Several years ago I brought in a Raymond Weil W1 watch in to have the battery replaced. Since it had a seal they would not be able to do it in the store and it was sent out. I ended up getting a call a few days later to be told that it wasn't a battery issue, that it needed a new movement. I was somewhat suspicious but did not question it. Recently I brought in another watch, this time a Victorinox, to have a new battery put in. I observed the sales person struggle to get the case closed with the press, only for them to discover it was the wrong battery being installed. The correct battery was chosen, and attempted to be installed. It took multiple people working on it with the press to get the case closed. Once it was, the watch didn't work. It was sent off to be inspected. I've now been told this watch needs a new movement. I'll be going somewhere else to get batteries installed in my watches from now on. read more

I needed my engagement and wedding rings resized (UGH) and they needed to be appraised since I haven't done this since I received them (yikes, no bueno!!) They were very professional here, they checked my GIA numbers prior to taking in my ring and giving it back. My rings fit perfectly after they were resized and they were sparking!! I wish I could get them cleaned all the time. The appraisal came back and I was happy with it, shocked actually but glad I have it for insurance purposes. I don't often write reviews, but felt the need after such a great experience at Stones with the help of Brandon. My wife and I visited Victoria precovid and she wanted a couple of pieces of jewelry but wasn't sure at the time. Fast forward to the present, I wanted to purchase them as a gift, but only somewhat remembered the pieces as they weren't on the website (given that it was a few years ago). I called the store and Brandon answered. He was extremely kind and patient and was able to locate the pieces very quickly. Given that I'm in the US, Brandon texted me photos of the jewelry to make sure we got the order right. It was by far one of the best customer experiences I've ever had. Just went in to have a ring resized. Went in they told me it would be $60 as the ring "had a two small cracks in the gold". Then I agree to the resizing at that price with a fix of both of the "cracks in the ring". They told me it would be repaired in a week. Anytime I have a had a ring resized they usually do it while you wait or within minutes. They called the same day four hours later and tell me they needed to remeasure as the size they had down was incorrect. Mind you this is while the owner is watching and agreed to the price and watched the transaction and sizing. My wife and I returned and then they said that the ring was actually measured as size X. They then said the size was measured incorrectly and it would be more $ to upsize the ring. My wife kindly asked for the price and a discount due to the inconvenience. The young girl who was helping us at the time said rather abruptly that the owner is aware and she will speak with him. He said no reduction in the price and actually the new price would be $125. I immediately took the ring and I will go to jewelers row. I would have to say that it was 1. rather inconvenient to come back 2. it would have been a long wait for a simple resizing by a jeweler and 3. I have a tremendous amount of experience with jewelers and actually watches and jewelry. I knew I was being way overcharged and walked out on the spot with my ring. M read more

Such a nice place and nice people! They open at 9 which is earlier than most places and I like. It seems like 10 is so late to open when you get up at 6! This is located on Front Street in downtown Wheaton, so you have to park in the street. Opening at 9 avoids the whole parking problem unless Starbucks is packed. I haven't bought any major jewels here, just had a watch repaired, but the service people were very attentive. I had a toddler with me and they were very cool about him wandering about. Some places treat him like he has a disease or he's a shoplifter and they follow him around and make disapproving noises. I've gone in here on a sunny day just to window shop and they were not swarming around me like other places I've been. It's just a nice experience. The only way it could be nicer would be if I had some cash to buy some bling! read more

I have had several things repaired in the past that were O.K.- but my last was a disaster! I am still upset everytime I look at the ring. The items I have repaired were non-gem stones in silver - which they always warn you may change due to the heat. This last one I specified in writing that they take out of the setting to avoid that. They did not - stone and setting were damaged and manager seemed shocked that I did not think the "repair" was worth paying for. don't take natural stone and silver to them! read more

