quality work and fast turnaround by framing standards! Glad that I choose them. read more

I could not be more pleased with the framing that was done 5 18th St. framing. You buy things overseas and they're cheap and you come back here and they always cost five times as much to get them framed. So I'm always a little nervous. Not only was 18th St. framing reasonably priced but look at the amazing job they did. Even better, they completed the job on time and they delivered the finished item to my house! I took in two pieces of art I wanted framed and could not be happier by the job that AK did. I appreciated his opinion on what backing color and texture to use to compliment the art. He was so kind and appreciative of my business and even stayed open a few minutes late so I could pick up the piece. I cannot recommend him more!! read more

We had two prized prints by American artist Josh Agle (aka Shag) framed and they turned out beautifully. By the way, the prints are "Are We Not Men", a collaboration with Devo, and "Dolce, Dolce, Dolce", an homage to Fellini's films. The owner really knows what he's doing and we were so pleased that he took the time to discuss the myriad of frame, mat and glass options in order to create the perfect look. We were so happy with his work that he's currently framing two vintage movie posters for us. read more

This is the best framing store in DC. I had a pretty special print in need of a frame- so I took it to 18th Street Framing (after visiting a few other shops). I found AK very accommodating, fairly priced, quick and even offered to drop it off when he finished. All which went seamlessly. A month or so after- my framed print fell off the wall and i quickly brought it back to AK. We soon discovered there were numerous scratches after the glass shattered. AK offered me a reasonable price to replace the glass and he offered to touch up some of the scratches on the print. He did a marvelous job restoring the print and I couldn't even tell where the scratches are. He also dropped it off and helped me secure it to the wall. All at no additional cost. His work is marvelous! read more

My fiancé and I had a wonderful experience with 18th St. Framing. We had four pieces we needed framed. They were very helpful in helping us stay within our budget by giving us options on how to do so. We went to a few shops before we came here and did t get near the same level of service. Our pieces have been framed and we are so happy with the quality! We will use them for all our future framing needs. read more

My boyfriend and I had an amazing experience here. AK helped my boyfriend with all aspects of designing a custom shadow box frame to house corks from some of our favorite dates, and he put it together beautifully. His work is precise and exceeded our expectations. We realized about a month after we picked up the frame that we had actually gotten one of the printed dates wrong, and AK fixed it for us no problem--he's super friendly and easy to work with. We will treasure this piece for years to come, and we expect to return to AK for all of our future framing needs! read more

In the last year I have had five items framed or repaired by 18th Street Framing. This is the best place to bring your paintings, or and article you need framed, in Washington. I have used other framers in Georgetown and nearby locations, but none are as knowledgeable and priced as reasonably as 18th Street. A special mention of Abbe who is extremely helpful in selecting the right frame for each painting. read more

I have thought about making a coaster collage for years, and AK at 18th Street Framing made it happen! He was tremendous to work with -- offering guidance, suggestions on how to create the collage, and even picking up and dropping off the piece through the various stages of the process. I could not be happier with how it turned out! Thank you so much! Would highly recommend this business to anyone looking for fair prices and excellent service. read more

This is a great little shop. I initially went in with a Groupon, and was admittedly surprised to find that the piece I wanted framed would cost more than the $200 the Groupon was worth, but quickly realized that I just didn't know very much about framing (getting anything framed is expensive). I gave AK, the owner, a Korean drawing on crumpled paper, and I almost didn't recognize the beautiful piece of art I got back. He took the time to steam it, or iron it out, which made it look so, so beautiful. The matting and framing is just gorgeous -- and he spent ages with me going over various options for mat colors, frame styles, and glass so that it would be just right. I was so happy with my purchase that I went back a second time, for a smaller piece of art, and I'm equally as thrilled. Bonus: even without the Groupon, you get $50 credit towards your next purchase every time you have something framed. (Also, for my second piece of art, which would have been $70 after the $50 off, AK said if I was willing to pay cash, he'd accept $40. Really nice guy.) I understand the negative reviews about high pricing -- but as I said, framing in general is very expensive. If you want high quality, professional work, this is a great place to turn to. read more

UPDATE (3/23/18): A few weeks after I posted my review, the owner of 18th Street Framing called me to apologize for the scratches on my New Yorker puzzle and offered to fix it and reframe it free of charge. He even gave me a full refund on the Groupon I used to pay for it, as well as any additional charges. I was skeptical at first at how he would be able to fix the white marks, but he painted over them, and now I can't even notice where they were. A job well done! He also offered to frame my next puzzle for free! read more

I was looking forward to a positive framing experience but did not receive at 18th street framing. I came in to use a Groupon and shared that information, we went through the process and when it was time to pay the price miraculously increased the amount of my Groupon. This is very disappointing. If you are in the market for framing I HIGHLY recommend Frame of Mine. You will receive a fair price, great product and they have ethics. read more

