Before shot: where I am pointing is so badly damaged that I can take four pieces out by hand.

Gerardo was on time, professional, and very skilled. We had some heinous cracking happening in the granite countertop behind the faucet of our kitchen sink. Seriously, at least four different pieces were crumbling away that we could hold in our hands. He fixed it beautifully and resealed the entire countertop. It looks fabulous. And here I thought we were going to have to replace the entire countertop. Couldn't be happier.

I had Fox Marble refinish my Quartzite countertops. They are only 5 years old and I was shocked to discover the original installers used a water based sealer. The countertops were dull ,rough, and spotty with water marks. Fox Marble is one of the only Bay Area companies that offer refinishing services. They have a patented blue light sealing process that is similar to gel nails and is impervious to etching. I was impressed with the technique. They also offered an oil based sealer for a fraction of the cost. I opted for that. My countertops were refinished using about 12 different sanding pads, many polishing techniques, and absolute craftsmanship. Edwardo, their master craftsman is incredible. He is prompt, polite, honest, and a real artist. They are so lucky to have him. He worked on my countertops for two days and they look better than they did when they were first installed. All together my countertop refinishing cost a little over $1,000. I am thrilled. I definitely recommend this company and if you can afford that fancy sealing process - do it. Worth every penny. Thanks Edwardo!

    Good as new!

Despite doing one's consumer homework, sometimes the experience is nowhere near what others claimed it to be. Not so with Fox marble. We discovered substantial cracks in two marble pedestals over 30 years old. Dan Lopez answered the call and came over within the week. The proposal followed by nightfall. Natalie as the interface was responsive and complete. Arturo arrived on time and diligently worked virtually all day doing the restoration in an outside area he set up as his workshop. The result was beyond my expectation. A very heavy glass tabletop sits on the pedestals and Arturo had two other employees come over to set the top even though they were not the one's who dismantled it. This is an example of a company that has customer service as a priority and makes no excuses.

I've read through all the reviews and I'm puzzled by the negative reviews. It's hard to believe we're talking about the same company, because we're absolutely thrilled with our recent Neolith ultrasoft installation! Bernardo did an AWESOME job with our installation, and was a true pleasure and joy to have in our home. We've already requested him for our kitchen counter Neolith installation that we're planning to do later this year. Also, Bill Gamble and the rest of the FM team made the process very easy and effortless for us from the fast turnaround of our initial fabrication quote, through measurement, then computerized layout options, and finally installation. Everyone on the FM team was incredibly patient, kind, and professional every step of the way. I'm very OCD and have very high standards, yet FM managed to exceed my very high expectations! That doesn't happen very often, lol. Our Neolith installation experience was truly fantastic. It was very obvious to us that the FM team takes great pride in their work and we highly recommend them!

The installer, Tobbie, was incredibly efficient (!), friendly and supportive in helping me decide on some of the small nuances of a new installation. They were back to install the new countertop in a few days which was a *big delight. The only feedback I have for the company is for the scheduler, owner and contractor to all get on the same page about timeline - the scheduler kept saying 1.5-2 weeks, everyone else said a couple days. I was glad they came back within a couple days but knowing a more appropriate timeline would've helped me manage my work (and other responsibilities) in a more grounded way. I highly recommend working with this company!