My family has been coming to Stones for at least 20 years.. They have many beautiful and unique pieces, and they also create pieces too.. I had the diamond from my mom's original engagement ring and I wanted to do something with it- but not make it look like an engagement ring.. With the help of Dave (the owner), we created a ring with the diamond and two sapphires that I get soo many complements on. I've never seen a piece like it! Also, I've received two other diamond necklaces and diamond studs from Stones- both quality, and the perfect sparkle! I took two watches in to get batteries replaced. They fixed them within a few days, no problem. They even replaced it on the knockoff watch I received from a family member who bought it in China. We had a good laugh about it, but they never made you feel bad about buying a cheap watch. They also had links taken out to fit my wrist. Each piece of work was $5, which is a bargain in this day. My elderly mother-in-law started giving get jewelry away to family members about a year ago. She gave me a beautiful diamond ring. Unfortunately, it did not fit me and I just put it in my jewelry box. My mother-in-law passed away Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. We knew it was a long shot but we brought it to Stones on Black Friday. We explained the situation and told them I would love to be able to wear it to the wake and funeral on Monday and Tuesday. Well, Jackie was just great and brought it to Tom, and asked him if it could be done. Tom said he was going to do his best. I needed it substantially larger and sometimes that changes the shape of the ring. He wanted me to be happy with it and be able to wear it. An hour and a half later we got the call that it was ready. Just Had my rings appraised and they went above and beyond by inspecting and researching my main diamonds serial number (was a gift stone), the appraisal came back 50% more than the previous jewelry store who charged me almost double to appraise (plus I got a cleaning and it was still less). I'm so lucky nothing happened to my ring, I just cannot believe how dishonest the other jeweler is (glen Ellyn jeweler). Update to review: STILL only 1 star and I would give 0 if I could. After OVER TWO WEEKS, we are closing in on THREE weeks now...I finally got my rings back. And guess what? These people screwed it up!! It is now even smaller than it was! Seriously??? How do you resize a ring WRONG? I have small fingers, but this ring set still needed to be sized a half size UP...and these people resized it a half size DOWN! How the hell do you screw that up????! Now I have to take it back....again....and have them keep it for who knows how long since they are not forthcoming with how long it is going to take to resize (and fyi...it doesn't take nearly THREE WEEKS to resize a wedding set) and hope they are capable enough to size it correctly this time! It seems their "goldsmith" is completely incompetent. I will also NOT be paying for this to be sized...again!! Since you all messed it up to begin with! I went here because the reviews were so good...and now it seems that they pay shills to go online and leave positive reviews because this has NOT been my experience! Actually do the work and COMMUNICATE with your customers!! They have had my wedding and engagement rings now for two weeks to resize and I can't get anyone to tell me when it will be ready. I had my doubts when I first went in and was ignored for 15 minutes until one of their employees lowered herself to get up from behind her desk and acted like she would rather be ANYWHERE else. The rings were not bought there and that was the first thing I asked, was if they resized jewelry that wasn't bought there. I was given a strange glare and told "Why don't you go back where you got it" well since it was bought online by my husband we can't get it resized "there". I really should have left right then and there and gone somewhere else but I left my rings there anyway because the reviews of this place were so good. They did call me with the estimate to resize...after almost a week(! seriously???), which was quite high, and then hung up on me when I asked when it would be ready after I authorized the resizing. I have left 3 messages now having just left the third one, since they won't answer the phone, and not one person has called me back. Why? I don't know, but they have my jewelry and for some reason don't want to give it back. Seems this store is only about what they can gouge out of people rather than providing good customer service. And the funny thing is, they can't get their gouged prices if they won't give the customer back their property! Why would they hold a person's wedding ring set and not give them any information about when it will be done even return a phone call? read more

I got a ring re-sized here. It took them a long time to re-size it, and then the cost was much higher than they stated. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because maybe my ring was more difficult than they originally thought. But then another family member took something there to get fixed, and it took a very long time and then the cost was much higher than they originally stated again. I don't like that they were not straightforward with either of us. It must be how they do business, so I won't be going there again. Both of our experiences were similar. The staff there figured out that it indeed worked as is and kept it for a week to make sure it stayed on time. It did and there was no charge. I at first bought a set of new clasps here for some pearl earrings. Within 4 weeks, the clasps were loose and the earring has fallen out twice. Fortunately, we found them around the house instead of out and about, or else we would have just lost them. So, I took the clasp that was loose back to Stones Jewelry to get them fixed. Everything seemed fine until I went to retrieve them. The lady that handed back the earring told me that they fix them free of charge this time, but next time I will have to pay to get them tightened again. What? They were loose within a month after I bought it from you! And I almost lost the earrings because of that! Why would I need to pay again if it wasn't loose from age, but fault of manufacturing? I tried explaining that the clasps came this way, but the lady just said that they become loose over time so we will have to pay. I've had bought many earrings over the years and i have NEVER had clasps become loose so fast. Maybe I'm the odd one out to feel that I shouldn't have to pay to get them fixed if it's from a faulty product and not wear and tear. I mean, I'm not expecting them to do this free of charge for the rest of my life! But, I definitely think that they should still fix it if it becomes loose within a couple of months. read more