Bought a Groupon Deal for this place ($49 for $200 worth of framing) and it was a total scam. The first time I went in the man was quick to help me put together a mat/frame combo that looked great for my poster-sized piece of art- I was really excited! Then he told me the price-- $450 minimum! I thought that seemed really high. I asked him if he had some cheaper frame/mat options and he brushed the question off. So I left, walked one block away to a nicer frame shop, asked the man there to give me the exact same combination and would you believe it? Price he quoted me was $250. I didn't want to lose the value I paid for my Groupon so I went back a 2nd time and I brought a much smaller picture to frame (8" x 10"). A different man was behind the counter this time and he told me "there was nothing he could do" to help me find any frame options for $200-$250 (a.k.a. within or close to the value of the Groupon). For something the size of a regular piece of paper! I walked out again empty-handed. These guys are scamming Groupon customers by inflating their prices outrageously and then flat-out refusing to honor it at all. I should have known better as it's mostly businesses that are not doing well that even participate in Groupon deals. But I would not recommend this business to anyone-- go to the other frame stores literally a block away where they don't try to rip you off. read more

GROUPON SCAM IN PROGRESS!!! I can't speak to the quality of the framing here, but I can say they are scamming their customers! The groupon was $49 for $200 worth of framing. I had a 22x30" piece and I wanted a basic wooden frame. I told the salesman that I had a groupon and he glanced at the app on my phone. He didn't even look at the groupon redemption code or scan the groupon barcode, which should have been my first clue. I chose a plain, thin wooden frame and a white matt and the salesmen quoted the price as $500 pre-discount and $300 with the groupon. When I asked if there was anything cheaper he told me that it depended on the frame. I said I understood and I wanted to know what was my cheapest frame option. He claimed he didn't understand what I meant and proceeded to pull random frames from the wall and quote prices, all around $500. From my previous framing experience I know a frame like this should be around $250 tops. It is obvious that they just overcharge groupon users by $200 and then give a "discount" of the same amount. I took the same print up the street to The Picture Frame Factory, and was quoted $250 for a beautiful burl oak frame and a double matt. Lesson learned. read more

This is a great framing shop. I came in earlier this year for the first time after purchasing a Groupon and AK worked with me to get the best price for my pictures. I've returned twice now (without a coupon) and each time AK gave be a very reasonable rate and did great work. Even when I had complicated framing requests, AK worked with me to make my pictures look the best. The cost for framing is very material-dependent, so other reviewers who feel ripped off might just have expensive tastes. I'd definitely recommend going in, talking to the owner, and seeing what your options are. He's very friendly, accommodating and you'll be happy with the outcome. read more

Excellent custom work, I had a street sign framed and he did a professional job in a timely manner. He went above and beyond to help adjust a tarantula I already had framed that shifted over time that I could not fix myself. He also was helpful in providing me a replacement piece of glass from another frame I had that had cracked. Over all a very positive experience. read more

Love supporting a local business that does great work in a quick timeframe. Good prices as well. He even honored a two year old $50 coupon I had and that's one of the reasons I am getting my fourth item framed here. Also, the museum glass option which may seem like a gimmick is totally legit. Absolutely no glare from lights/windows obstructing my artwork and a very solid frame/hanging wire to keep the art securely on the wall and hanging hook. Also appreciate the advice for matting and frame materials and colors available. read more

I had a fantastic experience with this store. I came in to get a pretty sizable print framed and they were super friendly and helpful. We went to their H Street location after buying a Groupon. Despite some of the other reviews, we had a good experience with Groupon and the staff. We had several paintings we bought on travels and were looking to see what the best deal for framing would be. The staff took time to thoroughly explain the Groupon offer we purchased and recommended frames for each of our pieces. Buyers note the Groupon offers are for specific sizes so the amount you may pay in addition to the Groupon will be dependent on the size you purchased and if you also purchased the stretching. We learned a lot from the staff on what that meant. Our Groupon covered one piece we wanted to frame and we ended up getting a 2nd piece framed too. We are looking forward to getting them back this weekend. read more

I greatly appreciated the expertise and care with which the proprieter suggested options and framed my four different prints. Watch your $ carefully with a Groupon here, as others have mentioned! I need a large-ish canvas stretched and other shops were telling me it would be around $150. I was so excited to find a Groupon here--$50 for $200 worth of framing, including canvas stretching. But then when I called, their price was $365! So, as the shop confirmed, I'd have to pay $215 total (including what I paid to Groupon) to finish my project. Fortunately I could still cancel my Groupon and go with another framing place, but I was pretty disappointed. read more

We just had 6 items framed here, and the quality is incredible. The owner definitely takes his time to give good suggestions and show you the various mat, frame, and glass options that will best highlight your work.