I found East Bay Cabinets on Yelp, read favourable reviews and saw the photos posted here and on the website. A bonus was that the shop is less than two miles from our home. Hubby and I made an appointment with Vinny at his shop. After our initial meeting, we knew right then we wanted him to be part of our remodel. We put down a nominal deposit to get on his calendar. He had one or two projects ahead of us and it was a few months wait, but worth it. In the meantime, I did several drafts sketching and designing out my kitchen (yay for graph paper and coloured pencils!). So come Spring 2021, Vinny contacted us and we were pretty much ready. There were a few design issues he pointed out that we modified to be more practical. When it came to choosing the material, we opted for raw cherry. I had it in my head to do an oil finish for the cabinet and drawer fronts that would give it a particular look. Vinny is a true craftsman with an eye for detail. His workmanship is impeccable, exact and beautiful. He was very accommodating with the quirks of our appliance choices. We bought an integrated dishwasher and he was concerned the "knock" feature would not work through the wood (it worked perfectly). We also had a pipe chase behind the pantry cabinet so we could run a vent pipe from the furnace to the upstairs level, as well as a toe kick vacuum to sweep the floor (we installed a whole house system). He also had the challenge of installing into a house where ALL the walls are out of plumb, not a single right angle ANYWHERE. Marbles roll around on the floor but stay put on the countertops because the cabinets are dead nuts level. Vinny gives his full attention when he is on your project. I felt guilty bugging him with questions and learned to just text him or send all my questions in an email. It worked out better for us, better for him. He had great ideas that we incorporated while I countered with some crazy ones that we quickly put aside. It has pretty much a year since the install and I absolutely love my kitchen and how it is all (still!) coming together. I would highly recommend Vinny in a heartbeat. We have another project in mind and looking forward to working with him in the future.

We were looking into factory kitchen cabinets but discovered that using standard sizes for our 70…read moreyear old kitchen would require us to have our back door moved a few inches. The cost of moving the door was about as much as the price difference between factory and custom; and going custom really opened up a whole new level of options for materials, finishes and maximizing our space. We then considered one of those smaller custom cabinet factories in Oregon, but we wanted a local cabinetmaker who could see our project, make his own measurements, adjust the plans as things changed (and they did!), offer suggestions, and keep us from making any costly mistakes. It's also good to have a local cabinetmaker who can look at your finished walls before installation, with a fresh set of eyes, and validate that the walls are square and plumb, and all of the electrical, plumbing and ductwork are exactly where they should be. Vinny was one of only two cabinetmakers we'd visited, and I was sold; his shop was very clean and organized, his joinery was the tightest and cleanest that I've ever seen, his attention to detail is obvious with the spacing of every screw and nail, each project was neatly organized and sequestered from every other project, and his work combines decades of experience with the most modern and reliable hardware- like a servo operated trash and recycling drawer. Vinny was thorough and responsive with emails and estimates, his work was completed ahead of time and waiting for our other contractors to catch up. Vinny has probably built hundreds of kitchens over the years and has great instincts on what sort of kitchen would compliment the rest of your architecture and what's trendy vs what will give lasting value; he made great suggestions along the way which my wife sees with the clarity of hindsight as spot on. We also chose to have Vinny install our kitchen; the cabinets arrived wrapped in blankets and numbered, he is the most organized tradesman that I've ever worked with in 30 years- he arrived with everything he needed from the large tools right down to totes with all of the tiny hardware and even the smallest compressor I've ever seen for driving his tiny little finishing nails. Vinny prefers to do all of his most detailed work all by himself, methodically and with an unbroken train of thought, and I think this allows him to achieve a remarkable consistency that would be impossible if he delegated to a shop full of helpers. We've had the new kitchen for about 6 months now, and I'm still impressed with Vinny's work. The cherry cabinets have a clear finish that has a consistent luster, the grain is well matched from drawer to drawer, there's an iridescence/ chatoyance that shines through the grain as the sun makes its way across the kitchen; and beyond the aesthetics, I was impressed with the assembly of the cabinet boxes which were strong, rigid, and lined up perfectly. I've measured all cabinet doors and drawer fronts and all I could find is one door that may be a fraction of a millimeter wider than the other one. I'm also impressed that we have the drawers and pantry very heavily loaded but everything closes smoothly and gently. It's also worth mentioning, by contrast, that we did get a bathroom vanity from a small factory in Oregon- we couldn't go wrong in ordering a 48" vanity. We did save $500, but we had to assemble it ourselves, it required driving self tapping hardware into veneered flakeboard, all of the drawers and doors needed adjustment and tweaking, the drawer closing hardware seems a bit clunky, the wood grain isn't as well matched, and the finish just doesn't have the same luster, so we are of course all the happier that we went with Vinny for the kitchen!

