What nice people! I stopped by Fox Jewelers in Batavia, IL on June 11, 2024 without an appointment to see if they could cut my wedding ring off because it was so tight that it was almost cutting off circulation. The ring had been on my finger for over 54 years of marriage. I haven't been able to remove it in at least 20 years. I've been putting off having it removed for some time but I finally decided to have it done. The Fox Jewelers employees greeted me in the most friendly way and within five minutes or so the ring was cut off. I knew that rings could be cut off and enlarged but my hands and knuckles had grown so much over the years that I didn't think it would be possible to repair and re-size my ring. I was delighted when they told me it would be no problem. I certainly expected to pay for such good service removing my ring so I laid my credit card on the counter which was tossed back to me with a smile and I was told there was no charge. Now I have to wait while my ring finger, which has a deep groove in it where my ring was, recovers to a natural shape when I will go back to Fox Jewelers to have them repair and re-size the ring. My wife's ring also needs to be re-sized so she'll have Fox Jewelers do that too. In her case, her wedding ring is not cutting off circulation like mine was but she can't remove it because her knuckle has swelled because of arthritis. I couldn't be happier with Fox Jewelers. I just wish all businesses treated customers like Fox Jewelers treated me. read more

I had a couple 1/4 carat diamonds I wasn't sure what to do with so I went to Fox Jewelers to maybe sell. Tom and his wife Valerie couldn't have been nicer or more honest. Tom explained that they were beautiful stones but given the "common" size, he really didn't have a use for them and that I should just keep them. I really wanted to do something with these diamonds and while talking with Val, I noticed her earrings, really beautiful. I asked if they could put the diamonds in earrings like hers but have them in 14k gold. "No problem" she said and showed me some samples. As promised, 4 days later I have a BEAUTIFUL pair of diamond earrings, for my wife in time for Christmas. I discovered Fox Jewelers through Yelp and decided to see them based on a plethora of overwhelmingly favorable five star reviews, which surprisingly turned out to be 100% accurate. I brought in two watches for sizing and a third needing multiple pins added and/or replaced. They sized the two watches while I waited and did not charge me anything for the service. I left the watch that needed the new pins, which another local jeweler had recently replaced, but it failed several times almost immediately, and I almost lost the watch. The watch is heavy and required heavy duty pins, which are now working as good as when I bought the watch many years ago. This family owned and operated business is the quintessential local business and the reason why we should all try to patronize our local independent businesses as often as possible. I don't think Walmart or Target would have been as capable, helpful, and/or cost-effective, and I can't imagine Amazon saying "no charge" on the sizing service which they don't do anyway. Especially now, coming out of the 18 month lockdown, quarantine, or hibernation (whatever one wants to call it), it's especially important to patronize local/non-corporate businesses as much as possible. I know that I'm going to make an extra effort to do so; even if it does cost me a little more some times. It's not only helping the business and the people they employ, and their families, but it is an investment in the community as well. We lost too many independently owned businesses in 2020 & 2021; let's all do our part to ensure we don't lose any more, and also work to invigorate and revitalize our communities with new investment and new businesses, which in turn will bring in more tax revenue to help maintain and improve our communities. We may save a few bucks buying it from Amazon, but it'll ultimately cost more in various tax hikes and/or diminish the quality of life in our communities. read more

I can't speak to the quality of their jewlry, but the staff person I dealt with was arrogant and condescending. And seemed a little shady to boot. I went in to have a very expensive diamond ring sized that I inherited from my mom. I asked if they did the sizing on site and, if not, if they mapped the diamond prior to it being sent out, to ensure the actual diamond was returned. She told me they "sent them out to Chicago, but" ...wait for it..."anyone can change out any diamond at any time, unless you are standing right over the bench tech and watching him. So, yeah, it does happen and could happen." Blondie apparently didn't have all her synapses connecting, because she didn't grasp the question. Yes, I understand that it "does" and "can" happen. That is Why I asked my original mapping question. So, I'll ask it again:Do you map diamonds prior to sending them out?" She said, "Um, yeah, he takes a look at them under the loupe." Ok. Let's try this again. I speak slowly this time for you: "But does he actually map the diamond and provide documentation?" This time she replied, "Well, if YOU have the papers, and show them to him, then, yeah, before he sends them out he will know that you have will be able to identify your own diamond, so then they won't try to switch it out." Hmmm. That speaks volumes. Very shady. She's a little too quick to say diamond-switching happens and that they do nothing to prevent it--UNLESS the CUSTOMER has his or her own paperword. Very telling. I finally said that this was inherited and, because of that, I didn't have the documentation. This is where this rude, clueless, arrogant and completely unsympathetic woman threw her hands in the air and said, in an accusatory tone: "And THEEERRRRRRRRRRE it is!" There WHAT is, exactly? It's a crime to inherit a ring? No, her tone was more along the lines of, "Ohhh....you're not rich enough to afford a diamond like this." Well, clueless little sweetie, I have a $4,000 tanzanite (that, yes, I purchsed myself...with my own money...as I'm single and never married..don't need a hubby to pay for my every need). I also have several other high-end pieces. But because you chose to make an arse of yourself, I will never again set foot into that store, and I will make sure to tell my friends to avoid the store. I work just down the street at a bridal shop in Geneva and mentioned my boyfriend and I have been talking about getting engaged. I called Fox Jewelers to make an appointment to get a ring appraised. When I showed up there I was the only customer I looked inside and there were three or four employees without a mask. A woman saw me from behind the counter and I pointed to my mask asking where her mask was. She pointed at the counter but she did not put the mask on so that I could enter. Once again I pointed to my mask trying to get her to put her mask on so I could come in the store. Once again she pointed at the counter but she still would not put her mask on. Another employee saw me and would not put his mask on. I had no choice but to leave and go to another store. It turned out that it was a good thing because when I got to that store the employees they're all were wearing masks and I felt much more secure. I will never go back to Fox Jewelers again. Believe me, we've been to a lot of jewelry stores in the western suburbs area, and Tom helped us to create a stunning ring! We were looking specifically for an engagement ring style that wasn't like all the others, and also looking for someone who we could really talk to about a custom ring. Tom was knowledgeable, straightforward and very friendly. Unlike other places we had gone, he took the time to listen to our ideas and make thoughtful recommendations. He wasn't snobby or assuming at all, something refreshing in the jewelry world (especially engagement ring world!) The neat thing about Fox Jewelers is that they can help you design a ring virtually and also in wax. That way, you can be sure that the design is on the right track and fits with what you want. (CAD technology is super cool AND cheap for those of you like us who are on a budget) Tom was very communicative at each stage as well, so my fiance was sure of what he wanted before things were set in stone (what a pun! sorry!) Tom worked really hard to meet my fiance's proposal deadline, and even worked with us afterward to ensure that we were completely satisfied, even with little details. Despite little missteps (one of the wax molds broke in the mail), he was always very communicative and always told us how things would be fixed. I have a ring that was given to me for 8-grade graduation (34 years ago). I took the ring to a big-named jeweler and they refused to resize it. They said it needed all new prongs and it would cost the same amount to fix the ring as it would to replace it ($500). She told me the ring isn't worth much and I'd maybe get $20 for the gold and 2 super small diamonds (minus the ruby).