I hired Eduardo about three years ago to remodel two bathrooms at the same time. He and team were…read morefriendly and the finished appearance looked good, but unfortunately one bathroom developed a hidden moisture problem that has now required full remediation and reconstruction (thousands of dollars worth of repair) When I opened the wall, I discovered that the exterior bathroom wall had old insulation, old vapor paper, and no proper moisture management behind the new drywall. This created a condensation trap in winter that eventually led to mold inside the wall cavity and peeling paint on the surface. The other bathroom--built at the same time--did not have this issue, which is what helped us figure out that this was not a house-wide moisture problem, but instead a wall-assembly oversight specific to that remodel. To be clear: I'm not questioning their friendliness or effort, but proper bathroom remodeling requires evaluating insulation, vapor control, and the condition of exterior walls during demo, especially when replacing drywall on an exterior-facing wall. That step didn't happen here, and it ultimately created a significant expense and inconvenience down the road. I've removed my initial positive review because, while the bathrooms looked nice on day one, this kind of behind-the-wall oversight matters. I hope the company takes this as constructive feedback for future projects. Customers should make sure that insulation, vapor strategy, and exterior-wall conditions are verified when remodeling a bathroom - especially one with drywall on an outside-facing wall.

I had a fan in my master bathroom crap out on me, which was weird, since I only bought my place 4 years ago, it was newly remodeled, & I even remodeled some more on top of that. My wife pointed out it wasn't working, but it looked new to me, so I popped the cover to find out...not new at all. New COVER over a fan that was a year younger than the missus. Uh oh. The old "lipstick on a pig" boogie from the prior owners/ seller. Damn. Hate getting hoodwinked. So, I think "well, better check the 'new' fan in the guest bath too." Pop THAT shiny, nice cover & ...same drill but even OLDER. Some mid-80's (I think) giant 13" circular fan they don't even make anymore. Double ugh. Last stop: laundry room. Final fan, pop the cover...whew, it's actually a new-ish fan. 1 outta 3 ain't bad, right? /sigh So I put out the feelers for an electrician (I had 2 dead outlets, 1 indoor, 1 outdoor as well) & after doing the "online quote" thing w/ Yelp, I got in touch w/ Damon @ Berkeley Home Repair. Funny dude, super helpful, quick & responsive. He schedules his electrician, Carlitos, to come out ASAP, for what I think is gonna just be a basic fan install & outlet fix job. Nope. Carlitos goes into the attic & discovers the ducts are all wrong. 3 fans running thru 2 ducts, both bathrooms on the same 4" line, & laundry room on some weird 3" duct. Now, you can get away with 4", but 6" is code & preferred, & every fan has to be on its own dedicated/ independent duct, or you're just blowing moisture from room to room & into the attic. Not good. We crawl the attic together & confirm I need a 3rd roof penetration & new ducts. So much for cheap & easy. Damn. Damon adjusts the bid (as gently as possible, considering my costs just went up almost 10x) & I wind up with 2 brand new Panasonic Whisper Quiet fans (amazing. Almost TOO quiet), a new roof penetration & cap, new independent 6" ducts for each fan, an excellent sheetrock patch & paintjob on my guest bath ceiling (prior, old-timey fan was just way too huge compared to current models) AND Carlitos fixed both dead power outlets (one of which turned out to be an arcing short/ broken wire inside the wall, which we were lucky to catch before a fire). All the workers were amazing to work with & did great on their specific parts of the now much larger order. Everyone worked quickly &, despite the gig snowballing far beyond the expected, Damon priced fairly & had the work done as fast as possible with minimal intrusion & inconvenience (crucial during these pandemic "work from home" times) Tho it was obviously a bummer to have a small job turn into a much bigger & more expensive one, I always felt like I was in good hands with Damon, his communication was clear, direct, quick & honest, & the outcome was excellent. I'll definitely be using Berkeley Home Repair for future work, since homeownership often means nasty surprises like the one I got ain't all that rare, unfortunately. Heh. At least now I know who to call to get sorted fairly & quickly. Thanks fellas!
